Beautiful setting. There are some sites right in the water if you're lucky enough to book those. Certain sections are for dogs only. The loops are not wide streets and it was a little tight to get out of our spot with a 28' and extended cab truck. If there were another camper parked across from us we wouldn't have been able to get out. Laundry on site and the store had tons of snacks. Past the old basketball court (across from section D) is a wandering nature trail/Maze. Staff that we interacted with were friendly and quick. Really quiet and peaceful place to stay for 2 weeks. Walmart is within 20 minutes if you need anything. Check out the Circle R farm store right down the street, too! read more

If you're looking for a different place to explore, this park is well worth the drive. They have a couple playgrounds for kids, but the real draw is two separate and challenging disc golf courses. Plus camping is offered for people who want to make a weekend of it, a marina/boat launch, and lots of spots for fishing. Both disc golf courses are well kept with excellent signage and tee pads. They even have marks for the red tees which most courses ignore. There isn't much litter around either, which is either a testament to the park staff or a sign of how underutilized this park is. Either way, be sure to pack an extra layer of clothing in the car. We visited and the air temp a few blocks away from the park was 80 degrees. But at the park itself it was only 50. The breeze off of Lake Ontario can be very chilly! read more

Best State park around! Sites A,B,C DON'T ALLOW PETS. If you want to have a water view in the D loop I would suggest D15,D16,D18. If those aren't available D11&D12 also have lake views! In the E loop E38,E39,E40&E41 have a lake view but from a long distance. Then in the F loop there are only 2 sites that have a little lake view and that would be sites F38&F40. This is the best state park! There is a park area with a playground and with the lake! Right across the street from the E loop is a little walk to get right on the water. The camp store is nice! It has anything you could need for camping. read more

Lakeside Beach State Park was our destination for our inaugural camp-out ever with our new-to-us '97 pop-up and '99 conversion van! We were there for Mother's Day weekend this year. We picked Lakeside Beach because of the scenic waterfront location and proximity to home for our first trip (an hour'ish away for us). We were on site C-20, a roomy level electric site with a gravel pad. The campground is divided into loops, and C-loop is pet-free. Our site was spacious and level. The C-loop was very quiet, only a few campers on that early-in-the-season weekend. More people were filled in on the D- and E-loops, which are pet-friendly. The loop roads are flat and paved. The bathrooms on C-loop were your basic camping set-up. Not updated, nothing special, but clean and functional. We were there on a quiet weekend, so I'm not sure how the cleanliness holds up when it is busier in the summer. The showers were small, but hot and provided enough privacy. The camp store was cute and well-stocked. Prices seemed what you'd expect from a camp store; hiked up to varying degrees for the captive audience. But it's still nice to know you have an option to grab something at the park if you forgot it. The campground is up on a bluff overlook above Lake Ontario. Loop A- and part of loop D- have lave-view sites. But we liked the coverage of trees on our C-loop site to help buffer some of the wind off the lake. You can access the lake down a hilly pathway. The lakefront is limited, and there is no swimming here. We cast a few lines, no such luck with catching anything shoreline fishing on the spring day we were there. Overall, we had a great time camping at Lakeside Beach State Park. It was basic, not a lot of amenities, which is why I give it a good, average review compared to other state park camping. For early- or late-season camping, we'll return someday. For summer camping, the lack of swimming and trails wouldn't work for us. We made some great memories there for our first-ever camping trip though, so it will always have that warm-fuzzy place in our hearts. read more

We love, love, loved our camping stay at Lakeside Beach State Park. It doesn't hurt that we came at the most beautiful time of the year with the leaves changing colors, but we were blown away by the park and the surrounding area. Our campsite was perfect! It was level and generously spaced. Located right on the water, it offered incredible views of both sunrise and sunset. We were also grateful for the trees that protected us from any wind off of the water. The sites are furnished with a picnic table and fire ring. And though we were just tent camping, our site offered hookups. We were a close walk to the bathrooms, which were adequate and moderately clean. In addition to garbage dumpsters, the campgrounds offers recycling which was a happy surprise. We were only here for an overnight stay, but it certainly was a highlight of our trip and wish we would have been here for another night. The sites are roomy, but certainly not private from your neighbors. The local area is really pretty in the fall. It is surrounded with apple orchards and there is a gas station within a half a mile of the park. read more

