I have never had a big issue with this location, it has been great. But, my last two visits I noticed the amount of meat on my sandwich has been lacking, see photo for the #3. Upon entrance I was greeted by Ms. sherry. I told her it was our first time and she told me to ask whatever I needed! We ended up getting the turkey and cheese sandwiches dressed in the works and omggggg! Also got the chicken poblano upon ms. Sherry's recommendation and a garden salad (dressed in the works). Everything was so fresh and good. The sandwiches don't come in several sizes, just one & it's about 7 inches. For the two sandwiches, soup, and salad we paid right at $32.00. Not bad. The sandwiches themselves were delicious. Customer service was amazing, ms. Sherry, Jose and that whole line was so patient and nice to us and explained everything we needed to know as first timers. Come, AGAIN YALL . Ordered online. Wanted a #12, heated on wheat with bacon added, soup and a lemonade. AGAIN, got home, sandwich Not heated so bacon is cold with cold grease on it-Super Nasty and of course other meats not heated. The food remains just as impeccable as I remember, and the staff continues to deliver the kind of customer service that made me fall in love with this place decades ago. On my most recent visit, I was greeted by Auvianna W., who was warm, welcoming, and ready to serve. She reminded me of a manager they had years ago, Rick, who always made sure long nights of studying or quick breaks between classes were made better with great service and my favorite sandwich (always with extra mayo, light thousand, and a strip of mustard!). I also want to recognize Tina and Liam, who were attentive and enthusiastic as they shared the new menu items with me. Their excitement was contagious and made the visit even more enjoyable. It's rare to see a restaurant carry on such a strong legacy for decades, but The Great Outdoors in Richardson truly has. I've been a patron of The Great Outdoors since the very beginning, so it breaks my heart that I had the worst sandwich ever at the Richardson shop on July 13. I ordered a #20--an avocado sub with provolone and the works. Unfortunately for me, there were 4 slices of very thinly sliced avocado (almost none existent) on a stale wheat sour dough bun. There was very little lettuce and 2 mealy sliced tomatoes. I am complaining because this is not the way this place ever operates. You could have done better guys. Two things I'm excited happens in 2022: 1) the closure of an iconic sub shop on Lemmon Ave and 2) moving to Richardson, so I can live much closer to this amazing jersey-made sandwich shop! Every sandwich is artistically made, but make sure you are very detailed and specific with how you want your sandwich since every artist will make it exactly to your taste, as long as you don't inconveniently interrupt their routine, they might give you a little huff and puff. Aside from that, nothing is overly served on the fixings, and the bread is incredibly fresh and soft. Delish!! read more

Great is an understatement, their subs and lemonade are down right best thing on either side of the Mississippi. I have been eating at Great Outdoors since 1998. I was concerned about the Richardson location moving, but the move was great. The new restaurant has more room and is very clean. The staff is wonderful, I always get assisted by the same lady and guy. I guess they are managers, they work everyday. I miss the nachos they had in the early 90's, but the salads now fit my lifestyle. These days I either buy the 17 or 20 as a salad. This is one of the few restaurants that gets to know their customers and treats customers like friends. I just want to say thanks for a great product that is backed up by a friendly and professional staff. read more

We walked by to grab some ice cream because we had already ate lunch next door. The ambiance was very lively and had a diner feel--they seem to specialize in subs. We stood in front of the ice cream counter and watched the guy replace the kona coffee ice cream bucket. Everything was fine until...he tried to scoop the coffee and was struggling to get a uniform piece because he was trying to grab the scraps from the previous bucket with his gloved hands. The same gloved hands he was manipulating the previous and new bucket that was on the floor. I was so traumatized by how thoughtlessly he grabbed the ice cream that we just said forget about the coffee one. My fiance felt bad and just asked for the peanut butter finger flavor. YET HE STILL NEVER CHANGED HIS GLOVES. He literally had grabbed the coffee a moment ago and had the waffle cone in his hand after. He tries to shove it in the waffle cone and ends up cracking it. And he thought that that was okay? Someone needs to have a talk with him, pronto. Would've loved to come here for a sub...but if some of the employees are handling food safety that way...idk what else to say--that was disgusting. We bought the peanut butter ice cream, walked outside, and trashed it. Went over to mcDonalds and they served the ice cream on a tray and provided napkins. My favorite sandwiches are the #8, which is a Turkey and Cheese Sandwich and also The Invention, which is Ham and Cheese woth cream cheese heated and served on Toasted Bread...it is Amazing! The times they are a-changin'. I was excited to drive through the new location after going to the old one for 30 years. Seemingly always a long wait but the good sandwiches make it worth it. However, today I was handed a pad to "sign for my charge", which was actually a way to ask for a tip. Of course "no tip" is one of the options I could pick, along with 10-15-20%, but the lady watching me from the window makes me feel like I schmuck if I choose not to tip. Soliciting a tip for drive-through service bums me out. Since I prefer to avoid feeling bummed, I don't think I will drive through again. read more
