Been to a few different ramen places in the area over the years. I was told this one wasn't the best. But I finally had to try it out. Went to lunch on a weekday when I didn't have any work meetings and decided to try it out. Service was extremely friendly and she was always making sure that I was taking care of. I had these spicy tonkatsu and it was delicious! Really good. Definitely didn't get any bad feelings at all from this place. So giving it five Stars! I feel like it earned it. I've ordered take out before but this is my first time coming in person to this location. Came in a Friday night after a work happy hour across the street at Madtree. It was not too busy and we got seated right away. There is also parking in front and the side so easy to park in the strip mall plaza. I ordered the curry chicken katsu Don with a spicy Japanese yellow curry sauce and my friend got the Shoyu ramen. We also got the Takoyaki appetizer. This was my first time trying Takoyaki. It was cool to have the shaved bacon bits on top that curled up from the heat. They are octopus filled dough balls and were very flavorful and delicious. I really enjoyed my curry chicken katsu Don meal but wish there was more Japanese curry as it was too little for the amount of breaded chicken and then is so plain. I really loved the curry as it was spicy and just the right amount of spice to enjoy. It is a curry that tastes like an Indian/Japanese fusion curry and is thick and hearty. There should be some other garnishes and sauces to go with this dish but it was still good. The waitress was very efficient and friendly. The food came out quickly as well (as we were starving after a few drinks across the street). Casual eating space , and great for work lunch . I went to the Oakley location right before their lunch closing . Everything was fresh and hot . Service was efficient and was a great day to sit outside . I have to try the ramen next time but the Chicken curry udon was great providing just enough spice. Not a huge place but we went for lunch on a weekday and got a table right away. We got the okonomiyaki and soft shell crab for appetizers. I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen for my main course. The soft shell crab was quite saturated in oil and not super flavorful. The okonomiyaki was mostly soggy as well. The spicy ramen had a decent spice but was a bit too salty. Although I've been a regular pho eater for damn near three decades and have consumed literally hundreds of bowls of the stuff, I'm still a ramen neophyte. I'm not sure that I've had even two dozen bowls of the latter. But I'd like to make up for lost time: There's been a tidal wave of ramen in the United States in recent years, and its surge has has definitely reached Cincinnati, so we've been diving in. Genki is a local ramen chain that sort of sneaked up on us. We'd been partial to Osaka out in Anderson Township in 2021 and early 2022, but it began to backslide a bit as staffing shortages hit the restaurant industry, and it didn't take much to get us to check out Genki's Oakley Station location as another option. So far, Genki's product has been consistent and satisfying. Everything I've tried has been pretty great, and I can recommend these three without hesitation, especially if you like spicy heat: spicy tonkotsu (a standby with pork broth and ground pork), tantan (inspired by Sichuan dandan noodles), and Spicy Miso Paitan (big portion of tender grilled chicken). Is it actually great ramen? Hell if I know, as I simply lack the experience with ramen to judge with full confidence. But by Cincinnati standards, it's certainly got big flavors and is a solid value, and good enough for me to have an occasional craving for. The decor here is nondescript and the lighting quite bright, but it's comfortable and spacious enough. Servers have been very pleasant and helpful so far. A minus is the music, which can be pretty terrible--a lot of overwrought and histrionic-sounding pop--but the volume is not obtrusive. Genki does a nice job packing up carry-out orders, when we've gone that route, and the website is really easy to use and our orders are always ready on time. I don't know if Genki is still pretending to be an izakaya, but it isn't one: It probably has fewer apps or snacks than the standard Japanese restaurant, much less an izakaya that might have a few dozen items to sample. (But for what it's worth, the seaweed salad comes in a large portion at a reasonable price.) read more

