Came here to watch the World Cup. Bartender Greek Shirt - 5 stars Bartender with Seahawks shirt - 2.5 stars Management - 1 star for being stupid about the purest channel with a rerun of the Knicks game and not having enough staff. Ambiance - loud but understandable. Snagged seats at the bar when a nice gentleman moved so we could have two seats. Place started to fill up an hour before the game. Bartender was a bit terse since she was working by herself and at first I gave her benefit of the doubt. However, when we asked to have the channel changed from the Knicks parade for the TV in front of us, got rude NO...who wants to watch a RERUN of the parade that happened June 18th!! I'm fairly certain folks were there to watch World Cup. It would have been understandable if they had the Mariners game on. What the hell were they thinking? Another bartender (much nicer than the other bartender) who finally came to help said the managers preset the channels the night before and they can't changes it- a dumb decision I mean, couldn't you put it somewhere else more obscure? It's pretty obvious that folks are here to watch the World Cup. This was my first time at this place and I'm already thinking I'm not coming back anytime soon. They were obviously understaffed which is management's fault as well as the TV on the Knicks old parades. Busy bartender (first one-female with Seahawks JSN shirt) but didn't have to be quite so rude; 2nd bartender (guy in green shirt) busy too but so much friendlier. Came in alone, had a meal and two drinks without any issue. Toward the end of my meal, a manager approached me, said "you know what you did," and had me close out -- referencing a separate incident involving my wife from last year. No warning, no conversation, nothing during this visit to prompt it. I had asked the bartender whether a staff member still worked there because my wife hadn't wanted to return after the previous visit. That's the extent of any provocation. I updated this review to address the owner's response -- that's not a story changing, that's a reply. The situation at the neighboring bar was this same Westy manager threatening to fight me and making false accusations that my wife had assaulted her in front of other patrons. The bartender there told her to sit down -- closing out the single unknown patron to defuse a situation caused by a known regular is just crowd management, not a verdict on my behavior. Notably, the owner claims they can't speak to events at the neighboring bar -- yet somehow knows I was cashed out there. The bartender at the Westy that night was genuinely fine. First of all, these guys WERE are a Cleveland Browns backer bar, but this place is way better than the ole Browns. (Ozzie's is the new backers bar) Nothing fancy in here, just a great neighborhood bar with a number of TVs and really good food. I ordered the fried chicken salad and I was surprised for being in a bar it was awesome. Great selection of beer and good wine and spirits selection as well. Elite sports bar food up in here. It took me forever to decide what to get, but I eventually landed on the what da cluck sammie. The fried green tomato and pimento cheese gives it a fantastic textural contrast that you can't get anywhere else inside a venue that serves Rainier. There's vibes here are SO chill that I didn't even notice my friend who I was supposed to be meeting here was already sitting at the bar while I was simultaneously waiting for him in a booth. We both just got lost in the sauce. There are tons of TVs which makes it a great place to watch whatever game(s) might be on that day. An extensive tap list of local brews will also make you rack your brain on which path to take, but the waitstaff is nice enough to help you out. We ordered a bunch of drinks and apps, and everything was crispy-fried to perfection with some tasty dips on the side. The waffle fries ($8.5), chicken tenders ($13.50) and pretzel bites ($10) were solid. The birria taquitos ($14) weren't my fave, but they had a nice crunch and a fun cumin flavor. Came here on football Sunday and was able to seat ourselves. We ordered through the QR code which personally I like, especially when going out with friends this makes it easier to pay your own tab. I got the hot honey chicken sandwich and it was yummy. Maybe 7.5/10 not the best one I've had but still good! The tater tots were a 10/10 though, had the perfect crisp. I want to love this place, I've convinced friends to come back after they've had negative experiences with either quality of food or poor/mediocre service to support neighborhood businesses. Last night a group of us friends with our young adults home from college decided to watch the FIFA games, grab dinner and drinks. Our server was rude, angry and dismissive all night. The food came out quickly and was fine, but average at best. There were available open tables all night, so while the place was humming, it wasn't packed or over busy in the least. The server created such an unwelcoming environment we won't be back - representing four families that live within a 15 minute range of the place. I've been going to The Westy for years, and while it's always been a pretty average neighborhood spot -- nothing special, nothing elevated -- I've kept coming back because it was convenient and consistent. However, my most recent visit completely changed my impression. The bartender was unexpectedly rude for no reason at all. In a time when restaurant competition is so tight, I can't understand why anyone would treat customers that way. It really left a bad taste in my mouth, and I won't be returning. There's nothing about this place that stands out above any other average bar or restaurant in the area, and now, unfortunately, poor service has made it even less appealing. After having moved to the area and living here for a bit I've done the rounds a couple times trying to find my neighborhood watering hole. I've finally landed on The Westy as my preferred place to go. It's super convenient and only a block away from the Roosevelt light rail station. They have a bunch of TVs all around the bar which make it easy to catch any sports games. There are plenty of tables as well as some outdoor standing space. There's even more space in the back with some arcade games that could be great for private events. They have happy hour which includes $1 off wells and also the $7 guilty pleasure that is a beer and a well shot. I tend to order the tater tots here because they're super crispy and the portions are huge. The bartenders and staff are all nice, especially Mar who is super friendly and always makes sure I'm taken care for. I always have a good experience when I come here and this will continue to be my preferred bar in the neighborhood. read more

