We had an outstanding experience with DJ Okyne for our wedding and would highly recommend them to any couple looking for a professional, organized, and talented entertainment team. From the very beginning, the entire Okyne team was fantastic to work with. Every interaction--from the initial outreach and planning process to the day-of execution--was professional, responsive, and well-organized. Wedding planning can be overwhelming, but Okyne made the entertainment portion surprisingly straightforward. Their process was streamlined and easy to follow, with a few check-ins leading up to the wedding, a user-friendly planning portal, and a final walkthrough meeting where we reviewed the timeline minute by minute. One of the most unique and memorable parts of our experience was the personalized support we received from DJ Okyne's owner, DJ Al. We wanted to create a custom first dance by combining two songs that were meaningful to us, and DJ Al personally helped us bring that vision to life. He turned around the custom mix incredibly quickly, followed our specifications exactly, and provided thoughtful recommendations on how to blend the songs together in a way that felt natural and flowed well for our choreography. He even gave us multiple options to consider so we could choose the version that best matched our vision. The final product turned out beautifully and became one of our favorite parts of the wedding. It was such a fun and unique addition to the planning process, and we truly appreciated the level of care, creativity, and personal attention he brought to it. Music was one of the most important aspects of our wedding, and we spent a lot of time curating playlists for each phase of the event. The team was incredibly accommodating and worked seamlessly with our detailed Spotify playlists and vision for the day. We essentially created multiple playlists for different moments throughout the wedding, and the Okyne team embraced our organization, provided helpful recommendations, and worked hard to bring the exact vibe we wanted to life. We worked with DJ Alan on our wedding day, and he was excellent. He was attentive, responsive, and clearly invested in making sure both we and our guests had an amazing experience. When we requested songs, they were played. When we asked him to politely decline guest requests and stick closely to our curated selections, he followed our wishes exactly. Throughout the evening, he read the room well, mixed songs seamlessly, and knew exactly when to shift the energy into a more dance-focused atmosphere that kept the dance floor packed. He put a tremendous amount of care into creating a fun experience and ensuring everyone had a great time. One recommendation for future couples: consider adding live musicians to accompany the DJ. We chose to add a saxophonist and drummer, and they absolutely elevated the experience. The combination of a DJ with live musicians created an incredible hybrid between a traditional wedding band and DJ set. Their performances during our first dance and throughout open dancing brought an extra level of energy and excitement that our guests loved. The musicians were exceptionally talented and added a unique, high-end feel to the celebration. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with DJ Okyne and DJ Alan. My wife and I want to start by saying this review is based on the services of DJ Al and the services provided by his wife and assistant. Our wedding was back on June 9, 2012 and honestly there is no better way to say this than just stating how phenomenal Al and his staff were. My wife and I first met with Al and his assistant long before the wedding to hammer out the details of the costs involved and to get a feel for what Al brought to the table. After one meeting we immediately paid an extra fee to reserve Al for our wedding day; the professionalism, attitude, and overall personality confirmed to my wife and I that Al was the guy for the job. The website for Okyne Medialab made the process that much simpler. From choosing the music you want (or not want) to scheduling the night how you want it (down to 5 minute increments if desired) simply eased our minds that we were going to be on the same page throughout the night. Once the big day was a couple weeks away, Al talked with us on the phone to go over the schedule we inputted on the website, to double check names to make sure he had the pronunciation correct, and to go over the music we selected. Aside from the first dance, cake-cutting song, entrance song, and father/bride & groom/mother songs, we only selected a few songs we absolutely did not want to hear. We wanted Al to play what he felt was right and gave him complete control of the music. He earned our trust over and over again throughout the process and he did NOT disappoint, as half of our wedding (200+ attended) were still dancing at the end of the night. What encouraged us more about Al was the flexibility and genuine care he showed throughout the night. There were times when we had to change the timing of some toasts and delay some events (cake cutting) because it was obvious people were having fun and we didn't want to ruin the moment. Al was more than willing to do whatever we wanted, not to mention ask us throughout the night if there was anything we needed at all. It was obvious this is what he loves to do. The one thing every bride and groom MUST realize is that the DJ is the person who runs the night. In our opinions people remember