TLDR: Was visiting my daughter, we decided to do a little road trip to some hill cntry towns. I thought we would do a bbq sandwich tour/comparison. I'd earmarked Old 300 as the place in Blanco, to go up against the others. We arrived on a Monday about 1:20p. After lunch hour, and the place was packed. (that's an indicator right there. One of the slowest days for restaurants during the week, and not at peak meal time.) The line went quick. They have what's listed as a "BBQ Sandwich" - it's a blend of chopped brisket and chopped pulled pork (not in long, stringy strands) together. We were going to hit other towns & sandwiches, so for the two of us we just ordered one sandwich and a side of potato salad. We got it to-go. Sat at an empty table. Got ourselves fixins - some doctored up onions (sliced, seems like they sauté them a little in butter and then top w fresh cracked black pepper), pickles, and both their Sweet and their Spicy sauces. They brought it out quickly, less than 5 min. We opted to just eat it there instead of take it to the next town. We topped with pickles, onions, and the Sweet sauce. Oh my freakin' sweet Lord! In this small Texas town with an unassuming spot a block and a half off the main road going through town, easily one of the top 5 bbq sandwiches of all time - no joke! To break it down, we tasted all items individually. The onions are delectable - softened from the sauté, good moisture from the butter, delicious. The Sweet sauce is crazy good. A fantastic balance of sweet, tang, & slight bite. I've never said this before but it's true - told my daughter, "I could just sit here and dip these pickles in this sauce for the next 30 minutes and be completely satisfied." The sauce, yes, is that good. Daughter is not a heat/spice lover, but she did try the Spicy sauce and we both thought it was definitely tame as far as heat goes. We both thought the Spicy sauce was okay. The Sweet sauce, though, stellar! We were overwhelmed by how good it all was. When we got to the car, I said, "All the ingredients together was like a symphony." Next time I visit her, am absolutely gonna suggest another drive out to Blanco specifically, to try some other items on the menu. But I can say this, for the BBQ Sandwich, pickles, doctored onions, and Sweet sauce alone, Old 300 is worth a generous drive and you will 100 percent be happy as a lark. Nice people and very flexible on ordering...they don't technically have 2 or 3 meat meals but they accommodated. Wife got the lunch special and it was a massive sandwich with a side and drink...I got brisket, turkey, and jalapeño sausage...all outstanding. I always benchmark a Q joint by the brisket and this place could stand toe to toe with anyone in the Texas top-10. Nice beer selection, clean, fun atmosphere, and not overpriced. Had a business meeting here and got a sampler plate to go, chicken, brisket, turkey with 3 sides ( corn , coleslaw, potato salad) with two large drinks =$65 I personally didn't like the turkey as it was more like turkey bologna that was smoked ( maybe that's what it's supposed to be? We arrived around 12 on a Monday and it looked busy as all the parking spot were full. We had to park a block away on the street. When we walked in, there was no line, multiple tables still free and lot of people were leaving. Guess we missed the lunch rush. We looked at the menu and there was a lot to choose from. The Wagyu brisket was already sold out...wondering if that is that is their prize meat. Guess I'll have to come back and try it one day. The drinks are can soda, tea, water or lemonade (sold out). Each member of our family got the Lunch special: meat sandwich, one side and a drink for $15. My husband got the pork sandwich and the seasoning on the outside was salty, but I'm sure it blends well when you take a bite with lots of meat from the middle. I got the brisket sandwich and it was meaty and tender. The bbq sauces were spicy or original. To me the regular tasted better. The spicy was a bit watery and didnt feel as spicy as I thought it would be. Our sides were the mac & cheese and cream corn. The mac was ok but I could taste the pasta more than the cheese. I felt it either needed to be more saucier or needed more cheese and it would have been perfect. The cream corn was amazing. It had a lot of sauce, pepper and flavor. My youngest got french fries. These were the best french fries I have had in a long time. They were hot, crunchy on the outside with soft potato on the inside. They were fat cut too. The dining area had a lot of signs and Texas decor. On the table was a sign to go dino hunting. There is a dinisaur hidden and if you find it, you get a free dessert. We didnt find it of course. Visiting family in Central Texas, everyone raved about Old 300 BBQ, so I had to check it out! You order at the front counter, then can take a look around. The place has cool pictures and decorations, definitely old-school Texas BBQ vibes. I ordered two dino beef ribs and some wagyu brisket to take home. The dino ribs were amazing - fantastic bark and tender meat. The brisket was good, but not quite as good as the ribs. I've had a lot of BBQ in Central Texas, and this was comparable, but could have used a little more salt and pepper for my preference. Overall, good BBQ at Old 300! read more

