Ended up here on a random weekday night to grab drinks and food before a game. And we were extremely disappointed.. like laughable disappointment. The bar and restrooms are clean. Small parking lot in behind the building and there's a pool table in the back corner of the bar. It's a nice local bar but you also feel that "see a new face, give a stink face" service that I'm noticing Seattle local bars/restaurants do a lot. The food is mediocre to disgusting. It is made by the bartender (which we wish we knew beforehand). Just from that knowledge, you already picture a certain quality of food. It was actually worst than we thought it'd be. We ordered drinks, Mac n cheese, hot dog & chips, and their special homemade recipe of Swedish meatballs. We were excited to taste all of it and were super hungry. Skip the meatballs, it tasted worst than Walmart brand meatballs. It had an obvious cardboard and processed texture and taste. They tried to mask it with mash potatoes but the quality of the mash potatoes couldn't be hidden. The only thing that saves the meal throughout was the garlic bread. If you're lit, the food won't matter but you'll definitely feel it on the toilet later. The hot dog and chips came 10mins after the rest of the food came and that was kinda lame. It was the fasted thing to make but still had to wait for awhile for a simple dish. Plus it was just potato chips, not fries so what's taking so long. read more

When you walk into the Old 5th, you immediately get a sense of the history, the character, and the charm of the place. Wood bar, wood floors, pool table in the back, low lighting, music playing on the new fangled juke box, local regulars peppered around the bar and tables, straightforward bar drinks, and a one woman show in the bartender/owner who keeps everybody pacified efficiently and courteously. You can throw in some chip and nut snacks or some solid daily specials such as Taco Tuesday, and there's no need to leave. People are throwing around the term dive bar like confetti. If you have an affinity for dive bars, then yes, this is a good one. If you turn up your nose at dive bar, then consider the Old 5th not a dive bar, but an institution, a historical landmark, a snapshot of a little piece of Seattle that time forgot and totally worth the visit. read more

Do you like your beer whiff of mildew and a side of homophobia? If so, then this is your bar. After just two watered-down beers the bartender decided that this Queen had had enough, so She cut me off and I sat there and watched straight couples do coke on the booth tables while drinking tequila on the rocks. The bartender could not have been less subtle that she didn't appreciate me there, so I asked for the bill, tipped her 15% and left. I've lived 2 blocks away from this place for 18 years and I'm proud to say there is a reason why I have only been here a handful of times. They are homophobes. This place sucks. Never come here. Always have been treated with respect and courtesy ( I'm Asian ) Regular hang out for me when I need a Nom rowdy good ol fashion bar with simple food items and good friends to join. I've introduced so many friends to this place and have never had a complaint. Lots of regulars. Dog friendly. Great outdoor patio now! I enjoy this place as it's a fun bar to stop in for a beer. The staff is always nice and the customers , mostly regulars keep to their self but are friendly. They have pool in the back and you can order off their small menu ( the nachos look really good ) or next door at the Hawaiian restaurant. It's definitely a dive bar though and keep your expectations at that level. My 84 year old mom had her first beer here back in the 60s and my grandpa used to come here all the time apparently. Sometimes all the fancy over-the-top cocktails and endless lists of craft beers gets old and all you want to do is munch on some good ol' bar food, sip on a refreshing beer, and hang out with your crew. The 5th Ave Tav is perfect for that. I often come here with my wife or a friend or two, order a pitcher of beer, and shoot some pool. It's a great place to spend a few hours without having to deal with crowded bars or drunken twentysomethings (says the twentysomething). My initial review got flagged because of not enough detail about my experience at Old Fifth. Old fifth is great, the last stand for old-school Seattle. The best menu options are nachos, potpies, and hotdogs. Tuesdays is Taco night, Wednesdays is Spaghetti, and Thursdays is sloppy Joes. Tara, Skyler, and Kyle are the best and I have immense respect for them. Now back to our originally scheduled programming: I got to watch the whole thing. The three drunk Asian girls on 3/27/2021 were refused follow-up service after one of them broke a glass, behaved in a condescending way, and since then has been throwing a fit about racism on the interwebs. For some reason, as an Asian and a regular at this bar, it's my job to refute these three college girls (looks like they are from California). These gals decided to team up on yelp and lash out at a small business (during COVID) rather than just accept responsibility for appearing as drunks at 5PM on a Saturday and being cut off because one of them was slopey. To cry racism when really, you screwed up, is cringey. If you act slopey at this bar, you'll get cut off. That's what a responsible establishment does. Just because this is a dive bar, does not mean that they'll tolerate drunks or bad behavior. They could have just apologized and come back in at a later date and restarted the relationship, but instead decided to air their false grievances out on Yelp. If I could give this bar a 0 if I could. My friends and I (we are Asian) walked to this bar and sat outside. I accidentally dropped my empty glass on the table and the ice spilled over. Tara, the bartender, came over to clean up and I asked for another drink and she came and gave me water and my tab. I am appalled at the passive aggressiveness as I was completely sober. I tried this place out by a friend's recommendation and after one visit, I'm a fan! It's a small place and is a bit of a dive, but that's my style. I went on Taco Tuesday, which you can't beat 2 for a buck. There isn't anything fancy about them, but you can dress them us as much as you like at the 'taco station' next to the bar. They had other good deals, too...like $1.50 PBR tall boys after 10pm and $2 Sloppy Joe's on Thursay, which I will be checking out soon.. For a small area, it was fairly crowed and there was just one person working the bar - no servers. She did a great job keeping tabs on us and getting beer and taco refills out to us asap. And, she was friendly on top of it all, which is huge for me because I've had my share of sour service. They have a free parking lot next to the building with plenty of spots. No reason not to check this place out if you like a dive! read more

I give it four stars because the lady working the bar was working alone and still found the time to bus our table, grab more chairs and rearrange tables for my big group. I love this place! It is a great place to have a drink and take in a baseball game. The food is all carby and cheesy, which isn't a bad thing but you're probably going to go hungry if you're looking for anything healthy. That said, the taco Tuesday is ossum and really good. This is really like an extended family, a tight knit community, or classic neighborhood bar. Everyone knows everyone, or gets to know them very quickly and easily. Free pool, a juke that needs updating, but good enough. The beer selection is A-Ok seeing as they have ice old Rainier, and then theres that IPA, and Amber stuff too. This divey watering hole is truely a GEM! I some what don't even want to rave about it on here for fear it will become overcrowded with people that don't deserve to experience it's awesomeness. Taco Tuesday = delicious (and cheap!) Sloppy Joe Thursday = delicious (and cheap). Stiff drinks, excellent bartenders and the owner (Tara) is a complete sweethart. They celebrate Sea Hawks games with Tuba Touchdowns and usually someone brings in an additional, special food item to add to the regularly scheduled bar menu. This place was awesome! I was looking for a place to get tacos on a Tuesday and an article came up online about their 2 for $1.00 tacos. It wasn't what I expected, but great nonetheless! One person was working the bar but it wasn't too busy. The tacos were awesome! You can put whatever you want on them and they tasted great. These were crunchy shell tacos.
