I've praised these guys for service FAR better than some warranty service by some (many?) chain dealerships in Thunder Bay. I'd recommend these guys to anyone asking "who should I bring my car to?".

Once the work was…read morecompleted I witnessed the technician racing up the road and back which apparently is what they do once the tires are changed from winter to summer. After receiving the car back the transmission was hesitating / slipping, not the way it ran prior to dropping it off. My wife left a similar review and one of the managers asked us to bring it in to have a look, after looking over the car I was told that there were a few things wrong which could not have been the result of their technician's disregard for my wife's car while driving it and they did not work on this particular type of car ? We reviewed the car's owner manual which clearly states that if the engine is cold, do not place full load on the engine otherwise there could be damage to the drivetrain. We have put $1,000 of repairs into the car without success and have now purchased a new "used transmission" for $500 plus the $ cost of having it replace the original transmission. Needless to say we are very frustrated and upset to continue to deal pour money into a car that should not have had any issues for a simple tire change.

A mixed review. I had a general meh experience at Fountain Tire Thunder Bay. I scheduled an 8AM…read moreappointment two weeks in advanced to have new tires installed, an alignment completed, and for a quote to fix a noise coming from behind the engine block. I figured this would be a relatively easy-going task and was told this would take 3 hours at most. I left for about 3-hours and came back to pick-up my car and finish errands for the remainder of the day. Car was not ready. Four hours later after dropping my car off the tires were put on. Fine -- I am excited to try them out. However, after showing the mechanic where the noise was coming from behind the engine block when I first arrived, an assessment or quote didn't happen regarding that item even after the 4-hour wait. The staff said they would bring it back into the shop and have a look, apologised, and figured this item didn't happen due to miscommunication between the staff and I. Fine - it happens. This would have been around 12:30pm. I was told it would be done around 1:30-2pm. No problem. I am a pretty relaxed guy. I went home to grab something to eat, but didn't receive an update at 1:30-2pm. Maybe it is taking a little longer. However, 3pm rolls around and I still haven't heard anything and therefore I phone the shop and ask for an update. I was told it is almost finished and that it should be ready to go in 10-min. Another 45-mins goes by and I still haven't heard anything. I called again and this time I finally get the go-ahead to pick my car up while also finally receiving a full description of what was completed on the car (this is about 4:00pm). Further, when paying for my bill I noticed I was charged for one item that I requested not to have on my car (nitrogen filled tires). I had to return and have the bill corrected. Nearly 8 hours later, after at least three requests for updates, my car was considered finished. That being said, Fountain Tire did wave certain labor costs in acknowledgement of the long waits and were courteous throughout the process. Their communication during my experience was not adequate and which I believed led to the significant delays. I give koodos to the shuttle driver because he was punctual, told me exactly where to be, and even explain why he would be late picking me up if that did occur (which it did not). I was reading other reviews and noted that at least one other individual complained that when they booked an appointment they too had to wait 8-hours. Anyways, mixed review. I will be going back as they did remain professional under the situation. I imagine I may have been that one customer were things just didn't go right and hope that it doesn't happen again to me. In the end, the work completed on my car seems fantastic. I suggest making sure your game plan with the staff is crystal clear before committing to work done at Fountain Tire Thunder Bay. At the very least, make sure your day is free.
