The first thing you notice when you walk into the establishment is the ambience, it is like going back in time. The AROMA woke up my taste buds and I anticipated a phenomenal meal. I was not disappointed!!! I had the smoked turkey platter. The two sides were macaroni and cheese and baked beans. The meat was delicious and cooked to perfection. And you can't go wrong with mac and cheese and baked beans. There was a line to place your order the entire time we were there, but it moved quickly. From the time I walked in the door until the pager "buzzed" for me to pick up my order, was probably less than 10 minutes. I strongly recommend trying this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. The manager even stopped by my table to ask me if everything was to my satisfaction. She told us about the band playing outside and that normally on Thursdays they do pizza. Stopped in for dinner on a ln early fall Saturday evening. Upon arriving, we were immediately informed that they would have live music inside that evening (due to rain earlier, it was moved inside) but if we wanted a quieter dinner we were welcome to choose a seat outside on the covered porch. I was impressed straight away by their attention to making sure we had the experience we wanted, whether that was listening to live music or having a quieter dinner. You order at the counter and are given a pager to let you know when to come back and pick up your food. So while there are no servers, we found the staff at the counter to be very helpful and attentive. All of our group ordered the pulled pork, which I found to be good. Their vinegar-based sauce (they have a couple of different options) I found to be good, though I would have preferred something a bit more on the acidic side. Sides were also quite good. If I could give this restaurant more stars than it allows I would. This is my favorite place to go get pork and beans. The Baked beans is the best. I love the service- you order, wait and go get it. The atmosphere was the only redeeming quality, if there could be redemption. After spending an afternoon in the mountains, we were in need of a good spot to chill and eat. Finding this spot, my husband and I figured this would be a nice "hole in the wall" spot. Since we love doing that type of thing amongst other travelers. The chicken salad, was basically chunky canned chicken, celery and mayonnaise. That's it. (And not even good canned chicken) it was bland, and tasted heavy of mayo with no seasoning. Granted, I joked with my husband who ordered it. "Who orders smoked chicken salad at a BBQ restaurant" The barbecue was an even bigger let down. Bland and dry. Essentially makes the Sahara look like a rainforest on the level of dryness. Trying to redeem it with sauce was an even bigger mistake. Choose to eat here tonight, which has been normally very good in the past. However, I ordered a Chicken Sandwich w/ side and a Sweet Tea to drink. What I received was two room temperature chicken slices (no bread), and the worst sin was being served severely over priced (7.00) nasty tasting no sugar "sweet " tea. It will be some time before I will attempt to eat there again, there are far too many other restaurants near by that serve far better quality food. Okay when you have been to Mast General, I have to admit my expectations were very low when we came here for a visit. The product due to covid has been lessened of course so it was sort of spartan. The place is very small and quaint. They have those things you would find at Boutique stores, Local grown honey, Hand made items, Artwork, etc. So on face value this place is lesser than Mast General but, what made this place special that you do not get from Mast the employees, everyone was wearing masks but you could see their "SMILES" in spite of the masks. Go in have a drink(Hot or Could) order some food and sit on the deck and enjoy the fresh air 2 employees in particular Shannon and Rebecca made this place special and because of them we will return again and again. I Wish more places had these type of employees that just make you feel like you come in everyday and you are a regular. Rustic, country store ambiance. You order at the register from a blackboard, go find a table, come get your food when ready, and clean up after yourself. Had little or no interaction with the staff after ordering. Two barbeque plates, two sandwiches, one plate of pork skins, two beers, and two drinks later, we spent $100. Not a cheap lunch. Food was okay. Sides were a little to be desired on flavor and temperature. There were two bbq sauces to use, no mustard-based sauce. Our pork bbq did have some gristle in it. Came on a Sunday a little after 2pm, unfortunately, we didn't see the sign outside that everything