This house was probably the most extensive tour of the 3 - it starts with a 10 minute video introducing you to what happened that morning in April 1775. You're then brought into the well-kept house by a guide who introduces you to this beautiful home built by Thomas Clark, a wealthy book maker, for his parents who were in ministry. You can hear how much thought, money, and planning was put into the house through the guide's stories. This house is known for housing John Hancock and Samuel Adams on the big night - they were on the run with rewards on their heads. They escaped right in the nick of time when Paul Revere came to warn them to get out. It's absolutely fantastic to be able to see the original architecture and imagine the history that went on there. Guides are very informative and very enthusiastic about the house and everything in it. I'd recommend doing the package deal - the tickets never expire so even if you don't get to all 3 and want to come back another time or give the tickets to someone else to use, you can do that!

Concord is a town full of history and therefore, full of memorials. This set of plaques honors…read morethose who gave their lives while in the United States military. There are three stones. The largest is the center one, which is "In memory of these Concord men who gave their lives in the Second World War" and lists entirely too many names in alphabetical order. Underneath, "As we reverently and respectfully acknowledge the deeds and the faith of these men of Concord, we must rededicate ourselves to the protection of our independence. -Omar N. Bradley:" Below, "1941-1945 World War II. A grateful community dedicates this memorial to those who served our country." The monument to the left is for those who fought and died during the "Korean Conflict" and "Iraq" with names below each. The monument to the right is for those who found and died during the war in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam. The small park also has flags for each of the branches of the military, the United States and the POW-MIA flag. The brick walkway is quite smooth and it is a lovely tribute. The marker reads, "Near this spot stood the ancient oak known as Jethro's Tree beneath which Major Simon Willard and his associates bought from the Indians the "6 myles of land square" ordered by the General Court for the Plantation of Concord September 12, 1635." There is more information online. "The deed was early lost and never recovered, but there is ample evidence that it was duly executed and delivered. Tradition states that the bargain was made under an oak tree called Jethro's tree, and that the tree stood at a spot just in front of the site of the old Middlesex hotel at the southwesterly end of Concord square." "In the fall of 1635, a handful of early settlers arrived in Concord and built temporary homes for themselves and their cattle, according to the books, The History of Concord and Johnson's Wonder-Working Providence. Each colonist was awarded a house lot and a portion of planting-ground and meadow land. We loved getting to explore and learn about the history of the Nantucket Lightship. It was amazing getting to check out the inside of this landmark, but also to hear about what a significant role it played in history. I especially loved getting to check out the ship's recipe box, serving size 100. This is Boston's hidden gem for sure, and I couldn't recommend it more.

If you're in Gloucester and looking for something non-beachy to do, I recommend checking out…read moreEastern Point Lighthouse and walking across the breakwater to Dog Bar Lighthouse. First, you have to turn onto a private street lined with ridiculously beautiful mansions that you will never be able to afford in your lifetime and possibly your children's, staffed by a security guard (tell him you're here to see the lighthouse). After you drive past the private beach and the yacht club, all bedecked with No Trespassing and Private Entry Only signs to make you feel as unwelcome and plebian as possible by the 1% of Gloucester, you'll see the parking turn-off for the lighthouse. There, we met a very kind lady from Mass Audubon who explained the various migrational birds roaming around the area. You can't actually see or tour the lighthouse because it's fenced around and, from a distance, looks a little worse for wear. But looping around the side across some rocks, you can hop onto the jetty and stroll around and take in the sights. Great spot for photographers. It was beating down with zero shade and we forgot to put on sunscreen before heading out so we did a quick out-and-back but otherwise, it'd be a neat area to sit. $10 fee per vehicle (cash or QR code). No fee if you walk in. Definitely wear close-toed shoes; sandals or flip-flops on slippery rocks are a recipe for disaster. Also, watch out for poison ivy along the path to the jetty.

Beware: This is not a polished tourist destination. Only visit if you're looking for a bit of…read moreadventure. To get to the Eastern Point Lighthouse, you have to turn down a road marked as private. (Apparently it isn't, really?) Then, you pass some other unwelcoming signs. Then you finally get to a small gravel parking lot with a sign that says "All are welcome!" The lighthouse isn't operational or open for tours. It's surrounded by fencing that makes it look condemned. But, if you walk through some sand and rocks along the water and then do a small bit of rock climbing, you can get a good view of an iconic lighthouse. When I visited, it was freezing rain and very windy. When I climbed up on the rocks to take a picture, the winds up there were so strong I was worried they'd blow my phone out of my hand. Combined with the sense that I was almost trespassing, it was oddly thrilling. There's not enough going on to warrant a long trip, but if you're in the area, want a fun diversion, and are fine driving down narrow, possibly private roads to a small gravel parking lot before navigating sandy, rocky, seaweedy tidewaters to see something iconic, it's a worthwhile diversion.

Why only online. There was no line and no one was inside but the hostess refused to accept payment to allow us entry. So us and another couple left. The museum lost out on money because of this policy. Furthermore the hostess was rude and condescending when speaking with us. Better service and better payment options are needed.
