I ordered from Old Damascus through the Too Good To Go app. You don't get to choose what you'll receive. It says that for $6.99 you'll receive a meal worth $21. I've never been to this restaurant before, so that is what's fun with TGTG, you can try places you've never been to before at a discounted rate and you help save food that might have eventually been headed to the dumpster. The restaurant was cute, I liked the decor. The man that met me was nice and friendly. I arrived a few minutes ahead of the slotted pickup time so I took a seat at the couch near the door. I received one of the Chicken Over Rice (Kabsa). The meat was moist and fell right off the bone. The rice was rather dry and it had a cinnamon flavor to it. What I was most shocked at was the serving size of the chicken - it was very small. If I had to pay $21, full price, I would have been very upset. Since I only paid $6.99, so be it. read more

What a pleasant find! This little hidden gem was awesome and I can't wait to go back. Restaurant was very clean and spacious. The owner greeted us when we came in. He was also the host and the chef (LOVE THAT). He treated all the guests with the same level of love and attention, even bringing our little daughter a plate of fries when she got a little fussy at the table. The food was solid. We had never tried food from this area so thought we would give it a try. We got the lamb and chicken kabsa and the kubbeh as our appetizer. The lamb and the chicken were really overcooked and the flavor was not very good. The rice was okay. The kubbeh was not good. Maybe it's me, but the flavor was just not good at all. What a treat. Nice new Syrian restaurant at Coit and Campbell (more on Campbell towards UTD). The menu is fault limited but covers all the Middle Eastern basics of hummus, stuffed grape leaves, kebabs, and Schwarma. Service was very eager and attentive. Process are very reasonable. good place to check out for their special rice dishes Old Damascus is located in a complex with other restaurants and shops. It has a lot of indoor seating. Servers were friendly. We ordered the mint lemonade, hibiscus lemonade, hummus, kibbeh, chicken kabsa, lamb Mandi, and falafel sandwich. I love trying out new types of drinks, and these were good. Mint lemonade could use a little more of something to get the perfect balance (maybe more mint?). The hibiscus one was nice too, but it could be too sweet for some people. Hummus was good, but I wish the pita bread served with it was a little warmed. Kibbeh had some crunch to to, with delicious meat, but I would prefer it with less dough around the edges. The mains were all great! Lamb was very tender; it fell off the bone. The Mandi rice was my favorite rice. Chicken was very moist and tender too, but I felt like the meat inside could use a little more flavor, but if you add a little of that dakhoos sauce they give with it, it perfects it. Kabsa rice was tasty as well, but it had a little heat in the aftertaste. We also got a cucumber mint yogurt sauce, which I loved! I loved the crunch of the falafel in the falafel wrap. We always want to support the restaurants in our neighborhood so we tried Old Damascus but we are disappointed by our experience here. We ordered 2 Chicken Shawarma Plates. But instead of the expected chicken shawarma with rice and veggies, we got chicken wraps and French fries and pickles. We called and confirmed with owner that their Chicken Shawarma Plates Do Not come with rice nor veggies. The wraps were dried but French fries were good so 3 stars. read more

Loved everything. The chicken, the hummus, the fattoush. The frozen mint lemonade is so good I'd go back just for that. 100% recommend.

I am loving the ambiance and decor of the place! We got to the restaurant right as it opened for lunch so we were the only ones there for a brief moment. The service might seem a little slow but also you're warned to just wave at them when you're ready to order/need anything/etc. We tried the yalinche (grape leaves) and lamb kabobs. Both were pretty good. I do think I could use an extra lemon with the kabobs but overall it was great. The menu said you get pita with the grilled kabob dishes however we did not get any pita. That is the only angst I truly have as I LOVE pita. I will be back to try some of the other items on the menu though. I believe the owner offered us tea/coffee to try but we had to get going. I ordered online through their website for takeout and it worked really well, my food was ready when I arrived at the restaurant and the order was accurate. The interior decor is really nice with lots of seating and a warm earthy tone. The Shawarma wraps were really good, I liked that they used a unique type of thin pita bread for the wrap, instead of thick fluffy pita or tortillas that I've seen at most Dallas Middle Eastern restaurants. The Tabouleh was really good and so was the Kibbeh. The mint yogurt dip was a little soupy, but I'll give it another try in the future in case I got an off batch. read more

Went here for the first time and customer service was good but food was not! First of all, their outside shop sign is very small and therefore this place is hard to see from the main road. On top, this shop is between two shops whose signs are much bigger than this shop. I like the design/font but the sign size is just too small. We ordered beef kebab and kabsa. Beef kebab was good and we liked it. Unfortunately, kabsa was not good at all. Chicken was baked and didn't taste anything but like a tasteless boiled chicken. Rice didn't have any taste either and was tasted old. On top of this, even though kabsa costed $24, it did not come with any sides beside the kabsa tomato sauce! It should have come up with salad, veggies, or some other sides, etc. We asked for garlic sauce and it was brought in. Turned out it costed us extra $3 for a small portion. How hard is it to tell the customer if something will cost extra? I didn't try any other food so don't know how they taste like. read more

For an Irish gal, I feel like i just had a wonderful party of flavors in my mouth. My tummy is thanking me. This is the real deal!!! I can't imagine how many fresh ingredients and spices were used, but it was amazing. The beautiful young waitress made some great suggestions. I may have to drive back from Fort Worth. Amazing food, amazing service. Didn't know what to expect as it was quite quiet for Saturday at lunch time. Our dishes came without waiting very long. Everything we ordered including drinks were incredible. The wrap on the shawarma was perfectly toasty on the outside and soft inside. The lamb was the highlight of it all. So tender and flavorful. Maybe it was an anomaly, but I ate at this restaurant on a week night with a group of 20 people. We had reservations, and the restaurant knew we would be there. The same night there was a table of about 20 well-dressed people who seemed to be Syrian friends of the owner. There was only one waitress who spoke little English. We had to point to the menu. This poor girl had to serve both large tables plus one small one. Rather than pitching in to help, the Owner swanned around his table of friends. They came in after us, were served promptly and with pomp and circumstance. We were left to our own devices and waited 1.5 hours for food to arrive. It arrived in parts. I was the last to be served a simple salad. Everyone else had finished eating. There was one cook and one waitress, and the owner did not help. The good: prices were very reasonable, the portions huge and the quality of food average. The bad: the service was unacceptable, and the pita was ice cold. You had to ask for a glass and no water except they did bring some plastic water bottles. I did have my own water. BYOB means bring any drinks. Unless you share their nationality or with a headscarf, you will not get good service. This is not the way we do things in the US. All patrons should be served equally regardless of nationality. read more

Ate here and ordered what was supposed to be a chicken kabob. Whatever came out was not in any way shape or form a kebab. It was supposed to have grilled vegetables that was some onion half a tomato and what I think was mint. The rice tasted terrible and the pita was not even close to what a pita should be.
