My family recently dinned here for lunch and we had a great experience and fast service. To start it off we got some chips and salsa, which was great. My friend ended up ordering the seafood enchiladas, which came out steamy. They had a huge glob of avocado on top and my friend loved it. My other friend got a bean and cheese burrito and had it deep fried. It tasted amazing and the tortilla was super yummy and crunchy. I got the bean burro enchilada style burrito. It was super sweet and creamy and the sauce was great. I absolutely loved their beans and rice. I could've had that as a meal in itself and I will definitely be back for more. Been coming here for 29 years, originally at Cave Creek and Cactus. For the first time, not happy. Started off with being sat at the bar area, the seat cushions were cracked and torn, so we asked to move. Then it took forever to be acknowledged by our server. As always the food was awesome. We were never checked on to make sure everything was ok. I had to go to the bar to ask for another beer. The people at the next table were having the same problem. Well on Cinco De Mayo you would expect any Mexican restaurant to be chaos! Not Manuels - this Sheaborhood favorite had it down to a science. After a small wait - 10 mins we were seated and got amazing service and food. They had it down - everyone was hustling and focused on the customers. Food came quick, drinks were refreshed regularly and even was given a free t-shirt. I love this place and was so happy they took care of the customers. Had a DJ - well that could have been way better lol, but didn't even notice the guy until leaving. Feel like it was a nice touch but a missed opportunity as he was just sitting behind his setup playing music that wasn't in keeping with the theme. read more

First time at this location near 32nd Street and Shea Blvd. By far, this is the newest location for this local family chain. Had the El Pastor Chimichanga with rice and beans. Their lunch specials are honored on weekends. Food is consistent, tasty and good. Service was excellent. Restaurant is very modern, open and very large. The first Manual's Restaurant opened in 1964 at 32nd Street and Indian School Road. Have been to most of their locations since that time. Put this one on your list! read more

This is the first time we've been to Manuel's, the service was quick and friendly and there was a lot of seating at this location. We went at dinner, it wasn't too loud, we enjoyed our conversation. The restaurant is spacious perfect since they don't take reservations. We got there early since there were 12 of us for a birthday party. Our waitress was good but service was slow from the bar. We ordered appetizers, the taquitos were really good, the cheese crisp was ok. Definitely not the same restaurant that I thought moved from the one on Cave Creek. Lack of flavor compared to when it was on Cave creek. Came by for a last minute to go order in the late afternoon. Wasn't too complicated order. Had new receptionist that took my order and was being trained. I ordered chips and salsa to go with and was not in bag. Previous restaurant I didn't have to ask. It was complementary. This was way after lunch crowd but before dinner crowd. Not many in restaurant. I didn't mind waiting . But it was like not all the cooks had come in and the waiters were doing the cooking the way it tasted. read more

We came here for a graduation celebration with a party of eight. We paid for dinner on one check. The good: The restaurant is very pretty inside. The hostess took our call ahead request for our party of eight and had a table ready for us early. food was pretty good, especially the carnitas. The chips and salsa were good. The bad far outweighed the good especially the deception with the bill: the service was horrible. Yes there were a few patrons at the restaurant, however, it was not full. There were plenty of empty tables and quite a few employees, some just standing around. Our waiter was barely around did not check on us at all. He didn't know his menu at all. He had to leave us to ask the answers (like: What is the age for the senior special). We never had any refills on water despite 3 of our party of eight having ordered just water. No refills on chips or salsa (He never came around). 5 ordered drinks right away and those came 30 minutes later. The food took almost an hour to come out. Items were missing from our order like the tortillas and despite asking for ketchup, it never came. We ordered fried ice cream and instead of telling us that there was an up charge for sauce, (which was not disclosed on the menu by the way, the menu advertised fried ice cream as a special and they listed the cost on the menu) the waiter instead said: which sauce would you like? Making it seem like it came with sauce and as many sauces as you'd like. Only to find out when the bill came that he charged us 4 times the cost of the advertised price for each ice cream ! He said there was a charge per sauce! That's just wrong. That should be disclosed or they should honor their advertised price. Lastly, given that it's basically one open room, it was very loud in there which made talking with our party of eight pretty difficult. read more