My fiance, dogs, friends, and I camped here for a long weekend recently. In the park there are only four loops that dogs are allowed, D-G. The other loops, I don't believe you can even walk your dog down the loop. Once the park really filled in on Friday, it was noisey as heck. All dogs were barking and people were very loud. Children were screaming all over the place. I noticed that the water sites are so large that you could probably hide from the noise. So I would book again only for a water site. The campground beach was very nice, from what I heard; spacious and clean. Dog owners, be prepared most of the sites are rocky so cork screws are difficult to use. I wouldn't make this a yearly trip but I did enjoy it fairly. read more

We wanted to have a nice camping experience in a quieter area, and this place delivered on that. It's located kind of in the middle of nowhere, on the bluffs above Lake Ontario. It's a nice drive on the Lake Ontario Parkway, which abruptly ends here at the park. We have a dog, and only certain loops are dog friendly. We ended up in Loop D, Site 20. All the other sites on the lake had been reserved, but 20 has a nice view of the water through the trees, and it's nicely sheltered from the wind. It is mostly packed gravel, which was sort of an issue for our tent (nice, gravelly area in the vestibule which wasn't that comfy) and for putting our dog on a tie out - the gravel basically kept us from using it, because we couldn't screw it into the ground. We stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday night, which had some advantages (it was nice and quiet) and some disadvantages (the Camp Store is open from 3-8 Monday-Thurs, so we had to travel around the area to find firewood.) There is no beach access here, but your reservation stub gives you access to Hamlin Beach State Park, which has a beach, and if you want to look at the 30-mile point lighthouse, you also get access to Golden Hill State Park. There's a lot of nice paths to walk on, and mowed meadows with pretty views of the lake. There are playgrounds near each loop, and there's a fully functioning Camp Store, when it's open. The shower/bathrooms are kinda old and could use an upgrade. They're perfectly functional, but the disabled one looked like it was in poor repair, and the stalls don't lock that well. I wasn't particularly worried about anyone running off with my stuff, but there's less privacy than other NYS campgrounds. Overall, this is a nice, quiet park and a good place to hang out. read more

This state park will get the job done, if you have interests in disk golf then you'll be reaching for a 4 star rating. I struggled to find decent photography (understanding the day was gloomy). Overall this state park might be better with nicer weather but from this occurrence it will be a 3 star experience. read more

Nice quiet campground. Not a lot around to do so if you are looking for peace this is the place. We were in the pet friendly loop F site 34. It was the best site, in my opinion. We had a fully shaded roomy site, close to bathrooms. The two sites directly across from us were nice, also. Other notable sites were F040, a smaller end site but has a (small) lake view for those gorgeous Lake Ontario sunsets. Friendly staff, and bathrooms cleaned regularly. Water fill up stations about every 40 ft. Camp store had a lot of essentials but closes at noon on Sundays! Take the 5 minute trip down the road to Brown Berry patch for some treats! 3 dump station area so no waiting. Cleared out on Sunday and were one of only 3 campers left in the loop! Nice playgrounds for kids, laundry also on site. read more

This is our 2nd time camping here in two years, and will be camping again here in a few weeks. Last year, we were new to rv'ing and had a great spot in the D loop. All the sites were clean and in good condition. This year we're in on the F loop. Still very nice but we are directly behind the restrooms and when it rained last night, the sites by us all have the stench of sewage as the ground is very well drained. I recommend staying away from sites F17 & F18. We aren't letting that aromatic inconvenience ruin our time though as there is lots to do. Still one of our favorite state parks. read more

What a beautiful, clean and relaxing place to camp. The view of the lake is spectacular! My site was more wooded, and was not by the water. The different loops are separated for pets/non-pets to keep everyone happy. A few nice playgrounds and spaces scattered throughout, a little camp store, and a clean pump out area for rv's. The staff is helpful and friendly! I did take away one star, because there is no swimming. (You can swim at Hamlin Beach with your camping pass, but it is a VERY bumpy 15 minute ride!) A beautiful, relaxing and serene state park with epic views of Lake Ontario. There are a few primo sites with direct lake views and others are a mix of shaded/woodsy and others are almost completely in the sun. Friendly staff, cute little camp store (that does sell firewood @ $6/healthy sized bundle!) and clean restroom facilities. We'll be back! read more
