Overall a decent BBQ place - a few things that I noticed though (1) you can't order just a brisket plate/tray, you have to get it as part of a combo plate. (2) Hush puppies - I can't remember going to a BBQ place and having to order HPs as a side - especially paying $4 for a bowl of 5 of them. (3) After bringing out our plates, one was the wrong plate and when I got the waitress back to correct it, she took the plate that had been on our table for a couple of minutes and put it back in the window so someone could take it to the correct table. We decided on sharing the 3 meat plate (pork belly, turkey, and beef brisket) with 2 sides (collard greens and mac and cheese) and asked for toast, along with their banana pudding and it was just the right amount of food for us 3! If you have a big appetite this may not be enough for you, but we were quite full. I am allergic to pork, so I couldn't touch the collard greens and of course the pork belly, but my parents thoroughly enjoyed them both, and they are picky eaters! I e joked everything, and appreciate that the banana pudding was a good size and not too sweet. We had a great experience at the Banner Elk location so we drove a bit out of our way from West Jefferson to grab a late lunch here yesterday. It started with about a 20 minute wait - not a big deal. The hostess called to let me know our table was ready and mispronounced my name - it happens. She led us to a wet table - at least it was cleaned right? Our server was friendly enough and got us our drinks quickly. I took awhile for her to come back and take our food order. 30 minutes after sitting down we still didn't have our food. I ordered ranch with my meal when we ordered and it didn't show up with our food, so I asked for it again. About 15 minutes later our server came back and I had to ask for the ranch a third time. Our food was mediocre - it was definitely better in Banner Elk. My sweet potato fries were burnt - the ranch was not made that day - some slices of the brisket were cooked perfect and another was overcooked. The hash brown casserole didn't taste fresh but was decent. The ribs were better at the other location. The pulled pork could have been better as well. It was also nice to watch folks who ordered their food after us get served in less than 15 minutes. I didn't stop in the restroom, but I heard it could have used a good cleaning from one of my dining companions. The kicker? The 1am phone call I received from the same phone number calling to advise our table was ready. We'll probably drive the extra time for better food and better service the next time we're in town. read more

Wow! Excellent BBQ with massive servings! Standard college kid working her way through college was pretty awesome and very friendly. We had about eight people, we came a little early for dinner, and we were able to get a table fairly quickly. I really wanted to give them a higher score, but when I received my food, I was very disappointed. I got turkey on a salad, and it wasn't a cheap salad, so when I saw the amount of turkey that I had on my salad, that was minuscule, I was very disappointed. When I asked the waitress if that was the right amount of turkey on there, she said yes, but that she could get me some more for an extra charge. Now keep in mind the rest of my party all received heaping portions of meat on their trays or sandwiches, so it wasn't like I was asking for something out of the ordinary. There was plenty of lettuce, but that wasn't what I really wanted more of. Just more than an ounce of turkey. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, but I would not recommend getting the turkey salad ever. The inside of the restaurant is large. We had to wait for a table and sat at the bar and had some good drinks so I do recommend going here just be wary of what you order. read more

We came at 11:30 on a cloudy chilly Saturday with our dog in tow. We were offered rags to dry our table off as it had been raining but we brought our own towel but appreciated the offer. The service was great. We got the heavy hitter platter with 4 meats, 4 sides and all the sauces!! Delicious. We visited the banner elk location years ago and got the same thing and have been dreaming of if ever since. The Boone location came through. The price was very affordable for all you get and the beer was generously priced. We have leftovers too. We weren't planning on coming here we were headed to downtown Boone but I knew the parking would be a mess on a busy peak fall weekend. I was looking forward to going to woodlands with a group of friends when I realized it had changed to The Pedalin Pig. My favorite location is definitely the one in blowing rock but this location wasn't too bad. Parking was fine as well. My group of 10 got there at around 6 and there was hardly anyone waiting. One of the hostess told us the large table directly next to the door was being cleaned off and that we could wait outside and get called to sit there shortly. around 30 minutes pass and we go and check and they sat another group down at that table. We had to wait another 20 minutes while the next set of longer tables were cleared. I under miscommunication among the team but what came about this mistake was unfortunate during out birthday trip. We get sat around almost 7 and immediately order our drink and food. In the span of 15 mins