In case you didn't already know, Manuel's serves classic Phoenix style Mexican food. Manuel's has been around since the 1960's and the food is pretty much the same. That means chips/salsa/hot sauce when you sit down, food that generally consists of a tortilla of some kind stuffed with only meat and usually smothered in red sauce and often deep fried plopped on a plate with refried pinto beans and mexican rice - don't forget the smattering of lettuce and cheese on top. (Those of you who grew up here are feeling all warm and cozy right now - this is our comfort food. Yum) Over the years Manuel's gained an informal reputation for one of the better salsas and good chicken tacos. Although, last time I went I tried a special they were having for carnitas and oh boy, that might be my new favorite if they do it again. When in doubt, their combination dinners are your best bet. They also have always had quick, friendly service and reasonable prices. This new location has all the above, but also it's decorated a little more modern with a little industrial twist and a wall of windows with a beautiful view of Squaw Peak. Still casual, though, so come dressed as you'd like. I love coming here because it's so welcoming and comfortable, and in this part of town you kind of get tired after a while of the airs our restaurants put on. I've never had to wait for a table, the food and drinks have always been good, and I've never, ever run into any staff who were less than present and pleasant. read more

Manuel's just recently took over this spot in the Sheaborhood. It's a terrific location. There is plenty of parking and the building itself has great features like retractable walls to open it up for more outdoor feeling dining space. This is perfect on nice days. We went in the other night when I didn't feel like cooking. The host greeted us and we opted to sit at the bar. The bartender also greeted us warmly and I liked that he had experience with the menu. They brought us chips and salsa to start. It's a nice gesture but they weren't anything special. Very ordinary chips and not warmed. I ordered the Picado which was highly recommended and my husband got an item from the combo menu. The picado was good and there was plenty of food. They also had some spicier sauce behind the counter when I asked for it. Overall our meals were good and the service was fine. We'll go back when we need something convenient. read more

Ambiance is classy modern , menu is old school classic Mex. We had salads first timers . Mine the taco salad , shredded chicken (the most moist tasty you will ever eat) with usual costars and add some of their delicious salsa , and BAM BAM BOOM , pure goodness . The food was good. We loved the location and decor (left over from the Tap Room). Our server acted as though we were bothering her. She wouldn't stop long enough to hear what we were asking. Our friends ordered a meal, but our server didn't pause long enough to hear their order. So they ended up with an à la cart burrito for only .89 cents less than the meal. I had the worst meal. I ordered tostada plus cheese crisp and quart of salsa for pick up . When I got home the cheese crisp was disgusting. It had blobs of cheese. I called to speak to manager to get my money back (just for cheese crisp ) because I threw it away and did not eat . I was on hold forever and some man got on phone and said manager wasn't there but took my name and number down and no one bothered to call me back. Manuels is pure Phoenix style mexican food and is by far the best local chain. I think its among the best Phoenix style mexican food left in town. The new store on Shea is awesome........a perfect fit. Came in with my boy again for a special treat for doing well in school. It was his choice and he loves it there, so do I. We ordered our queso dip and what we normally get was underwhelming. A soufflé cup of cheese dip. Normally a nice skillet of cheese, but this was underwhelming. The other dishes we selected were good. The server was very eager to get us to order. He was attentive, but every time he came to the table he was very anxious to get us to order. The support staff was amazing as always and the restaurant was clean and beautiful as usual. Anybody who compares this Manuel's to the old location on Cave Creek has got to be nuts! This location is the BEST! We've been there multiple times; the food and service has always been exceptional! Friendly staff, great atmosphere (especially when the weather is nice and the big windows are open), and the food is to die for! We will definitely return again and again. read more

New Clean Fun Busy Loud ( but not at our booth) Food was good..... BUT! Small critique There was only one entree I could order as a vegetarian. Spinach Enchiladas, and they were really good.! NO chips or tortillas as they have lard. I called ahead to research my options. They were very nice on the phone and took time to help me. They have a food allergy sheet to look at. So, I didn't have to distract our server with questions. I know authentic Mexican restaurants cook with mostly lard. Which really limits me as far as dining in them.