two things from a wedding; how the food was and whether or not they had fun. Al can't control the food, but he is the catalyst for the good times on the dance floor and whether or not the night runs smoothly. Do NOT cheap out and go with someone who is a couple bucks cheaper because you WILL regret it. Al showed up hours before the event, thus relieving us of any worry, and truly made our night a huge success. My wife and I want to thank Al and his staff for the services they provided. We used Okyne Medialab, with Al as our DJ, for our August, 2011 wedding and could not have been happier. We booked Al right away as our DJ, which they allow you to do by paying a fee/tip upfront. We decided he was the best fit for us after reading about his passion for music and his business model. Without hesitation I can say that Al was the BEST part of our wedding! We had never met with Al, but had skyped with him before the wedding, and emailed several times. When we walked into our wedding ceremony and Al was set up and ready to go, and the music went off without a hitch, we knew it was going to be a good night. We were married at The Westin in Lombard, and to say wedding coordinator was a challenge to work with would be an understatement. However, Al's personality and professionalism is EXACTLY what we needed (and were lacking from our coordinator). He had the entire wedding party where they needed to be when they need to be there, he got my husband and I our first drinks, and when our wedding coordinator failed to give him the correct line up of our speeches (music began to play again when our Maid of Honor was about to give her speech) I looked at Al from across the room and without a moment of hesitation Al knew exactly what I needed. He immediately transitioned the music off and announed the next speaker. Having someone that was so intune with my husband and I was an absolute bonus that I didn't expect. As for the dancing...there was NOT a moment that the dance floor was not packed! People of all generations were enjoying all the music playing. When he wasn't playing requested songs, AL picked great music, and was just a blast to work with. After the wedding, I couldn't believe how many people called to say how awesome our dj was!!! One of the things that sold me on Okyne were the reviews written by people who had hired Okyne and how much their guests loved their dj. So when that happened to me, I was just blown away. After the wedding, AL even contacted us to let us know that he picked up something that was left behind at the reception, and was mailing it to us. This is the kind of person Al is. He goes above and beyond just the job of a DJ. Al is professional, FUN, friendly, CREATIVE, talented, and a great business man. You sign the contract and you're taken to the online web portal client tool where YOU tell THEM what you want at your wedding. There are lists with everything you may or may not want. Bouquet toss? Check yes. Garter toss? Check no. Then you fill in the songs you want for moments or special dances. The "like it, love it, hate it" feature is amazing. One of the biggest selling points of Okyne is they work for you, not themselves and not anyone else. I loathe line dances and put as many of them as I could think of on the hate it list. I was told very clearly that meant they weren't getting played no matter who tried to bribe the DJ to play cha-cha slide. A week and a half before my wedding, we had a zoom call with the owner Al, who took a half hour to go through every single choice with us, recording pronunciations, finding our special request songs, answering questions we had about what certain things were. Then a few days before the wedding we get a call from our DJ for the event, Jose. Same thing. He's going over every song, asking us our preferences, making sure that the specialty songs were the correct versions, asking us our preferences for downtime music, etc. But here's the big take home. I told Jose (and this was the reason I chose Okyne to begin with) that I was going to have 200 guests at my wedding. 100 of them are in their 20s. 100 of them are over 50. I wanted as many people on that dancefloor as much as possible. That meant the 20 something and the 50 something. I don't know how Jose pulled this off but my dancefloor was PACKED the entire night. Everyone, youngest to oldest, was having a great time, because Jose was reading the room to fit our vibe, and did an excellent job of spacing out our special requests.. My husband and I booked with OML for our wedding on June 8th, 2013 and OML did a PHENOMENAL job for us - we couldn't have been more pleased! We met with Al (the owner of OML), after having previously met with a few other DJ companies, and we knew right on the spot that we wanted to book with them. Al was so professional, articulate, organized, passionate about his business, and just an overall cool kind of guy. He explained everything to us and how his company sets itself apart from typical wedding DJs. He answered all of our questions and then let us listen to a sample of some songs that an upcoming wedding had chosen --- we heard the way the songs mixed and faded and all of that other cool, hip DJ lingo that I know nothing about...all I know was that I felt like I was in dance club --- in a really cool way though --- and my husband and I wanted to crash that upcoming wedding because it sounded like it was going to be so much fun! We booked with them on the spot!! I then corresponded