When you walk into the Old 5th, you immediately get a sense of the history, the character, and the charm of the place. Wood bar, wood floors, pool table in the back, low lighting, music playing on the new fangled juke box, local regulars peppered around the bar and tables, straightforward bar drinks, and a one woman show in the bartender/owner who keeps everybody pacified efficiently and courteously. You can throw in some chip and nut snacks or some solid daily specials such as Taco Tuesday, and there's no need to leave. People are throwing around the term dive bar like confetti. If you have an affinity for dive bars, then yes, this is a good one. If you turn up your nose at dive bar, then consider the Old 5th not a dive bar, but an institution, a historical landmark, a snapshot of a little piece of Seattle that time forgot and totally worth the visit.

Do you like your beer whiff of mildew and a side of homophobia? If so, then this is your bar. After just two watered-down beers the bartender decided that this Queen had had enough, so She cut me off and I sat there and watched straight couples do coke on the booth tables while drinking tequila on the rocks. The bartender could not have been less subtle that she didn't appreciate me there, so I asked for the bill, tipped her 15% and left. I've lived 2 blocks away from this place for 18 years and I'm proud to say there is a reason why I have only been here a handful of times. They are homophobes. This place sucks. Never come here. Hopefully this will be a condo tower soon.

Great for large groups and also family friendly. THE INSIDE: -Lots of Seattle Kraken memorabilia on the walls, including sweaters from the Seattle Metropolitans. Upscale pub at its best. -Bathrooms are large, clean, easily accessible, and well stocked. -The seats are very heavy, wooden, and well made, all cushioned and cloth covered. I appreciate that it feels like an actual seat instead of a crappy piece of metal that a lot of sports restaurants seem to be transitioning towards. You will be comfortable. -Many tables overlooking three of the four sheets of ice. (Virginia Mason is the only sheet that the restaurant doesn't overlook.) -Full bar with bar seating available. FOOD AND DRINKS: -I've been coming here for years for Kraken watch parties or beer league games, and have never had a disappointing meal. Whether it's appetizer fries or a full entree or a simple cocktail, it's all been in a scale of good to great. -The crispy brussel sprouts are a highlight. Savory, sweet, perfectly cooked, and huge portion size - should be split between a minimum of two people. -The pricing is hiiiiigh (like everything else these days, I suppose). Expect minimum of $12 for an appetizer and $18-$45 per entree. It was far more reasonable the first year they were open and it's all gone up at least 30%. That being said, the serving sizes are big, and one entree could easily be split between two people. -The bar has hundreds of choices. Cocktails are fantastic. The Kraken Hat Trick was particularly nice for the summer weather paired with the World Cup slider trio and brussel sprouts. Easily fed two people. -The nachos are light and while not covered in any traditional cheeses, I rather enjoyed the spicy aioli with cotija on top. Everything tasted very fresh and the chips were thick, proper tortilla chips. Again, portion size is massive and great for splitting. SIDE NOTES: -There are discounts available for players (kids league and beer league). -Kids get an activity sheet, packaged crayons, and a covered cup of water with a straw. -I want to take a star off the rating just on pricing alone, because this is more casual pub than fancy restaurant, but considering all of the positive experiences I've had here with food, drinks, and service, I can't do it. -There is a Starbucks inside the facility with some food options, so I suppose if you're wanting a cheaper option for food to munch on while overlooking the ice, that's your only alternative to purchase on-site aside from generic concessions downstairs.

First there was such sticker shock at the prices of everything here. Service was good at first and then my husband asked for a refill on his ice tea, and then he asked again, and asked again still no refill. Finally a different server came and after the fourth request he finally got a refill. For almost a hundred dollars for lunch for 3 people I expect better service. On the way out then our server asked if she could get us anything. Why ask on the way out?? Not sure about coming back here again

Solid food, basic pub environment…read more I'm oscillating between 3 and 4 stars, but I think for the value (at the risk of getting a smarmy response from the establishment's social media person, I will agree with other posts that despite the award-winning homemade food and staff being paid a living wage, it did feel a little pricey for what we got). My kids and I split a 13" pepperoni pizza. It was solid. Nothing special, but nothing wrong with it either. Crust was thin, but sturdy enough to pick each piece up and eat with our hands without all the ingredients sliding off. Even splitting it between 3 people, we had 2 leftover pieces to take home. I also ordered a small Caesar salad, and it was delicious. Perfect dressing-to-salad ratio, loved how it came with brioche breadcrumbs that were simply part of the salad (as opposed to so many other places that have croutons that are giant and too hard to stick with your fork so you're left eating the salad and picking up the croutons separately - often with your fingers). While this review landed on 3 stars, looking over the wide variety on the menu, I can absolutely see how others have given it 4-5 stars. There were lots of options on the menu that looked fantastic - from starters to beer bread sandwiches and pie folds. The menu also had a number of desserts that looked quite inventive, and dessert is my favorite meal of the day. I just didn't have the wisdom to choose any of those options on this visit. Definitely a place worth coming back to and seeing if those other things are as good as the menu makes them sound. In sum, it's a solid, family-friendly place. Maybe try something more creative than I did.

They sell drinks, they have tvs, outdoor ping pong, indoor pool tables. Bartenders were polite and served me with no issue. So, plus: dependable spot that serves alcohol. There's also a smoking area on the outside patio for those who do that. I see people calling this a dive. Maybe because this part of Seattle is becoming gentrified, Teddys is seen as a dive, but no, I don't' think its a dive at all. I think its an aging sports bar in a neighborhood that has high rise condos being propped up left and right. In some respects, that might be part of its charm. It's a throwback to what normal neighborhood sports bars were like in Seattle. But it's aging, and I don't think the employees are keeping things polished like they once did. That doesn't mean its a dive though. My times in Seattle visiting this bar were in August. Maybe their is a busier time of year, but I found the bar to be really sleepy and not much going on. I somewhat judge a bar on the kind of people I meet and talk to, but I really never found like minded folks or interesting topics here. I think this is a fine bar for grabbing a drink, especially if you don't feel like 'going out', but I wouldn't go out of my way to spend an evening here. Your experience is what you make it: bring the right crowd and you could have the time of your life. I wouldn't show up expecting the right crowd to already be there though. Signed, the unnamed patron PS, I'll be stopping in again soon to see if anything is different, besides myself, since the last time I was there.

Ambiance - loud but understandable. Snagged seats at the bar when a nice gentleman moved so we could have two seats. Place started to fill up an hour before the game. Bartender was a bit terse since she was working by herself and at first I gave her benefit of the doubt. However, when we asked to have the channel changed from the Knicks parade for the TV in front of us, got rude NO...who wants to watch a RERUN of the parade that happened June 18th!! I'm fairly certain folks were there to watch World Cup. It would have been understandable if they had the Mariners game on. What the hell were they thinking? Another bartender (much nicer than the other bartender) who finally came to help said the managers preset the channels the night before and they can't changes it- a dumb decision I mean, couldn't you put it somewhere else more obscure? It's pretty obvious that folks are here to watch the World Cup. This was my first time at this place and I'm already thinking I'm not coming back anytime soon. They were obviously understaffed which is management's fault as well as the TV on the Knicks old parades. Busy bartender (first one-female with Seahawks JSN shirt) but didn't have to be quite so rude; 2nd bartender (guy in green shirt) busy too but so much friendlier. UPDATE: magically the channel with the Knicks parade was suddenly changed to World Cup 20 minutes into the game. Was management in the house?
