Old Hickory has a great layout and club staff and facility are fantastics. BUT the range is terrible, not maintained, can only hit irons except into a net. Also, instruction facilities are run down and if you take lessons, be prepared for a long talk about golfing and maybe 10-15 min of actual hitting balls and getting feedback. read more

Planned my Dad's celebration of life at Old Hickory and Michelle and team made the event seamless. Hosted 40+ guests, lunch buffet and brought in two of his favorite beers from NC/SC. Projector screen with a photo slide show, podium with mic for speakers and plenty to space for guests to mingle with doors that open to the patio overlooking the course. Wrapped up the celebration with a 9-hole best ball tournament. Thank you OHGC for a memorable day just the way Dad would have liked. read more

My first time at Old Hickory. They have a really nice clubhouse and pro shop. This place is setup for event rentals. Bar service was good with sports on the TVs. The starter advised it was cart path only because the course was wet, this was definitely true in spots during our round. This a rolling course with deep fairway bunkers and challenging greens. The rough was rough. It was a fun round that took about 4.5 hours. They do need to have better course maintenance because the tee boxes were in bad shape, fairways could be better maintained and some of bunkers and bunker rakes were in terrible condition. The beverage cart made regular appearances during our round. It's a fun course and I would like to try it again with better conditions. read more

Uneven roughs and rough splotchy greens with aging infrastructure under poor unwelcoming management.

In addition to a nice golf course, the club house is a nice venue for events, which we attended for about 200+ folks. There is a very nice bar with just about any drink you would like from wine to hard liquor. Tables can be setup for up to 10 persons per table. The food was served buffet style and it was pretty good. The beef was probably the most flavorful and the chicken was ok. It seems chicken is always hard to serve moist in a mass quantity. The Cesar salad was really good with lots of dressing. The bread was really soft and tasty. The decorations of the place is pretty nice and classy. You also can't beat the view from the balcony, i.e. a beautiful golf course. There is ample parking too. Plus the staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Without a doubt, this was the worst golf course dollar for dollar. Tee boxes are horrible. Fairways are disgusting. Bunkers may be the worst on the East coast. The greens were as smooth as an eighth graders pimply face. The only reason I gave it two stars was because it was a nice view on the 7 holes I played before leaving. Oh, and the pace was a death march. 20 minutes per hole while waiting every shot and every tee box. read more

Went to an event and the venue was nice! However, I believe she was the manager for the event (Robin), was VERY rude! She wasn't helpful at all and kept having rude or condescending comments to some of the guests! All the staff were friendly except Robin and one of bartenders, an older gentleman, who was also rude. I would have given this place 5 stars because everything else was great but as a person who has worked in the hospitality business, someone of that stature should not be a manager. I know my friend had spent a lot of money for the event and the attitude and snarky comments she was giving was really uncalled for and I would've expected better customer service. read more

Hate to say it about my old home course. But I won't be back there until I start to hear some good things about this place. Went and played today and it's been 1 possibly 2 years since, I played there. And I play a lot .So paying over hundred dollars is no issue. But this place isn't worth 65.00 dollars right now. Tee boxes are horrible fairways are horrible rough is poor bunkers terrible , greens need saving. This course needs saving. I hate to give this review.. Fix this place and we will come back. I've played in at least 8 Arc of Greater Prince William golf tournaments here. I've played here with friends. I've spent thousands of dollars at this spot. So, imagine my surprise when I take my special needs daughter up there.....offer to pay FULL greens fees for 2 people just to drive her around on a cart for half an hour. Not play...just drive her around on the cart, I was willing to pay close to $200. They said no. Shame. If I could select no stars, I would. read more

This course is a disaster. Players are crammed on the course on the weekends. My foursome was on four occasions hit into by threesome behind us. Group behind us didn't care and no marshal to be found on the course. Greens are torn up and sand traps are overgrown with grass. Tee boxes are devoid of grass. Old Hickory is a sad example of a neglected and mismanaged course that could be a gem. Someone save this place! read more