with Stacy (Al's lovely wife and business partner) via email a bit over the next several months. She answered any questions I had and guided me through the process. Stacy was incredibly organized and responsive, professional yet friendly. Then my husband and I had the opportunity to attend a friend's wedding where OML was DJing. DJ Alan did a great job on their wedding which made us even that much more excited for ours a few weeks after. DJ Dan was the DJ chosen for our wedding. We COULD NOT have asked for anything more - he was amazing! I actually called him a few days before with a silly question and he was very professional and calming and put me at ease with whatever silly thing I was worried about. We had such a wonderful time at our wedding and cannot say enough good things about Al and the Okyne Medialab team. We are still receiving compliments from everyone about how Al kept the party going and all of our guests - even the Indian aunties and uncles - were on the dance floor until the very end. On Friday, Al led a history-making procession down Michigan avenue with the groom & his family. The dhol player - also recommended by Okyne Medialab - did an awesome job and didn't take a break, even when he was navigating three flights of stairs! Al did an outstanding job of incorporating the very specific dandia/raas music and could sense when we needed to switch up the bollywood music to get everyone on the dance floor. He even mixed in a special request for my niece and kept the party going until midnight. All of our guests were on the dance floor, which is a true testament to Al's ability to read the room, his extensive knowledge about us as a couple and our families, and his crazy special talent on the turntables. We didn't think it could get better on Saturday - until it did. Saturday was epic. Not only did Al artfully and gracefully mix together New Orleans bounce, 90's hip hop, & bollywood music, but he also picked the perfect song to accompany our photographer's slideshow, which made the slideshow so much more special. When our rowdy crowd began chanting "ONE LAST SONG" (which is the true sign of a good party), Al graciously played one more hit to close out the night. He worked seamlessly with our family and our wedding coordinator and helped us keep everything on schedule. It was clear through every moment of the weekend that he truly listened to everything we said and had a sense of who we were as a couple - which means more than you know. As my new husband said on Sunday morning, we would be much happier if Al could just DJ our life. Everyone is still talking about the epic dance party and our wedding weekend was so special because Okyne Medialab was a part of it. Okyne Medialab was professional and incredible from start to finish. We decided to meet with them because they had DJed our friends' wedding and we liked the fact that we couldn't remember the DJ, only the music that he played. Five minutes into the meeting there was no question in my mind that we would hire them - the was no comparison with the other DJs we'd looked at. At our wedding, just as at our friends', the DJ stayed in the background and didn't try to steal the spotlight or make cheesy comments, but instead stayed behind his table and spun an awesome set list that had everyone of all generations dancing all night. The music was perfect. We had the opportunity to pick songs we specifically did and did not want played and Al Okyne met with us multiple times and kept in close contact to make sure the night was planned out smoothly. The DJ checked with us multiple times during the night to make sure it was okay to play particular songs or do certain things - he even saw that we were outside on a balcony when he was about to put a block of our "Must Play" songs on, and came out to let us know so that we didn't miss them! Their online tools make the whole process SUPER easy, and NO DETAIL is left out! Al and his team work incredibly hard, with incredible professionalism, to make sure your wedding and reception are totally awesome. They were flexible as we changed some of our details and we wound up having them do the sound for our ceremony as well. They are totally in touch with the music scene and with current culture; they aren't some fortysomething in a bow tie singing songs you don't care about on a keyboard. They worked closely and politely with our other vendors and it was the smoothest process that I could have imagined. My wedding day was 10-8-2022 and my DJ was through Okyne. In late August, the original DJ I had planned for my day canceled and I struggled for days trying to find a DJ. I emailed so many firms and my experiences were horrible (I will not name the firms out of respect to my experience due of my previous DJ backing out). After so many emails and calls, I found Okyne. Instead of emailing, I called and Al picked up the phone. I told him my situation and he immediately checked his schedule and said he'd be happy to book my day. This took a huge weight out of my shoulders because of my situation and we interviewed the following week. I wrote up my own itinerary and presented it to Al on our zoom call and he paired me with DJ Vestus. Vestus also gave me a call to go over the itinerary and I answered any questions he had and went over each page from the type music played during cocktail hour, dinner, dance floor, etc. The day finally came and I met DJ Vestus after the church at the venue. This was my first time seeing him in