I like spicy food and the other critique I would have is that it wasn't as spicy as I would have liked, however I know peoples spice preferences are different. I went out to grab to go since I wasn't feeling up to sitting inside but there are plenty of seats inside to sit to have a nice date night. We got an appetizer of green gyoza which were the best I've had in a long time. The ramen was incredibly filling with the amount of soup they fill in each bowl. Since we got to go, we ordered at the register and it did not take very long to grab our food for home. It was our first time here and heard good things. There's plenty of parking outside and a decent amount inside. It was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon. It's lively, bright, and simply decorated inside. I got the Genki Shoyu and it was delicious! The broth is flavored deliciously, salty and slightly sweet. The toppings are plenty and the noodles were filling. I really enjoyed this bowl. Their jammy egg was made perfectly and cooked so well. We also got the wings and we were very disappointed. I didn't get a picture, but they were tiny and one biters. I think the flavor on the wings could have been but overall, just decent. My parents got the Miso Ramen and the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. The both said each of their ramen was especially tasty and has become their now favorites ! I was in the area and saw this ramen near where I was. I love a good ramen and this was good. I first had the Takoyaki appetizer. It's a fried ball with octopus in there. It took a while before anyone came to give us water and it was hard to get a server to return to the table after that. I'd give 1 star for service. My husband got the curry chicken katsudon and honestly this was the best Japanese curry I've had outside of my Japanese friends making it for me. It was delicious! I did think it was odd the meal was called a "rice bowl" but there was no bowl - it was very much deconstructed. Would've been easier to eat if it all came in a bowl but it looked nice for presentation. I had the tonkotsu ramen. It was good, but honestly every time I eat ramen I wish it was pho, haha. I was in need of ramen, specifically Spicy Tonkotsu ramen. I'd never tried Genki Ramen Izakaya before but was excited to try it. I called in my pick up order. The person I spoke to was very polite and assisted me with modifying one of my order items to fit the needs of a relative. He recommended the regular Tonkotsu ramen. I was able to substitute the pork for chicken. I only ordered 2 orders of ramen. It took about 15-20 min to fix. The process from ordering to paying to receiving my order was pretty streamline. The spicy Tonkotsu ramen was really good. I highly recommend it. There are sooo many ramen options at this location though that I definitely see myself returning for dine in service to try other menu items. I arrived a bit early and had the chance to check out the dining area. The atmosphere is pretty chill...definitely family friendly. The setup is nice for lunch or dinner. From what I saw, the dine in experience did appear to be more traditional with servers and real dishes and such. That's something I'll keep in mind to for when I return. This restaurant is very accessible and clean. I find the decor and siding in the bathrooms, beautifully clean. The times I have been here I have been greeted and sat promptly. The food has also come out quickly. I have shared the ramen bowls and ordered appetizers. This has been a great opportunity to experience multiple dishes. I recommend ordering the salted edamame over the garlic, spicy edamame, because with the ramen, and in this case, pancake appetizer, there ended up being too many bold flavors, and several options with sticky sauce on top. This would've provided more balance to the meal and I think I would've enjoyed it more. The ramen was very flavorful and well-balanced. It had a very strong beef bones flavor that I wasn't quite prepared for, but it was not lacking. The balance between broth, noodles, vegetables, and protein was excellent. I did prefer another pork bowl over this one simply because the flavor was more for my palette. The pancake, which I was thrilled we ordered because I enjoyed it so much more than I would've ever thought, was something the waitress recommended, who was absolutely lovely by the way. I've never had a product here that I didn't really like. There's one particular fried chicken thigh super garlicy nugget thing that is amazing. I also have never gone in and ordered without a language barrier getting in the way.. English is my first language and I speak Spanish as well as I do English. Meeting a friend for dinner here on a late Sunday was a pleasant experience. Both of us had looked over the menu and didn't really know what we wanted so we asked the waitress when she arrived and she broke down her favorite dishes for us. We went with the spicy pork and spicy chicken ramen as well as the chicken karrage. The karrage came out first, with a very light but flavorful fry and two sauces that perked up the overall flavor quite a bit. Normally not a big fried chicken fan but this was a good selection. The ramen dishes came out closely after, typing hot and loaded up with goodies.