We came to Westy pretty late on a weekday and were delighted that they could seat us (a party greater than 10) in the back! Our food was delicious and service was great. My friend and I shared a cocktail and an order of Fish and Chips. The fish was wonderful, super crispy and very flavorful. I was happy that the default fries were waffle fries, my favorite! Went for Game 7 of the ALCS . Food and drinks were good but the behavior of a certain staff member turned me off from ever coming back here. The young woman behind the bar was very kind, but the Middle Aged bald man working the floor was extremely rude and raised his voice at my friends, and many other patrons several times over the course of a couple hours, forcing people to move out of their seats and saying things under his breath. ORIGINAL CONTEXT BEFORE OWNER RESPONSE- I don't see what's so great about this place. The food is equally as terrible as the staff operating it. I guess if you have a set of tvs and an operable bar, that qualifies you to keep a business license? not my cup of tea on many fronts. Was in the area celebrating a bday with some friends and they decided to end up here. The bar service was rude. The kitchen closed early or wasn't able to make the items we ordered. We asked several times to switch to the Oregon game to which our request was ignored. What's the point of having a bar if you aren't capable of listening to your patrons??? *UPDATE* The fact that the owner takes the time to write and disparage the negative feedback he gets from patrons shows who *HE* is as not just a person but a bar owner too. This man has been known to cut corners, treat staff like crap and now is working his way to his customers too. Word of advice, gaslighting someone and telling them their experience never happened because you "checked the security footage" doesn't work while you're simultaneously backpedaling with what may have happened and excusing the situation as an act of " consumer entitlement". So EXCUSE TF outta me for crossing my fingers that when an important game is on, THE SOLE REASON THIS ESTABLISHMENTS EVEN OPEN FOR, that I'd actually request to see the game on the TV closest to me WITH SOUND. We as customers are expected to pay astronomically high pricing for mediocre service and terrible quality of food PLUS TIP on top of that???? Lol who is the entitled now? Just do your job. Best happy hour/late night menu of all time. I love coming here after a day of working and chomping on a delicious $5 burger and $5 curly fries.. with the chipotle aioli too...yum! Edit: I'm adding some additional details to help explain my rating in response to the restaurant, as my review wasn't based solely on the delivery aspects (although they were a factor). To be Frank, this isn't 4 or 5 star food. It's 3 star food, and the delivery/freshness factor would have made it a 2, but I didn't want to penalize the restaurant for a third party delivery situation. I do think it's important for people to be able to consider if they want to order delivery from this place or not, as it impacts the quality of the food that we end up with. I suppose the restaurant could use this feedback to make decisions about what foods they would like to keep including on their menus with third party delivery services. I ordered food on UberEats from here - it was okay. The burger was very dry and didn't have much flavor, but the lettuce and tomatoes and onions were fresh. About halfway through, I chose not to finish the meat part of the burger because it had no flavor and was dried out. The tots were soggy which I knew might happen to an extent since it was being delivered, but there was zero crispness left, and that was a bummer. The tots also were nothing special - they didn't taste like they were seasoned with anything. I've had tots from places that will double fry them or at least fry them longer since they're going to be traveling- to the point where they are still a little crispy hours later. I don't know how they do it but I know it's possible. That was not the case here. The street corn wasn't hot any longer, and they put it in a metal tin so I had to take it out to reheat it (not willing to wait for a half hour in the oven). It was also a small portion size for the price, and needed some freshness. I won't get delivery from here again, but I'd give it a shot if I was looking for food and I was in the area to see if it's better. read more

