I've have had extensive dental work done that supposedly was needed and have had an extremely traumatizing experience over the past five years. I was told they needed to start with "the worst" and proceeded to tell me I need thousands of work done. After receiving my first crown, I had a very strange sensation and was in severe pain and told that day to "wait" to see if it got better. Two years later it was deemed cracked by a specialist and needed to be extracted. The infection was brewing for years without being caught despite cleanings/check ups every 6 months. The bone loss that occurred was significant and affected the nearby teeth as well. I also had a crown done break off at the gum line that required a bridge in which they could not complete without me not being able to eat on it for months. If I touched the front of the bridge it caused extensive pain. I told them about it and they informed me that it would "get better", I then told them (after months) that I needed a lab made bridge and after four months of suffering I received that. I also had another molar which was crowned crack underneath it. In total I have had 3 crowns crack underneath and they all had to be extracted. I also had a second root canal done in which the infection was not caught until I paid out of pocket to get a pano done at the periodontist and then had to pay more for a radiologist to read the report. I have paid thousands to this dental office only to be left with seeing more specialists out of pocket to fix the work that was done or to find out I'm losing the tooth. I am left with permanent occlusion issues and the emotional distress of waiting for something else to come up after getting work done here. Edit: They will not respond to refund any of the crowns that were lost or pay for any root canal retreatment. They also did not even respond to the letter I wrote them addressing the concerns of the money spent or the dental work that resulted in seeing specialists to fix. To top everything off, I went to another dentist who said that they are concerned my crowns were not properly sealed. More money to fix and no compensation. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. They will over sell, rip you off and do mediocre to sub par work. Dr Katie Walker, the office manager, the dental assistant that does the crowns, the dental hygienist, and another dental assistant, all failed to do an adequate job over a 7 visit stretch, from 2020-2021. Two years later I'm still dealing with the aftermath. First I was talked into unnecessary products and extra cleanings by the hygienist. Then I was told I needed several crowns when some only needed fillings. I allowed them to start with the "worst" ones. The one crown they made in house isn't the same color as my other teeth, it has a brown tint. The others they did had to be lab made because they were too inexperienced with their new equipment to make quality crowns that fit correctly. During one visit I was in the chair for hours and the numbing stuff wore off and they continued to work while I was in pain. That visit went on well after the office had closed for the day. Which was when the office manager inserted herself into the situation and only cause more problems. During another visit the dentist left the assistant to make the final adjustments on the new lab created crowns and she tried drilling on the wrong tooth. The crowns I elected not to get with them due to all of my frustrations, later another dentist fixed the teeth with fillings. I wonder if I needed any of them in the first place. I spent so much money out of pocket beyond what my insurance covered, thousands. The final straw that made me write this review was I just found out that all of the crowns they did need replaced, only two years later. The gap between the tooth and the crown (or margin) is too large which will allow bacteria in and cause decay in the tooth that is under the crown. read more

I'm writing this to try to bring a little balance to the discussion. I am actually taking my business elsewhere but it's not for all bad reasons. 1) When they moved offices, it just became too inconvenient. 2) I do feel like they are always "selling something." I can never leave my exam without being badgered into buying something else. Pros: This is a very nice, updated office. My hygienist was incredibly personable and professional. I actually never saw Dr. Ryan, but rather the other dentist he had on staff. She too, was professional and gracious. Cons: For me, it was just too far after they moved from 127th street and I still feel like they are overselling, overcharging, etc. Hopefully this helps you make a decision. read more

On my first visit, they told me that I had 13 cavities, didn't show me the X-rays, and then tried to get me to schedule an appointment to get them all filled the following day! They wanted to charge me over $2,500 to fill all my cavities. Talk about high-pressure and manipulative sales tactics! I then went to an alternative dentist who told me that I only had 3 and therefore only charged me $300. Of course dentistry is somewhat subjective, but this place is clearly trying to make a quick buck. read more

