The police were willing to help me during our interaction. They offered to take me to the hospital to get checked out.

Officer Eric Clark was a big help this morning. I appreciate the blue being out on severe mornings like we had today. Thank you.

Lenexa Police Department - Fall 2024 Citizens Police Academy graduating class

Last week I graduated from the Fall 2024 Citizens Police Academy (CPA), and that's what prompted me…read moreto write this review. The CPA is a 12-week class that educates citizens about the mission undertaken by the men and women of the Lenexa Police Department. Each 3.5-hour, weekly class featured a different topic, different departments, and different presenters. I was really blown away by what I learned about all the various ways the LPD serves our city, the passion of the employees to protect and serve, and the quality of the facilities, leadership, vehicles, equipment, and more. I learned that there are other educational opportunities that the LPD offers Lenexa residents, including a ride-along program; a semi-annual, four-week use of force workshop; and a summer camp for tweens and teens. I intend to avail myself of some of those! Most of all, I came away with a greater respect for the difficult work these folks do, both physically and emotionally. It gave me more appreciation for the sacrifices they make on our behalf and a greater understanding of how much they deserve our support. I highly recommend this course for anyone considering a career in law enforcement, residents wanting a better idea of how your tax dollars are being used, and resources available to us at no expense (beyond our tax payments) to help prevent crime and keep ourselves safe. If you want to find out more, visit the LPD's Facebook page or website, or call community liaison Master Officer Danny Chavez at the non-emergency number.

The new courthouse is the fourth to serve the county and was ready in 2021. It stands seven stories tall and has 356,821 square feet of space, designed to serve the rapidly growing population with modern security, technology and accessibility features. The count selected the design and build team of JE Dunn, TreanorHL and Fentress Architects in 2017. The building's contemporary civic design emphasizes openness, natural light and clear circulation, a deliberate contrast to the 1952 courthouse it replaced. Johnson County itself was established in 1855 and named for Reverend Thomas Johnson, a Methodist missionary who founded the Shawnee Methodist Mission in the region. Olathe has served as the county seat since the county's earliest years, and the courthouse has remained in downtown Olathe throughout all four generations of buildings. Walking around the new structure, you can see how it anchors the government district just north of Santa Fe Street, continuing the long tradition of keeping county government centered here. Even without going inside, the scale, design and purpose of the building make it clear why Johnson County needed a modern courthouse, and exploring it on a quiet holiday morning was a pleasant way to appreciate that history. What can I say? It's a Courthouse, a rather nice looking Courthouse, for sure. I've seen less…read moreinviting ones. This Courthouse was opened in January 2021. The open concept of the building's design lends to a less ominous feeling which is common in courthouses due to their serious nature. The Sheriff's Deputies manning the entrance were efficient and friendly, but not overly friendly, as they should be. I'm here today to serve as a Petit Juror. Upon entering the building and passing through security, I checked in on the second floor and was directed to an assembly room along with 20 other potential jurors. We are seated on hard plastic chairs at tables which are arranged to seat four persons each to the right and six persons to the left sides of the room. At the front is a wall monitor and a podium, as well as four smaller monitors hanging from the ceiling. We sat there for over an hour, with no one speaking a word, when the Jury Coordinator came in and addressed us. Most folks here are either on their phones, me included. After the Coordinator greated us and explained that we were free to roam around the second floor until she came for us, several people engaged in conversation. I expect that I'll be here most of the day.
