The waitress (I wish I had caught her name) was incredibly kind. I explained the situation and told her I'd go grab cash, and she was totally understanding. I came back and made sure to tip her well, she deserved it. I asked if they served food, and while they don't, she went out of her way to recommend a Korean spot next door and Red Dog Saloon for pizza. She even said it was perfectly fine to bring food back. So I did exactly that, grabbed some Korean chicken, brought it back, and paired it with a hot apple cider cocktail. Perfect night. She pays attention to either the locals or her friends I would assume. Need to pay attention to drink costs. She tried to keep cash and gave me the wrong change then gave attitude when I wouldn't tip. With my experience tending I could tell she would over pour or not even ring up people and give free drinks away. Not sure if the owners are cool with that or not but with the great prices the bar offers I'm not sure there is a lot of profit. Anyways rant over as this just makes us actual bartenders who know how to make a real drink look bad.

We visited the beautiful Catholic Church and visited with Tim who has worked at the church for about 15 years. He was very nice and has a lot of fun info on the church and town. VC is an old silver mining town and it still looks like it did way back then. Wood boardwalks through town with lots of gift shops . We visited in the off season but starting in May there are all sorts of things to go. Train rides, old time gun shows. It's definitely a tourist town but a fun one. The drive up was very pretty. Ended up at Mark Twain Saloon and it was a great stop. Great looking old bar. Bartender was fun. Had sone whisky and a beer. Visited with a couple locals and had a great time.

Recently expanded…read more It's been a year since my last visit to the Twain. My group likes it since it's a short walk from the hotel. Small locals bar with slots and machine gaming. In the last year the took over the space next door to the south. This space has a small kitchen for snacks and some gaming machines, making the original area less crowded. The old school bar and decor is a step back to days when miners would come in for a whiskey after hours of searching for silver. On non event days it's nice to enjoy the great staff. During events the Twain can be quite popular and busy.

I remember taking the mine tour and being amazed that it is a part of our local history. I met some friends on a chilly Friday evening for drinks and karaoke. There was quite the crowd already at 8pm and I could tell it was a popular local watering hole. All the patrons were singing along with each karaoke guest and having a great time. The bartender was a very nice guy that was doing a great job keeping up with everyone despite being the only one behind the bar that night. We made sure to tip him well. He was slinging fresh cocktails, fresh draft pours, and some ready to drink cocktails. A couple of us put our names and song choices in for karaoke, the DJ had pretty much everything available to him. The songs ranged from classic rock, classic country, modern rock, modern country, 80's chart toppers, and some obscure songs that a number of locals got pumped up to hear! I got up to belt out my raspy rendition of The Promise, it was fun to get to 'perform' in front of a crowd again. A couple others in my group sang their hearts out as well. We will be back soon!

His faithful and cute sidekick Winston, possibly an English pointer, is a doll. The snowy weather seem to be keeping most people away. So we has the bar, Junior and Winston to ourselves. Enjoy some fabulous hot cocktails, beer that was filled from the bottom of the glass, and some interesting chocolate whiskey. We were even able to bring out to go in from the Mexican restaurant next door. The rest of the weekend we popped in and out trying a few more beers and cocktails.