An incredible wedding venue! Hosting our reception at Old Hickory was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day! The entire staff was so helpful, kind and proactive. Michelle and Diane were extremely helpful in each part of the planning process as well as on top of every day of detail. They were so thoughtful and brought us around to different photograph locations on their grounds as well as ensuring we were always well hydrated! The venue is gorgeous, well maintained and our guests had the best time. The whole event was a huge success. I cannot recommend enough! The all inclusive pricing was one of our favorite parts here and it made budgeting and planning for our number of guests SO EASY! read more

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The pace of play is unacceptably slow. It took 3 hours to finish 9 holes, and was only able to play 15 holes, in FIVE HOURS! The Marshall was asking if it was slow behind us. That doesn't even make any sense! The club house is nice, but the fairways are beat up. The bunkers should be GUR. I won't be playing this course again, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's a shame because the layout is pretty good. read more

This place has definitely gotten better since my last review. There are still a ton of divots that need to be filled on many holes, otherwise the conditions were good. The greens were also running slow when I played them. They had been punched recently so those could be related. Layout is still good but I still am not a fan of the 200 yard range, but I'm glad they turned it around. One thing that irked me: after I presented a prepaid coupon to play, the guy at the shop seemed really irritated at me for using it. Everyone I met on the course was very friendly and helpful (including a nice woman that brought over free water on a 95 degree day), but getting scolded at 7:15 in the morning was not my idea of fun. read more

I am very disappointed and a bit sad to have to do this because Old Hickory has been one of my absolute favorite courses in the NoVA, but it is really bad out there on the course. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, fringe, and worse yet the greens were all in terrible shape. Pace of play was 5+ hours - waited on almost every single shot - and there seemed to be ZERO interest from the course to help nation a decent pace of play. I cannot think of a scenario where I would go back and pay $80+ to go thru that again. I hope that within the Raspberry Mgmt Group there is someone who can assist this course in getting up to the standards of Bull Run, Raspberry Falls or even Blue Ridge Shadows. read more

Played today. The course is in bad shape. In large areas on each fairway there's no grass, although it looks the bare wispy parts have been visited by the slit seeder, there are parallel grooves sliced into the ground. Still it will take time to recover. As has been noted, some of the tee boxes are ratty and burned out, while others have better coverage. Overall it looks as if the tee boxes and fairways were hit by fungus. The bunkers were thinly covered, rocks and pebbles in among the sand. Greens were in decent shape except the fringes also suffered burnout. Also - I know not many courses invest in the cart paths, but the rough and un-maintained condition of those added to the overall sense of decay. Sad to see these courses that used to be so grand descend to such a sorry state. We had $60 coupons for the round, but would never pay the rack rate at this point. Maybe in the spring. read more

I like the course layout a lot, but it might finally be time to move it off our rotation. A few weeks ago they called me a couple of days before my tee time to tell me they could no longer honor it as they had a tournament and they needed the tee time back. They gave me a 2 for 1 (which I can't use on Fri-Sun mornings), which isn't massively usefel for me. I returned last week to play on a Friday - we were off at 7am and at 9am we can into a tournament at the 9th - 2 groups stacked up on the tee box. The back nine was so slow, in the end we had to walk off the 17th after 4hrs 50 mins. No communication/heads up about the tournament. It's a shame as I like the course, but I don't have time to deal with that given I only get to play a couple of times a month. read more

Poorly managed. Seems to be a theme with the Raspberry Group. For top dollar there were no balls on the range to warm up.... this was at 9:30am and the course had been open for hours. I had to walk out onto the range to gather 8 extremely beaten up range balls. There were more cut up balls than usable ones. Why aren't the cut balls just thrown away? Course was in particularly poor condition. This is not surprising since no one seems to repair divot marks on the greens. Fairways were in bad shape. This is exacerbated by the fact that the sand bottles on the carts are empty as well as there being no sand to fill divots on par 3 tee boxes. A number of the traps are full of weeds or lacking sand altogether. There seems to be no effort to take care of the course but they will charge $92 for a round. Pace of play was OK which is more than I can say of the 5 and a half hour round at Raspberry 2 months ago. I won't be returning to any of this groups courses because it's clear they don't care about their guests' experience.....just their cash. I recommend staying clear of Old Hickory. There are just too many other options. read more