Pretty disappointed with this place. I was looking forward to trying it. Service was terrible from the start. The lady at the front counter seemed like she would rather be anywhere else than dealing with people. You could tell it was a spot for "locals" and people passing through got the step child treatment. Someone in my party ordered a chopped brisket sandwich and we were told there was a $1 fee for chopping the brisket. I have never heard of anything so outlandish before. Aside from the service, the food wasn't very good either. Make sure to have a fresh drink with you to wash down all of the dry meat they serve. We used Old 300 BBQ for our wedding rehearsal dinner, and we seriously could not have been happier. They have a private event room that's separate from the main restaurant, and it was exactly the vibe we were going for--rustic, warm, and inviting. From the moment we started planning, Shelly (the event coordinator) and the rest of the team were incredible. They made sure every detail was taken care of, and their hospitality and service were top-notch throughout the night. Everything turned out beautiful, and the whole experience felt effortless thanks to them. And the food is absolutely amazing!! We were able to offer our guests four types of meat, four sides, and three dessert options, and everyone raved about how delicious it all was. I highly recommend the banana pudding! We visited this nice restaurant in the Summer and I never posted it. Our friends and taken us to a distillery nearby and we went for dinner. It happened to be right after Shelly Duvall passed. They say she used to visit often there as it was her home town. The bbq was unbelievably good!! Not really hard to guess as it has been around forever. I would say if you are in the Blanco area, please do yourself a favor, don't miss supporting this friendly spot and don't miss your opportunity to eat this great food. After scrolling through dozens and dozens of reviews, it became apparent that this place is doing something right despite just three poor reviews that can be dismissed. I have to admit this place does have a country charm about it, and I was surprised there was only about a dozen tables inside and about the same outside. As soon as you enter, the order counter is right in front of you along with an iced down beer table with soft drinks, water, and beers. They do have a happy hour and daily specials. Once you place the order with a credit card , they'll flip the tip screen over with the tip percentages. Your receipt comes in the form of an email with the breakdown when you use your card. Whether you're dining in or get it to go, the sides come in plastic containers, including the blackberry cobbler which was smashed into a container beyond recognition. Unfortunately, the side of pinto beans were utterly flavorless and lifeless with nothing like brisket or peppers to add some life to them, avoid this item. The coleslaw was the typical mediocre offering I've had numerous times before, not bad, just tired of it. We got the brisket sandwich and it basically comes on a glorified toasted hotdog bun. As I started digging in to a sampling of some of their meats, I found the waygu brisket (which you pay extra for) to be dry with not much of a smoke ring and 20% fat. The brisket on the sandwich was a little more moist and fared better. However, the stars of the show were the St. Louis style ribs which were perfectly smoked, moist and large (no baby backs here). The smoked turkey breast is also something else we'd recommend because it was tender and juicy with just the right amount of smoke. Their sausage did have some decent spiciness and it was meaty, but a little on the dry side. Some things were really good, but not everything was which means no five stars from me, but a good acceptable 3 1/2 stars. If I could do it all over again, I'd purchase a rack of the ribs for $60 and a half pound of turkey which would have me slapping down 5 stars. A few photos included for more insight. read more

While on travel over the Thanksgiving holiday, I was looking for somewhere to eat between San Antonio and Kingsland. It was only by happenstance that I was on Goldbelly's website, looking for side dishes to take to the in-laws, that I stumbled upon Old 300 BBQ. Since we were pretty much passing right by, we decided to make this our lunch spot. They have plentiful parking, so that is always a plus. Once inside, you order at the counter. The interior is very rustic, as you would expect a BBQ place to be. As it was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we got their special, the Wagyu Wednesday, which is wagyu for the price of angus (I think it was 1.5 lbs of brisket, figuring we could have leftovers in case nothing was open in Kingsland). The brisket was delicious, so flavorful and tender. I know we had green beans for a side, and am sure the husband got mac n cheese, and they tasted great. I love that they had the sauces and all the condiments readily available so you could get what you needed. Overall a great experience and had it not been for them using Goldbelly to ship their food nationwide, I literally would have never known about this place. Great job! read more

Inside is air conditioned which is nice in the Texas summer heat. So the process is go inside read the menu, they do NOT have plates so you order everything individually. Smoked turkey sandwich with a side of potato salad and the Willie Nelson with a side of Mac and cheese. The turkey sandwich says you get half a pound of meat. It looks like more. The Willie has sliced brisket, sausage and pork loin. It's a monster sandwich. All the meats are great. Lean, but moist. The bread is a soft, delicious hoagie. The potato salad tends towards mustard and contains deviled egg. The Mac is like your grandma made, so good. Go there and spend the money when in Blanco. read more

Old 300 can do nothing wrong in my eyes. Everything I have ever ordered from them has been juicy, flavorful, and if you did need anything at all, it was just to dump it and some barbecue sauce. They have plenty of seating areas inside and out and can definitely accommodate larger groups. We have ordered almost every meat they have, and it is always cooked to perfection with a great fat content, perfect seasoning, excellent smoke ring, and perfectly peppered. This last time we ate there somehow our order never made it to the back and to compensate us for the wait we got free dessert! I got the smoked cheesecake with blackberry sauce! So delicious! A long drive for us but had been some great bbq and was worth the trip. We had not been in 3 months and drove over today for lunch. What happened? The smoked turkey used to be best I ever had but not today, tasted and looked white and out of the oven taste, on a plain hamburger bun. The potato salad was good and sweet tea is great. Soft drinks are now $3 a can, no more fountain drinks. Most bbq places have jalapeños with condiments but not this one. The lunch was $14.99 for 1/4 lb turkey sandwich, tea and side. The special sandwiches seemed to be about DOUBLE in price now, think the el jefe was $34.99 for JUST the sandwich. Over $50 for lunch for 2 will no longer be worth our drive. We were kind of hot after walking around, so chose to eat inside, instead of the front patio area.