Not sure about you, but I hate having someone digging around in my mouth and I sure wasn't going to just randomly pick a dentist. So I asked around and a friend directed me here. Walked in and it took me a bit to figure out I was in a dance studio and needed to ride the elevator to the second floor to get to the dentist office. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Even after I showed up late cause I got lost and they had to give me directions over the phone. Then to make it worse I forgot my insurance card. Still they were patient with me. And got me in and out on time. They have several rooms with an open hallway, no doors kinda layout. You still have privacy, but it feels more open. They have these fancy screens to show you your x-rays and cavities if you've got 'em like me. As the gal cleaned my mouth she was gentle and explained everything she did. Then Dr. Ryan came in to check my X-rays and discuss them with me. Now I'm a clean person. Brush and floss like the rest of you. But I hate going to the dentist and put it off for 2 years. But this experience was very pleasant and now I think I found a dentist I like. Plus you also get $25 off referral cards. So when they say you've got 3 cavities and have to come back, hey at least you get $25 off. read more

If you would like to end up in the emergency room, you should go here. I had a procedure done at Ryan Dental, that I later was told by multiple professionals was very dangerous...which is probably why I was in excrutiating pain after, ended up in the ER and was told I needed two emergency root canals because my nerves had gotten infected and died in two teeth that Ryan Dental had just worked on. I then later received another bill for this procedure (that I was not told I would be receiving), even though I had already payed that exact amount in full the same day I was in the office to have the work done. So I brought this situation to Ryan Dental's office management's attention in what I would consider a kind way for the amount of pain I had endured, mislead information I had been told and lack of warning in how potentially harmful the procedure could be, on top of the thousands of dollars I now had to pay for my ER visit and emergency root canals but was met with no response from the office. I then reached out again (maybe they didn't see the email I sent them?) and even reached out to the owner and was met with a cold, unempathetic, lack of acknowledgement or accountability of any part of the situation. This doctor has actually broken his oath and looked up records of mine that were irrelevant and technically should be charged with defamation of character and potentially lose his license. WARNING. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER. I went in for what I (((thought))) would be a normal procedure of getting my teeth cleaned, getting any cavities I had filled, and would be sent on my way. What actually happened was the worst nightmare I could have imagined. I am in the process of hiring a lawyer to file a m a l p r a c t i c e suit against this office and currently am left in what could be a very bad and permanent situation with my teeth. This office appears to be nice on the inside but the staff is extremely short and rude. Amanda who does billing didn't even look up at me when the dental assistant brought me to the check out counter. Doctor Ryan is very standoffish and instead of going here I would HIGHLY recommend taking your business elsewhere---you will thank me later. The entire staff is extremely rude, lacking in bedside manor, and you 100% are not in good hands if you go here. Save your time and money and never go here. The receptionists are very kind, but just about everyone else seems to treat you as lesser. I was in for a couple cleanings and every time, they tried to tell me I needed thousands of dollars of work/fillings. Every time I refused to get the treatment done, I have since gone to another dentist who told me the opposite of what they did, and every time I chose to not get the work done at Ryan, they always seemed to treat me differently after! Like they were annoyed with me or that I was a bad patient. Not everyone has all the money in the world for these things, plus it's always smart getting a second opinion. I had a 6 month dental exam which is covered by Medicare on 10/20/21. My teeth were cleaned and x-rays were taken. They billed Medicare $379 and advised I owed an additional $120 for the additional services which I paid before leaving. On 12/20/21 received an additional of $28 for 10/20/21 exam. read more

BEWARE, money hungry office. Took my son here for his cleaning. They told me he had 13 cavities. They fixed 4 but the work was not good. The color of the filling did not match his front teeth. Tried a different dentist for a second opinion, they said he only has 3 cavities. So now our new dentist is fixing the 4 Ryan dental said they fixed, who knows if they were actual cavities to begin with. Called Ryan dental told them what our new dentist said. Phenomenal l! I've been with Billy (Dr Ryan) for nearly 20 years. I have all of my teeth still. My insurance used to cover about 90%, now it covers around half....which plays a part sometime in people's opinions.....while he's not the cheapest dentist out there, his pricing is realistic. The staff is always nice, and the second most important thing is his ability. His ability make home fast. His office is efficient which is priceless. A crown in 45 minutes?? Yah...not a temporary either....the entire job. His staff compliments his speed. Very satisfied. I specifically sought out yelp to leave review because this is primarily a complaint website. So he let his tech glue the teeth to the implant screws ( WRONG ) ... many years later and many thousands later I'm all fixed up. DO NOT GO HERE Unless your are rich and don't care how much they charge you. I went in for a cleaning then was told I "had to have" a deep cleaning and that it was covered by my insurance. They charged me more for unnecessary treatment and then I found out when I received a bill that it wasn't covered plus their "fees" had changed without informing me. I'm on disability and they wouldn't even give me a discount. I signed a release form to get my records, Amanda never gave them to me after a month of calling her and continuously asking for them. I wish I could take them to court but I can't afford too. They are a nightmare to deal with and rip you off. read more