I have lived in the area for 6 years and have wanted to play this course for a while. I wish I waited longer. The course itself is challenging and I really liked the overall design, but the greens and the fairways were ate up. I felt like I had to apologize for the condition of the course to my dad and brothers who were in town from back home in Michigan, I was embarrassed, and I wasn't even the one who chose to play there or paid! Extremely overpriced for the state the course was in. Staff was courteous so that's a plus. There are much better courses in the area that are a fraction of the price, but if you enjoy being disappointed and don't mind throwing good money away this might be the course of your dreams. read more

I have been playing golf since I was 10 years old and have to say this was the worst experience from the course conditions to the staff. They are charging full price 82.00 for 18 on a week day and the entire course is under repair. The traps, the fairways the tea boxes and the overall condition of the daily Maintenance of the flower beds, stair cases to the greens are not being kept up. Also the staff did not inform us to the conditions when we checked in and when we shared this with another person who have played there they said the staff was rude and confrontational because they used a gift card from a tournament they played there. The cart began to die on 15 and I was told when I called into the club house that as long as it is not bucking we should make it to 18. Well we got to the middle of the 18th green and the bucking began. Had to leave my 85 year old father on the course to buck to the club house and as I came into the club house was reprimanded that I was pushing too hard on the gas pedal without offering any help. Then after getting my father from another cart I found from the 18th green I went to get the car and watched the two bag boys watch him struggle with his bag and I had to ask them to help him get his bag off the cart and bring it to my car. Of course this 85 year old man tipped these young men who were never trained to help the patrons of the course. I will and anyone who has played here that does not have membership will ever play it again. So sad because I live in the neighborhood but Pohick is so much better of a course and experience. read more

Played this course again today, and for the love of Christ... PUT A RANGER OUT ON THE COURSE!!!! We get to the first tee after being sent out early by the starter at the clubhouse. But when we get there, there are three groups in front of us. And there was no other starter out near the first tee (the first hole is no where near the clubhouse). What the hell? After waiting 30 minutes to tee off, we finally got the round underway. It was a little slow, but nothing terrible. But then we came to the tenth tee and find out that not one, BUT TWO foursomes just went to the tenth tee and jumped ahead of everyone and played the back nine. I called the proshop to report what was going on (I had the pleasure of spending 18+ minutes on the 10th tee), and they said that they have not sent anyone off 10 all day and would get a ranger out there ASAP. Now you should ask me if I saw a ranger--hint: I did not. It took 5:15 to play 18 holes. This place really needs to get their act together. It's a great course, but course management of golfers, starters and rangers--if they actually exist--ain't worth a damn. Oh, and on a beautiful, late-summer Sunday, I should see the beverage cart more than once, especially when I am out there 5-plus hours. read more

The course was in great shape, each hole is unique and beautiful. However plane and simple, this course is just way too challenging for the average golfer. You miss a fairway, you lose your golf ball, you miss a green, you lose your golf ball. You notice how every review mentions a slow pace of play, that has nothing to do with management or golfers not playing ready golf, it's because everyone spends the whole darn day looking for their golf ball. Point in case, hole 18 is 630 yards up hill on one of the narrowest fairways I've seen on public courses in the region. I am a big fan of Raspberry Golf Management, but this course is just unnecessarily unforgiving. I would not recommend this course to an average golfer like myself. Looking for a more enjoyable outing, head over to a much more enjoyable course, Bull Run. read more

