When you walk into the Old 5th, you immediately get a sense of the history, the character, and the charm of the place. Wood bar, wood floors, pool table in the back, low lighting, music playing on the new fangled juke box, local regulars peppered around the bar and tables, straightforward bar drinks, and a one woman show in the bartender/owner who keeps everybody pacified efficiently and courteously. You can throw in some chip and nut snacks or some solid daily specials such as Taco Tuesday, and there's no need to leave. People are throwing around the term dive bar like confetti. If you have an affinity for dive bars, then yes, this is a good one. If you turn up your nose at dive bar, then consider the Old 5th not a dive bar, but an institution, a historical landmark, a snapshot of a little piece of Seattle that time forgot and totally worth the visit.

Do you like your beer whiff of mildew and a side of homophobia? If so, then this is your bar. After just two watered-down beers the bartender decided that this Queen had had enough, so She cut me off and I sat there and watched straight couples do coke on the booth tables while drinking tequila on the rocks. The bartender could not have been less subtle that she didn't appreciate me there, so I asked for the bill, tipped her 15% and left. I've lived 2 blocks away from this place for 18 years and I'm proud to say there is a reason why I have only been here a handful of times. They are homophobes. This place sucks. Never come here. Hopefully this will be a condo tower soon.

So happy they are able to be open. They have some heated outdoor seating and safety measures (plexiglass etc) set up inside. Love this bar!

Fantastic people, good food, and a strong selection of beer and spirits. What more could you want from a bar?

Very good, ample food choices on app menu. Nice to see they invested into adult-sized silverware and quality serving dishes. And yes, yum pickled onions! Going for pulled pork w fries, she's getting the house burger. Can't wait to try the banana bread pudding! Quality ingredients, lightly seasoned, fresh cut fries. The pulled pork was a little tired. And worse they served it warm. I would order it again though. So somebody should have put the fries in sooner. Happened to be sitting across from the open kitchen where the food was going out and hats off to their tempura batter fish and chips! The portions and presentation we're well above average they were really attractive looking plates. The bartender absolutely nailed my Spanish coffee and even gave me tequila choice! It was perfect. It took a little while on the bread pudding so I ordered another Spanish coffee, now she's driving. The banana bread pudding was exceptionally good in every way! Saw some big, juicy sliders going by, she wanted to order them next time and I agreed. Overall, I would definitely go back again. And I'm not even a sports fan unfortunately. The friendly, polite atmosphere, the well deserved excellent rating, and got to love that wall behind the very well appointed bar!

Also seemed odd as they had more staff on earlier, but they were kinda just hanging out. Had no idea who was looking after our table. Again, not terrible just an odd method. Pretty expensive for what it is, and the food we got was not worth it really. Have been to the old one and that was WAY better. Sorry won't be going back or recommending to others.

We walked in as a party of 2 on a Thursday around 9pm and it was not too busy - probably half the bar was occupied. We opted to sit at one end of the bar because the bar seats are where the vibes are at. The place is decorated in a fairly elegant and old school manner, so you are somewhat transported away from the outside reality. We got the Tobe's Thique Mint and Garden Party. I loved the creaminess and cinnamon afternotes of Tobe's Thique Mint, and it also looks somewhat pretty. It is quite a heavy drink, so one was enough to fill me up. The Garden Party was a bit of a miss since as much as I tasted the orange and grapefruit, it was a very light drink and tasted a little watered down. The biggest plus is that the drinks are fairly affordable compared to the greater Seattle area, priced at $14. I liked how their menu says 14 for $14, as they have just 14 cocktails to choose from and the drinks seem to rotate seasonally. For us, we went just in time to still have the spring menu, but they will change to the summer menu on June 20.

They sell drinks, they have tvs, outdoor ping pong, indoor pool tables. Bartenders were polite and served me with no issue. So, plus: dependable spot that serves alcohol. There's also a smoking area on the outside patio for those who do that. I see people calling this a dive. Maybe because this part of Seattle is becoming gentrified, Teddys is seen as a dive, but no, I don't' think its a dive at all. I think its an aging sports bar in a neighborhood that has high rise condos being propped up left and right. In some respects, that might be part of its charm. It's a throwback to what normal neighborhood sports bars were like in Seattle. But it's aging, and I don't think the employees are keeping things polished like they once did. That doesn't mean its a dive though. My times in Seattle visiting this bar were in August. Maybe their is a busier time of year, but I found the bar to be really sleepy and not much going on. I somewhat judge a bar on the kind of people I meet and talk to, but I really never found like minded folks or interesting topics here. I think this is a fine bar for grabbing a drink, especially if you don't feel like 'going out', but I wouldn't go out of my way to spend an evening here. Your experience is what you make it: bring the right crowd and you could have the time of your life. I wouldn't show up expecting the right crowd to already be there though. Signed, the unnamed patron PS, I'll be stopping in again soon to see if anything is different, besides myself, since the last time I was there.

No warning, no conversation, nothing during this visit to prompt it. I had asked the bartender whether a staff member still worked there because my wife hadn't wanted to return after the previous visit. That's the extent of any provocation. I updated this review to address the owner's response -- that's not a story changing, that's a reply. The situation at the neighboring bar was this same Westy manager threatening to fight me and making false accusations that my wife had assaulted her in front of other patrons. The bartender there told her to sit down -- closing out the single unknown patron to defuse a situation caused by a known regular is just crowd management, not a verdict on my behavior. Notably, the owner claims they can't speak to events at the neighboring bar -- yet somehow knows I was cashed out there. The bartender at the Westy that night was genuinely fine. The management style is the problem.
