The dental office on post lost my trust after the dentist there and his assistant (who are super nice BTW) dropped instruments during my appointment to get a temporary crown. Not only that, but after 3 days the temporary crown fell out when I was eating a sandwich (not something that was even that hard)!! Additionally, when I called the Fort Leavenworth clinic about it, they said that having a temporary crown fall out after 3 days was normal! I just don't see that as being the case. All these shenanigans was after getting referred for a root-canal that should've been followed within 3-6 weeks with the temporary crown. Fort Leavenworth forced me into the above appointment 7-8 weeks after the root-canal and basically told me "tough" at their front desk and to "just be careful" with the tooth that just received the root-canal. Needless to say, that's when I started wondering if I could go somewhere else. The on post dental clinic is severely lacking in customer service at their front desk and a level of competence that I'm comfortable with. After calling TRICARE (insurance) for my procedures, they gave me a list that I whittled down to a couple places. I eventually chose Olathe Smiles Dentistry because they could do all of the procedures I needed AND do them all in one day with NO follow-up appointments (pending any unanticipated complications). The dental clinic (Ebony) on post very begrudgingly set up the referral for me. No one likes confrontation, but I am SO glad I put an end to my suffering at their hands. Olathe Smiles Dentistry was great from when I checked in (Ebony screwed up the insurance referral paperwork that Olathe Smiles front desk ladies fixed PROACTIVELY), to the assistants and the doctors. First, I saw Trish who works with the periodontist Dr. McKenzie. She got me x-rays and helped out during my root lengthening. "Root lengthening" really should be called something else because it's when they cut out gums from around your tooth and sometimes grind down bone. I was nervous going in. However, both Trish and Dr. McKenzie were hilarious and their conversations REALLY set me at ease and took my mind off of the procedure. Immediately following that appointment (same day) I moved from one room to another for the permanent crown to be put in. Dr. Rawalt and Benita (I think) were the ones helping with that. They were both great as well! I can't express how thankful I am to go to one place for fixing the shenanigans related to that one tooth. Even with a sore jaw right now, I am extremely relieved to have gotten the procedures done by a staff that was not only VERY customer service oriented, they showed empathy through distracting and hilarious conversation (anthropology, Star Wars, toddler hyjinx...), and they were competent as well as efficient. When I phoned this office, they booked my appointment with no issue. But upon arrival, the front desk receptionist is very rude. The receptionist said that I will need to call Aetna to verify if my insurance PPO or HMO. It was such a frustrating experience. After 15 minutes, I decided to leave. It is not worth my headache. As a new patient, I did not feel welcomed but judged. I was treated and talked to with disrespect and treated like a minority and outsider. The demeanor along was filled with discrimination and discomfort. So I told them that if you do not want my business, its Ok. im happy to leave. So I left.

Dr Boyce greeted me and told me what to expect with my appointment and addressed any questions I had. All of the staff, from the office manager to dental assistants and hygienist were so friendly and were able to ease any hesitations I had. I was in and out of the office in under an hour which was great! I was also happy to learn Dr Boyce is a Lees Summit resident. I felt appreciated as a patient and that my time was valuable. There were no high pressure sales tactics or guilt for not having been to a dentist in a while like I have experienced elsewhere. I'm not sure why I put it off so long. I will definitely be back to see Dr Boyce for my next exam!

My experience as a new patient at Crossroads Dentistry came down to a repeated lack of respect for…read moremy time and a miserable experience in the chair on top of it. From the very first phone call, I was clear: I have real time constraints, and I did not want to split X-rays and cleaning into separate visits. I asked to do everything in one appointment. I was told that would push my start date out, and I accepted the wait to avoid multiple trips. When I arrived, I was told they couldn't do the cleaning that day and I'd have to come back -- the exact thing I'd asked to avoid. What made it worse was that I was surrounded by other patients who appeared to be getting their cleanings, so the claim that it couldn't be done didn't add up. The dentist found a few cavities, so on my way out I again asked to combine the cleaning and fillings into one visit. They agreed. Yet at that appointment, I got the cleaning, was sent back to the waiting room for fillings, waited about 20 minutes, and was then told the dentist was too backed up and I'd need to return -- either later that day or another day entirely. That's now a third trip for something I explicitly tried to schedule in one, and it doesn't even account for the deep cleaning or Invisalign still ahead. The X-ray process itself was also rough. The assistant handled the apparatus so aggressively that at points I thought my gums were bleeding from it scraping against them. On top of that, a second assistant had to come in and redo the X-rays because they weren't done correctly the first time. Between the constant rescheduling and the care I received, I won't be returning. Whether it's a scheduling problem or something else, the office here does not respect its patients' time.

Sadly, I was already thinking of finding a different place because her staff are unprofessional. This was confirmed last week. I couldn't remember my appointment because I usually depend on a text notification confirmation. I didn't get the text until after I called. I called 24 hours in advance to learn it was the next day but I already knew I would need to reschedule for the following week. The lady on the phone wanted to know "what was going on" that I could not come and would just cancel my appointment. Why do you need to know this and why won't you just reschedule? I learned that I would be billed because I did not cancel 48 hours in advance. That's fine however, It doesn't make sense to send a text notification 24 hours in advance when your cancellation policy is 48 hours in advance. You should maybe send it 48 hours in advance so people will know the policy and not get billed when you have not provided a service. That's TACKY!