Although I liked the layout of this course it is definitely chewed up. Divot marks everywhere with inadequate sand/seed in the carts to fix yours or any of the thousands more. Even more surprising, no sand/seed on the tee boxes! Another thing that really irked me was the lack or yardage markers. I never saw a 100 yd marker once. On a scale of 1- 10 for distance indication this place is a 3 at best. Being a former caddie this sort of thing seems like a no brainer. There is nothing wrong with the staff however the lack there of was noticeable. They need a mean old ranger to push the notorious pace of play along. Overall I would say Old Hick has nice facilities, nice carts, nice staff but the fact that divot bombs littered every hole, the serious lack of yardage markers, and the pretty slow pace of play will keep me away from this course again. read more

I have played Old Hickory for numerous years and always find the course enjoyable to play. The pace of play can be horrible and the range is a mess, but the course conditions and quality of the staff make up for it. The course is much too hard for most amateurs and there are way too many white stakes. Plan on a long day! Old Hickory has always had a very good grill with a menu that provided food items for lunch. Today, Sept. 14, the menu was minimal and the food was horrible, below bar food grade. Quality is missing and the course looked unkempt. Demand quality from this establishment. read more

This is an excellent location for all kinds of formal events. The staff are excellent. I highly recommend looking into this place for any major events. The building is decorated really well. There is ample parking for large events and plenty of leftover room for a limo to park. We had our wedding at Old Hickory Golf Club. Everyone said the food tasted amazing. We had an open bar with premium liquor and when they ran out of Southern Comfort, Robin arranged to purchase additional bottles from the ABC store which made our guests very happy. Michelle helped us select the appetizers, entrees, etc. The coconut shrimp appetizer is to die for. She also helped us with coordinating the cake, DJ and photographer and layout. The entire staff was exceedingly helpful and they accommodated all of the dietary restrictions. read more

Six hour round. Another stacked nova course. If you have a week, great place to spend it on a round of golf. I understand that it rained and it's cart path only, but to get to the starter and it looks like a golf cart convention is not right. It wasn't the cart path only, but the tournament they booked in the morning that I'm sure ran long. They were nice enough to start us on 16, 16 through 18 were open, but by the time we got to 1 there were was a foursome in the fairway, a foursome on the green, and a foursome on the tee box. I had to watch about 60 shots before we could tee. The course is really nice, clubhouse is great, etc., but I went there to golf and spent the day sitting in a cart. read more

The course is usually maintained well. Clubhouse is nice and has good food. Pro shop prices are competitive. Most things about this course are nice. Now for the less "good" Driving range is quite a bit away from the clubhouse as is the first hole. Rarely are there marshals to manage pace or first tee. People drive their carts places they shouldn't. People also play on holes they shouldn't. Add a couple marshals. read more

A nice course that was still in good shape even though it was the middle of November. The greens were like putting on ice, but it made your shot selection quite challanging. It has a nice feel being in the middle of a community, although I'm not sure how much the houses liked being pegged by balls. I would give this a higher rating, but this being the second time playing there, it always seems like pace of play is an issue. I realize that the Groupons are out, so there are people playing there that would not normally play a $90 course, but this past weekend was ridiculous. Teed off at 12:30pm, and just finished 15 at 5:00pm. Considering the time of year, it was too dark to continue. Several calls to the clubhouse were met with "we'll look into it". And the one time we saw a ranger, he said there was a backup around hole 14 but it should move quicker. A few hours later, we were waiting on a par 5, with a group on the green, one in the fairway, and one in the teebox. Horrible. Slow play is expected, but management that doesn't seem to care takes this off the list of playable courses. read more

Old Hickory was the perfect venue for our wedding! We met with Michelle a couple of times before the wedding and every time she was an absolute delight to work with. She was professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Diane, Old Hickory's day of wedding coordinator, was also pleasant to work with and highly organized. You can tell they have both been doing this for years. The waiters, waitresses, and bartenders at Old Hickory were simply fantastic. They were full of energy and enjoyable people to be around. Everyone really worked together like a well-oiled machine. Both the ceremony and wedding were flawless!