closed at 3 - and since quite a few people were around we weren't really expecting it... Got some really cold/gross smoked chicken BBQ, beans that tastes like Busch's, and flavorless collard greens, a spring salad and two tap waters for $27 (They DON'T have brisket also, btw). Tried to go look at the art shop next store but they closed their door at 2:45.... Disappointing all around. As we were leaving, the staff told to come back to see them again soon to check out the rest (of what they closed early), but I don't think we'll ever be back to this Linville establishment on this, or any future trips. Sad. Really was interested in looking at their arts, crafts, etc. If you're going to go, watch the hours - and don't get food 1/2 they before they close. I haven't been here in years and really enjoyed lunch today. The place has been transformed primarily into and eating and drinking establishment and less of a general store. This is a very nice change! Smoked meats (pork, chicken, and turkey) are the specialties of the house and are very nice. I had the pulled pork sandwich on sourdough bread. The bbq had a very nice smoke flavor and a nice amount of "bark" or "brown". I loved the grilled toasted sourdough. This isn't your typical North Carolina bbq sandwich and was a welcomed change! Old Hampton has a nice offering of sides including: Mac n Cheese, potato salad, beans, collards, and Cole slaw. I had the potato salad which was excellent. My wife had the Mac N Cheese which was ok. They now have a bar with a nice selection of craft beers, a nice compliment to the food. Old Hampton now hosts music groups and events like their Ramp Festival. It's a nice little local restaurant in Linville, NC near the Grandfather Mountain. There's plenty of customer at 5:30pm. It has a nice little gift shop in the restaurant. We just went in and look for our chairs. They have no waiters, but we gave 20% tip to the cash register. Maybe try to customized your tip on how you like to give knowing there's no waiters to assists you. We ordered pulled pork sandwich,pulled pork platter, smoked chicken sandwich, French fries, chicken tenders, smoked wings(dry rub), and mac and cheese. We like the pulled pork sandwich over the platter. The smoke chicken sandwich is good. French fries is gooood! The dry rub smoked wings is good. As we'd both missed breakfast due to the clock's insistence, I was directed here as a "great place to get lunch" for my wife whilst she worked at her NailTech's duties at Linville's wonderful "Spa at Eseeola Lodge." Our 40-minute-commute on winding, single-lane, mountain roads, didn't make the hunger less palpable. Because we live in the highest mountains in the USA, east of the Rockies--and I want to be certain my wife's safe--I chauffeur the 75-mile round trip, and when it's a short day will park outsie the Spa, leech on the wi-fi, and study my Cybersecurity Cert materials. So I was happy to hear of "Old Hampton" being so close. When I got there it was mid-afternoon, yet they were packed so well that I had to park in a lot that was behind a Blacksmith's Shop out further behind the Restaurant. Surprising amount of diners for that time of day--but it soon was apparent as to just why. Once I bit into one of the two BBQed Pulled Pork sandwiches that I'd grabbed to go, the taste/texture/aromas were as close to divine as I could imagine. I sat at the bar for a fresh local ale w/high ETOH level and an equally heavenly taste, as the wait was clearly to be about 30 minutes, as the buzzy-radio-thingy that I was handed when I paid was numbered "90." I took the wait-opportunity to nurse my ale--and a second--and devour the menu with my eyes and imagination. The food described was of the "I-can't-make-a-choice" variety and I was literally salivating in my beer. I ordered potato skins to go with, an order of HOMEMADE chicharrones (pigskins delectably fried) for my 110lb. Malamute & pint-sized, rescued Bluenose Pit Bull puppy to scarf down. I figured to distract them into not watching ME  eating as if they were ready to jump any scraps that eluded me. Of course, I wouldn't pass on some exquisite chocolate cheesecake for afterward. The quality of food was prime-meat, perfectly prepared. The sauces were delightful, and I even swiped some of the dogs' treats, to my extreme delight. I'd never had chicharrones of such perfection--and I lived in Miami Beach for 15 years. I'll have to return, and soon, to make a dent in the not-insubstantial menu offerings. Everyone around me--from six to 76--seemed to be awfully quiet--as in too busy eating to talk--for such a packed restaurant, as the food was looking, smelling, and obviously tasting phenomenally to everyone eating. You could even hear the two bluegrass musicians