My local dentist has retired and he sent his patients records to Ryan Dental. I was not impressed with Ryan Dental, as some of the comments from the dentist & assistant didn't ring true and the front office demanded your full SS# and said " if you don't give it to us, you can't see the dentist!" Since then I have decided to go to Dr. Sheldon in Olathe and I and Dr. Sheldon's office have called Ryan Dental 4 or 5 times now asking for the copies of my records, most of the times it was ignored and one time they did send the new office one x-ray from 2011 (a 9 year old x-ray, what good will that do?). I had x-rays from Nov. 2019 and asked specifically 4 times, if we could have that one, and it was always ignored. I would not recommend this dentist. read more

Can't relate with all the bad reviews on here.. I avoided the dentist for years because of some not so good experiences in the past, and had quite a bit of work that needed done because of it. Everybody in that place is super friendly, and I didn't feel like I was being judged for the amount of work I needed to have done. Yeah it can get a little pricy depending on your insurance and what all needs to be done, but I don't have a problem paying a little more for quality work. In fact, half of what I had to have done here was replacing work that was done by "the cheapest option" several years ago back home. Long story short, I don't dread going to the dentist here like I always have, and definitely recommend them! read more

While the hygienists in Dr. Ryan's office are good they will nickel and dime you for everything. The prices he charges for crowns are way higher than industry standard. I've been going to Dr. Ryan for about 3 years but last week was my last time. They gave me this "mouth wash" to try. It looked like a trial size bottle but they charged me $5 for it. It is $2.23 with tax at Walgreens, $1.99 at Amazon etc just to give you an example. read more

I set up an appointment with the receptionist who said I could opt out of the X-rays for my cleaning. I already knew I had to pay out of pocket for an exam as well. Then when I get there the hygienist and dentist treat me like I was stupid to think I didn't have to get X-rays. I would not have wasted my time AND pay a babysitter to go to my appt had the receptionist told me otherwise. Ryan never apologized for his office error and made me feel completely at fault. read more

I have tried to come here multiple times. I had even referred people because there are 2 really friendly hygienists. However, I was in a previous time and spend around 6 hours because of mishaps with the crown molding. I was given a discount card and also discount card for referring. Today when I went and got my crown done, I was told I couldn't use them. The manager didn't come out, it was a messenger from the front desk. Saying it was "illegal to use them since they are only utilized for referrals". So why give them to me if they are the incorrect referral card. You made a wrong you tried to make it right then went SO SO wrong. If that would've happened where I ran business I wouldn't have clients. Maybe that is what is happening here. I will tell you, this place has potential bc dr Ryan is a good dentist, but saying you'll do something then withdrawing it AFTER I'm numb and drilled then make my decision is just plain bad business. She was nice but the assistant was complaining about her eye and then over telling me things as a customer that wasn't necessary and then cut me under my tongue. My whole family goes to Dr. Ryan and we are glad we do! Our hygienists are gentle and very pleasant. Having to get a shot is not at the top of my list, but it is made way more tolerable with Dr. Ryan's expertise. I could barely feel it! Also, the front staff is amazing. Very organized and pleasant, as well. We recently had used the wrong FSA cards and they very graciously backed out our charges and waited for us to call with new card numbers. Hygienists are nice but it pretty much ends there. For 2 years they tried to get my wife to replace the metal fillings she had. They offered a patient special so she had the work done. Not only has her tooth hurt constantly since having work done, they never applied the discount. I finally gave up after the 5th phone call to them, and being told every call that person who handled that wasn't in but would return my call immediately (never did). read more

I am extremely disappointed with both the service and follow up done by Dr. Ryan. I had four fillings completed by Dr. Ryan and within a week, it was clear to me something was not done correctly as I was experiencing unbearable dental pain for the first time in my entire life. I went back shortly after and Dr. Ryan redid one filling after agreeing something had gone wrong and was contributing to the pain. The pain in the other fillings continued and I went back again to discuss redoing the other three fillings as well, but this time he stopped by for a total of 120 seconds as he told me that that's just how dental work is and I should wait it out for six months. I told him there was absolutely no way I could continue to be in this much pain for six months, so he told me to go to an endodontist. Then he left. Zero compassion, unbelievably disappointing. It's now no wonder to me as to why Ryan Dental had to email patients and put up signs in the office offering prizes to win if patients left good reviews. Good reviews should come from quality service, not from the allure of winning something. I'll certainly be looking elsewhere for our family dentist. read more

