Came in to buy a few Cleveland-themed mustards (and other goodies) to take to a friend's house as a gift...and stayed for lunch! Wife and I split two sandwiches, the Pearl Road and the Boho. The Pearl Road consisted of turkey, raclette cheese and cheddar cheese topped with a spicy berry bourbon mustard between sourdough bread slices then grilled to perfection. The Boho was also a grilled sourdough concoction, this time topped with cheddar, horseradish spread, salami, raclette cheese and grilled onions. I think I had my hopes up a little too high for this place. I had driven by a couple of times and it looked really cute. So, when I had errands to run I made a point to plan for lunch here. Maybe I didn't understand the parking situation in the area but there doesn't seem to be a lot. After making my way inside, it's also fairly cute inside. There are a few tables for dining and a wide variety of products for sale. I wasn't really sure what was popular or kind of a must try item on the menu and after trying to engage with the person behind the counter, I didn't really feel like I got much guidance on my lunch and the interaction about the mostardas was fairly similar. If there's an amazing product on those shelves, I have no idea what it is. I opted for a sandwich and the seasonal quinoa salad. The sandwich was fine but a little light on whichever of their spreads that they put on the sandwich that's supposed to entice me to buy the jar. So, no jars were purchased. The salad felt like an odd combination of flavors and I left most of it behind. So, all in all, this place was fine but I definitely missed out on the excitement mentioned by other reviewers. The mustards are made in house and are award winning. Don't be shy - you can sample them all! And when (not if) you finish a jar, you can bring it back in for a discounted refill. Our favorites are the Original (IPA) and Smoked. They're so delicious that we eat them straight out of the jar (yum), add it to our cheese platters, or use it in cooking. They offer a sampling trio, which we purchased as a gift. The Old Brooklyn cheese shop mostly focus on processing cheeses in their shop. So if you're looking for an extra strong cheese with a generous amount of rind on it, then you won't find it here. Nevertheless it's still a good shop for casual cheese fans. I got a Havarti cheese with flecks of red pepper flakes and black pepper. The cheese itself was good, but I could do without the red pepper flakes. Cheese is a snack item good by itself for me. My companion asked for their strongest, stinkiest blue cheese that they had available. The ladies behind the counter were confident that their Stilton was the strongest blue cheese they had. But alas, it was lacking in the moldy, stinky parts that my companion liked on his blue cheesed. Like I wrote earlier, their cheese are mostly young. I was personally a fan of it though. Parking is scarce. You'll find some at the side of the store and around the back. It's a quiet little cheese shop that also sells sandwiches, which I look forward to trying if I decide to come back at a later date. read more

I've been wanting to go here for so long! They had a wide selection of cheeses from OBCC and others. We enjoyed sampling a few as well before deciding on a couple to take home. One of our favorites was Vat 17, a sharp cheddar with these crystals inside that added unique texture to the cheese! We loved sampling the mystery morsels as well. At $1 each, you get a small chunk, heftier than a sample. We enjoyed doing this and would consider getting more of the mystery ones next time, as well as sampling. They sent me a $5 coupon for my birthday so I thought I'd check out the new location. I think the new place is much more welcoming. It has flowers out front and a tiny table and chair. Inside is kind of similar except more square than rectangular. I love their sandwiches and today they didn't disappoint. The Lafayette sandwich was turkey with red pepper and a pepper mustard. I've had cheese from here before as I've been to a yelp elite event that had the cheese and my sister gets cheese and mustard here all the time. My friends wanted to come check this place out since we are all cheese lovers. It's an adorable little shop with a few tables outside, a picnic table and a few tables inside. They had so many cheeses it was absolutely amazing. We decided on a Grab and Go board for two. We got Siberian night, paprika and sharp cheddar with lemon curd mustard and spicy pear mostarda. We got a jar of berry bourbon mostarano. Omg so, so good! I wanted to lick my plate hahh while we were there we sampled the different mustards they had so we could figure out which one to get. Cheesemonger in paradise! This was a delightful find in Old Brooklyn. We had the cheesemonger plate, plenty to feed four people. It included four cheeses, nuts, two jams, bus, corn nuts, grapes and it was served with a big heap of bread. I don't know all of the cheeses we got but the one I took home. The manchego was amazing and was served with a quince paste. Paired together the flavors were amazing. There was plenty of seating and easy parking. Although they do not serve alcohol, there are some offerings like a cranberry lime drink that I really enjoyed. I can't wait to go back and try more of the cheeses. I went here for the first time and already can't wait to come back! As far as I know, the only cheese shop in the Cleveland area. It is to the left of the entrance of the zoo, so go on a date of zoo and cheese plate tasting! Many others have provided a lot of information about how they have cheese boards, individual cheese samples, a sandwich menu, and different events like raclette night. Yum. I ended up taking home 1/3 a pound of the OBCC-made gouda and a cheddar made in Cincinnati. There is plenty of seating, and there is one hour street parking right in front of the store or if you're coming from the other direction, the other side as well. Stopping here on a Saturday afternoon there were plenty of spots available. I have a feeling this is the type of place where you just find more and more things you love the more you go. It's a must! I recently visited the location in the van aken district market hall and got a cheese sampler. While the cheeses were good and there were many options available, the service was lackluster. Attempting to engage with the employee for recommendations and advice but the employee was unfriendly and unhelpful. I'm taking this interaction with a grain of salt because we all know the service industry is tough and everyone has bad days. However, I stand by my 3 star review because when I wanted to order the grilled cheese bites with tomato soup (a great addition to the menu) I was informed (after inquiring) that the soup is made with chicken stock. I think that to reach a wider audience they should have meatless soup options available for an otherwise vegetarian dish. Overall, it's worth trying but make sure to ask lots of questions and hopefully you'll get a nicer employee than I did! read more

