We had lunch at Okini Asian Cuisine on a Monday. We were there when they opened. We were the only customers until someone came in for a pick-up order just as we were leaving. The ambiance is casual chic. I loved the lighting, both those hanging from the ceiling and the changing colors on the back wall. Our server was very attentive and sweet. We managed to order a lot of food and most of it was excellent. We were treated to a trio of Spanish peanuts, slightly spicy cucumber and pickled onions that were quite tasty. Taking a taste of each together was a great bite. It was a fun start to the meal. We stared with two appetizers: Stuffed Jalapeños and Chili Dumplings. The stuffed jalapeños were fantastic! I expected them to be spicy hot, but they were not. The stuffing was delicious and each bite was delectable. We highly recommend them. The chili dumplings were also very good, though we've had better. These were spicy, but not overly so. They were good and I'd order them again. Mark ordered one of the lunch specials that offered three rolls. They were good. He liked some better than others. I ordered Sashimi Deluxe, which came with a salad and miso soup. The soup was nice. I liked the dressing on the salad and used it more as a palate cleanser between bites of sashimi rather than relying on the ginger. The sashimi was also hit and miss. The pieces were large, with each easily being twice the size you might find at other establishments. None of them, however, melted in my mouth nor did they elicit yummy sounds. We had dessert. I had Tiramisu cake and Mark had Mango Mousse. His mousse was so good! The tiramisu cake was good, but not outstanding. Both desserts came with strawberries, that were fresh and sweet, and a little scoop of ice cream. I mentioned it was my birthday (because it was) and they gave us my tiramisu case at no charge. That was so sweet! When our server came with the check, she also gave us a token each for the claw machine. What fun! We didn't win a prize, but we won some fun on our way out. We loved everything about this place. From their napkins to their dishes to their cups, nothing is done cheaply. It's all really nice. Their bento boxes, all their food was so great. We had been so excited to try this place again after the great foood we had, but immediately the second visit was not living up to the first time. The service was mediocre and the server was hard to find. She was mainly sitting in a booth on her phone instead of serving us. The food (two sushi rolls and calamari) tasted great.... But then we both ended up getting sick later that night. We cannot say it was for sure from this food, but it was odd that we both got sick about 2 hours after eating here. The dining room was clean and the projected large scale aquarium was awesome. We went simple with Chicken Katsu Curry and Pho. The Curry came with soup, salad, and white rice. Fragrant and flavorful, the Curry was a hit. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Tender and juicy. The Pho started out kind of flavorless. But after some doctoring with the provided additives, the flavor woke up. The pho had shrimp, squid, sliced beef, and Meatballs. The beef was loaded with flavor. The shrimp and squid were all texture, no real taste. As for the meatballs, while they tasted fine, they seemed like the kind you buy at the grocery store in the frozen meal aisle. Overall, the food was good. We'll go back again, I will just avoid the pho. Kudos for the Claw machine tokens, the scratch off discount card, and the great carryout bag! One star removed for the weird meatball and the parking lot from hell. Park on the street if you can. It'll save you a great deal of frustration. read more

I live near Okini and was really wanting to like it, but was left unimpressed. We tried it Friday evening for dinner. The ambiance looked like it could be cool with dark walls and LED lights, but they left the over head light turned up like a diner. The staff was meh. They did not explain the menu very well, the iPads that they take the orders on slows down service, few gluten free options, and there were kids running in and out of the kitchen. We had ramen, stir fry, a rainbow roll, and yakitori. The sushi was meh, not well rolled and fell apart in the soy sauce dish. The stir fry was bland. Raman was good. And yakitori (beef and asparagus) was really good. The place was very clean. And the crane game at was a good add. Will try again and update. Hopefully it improves. Looking fwd to trying the patio. The ramen had a nice creaminess to the broth, also I did spoon in a bit of soy sauce to my taste preference. The sushi rolls were fresh and has a very nice quality to them. I wouldn't say the tuna is the best out there, but it was very good quality for the region.