we had our waitress come to tell us they were out of pulled pork, mac n cheese, and hashbrowns casserole. We had to change our orders 3+ times. She was nice and comped our drinks but it was incredibly disappointing as this was a big reason why I came to boone for my birthday. Aside from that tragic start the food was great and our waitress was so kind and patient. I will say: - The pulled chicken and the wings were AMAZING - We ordered a basket of hushpuppies which we so good - Their banana pudding was so good i'd come back just for it - the smoke house is a great dish to share I got an extra side and we still had leftover. - The side platter was a great for our vegetarians in the group which is why the slow elimination of sides was disappointing. - the brisket tacos were great and so filling we ordered 3 but 2 and a side could have been enough. - we ordered a 10 count of wings from the appetizer section and there were so good. We enjoyed a late lunch after spending the morning hiking several local trails. The restaurant is beside a gas station. The exterior signage is not very good but look for a painting on the building of a pig riding a bicycle. There is plenty of parking. We sat at the bar and received great service. I enjoyed the smoked Turkey salad with a side of bbq sauce. My husband ordered collard greens and what they call chicharrones...I would call them fried pork skins. (In south Florida chicharrones are meatier.) They came with a cheese sauce. They have a large offering of beer but a very limited wine list. The food was good. Located in a plaza right next to a gas station, but we had heard decent things about the restaurant, so we gave it a go. When you walk it,it smells amazing! It was a rainy day, and so it was pretty dark in the restaurant, definitely needs more lighting. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly. Waitress was friendly and came over to take our order. We got the pulled pork fries as a starter, and they were epic! I wish we had stopped there but then we got food. I got the brisket taco, and it was underwhelming. You get some spice but minimal flavor. I ordered the Mac and cheese as a side, and it was very bland as well. Husband got the brisket and Mac and cheese. Very popular place. There is lots of parking and was almost full when we visited. Arriving around 6:30 on Saturday my wife, grandson and I had to wait 35 minutes to be seated. A BBQ place in North Carolina, guess what the decor is, old wood and rustic. Nothing fancy in seating! The sides we decided on were french fries, potato salad, collards and hashbrown casserole. Potato salad is mayo and mustard based, collards are not heavily seasoned and were a little dry. Hashbrown casserole is a bowl with potato topped with melted cheese. The meats all have smoke flavor and there are about seven sauces offered upon request. The Pedalin' Pig jerked me around for the better part of a year as I tried to get a group of 40 people set up to eat in any one of their 3 locations. ALL of the communications between me *and Jenna - their events coordinator* had been initiated by me starting almost exactly one year prior. I called repeatedly following the effects of Hurricane Helene to check if we were still ON. No one at the Blowing Rock location told me anything about the place closing down; Nor could I get anyone to speak with any authority; Nor could I get Jenna to respond until after the 2025 New Year. And then there was always a reason that she couldn't speak authoritatively about an event that was fast approaching. I was getting pretty frustrated. And YET, lo and behold, AFTER I told Jenna I had made other plans with weeks to go, I got an email that they were canceling my assigned Catering Number. I had NEVER been treated as though I was trying to bring 40 paying customers and a music duo to them. Until AFTER I broke contact. The Pedalin' Pig simply doesn't want a large crowd during the OFF Season - and mid-afternoon hours - when no one else is taxing their staff. So we (I) changed our event to another more responsive venue before it was too late. Now I know why their reviews are so bad. Second time having Pedalin' Pig, the first time being at a camp where they catered. I remember the camp food being surprisingly good so I decided to go back again. Got the weekday lunch special (available 11 am - 3 pm): your choice of pulled pork, brisket, or turkey sandwich, cole slaw or bbq slaw, fries, and a drink. I opted for the pulled pork sandwhich and bbq slaw. Service was fast since I came closer to 3 pm. The sandwich was thick, flavorful, and slightly dry without sauce. However, there's a range of sauces you can try which add another dimension of flavor. I got both the eastern and western sauces, and liked the western more. Very generous portion of pulled pork for a $10 sandwich! The bbq cole slaw was interesting. Instead of using mayo like a traditional cole slaw, they used bbq sauce. It is pretty sour, which is good for cutting through the fattiness of the meat, but I personally didn't love the taste. However, the bowl was large and the slaw wasn't watery, so still pretty good imo. It also came with a large portion of crinkle cut fries which were well seasoned. The restaurant itself has a very rustic vibe, with a lot of NC/antique related decorations. Didn't spend time at the bar, but might go back to try it.