Change is inevitable, and all good things must come to an end. This is not a go-to for us anymore. It's a bar that closes at midnight, so no longer an option for late night. One thing that has been the same as that. It's still challenging to park near the place because of being on Roosevelt and the bike lane and no other options. The reason I would feel the need to park closer to the place is because the area is sketchier than it used to be as noticed by the window or door covered with plywood apparently from being bashed in. Also didn't care for the condescending attitude from the bartender. My friend asked about martinis because they do have a cocktail list, and she was trying to remember the name of the one. She's always ordered there. His reply was a smart-ass response to look behind him they have a full bar. The place was busy, and we were there an hour before close, and he honestly seemed to put out to make anything other than a straightforward whiskey neat or a beer. If we wanted that we could go to many of the new self-service bars where we pour our own. I don't believe they employ bartenders at all. read more

Ended up here because it was the only place in the area open past 9pm. There were too many vegetarian options, but I ordered the Black Bean Burger and was satisfied. I believe my partner ordered the Westy Burger. My fries were over cooked, very crunch and not soft on the inside at all. We also ordered a cocktail to share, which was pretty good. Other than the fries, I was pretty satisfied with the meal. Our server was quite friendly and I enjoyed talking to him. Made the experience more enjoyable and welcoming! My friends... Let me tell you the tale of how The Westy traumatized my 3 month old son. We had a leftover UberEats gift card from when he was born, so we figured we'd use it and try some takeout from The Westy. We got the jerk chicken sandwich, the chicken wings, and the Thai lettuce cups. The sandwich and the wings were delicious, but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to eat the lettuce wraps until the next day. That, my friends, is where our story takes a turn for the tragic. We ate the lettuce wraps at around 11am as an early lunch. We were having a chill Thursday afternoon with the kiddo when, in unison, both of us started feeling rumbling in our bellies. Uh oh.... I run to the bathroom first. My wife knocks on the door a few minutes later and says, "How long do you think it'll be in there? I'm not feeling so great either." "It's going to be a while" Well her stomach rumbling turned quickly into an emergency. This woman, God bless her soul, had to take our child, and his little baby chair into the other bathroom with her. So now we're both pooping. And she's got the baby in the bathroom with her. I already knew this wasn't going to end well, but within a few minutes I can hear my son screaming in sheer terror. Little dude is just wailing inconsolably. This goes on for a few minutes until I end up running out of my bathroom mid-diarrhea to rescue him and take him outside to get some fresh air. Made a last minute decision to meet up with friends at The Westy and it worked out great! There was good seating, a very casual yet friendly ambiance and our server was excellent. We sampled a few appetizers (tots, wings, corn dip) which were all very good. EXCELLENT beer selection and some fun cocktail choices. The only part I didn't love was the glass my wine was served in. I will admit, I am a drinking vessel snob (not meaning I need something fancy but it does need to be the right vessel for the drink) - and wine came in a mason jar and my husband's cider came in a snifter. Woohoo! A new awesome restaurant in our area. Thank God the Roosevelt Ale House hasn't reopened or we might not have found this gem. Went here about a week ago after seeing a matinee movie near Northgate. Thank God for Yelp for helping us find it. Parking is a bit of a challenge here. Street parking out front limited depending on time of day. Parking lot in back doesn't seem to offer any spots for the restaurant. We parked one street back in front of a house. I feel sorry for homeowners in this area. Very friendly server. Thought he could have even been a manager or owner. Very helpful and energetic. We chose to split a banh mi sandwich with tots and order of Wings. Everything perfectly delicious! Was initially afraid of their Pterodactyl hot sauce because of the name but it is fabulous! I'm not sure why it took me so long to finally check out The Westy, but boy am I glad I did! My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday for brunch during the Seahawks game, and it was about half full an hour before kickoff. It quickly turned into a full house about half an hour before the game, so I definitely recommend getting there early for games. It's a perfect sports bar setup, with TVs in basically every direction. I had the Westy burger with waffle fries, and the fries truly blew me away. They were PERFECT in every way, and portions were extremely generous. The burger was fine, but I personally thought the patty was too thick (and I'm truly just being picky here). Boyfriend's French Toast & Bacon was great, and we loved the mimosa pitcher! Our server was super attentive and checked in with us multiple times throughout our visit. I'm dying to come back and take advantage of the Happy Hour and try some of their wings! read more

The food is average at best. Came to several events here. Kraken, World Cup, Seahawks. The attraction here is they allow kids. However, they don't make it easy for you to navigate and "stay" in the family designated zones. Lastly, the last straw was their minimum 5-person rule for their family area. We went back there with a family of 4 (two boys that can probably eat a 6 table lol) and were denied a spot. Not family friendly. Food is below average even for a sports bar. read more

The happy hour here is a great value. The venue is clean and welcoming. The service was personable and efficient for a bar setting. The black bean burger was a great entree that was full of flavor and had a good amount of fresh veggie toppings. The drinks were well made and full of flavor.
