    Spicy Salmon Bowl
    Matt J.

Old Abe immediately jumped to being my favorite restaurant in Rochester. The faux meats are exceptional (without being heavy-handed about replicating meat) and the sauces are flavorful but light. My only gripe would be a desire for a higher ratio of salmon to other ingredients in the bowl. Also I think they should prepare the spinach in some way, even just a light sauté to make it mix better. But overall it's an excellent meal and I wish I could bring it with me to San Francisco. Additionally, the staff is extremely nice and the atmosphere is bright and airy. Strong recommend!

Lovely little shop. Surprisingly larger interior than I was expecting and has patio space for better weather. The staff are very helpful. The menu has plenty of options for coffee, drinks, donuts and entrees. I tried the Korean BBQ bowl since everyone seemed to recommend it. I got a to-go box. Everything was biodegradable packaging. The bowl was hefty and tasty. I do wish there was more sauce. The bowl was a bit more dry. I'm excited to come back to try the coffee, smoothies and donuts!

Took a beer-centric trip to Rochester and finally stopped by Old Abe since they're one of the better vegan/vegetarian places I've ever had. Cute cafe in an old house with counter service and small tables throughout the main floor and upstairs. Very hip, but welcoming ambiance. They make most of their stuff in house, including an awesomely rotational lineup of vegan donuts. Got the Banh Mi with their "pork" and it was probably tied for top vegan "meat" sandwich I've ever had. Soft, flavorful baguette that has a nice crunch to the exterior. The aioli was excellent and brightened up the rest of it. The star was the house pulled "pork" that was very much like Chinese pork floss but much more tender. It'll definitely be my go to for takeaway when I'm the Rochester area.

    Spicy Salmon bagel

I wish I had time to come back and have the donuts! I had a salmon bagel. But not your ordinary salmon. Imagine salmon from a can but mixed with some spices and I think light mayo. Add it to a bagel with some nori. It was truly a different take on a salmon bagel but I really liked it. Coffee was great as well. So many other choices I would have like to try the Bahn Mi as well. The best part was meeting Abe himself there. If you enjoy the expression of love and creativity in your food the go to Old Abe's. Breakfast, lunch or anytime. So much more to offer than what I mentioned here.

THE BEST VEGAN FOOD IN ROCHESTER!! Absolutely LOVE this place, it's a kinda small interior with some outdoor seating but it's 100% worth it. I've never had a problem with any of my orders and I've gone here too many times to count. Vegan sandwiches to donuts and coffee, I wish more restaurants in Rochester were like this but this will do for now. Even a great option for non vegans so everyone can enjoy their meal, a park is also nearby so it's perfect for the warmer months.

Came w my dear friend who is Vegetarian. This is an all vegan place. It's cute and can be busy. We ordered a bagel sandwich and a Kung Pao bowl. The fake pork or fake chicken in the Kung Pao was tasty but your results may vary. Cool staff. Very polite and good at recommendations.

Really good food that was actually mind blowing. I usually am around this area for my frequent car washes during the winter but never made it to Old Abe until this past weekend. Ordered - Banh Mi (5/5). Wow - this tastes identical to a cold cut Banh Mi. From the mayo to the textures of the pork to the veggies and crunchy baguette, this was really really good. Don't forget some crispy baked fries to wrap it all together - Citrus Ribs Rice Bowl (5/5). So tasty. It has a very tangy orange chicken-like texture and flavoring that worked so well with the peas, brown rice, and corn. The portions were large so it served as lunch for the next day too Excited to visit and try these dishes again and also see what other menu items that is worth exploring!

My friend and I drive to Rochester as a halfway point once a month for a girls day and always like to try new places. I found Old Abe through here on Yelp and let me tell you.. it did not disappoint, we will definitely be coming back! The Bahn Mi (we did the pulled pork version) was sooo delicious..omg! I can see why it gets the excellent reviews! The Korean BBQ Bugolgi Bowl was also super tasty! So fresh, great texture and crunch. Yum! We both planned to take some home but ended up sitting there visiting for a couple hours and devoured it all.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Vegan restaurant with great vibes and great staff. Service was fast but great quality, too. Food was amazing! Ordered the "salmon" bowl and ribwich sammy - it was all delicious! Shocked by how tasty the vegan "fish" was! Will definitely go back when we drive through Rochester next.

Best place in Rochester! Very nice staff. We had donuts, smoothies and a dirty chai latte. Came in too early and the kitchen wasn't open yet. Will have to come back for the food. Super cute space!

Nope on the cuts of beef and MN cat sticker. $1 each.

It seems to be a newer area and because it shares a lot with Residence Inn, there's plenty of parking. We arrived early for dinner so only one table was occupied. Service was great, very friendly, courteous & helpful. Ambiance has a moderm but cozy feel with lots of wood mixed with metal elements. Menu was pretty straightforward. We had the Cumin beef, dandan noodle & Lanzhou Beef Noodle. Everything was great and did not disappoint- comparable to similar restaurants in the cities. Dandan had a great peanutty flavor, lanzhou beef had just enough thinly sliced beef shank & the noodles were perfectly chewy. We were so full could barely eat the cumin beef which takes a bit longer to make than the noodles but worth the wait. Will definitely come back if in the area.

We walked into First Meeting Noodle for a late lunch on a Sunday at 1PM and there was surprisingly…read morea line of customers waiting for seats. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes before getting a table. Beef Burrito ($9.50) - We ordered with cilantro on the side as one of the people in our party has the mutated OR6A2 gene. It's a pretty simple dish. I'm not sure if they make their scallion pancake in house or not. It's rather dense and not really that flaky, salted well and has the thick hoisin sauce to boost the sweetness and saltiness. The beef is relatively tender roasted beef shank, sliced thin, dressed simply. Most of the flavor here is from the hoisin. (4/5) Oil Splashing Noodle ($10.50) + Beef (+$3.75) - Starting with the pulled noodles - these are excellent. Pulled long with very consistent thickness, so everything cooks to the same delicious level of bounce. The hot oil sauce, unfortunately is sub par. It's far, far too sweet, almost like eating a dessert, and while there's a balanced amount of vinegar acidity and some nuttiness, there's no heat at all despite the redness of the oil. There's also a good amount of chopped garlic and peanut right on top, but they get lost in the sweetness. Ordering with beef just adds some sliced beef shank, the same as used in the burrito. It's a fine addition albeit not very exciting. (2/5) Taiwanese Tomato Beef Brisket Noodle Soup ($13.50) - Again, the noodles are excellent here, although they get softer the long they sit in the soup, which is to be expected. The broth here is also far too candy sweet, although this a bit more flavor complexity here from the beef braising spices, the beef itself, and some tomato umami. There's just enough flavor that the broth doesn't feel bland, but it's still very weak compared to a good Taiwanese beef noodle. There's a couple of slices of tomato, an almost invisible amount of pickled mustard (suan cai? zha cai? I can't tell given how little they give). Finally the beef brisket which is also quite weak. It's lean and I believe not braised for long enough, resulting in it being very tough and stringy. (2/5) I feel like these dishes have been adjusted too far to suit the Midwestern American palate. The food served at First Meeting Noodle is far, far too sweet for my tastes - it's a bad sign when a dish that's supposed to be spicy and umami foremost, then tangy, has sweetness as by far the strongest flavor. Then again, this is probably the only hand pulled noodle place within an hour drive, so maybe I should give them some slack.