The hygienist seems nice and seemingly did a good job on regular cleaning. However, the whole staff or atmosphere of the office seem to give me an impression of pressuring patients to get extra work done that may not be absolutely necessary or urgent. I feel as if their goal is to get as much out of the insurance payments and patients money as possible. It is not a good feeling. I don't plan to go back after 2 cleanings. read more

I am shocked by this office. I have never been treated so poorly! They offer dental plans to those who do not carry dental insurance. Great idea. couple hundred bucks to cover 2 cleanings & 30% off dental work. They told me I needed 2 root canals. I explained I wanted to explore my options, pricing for partials, implants etc. They wrote me up a patient plan with pricing for my root canal. I called them today to schedule & explain that I'd like one tooth pulled instead of a root canal performed & the other root canal & crown completed. Now the dentist doesn't want to do the work. Wants me to see an endo & oral surgeon. Ryan dental refused to do the work on me! Seems odd, especially after they made me purchase one of their dental plans just to be seen in their office, now I'm supposed to start all over with another person & NOT get the discount on the procedure. So I called back & explained that to them. Then I got the story that the dentist just looked at my ex-rays. So I ask, shouldn't that have been done BEFORE they gave me a patient plan to fix my tooth, then they began to back track. I asked to speak with an office manager, who I did interrupt on a few occasions, simply because she was not giving me any information, ONLY EXCUSES, she eventually got quite rude & said she was done talking to me!! They got $200 bucks from me & now refuse to honor their own dental plan! BEWARE OF THIS OFFICE! What they did isn't right. Don't shame someone, make them feel bad for exploring their options, that's wrong & that's all I was doing, & now they took my $ & basically said, get lost! I have been going to Family Dental Care at 151st and Blackbob for over 20 years. I have gotten to know and respect Dr. Neufeld and his staff over the years. He has had some really skilled assistants but none as competent as Maria. Recently, Dr. Neufeld retired and his office was taken over by Ryan Dental. In the last 3 years, my family had moved to a new area which made the drive to Family Dental Care inconvenient but we stayed with Dr. Neufeld because he and his staff were top notch. After he sold the business, I had reservations about staying but decided to continue with Ryan Dental due to the continued employment of Dr. Newfield's excellent assistants Maria and Linda. I needed a couple crowns in early December and it was great to have Maria assist the new dentist. She was excellent as always and was making suggestions to the dentist who seemed new to dental work. She did an excellent job giving me perfect temporary crowns. I told her my family would continue to support the business due to Ryan Dental keeping her and Linda on. I returned for my crowns two weeks later only to find Maria and Linda absent and new assistants working. The dentist determined one of the crowns they had received for me was bad and would need to be reordered. I didn't mind as I'd rather wait two more weeks and have the crown be done right. One odd practice I noticed was that they kept taking x-ray after x-ray of my teeth, probably 4 or 5 in total. The dentist started drilling on one of the teeth again after numbing me up. He kept walking away and coming back. Soon the numb wore off but he kept drilling. Finally, when he was done, I noticed I was there 2 hours for something that should have taken no more than 30 minutes. They took multiple impressions of the tooth. Over and over. Finally, the new assistant fashioned a new temporary crown on the tooth with a bad crown. It was terrible. It took almost an hour. The thing was loose by the time I got home and I had trouble with sensitivity issues for the next two weeks. When I returned for the permanent crown, once again, there was no Maria or Linda but plenty more x-rays. I waited about half an hour to get the new crown installed which is about 25 more minutes than I ever waited on Dr. Neufeld. A new dentist installed the corrected crown. On my way out I asked where the competent assistants were. I was told they had decided to leave Ryan dental. I don't know if either left willingly. Since there is no longer any competent staff left, we've decided to look elsewhere for our dental care. We will really miss the team that ran Family Dental Care over the last 20+ years. Beware of Ryan Dental! They are not nearly as skilled as Family Dental Care was and go way overboard on the x-rays. read more
