The margs were good and the staff were very friendly. Not sure if it was the fact they were close to closing or there was a large party but the food was just okay. I had the tacos and they were just okay. It was a fun bar but I think they were a bit understaffed. If I'm in the area I might give it another try.

So glad to have found this spot. We have been looking for a unique spot for tacos and Mexican Fare. This place did not disappoint. The flavors and style is based from Central Mexico. I had the Gobernador (shrimp) and the de la plaza tacos (steak). The shrimp and steak were flavorful and tender. Service was excellent, our server took the time to really talk about the history of the restaurant and how the inspiration for the menu. It is decently priced with a variety of menu items (Enchiladas, Tacos, bowls/salads). Will definitely have to try the ceviche.

My wife and I tried this restaurant and I would eat there again. The restaurant is nicely decorated, the music is playing great music but not too loud where you can't have a conversation. We both had the carne asada tacos and there were great. The guacamole was delicious. The waiter was very friendly and took care very good care of us. A little on the pricey side but what business isn't!

    Great tequila selection!

We've visited Okay Maguey several times now since we live just down the street, and it's become one of our regular spots. One thing that always stands out is the owner usually working behind the bar and greeting guests as they walk in. He does a great job making the place feel welcoming and recognizing returning customers, which adds a lot to the experience. The food is excellent and a little different from the typical Sonoran-style Mexican restaurants in the area. The menu leans more central Mexico/Mexico City style, which keeps things interesting and gives them a unique identity. There's a great variety of tacos, and Taco Tuesday is definitely worth checking out for the deals alone. Our usual go-to appetizers are the flautas or guac, and for entrées we love the enchiladas mole or enchiladas suizas. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with the tacos either. It just depends what you're in the mood for that day. Always a solid experience and somewhere we'll continue coming back

Stopped by for lunch while I was in the area on a weekend and was really impressed. The service was fun and friendly throughout the time were were there. We started with the queso and it was really tasty. Of course we also asked for the chorizo with the queso. I also loved that they made sure to ask to let them know if we needed any extra tortillas. There was so much queso. I was a little worried about the reviews regarding the portion sizes but after eating the queso I just had enough space for pescadillas that I ordered. I enjoyed the pescadillas, and really liked the salsa that came with it. The pescadillas were nice and crispy and pretty tasty, but my favorite was still the queso. I can't wait to come back and try other options on the menu.

Wow!! What a disappointing food experience. Let me star with the good. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The michelada was very good and overall the dining and kitchen area looked very clean. The steak was good but not worth the price . The guacamole was reasonably priced for what the amount you get but no flavor. The beans tasted old and metallic The rice tasted like they wanted to make it flavorful but failed. The carnitas were not good at all. They had a very weird taste to them. The enchiladas suizas were missing something, there was really no flavor to the sauce and the chicken had a chipotle flavor that didn't complement the tomatillo taste. We didn't like that the chef was grabbing everything with his bare hands and wasn't wearing gloves. Sadly this place wasn't for us . The decoration are nice and the restaurant itself is very cute but the food for us just didn't cut it.

We found this place on our way to Costco one day and it did not disappoint. The vibe inside is fun updated Mexican cantina and the service was exceptional. The queso fundido with chorizo was cheesy and delicious. And the maguey bowl with carne asada was really good. This place is for sure a hit.

Nice patio to dine around noon in early march with beautiful weather. Service was excellent and friendly staff. Food was good to the tasting. The corn dish should be fresh, not from the cans -- we didn't like it. I wish it offers a few more options for vegetarians. Overall, it was good food and value -- our party enjoyed it & will come back !

I liked this restaurant very much. The food was delightful. It was not too much but enough and yummy. The guy bringing our food was super nice and wonderful. The restaurant was not too big. The kitchen was open and you could see what was going on. My friend and I liked this restaurant. Since it was my friend's birthday, we were not charged for the yummy flan.

Okay Maguey! I see you! This has quickly become a favorite happy hour spot for my husband and I! We'd been waiting a long time for this place to open and well worth the wait! The service is great, all the food and drinks have such unique flavors! It's a must try. They have several different types of tequila at the bar, and I am obsessed with their guava margarita! My husbands family was born and raised in Mexico, and some of the dishes I've had hear taste like I'm visiting his grandmas house! So delicious. They also had the chile verde pork, never even dreamt of that before and it was perfection. So savory and full of flavor. I love trying the different dishes they have and hanging at the bar for a nice HH treat.

I had a great meal and fantastic experience at Okay Maguey on a Monday evening for dinner with my family. Miguel was our server and he is absolutely amazing. So friendly, helpful, engaging, attentive and comfortable- overall just an awesome guy. Our meal was incredible too! They have a very creative menu! Standard offerings like tacos, enchiladas burritos and margaritas but super creative and unique spins on the items. We tried the enchiladas suizas, the birria tacos, both fantastic , also tried a few singular tacos - and there is a pork taco with bacon and cheese that was recommended by Miguel - was hesitant at first but it was INCREDIBLE and my favorite one. Overall 10/10 experience. We will absolutely be back!

When I got married we had Tscos Huicho come at the end of our reception and served up street tacos to all of our inebriated friends and family. It was a hit! Literally nobody remembers the formal dinner meal we ate, but everyone remembers DEM TACOS! I'm not sure if they still do catering, but if they do, it is a fun crowd pleaser and affordable. The location is weird, like in a neighborhood. Just keep driving--you'll see it, but the first time I went there I thought I was lost and finally spotted it! They've remodeled and expanded the eating area which is great because before it was so busy and you felt crammed, but don't go expecting some high end taco shop. I felt like the fanciest person there when I went since I went on my lunch break in business casual. Honestly I don't care as long as the tacos keep coming out bomb.

I believe the only option for parking is to find street parking. I don't think they have a parking lot, unless I missed it. I tried their Costra taco, which is a beef taco with caramelized cheese, and it was amazing! I also tried the chicken taco, which was good. For a drink, I had their Strawberry-Lemonade Agua Fresca, and it was really good as well. Desserts don't count while you're on a business trip, right? So, I ended up ordering the Tres Leches de Coco, and it was absolutely amazing. It wasn't overly sweet at all and felt surprisingly light. The only thing I didn't like about this place was the restroom situation. You have to grab a key from the restaurant and walk outside to a restroom a few restaurants over. The restroom itself also had a few broken items, some light graffiti here and there, etc., which took away from the overall experience a little. Overall, I'd highly recommend the Costra taco and Tres Leches de Coco!

After taking a very short-lived walk through Roosevelt Row (it was HOT outside), I needed food and refreshment. I stopped into Taco Chelo and grabbed a seat at the bar. Lucky me, it was also happy hour. I ordered a frozen peach margarita and a variety of tacos. The star of the show for me was their fish tacos. Amazing! Even better, you could see the tortillas being freshly made. I don't know about you, but to me, the fresher the tortilla, the better the food tastes. My bartender was attentive and although the margaritas were frozen, they still snuck up on me. Taco Chelo is a very casual spot. A lot of people were enjoying watching sports at the bar. When in Phoenix again, I'd definitely return.

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.