conversing on stage at the other side of the place! The guitar and violin duo were putting out some delightful licks, and that made the beer-at-the-bar wait just a wonderful experience all around. There's SO much in the decor of old farm implements and other nostalgic bric-a-brac that you find yourself "reading" the walls rather c.losely. Their menu is calling me back. I don't think that I can resist its siren call beckoning me back to tear off another chunk of the fabulous menu. Can't see it taking me as long as a week. I think I know just what I'm ordering--AND what I want my wife to order so we can share what we get--as we routinely do. My family was headed back from hiking Linville Falls and looking for a place to eat. We stumbled upon this super cute country store, which also had a small restaurant (and even a bar) included inside towards the back of the building. It was exactly what we were looking for. They are set-up quick service style so you order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. My group ordered several things from the menu including the fried pickles. The food came out quickly and the service was great. The fried pickles were easily my favorite thing we ordered. They had a wonderful crunch that is often hard to achieve. The only thing we did not enjoy was the stale bun my turkey sandwich and my sister's bologna sandwich came on. While this was a dissatisfier, it definitely wouldn't keep me from eating here again because hey, mistakes happen. A great find near Grandfather Mountain! Got the chopped pork plate with collard greens and potato salad for about $11. The chopped pork was a good portion (1/2 lb!), moist and flavorful. I liked the vinegar sauce they had on the side as well as the thicker bbq sauce. The collard greens were quite good with small pieces of bacon scattered around. Potato salad was fine, nothing too special. Their cornbread could be improved though. Great atmosphere with a little shop in the front area with local honeys and jams, and a porch in front so you can eat outside. Order at the counter and your food will be brought to you. My friend got a salad with chicken salad on top and the portion was quite large! Around back, there are also a bunch of little art and antique stores so it's pretty fun to poke around. read more

I always like to try new places in whatever area I am traveling though, especially unique places such as this. The location is convenient and easy to find. For dining in, it was entirely too cold and had to keep our coats on. The food was just ok, priced a little to high for what it is. The customer service was very friendly. There are no servers, but like many places these days a "tip" of a minimum of 20% was suggested. You must pay prior to getting your food. That's always a major turn off for me personally after working in the hospitality business for many many years. You should be allowed to experience the visit before being asked for money that may or may not be "earned". This always irritates me, no matter where it is. The "store" was a very, very tiny portion of the location. It left me wishing for more, as the things they did have were unique, but nothing I couldn't live without. I suppose Cracker Barrel's store has me spoiled. I was expecting something more along the lines of Mast General Store in Vilas, NC. I wasn't disappointed, but sadly wasn't wowed either. read more

The chicken was flavorful but lacked a wow factor. The collards and Mac-n-cheese were really good but the corn bread underperformed for me. I'm a huge fan of sweet cornbread but this was definitely more savory than sweet. It was also a bit dry. This is a solid option in the area if you're looking for a quick bite and live entertainment. We've been fans of Old Hamptons for a while now. The recent addition of their full bar makes us devotees! Anyone who's spent time in the area knows it's challenging to find a drink, much less a good cocktail or local, craft beer. Old Hamptons delivers on both! Their mixed drinks are creative, tasty and best of all, pretty cheap! A drink that would easily cost you $14 in Charlotte is only $9 here. Their beer selection also blows me away, too! We're talking Lost Province, Blind Squirrel, Boone Shine, etc. In case you're after more than a stiff drink, rest assured that the food here is also good. I've only tried a few things but look forward to trying more! I'll keep you posted via photos of everything we eat, as per usual. In case you're after more than food and drink, check out all the fun shopping on site! There are fun trinkets in the general store itself as well as art and antiques next door. I'm not sure if these art and antiques are a part of Old Hamptons but you should definitely check them out regardless.