person and the confidence I felt through his voice and the energy he showed made me feel that this will be an amazing night. Vestus went over everything again with me while we setup the venue for guest. He got to know everyone and pronounce the names correctly for introductions. Each event in the venue had different genres of music. Vestus was able to follow my playlists with everything that was requested. We all know that the main part of the venue is when dinner, first dances and money dance is over with and the dancing begins. I created a reggaeton playlist for DJ Vestus that was over 12 hours long. Vestus managed to turn those 12 hours of songs to 3-4 hours with the touch of his creative side. My guest loves the music and lights provided, there wasn't a moment that no one was on the dance floor. There wasn't a time where my guest came to me and asked me where I found this DJ because he kept the energy up to the end of the party. We decided to use Okyne at the recommendation of our wedding planner. Our DJ night-of (Chris) was fantastic, playing almost entirely songs off our suggested playlist but making good decisions in the moment to keep everyone dancing. We had a full dance floor throughout the event, but the volume and was also such that when we (and guests) needed a break, we could sit and chat without overpowering music. It was fantastic to dance to all our favorite 80s rock classics, and everyone has a great time. We also has great sound and lovely music throughout the ceremony, dinner (everyone could hear the toasts), and the DJ did a great job announcing families called over for pictures. Every part of the event ran smoothly, thanks in part to our MC. We also chose to include a looping slideshow of fun photos for the guests, and the projector/screen setup from Okyne was the perfect size (big but not overwhelming for the space) and we got compliments throughout the night. Most importantly I should highlight their fantastic flexibility and customer service. We were complicated customers, and they rolled with everything. They gave us a gender-inclusive form to fill out (we're two brides and our wedding party was all-gender), allowed us to send Spotify Playlists for "Must Plays" and "Suggested," completely understood our vague "don't play" descriptions (we're very picky about music), and accommodated our need for specific audio files (I cut our first dance song down to 2 minutes, changed the tempo of our aisle song, etc.). Most importantly, they were incredibly flexible with our multiple reschedulings. We signed a contract in late 2019, pushed a Jan 2021 wedding back to Jan 2022, and then with Omicron had to push back to March 2022 with a week's notice. Through it all Okyne was one of the easiest vendors to deal with, and made the stressful process easier. Okyne Medialab to DJ our wedding is likely one of the best decisions my wife and I made. We were referred by a colleague of mine and we did not look much elsewhere and went with our gut. We had an initial in-person meeting with one of their customer service reps, detailing the entire process, what's included or not included, and the timeline of it all. She answered many questions we had or followed back up on some. She showed us exactly how we would work with them through their online portal (very helpful and made the final planning seamless) Al and Stacy were constantly available to answer any questions over email or set up a time to talk outside of normal business hours when we were wedding planning. Our venue is located far west of the city and they were able to accomodate our location for a small travel fee and we made sure that they had everything they needed for our venue. They were the ones who provided the microphones for the evening during the ceremony and dinner, they also were able to set up system for the ceremony room (different than reception) and our outdoor cocktail hour! Not sure how they pulled it off, my wife and I didn't even notice, but seemed like our DJ was well prepared. Our DJ was Allen and he did a fantastic job utilizing the in-house system our venue had for the dinner and had a great setup for the reception! He introduced everyone, moved the night along in sync with our venue's timeline and worked with our photographer on key moments in the night for when certain songs/pictures needed to be taken! He always asked or approached us when he was unsure but made sure not to bother us more than a few times, and he closed the night with making sure the announcements on transportation and after-party bar were known! Al and Stacy helped plan and work through all of what my wife and I were looking for and I'm happy and thankful that one of the biggest parts of the wedding pulled through in a bigger way than we expected. Okyne Media Lab was a wonderful source of entertainment for our wedding. We really could not have been more pleased with their services - from beginning to end. Our wedding night went off without a hitch, and was everything we had imagined (and more), which, is in large part due to their professionalism, promptness, attention to detail, charisma, creativity, personality and the passion they have for what they do. Al Okyne was FANTASTIC and truly made both our experience, and our guests' experience, a special one. He played all of the right songs at exactly the right moments, and kept the dance floor full until 1am - which, is quite an accomplishment, considering we had more than 300 guests at varying ages in attendance! Al