Amazing cheese selection and staff to match. You can truly tell that the staff are as enthusiastic about cheese as the cheese is delicious. I needed two cheese platter for a work event. I was able to sample a wide variety of cheese and not only got to take a flavor adventure, I also learned about the cheese making process. The staff was able to make my idea come to life (all local cheese and meats) and even called me to make sure it was ok to trade a cheese out that was not ready and then described the new cheese choice to me. I saw a picture of a fancy delicious looking cheese platter on Yelp and immediately wanted to come to Old Brooklyn Cheese Company. I showed up on a Saturday afternoon and what I found was a simple cheese shop with an owner who is very passionate and knowledgeable about his cheeses. My friend ordered a sandwich and from what I gathered about their experience was that the sandwich was okay/good, but that the panini pressed bread was so hard it tore up the roof of their mouth. I ordered a 3 cheese board ($15) and was given a sampling of a 4th cheese on the house. This board was beautiful. Chunks of cheese paired with jams, mustards, fruits, nuts, honey, olive oil, and a basket of sliced bread. They don't write down what cheese you selected so from memory I think I got a cheese with peppercorns, some caramely cheese, and two bries... I think. The one that was melted I loved, but really I thought they were all good and ate the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. (Maybe write the names of the cheese down so if the customer likes it they can order more if they come back?). We brought in our own bottles of water to drink. Staff was definitely full of character and personable. They have no problem with letting you sample what they have to offer (be wary of the rattlesnake cheese, packs some heat!). The owner chatted with us for a bit which is something I always enjoy because it puts a face behind the name, lets you learn more about the product/vision, and it allows you to establish a positive connection to the business. Another great thing about this business is that they are very local. By that I mean they sell cheese created in-house, locally, and from other countries; some local pickles (Randy's Pickles); some local bread (Blackbird); some local jams (Cleveland Jam) and meats (Europa Charcuterie); and beverages (Old City Soda). So it's a wonderful place if you need to pick up cheese and want to support a local shop who sells other locally made items that pair well with the cheese. It's also a wonderful shop if you have money to spend to impress your work or other groups of people ($100 cheese platters), because these platters are fabulous. Way better than your standard Giant Eagle fair. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Because while I enjoyed my experience, I still felt like something was missing. I couldn't think of a reason to come back soon. I'm not at sugar mama status just yet so I can't afford to purchase the large platters for social occasions. I'm also solo so buying blocks of cheese, a large tube of cured meat, or even a whole baguette is not something I do. That stuff would go bad faster than I could snack on it. And while I know some places around Cleveland offer BYOB, that's illegal and Old Brooklyn is not even gonna risk it so no wine to pair with that cheese. If Old Brooklyn Cheese Company sold wine and offered wine tastings in the future I would 100% support them. As a young professional I enjoy a place I can meet up with friends or dates after work and enjoy a lovely cheese board and a drink. Down the road I think I'd come in for a 3 cheese board again (or a meat and cheese board if they have it?), I'd just get it to-go and assemble at home for better enjoyment. Otherwise if you don't care about selecting your own cheeses I heard that Vino Veritas is a new winery right down the road that sells little cheese boards from Old Brooklyn (this might be more of what I'm looking for). Lastly, as we were paying our bills, my friend was told they didn't have to tip but the staff member awkwardly watched the screen and asked if I was going to. I'd suggest turning the screen completely away and taking a step back so the customer can decide about gratuity without the staffs influence. I am ashamed it took me so long to visit as I live about 5 minutes away from OBCC. I came on a Saturday afternoon. They had many samples available to choose from and all were amazing. My favorite was the Mayfield Havarti, rich and creamy goodness. We ended up purchasing smoked gouda that was amazing as well. Also purchased was a container of pimento cheese that I have not tried yet and salted pear jam (you MUST try this, so good). The space is nice and clean with no frills as the star of the show is the cheese. Don't come in here expecting Land O Lakes prices, this cheese is the real deal so expect to shell out some cash LOL. Visiting France a few years ago changed my palate for quality cheese so finding well made handcrafted cheese in Cleveland is a dream to me. All of them were able to ask what type of flavor or cheese I enjoyed and offered some amazing suggestions. They also have a jar of little surprise samples for a dollar. We had seen this cute storefront numerous times but it normally closes at 5:00. Lucky for us, it was open until 7:00pm on Friday so we walked over to check it out. We were so pleasantly surprised! Although they serve some sandwiches, as the name would suggest, this is a real bona fide cheese shop and that's their specialty. Michael, the owner and one of two cheese-makers in Cleveland encouraged us to learn about and try different cheeses, especially his own delicious cheeses. At his prompting, we were quickly sold on a $15 mixed meat, cheese and lots of little extras, including his homemade mustard, in a to-go box. He and Maria were extremely nice and knowledgeable able cheeses and also gave recommendations for other great places and things to do in our neighborhood. We are sold!