was also an amazing MC with a "contagious energy" - keeping the night on track and flowing at an absolutely PERFECT pace. He even brought along a live sax player (per our last minute request) to play along with his sets throughout the night; it was quite a hit! My husband and I really could not be happier with our decision to hire Al for our reception, and would do so again in a heartbeat. We received an endless number of compliments specifically pertaining to the music / our DJ, and already have requests for Al's contact information from guests who are currently planning their own weddings, which, again, shows just how amazing he was. Choosing your DJ is one of the most important things you will do in the wedding planning process, as the DJ really does control and lead the vast majority of the night. He / she sets the tone for your guests, and for you. When searching for a DJ, my wife put me in charge (one of the few things that I was trusted to help out with). I must admit that I thought it'd be an easy task, but after our first couple meetings, I felt a little differently. Luckily, our next meeting was with Al Okyne, who was flexible enough to meet us on our home turf out in the suburbs (unlike some other vendors who seem to only operate out of Chicago). Within minutes of sitting with Al, we were sold as he was very down to Earth and was able to present all of the things we were looking for in a DJ (great taste in music, plenty of experience in manning a dance floor, and very personable). From that day on, we had a great experience with Okyne MediaLab. The online tools were very helpful, and the responsiveness of everyone involved (including Al and Stacy) was exceptional. This continued all the way up to our big day (June 9, 2012). We were lucky to have DJ Alan assigned to our wedding ceremony - he proved to continue the reputable service that we had come to know through all interactions thus far in the process. And more importantly, Alan was able to command the reception from the beginning. We wanted our reception to run efficiently leading into the dance floor, and Alan was able to keep everything moving as we hoped (leaving little down time in which our guests could lose interest). Okyne Medialab was the best DJ we could have chosen for our wedding. After meeting with many DJs in the Chicago area, we met with Al Okyne and immediately knew they were our team. My wife and I got married Aug 14th, 2010 and DJ Matt from Okyne Medialab was our DJ at the W Lakeshore. Directly from the get go DJ Matt put us at ease. He met us at the cocktail hour, after pictures and said "everything is going great, we are all set - now how can I help you?". The dance floor was packed the entire night, to the point that people were chanting "one more song" at the end of the night (being 1:30am). DJ Matt pleased the crowd by playing one more song. I think we could have gone on all night if the W would have let us. So many people came up to us and couldn't believe how quickly the night went (great music will do that). Not once did my wife or I have to request or say anything to Matt. He progressed the night perfectly, read what the crowd was feeling and really controlled the party. At numerous points through out the evening even our 80+ year old grandparents were up there dancing. Not to mention did Okyne Medialab provide the best music/MC we could have asked for but they were by far the best vendor we dealt with also (out 8 vendors working the reception). Al and Stacy Okyne (that's right, how often can you deal directly with the owner) were extremely responsive via email and phone not to mention the many meetings where we sat down with Al in person. Stacy would regularly remind us when payments and planning forms were due. They also have an amazing online planning, payment and song request (play, maybe play, do not play) tool. Okyne Medialab was 5-star quality from the time we requested information through our wedding day. Stacy was extremely responsive to all of our questions and flexible in accommodating our appointment requests, especially since we were planning our wedding remotely. She provided all of the necessary details instrumental towards our decision-making. As soon as we met Al in person, we knew he'd be the perfect fit for our music needs for our wedding. Al has a fantastic personality, is very knowledgeable and professional, and helped us develop a great rapport with him from our initial meeting. Al was early/on-time for all of our appointments and on the day of, and asked very thorough questions about our venue logistics since it was a new venue for him. We love how progressive Okyne is with using technology to manage our profile, timeline, song lists. We also hired Al to provide music for our ceremony; after only speaking with him for about 30 minutes during our venue walk-through, the timing and coordination of every ceremony song was perfect during the ceremony itself. They were very accommodating in enabling us to choose a playlist for our dinner music and adhered to our request for no song requests from our guests. As a result, Al helped create a perfect playlist that kept our guests on the dance floor throughout the night. It a big help to us that Al has extensive experience, especially working with our other vendors such as photographer and planner. It also helped greatly that Al was more than willing to offer his services for no additional charge for another 30 minutes since our reception fell behind schedule.
