How I heard of this place: My friend, Marc introduced me to this place a few years ago, when I was looking for a Mediterranean establishment that blew others out of the water. The garlic sauce, here, he claimed, made all other Mediterranean restaurants pale in comparison! Type of cuisine: "Authentic Middle Eastern cuisine - influenced by traditional family recipes." Having been around since 1982, this father and son establishment serves everything from shawarma to mishwi, kafta to shish tawook, and everything served in large portions, full with flavor and spice. Ambiance: A small space, bedecked with mirrors on both of the side walls to create a feeling of bigness. Ten two twelve tables for parties of two to eight are available for seating. Wooden, backed, dark chairs accompany glass-topped tables, offering a bottle of wine adjacent to the salt and pepper shakers. Triangle-shaped, black napkins host silverware. The space is bustling, full and a line often reaches out the door and onto the small patio space in the strip-mall location. Full of people, efficient servers and even quicker bus-boys, the chairs are almost never empty for long. What I ordered: In the past, I've sampled appetizers like the spinakopita ($9.95), baked filo stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, served on homemade drained yogurt, garnished with feta, fresh basil, crushed mint and oregano. On this venture, of the four of us dining, two sampled the hummus ($6.50), mashed garbanzo beans with spices and an abundance of tahini sauce. The hummus was served soon after our complimentary (with the purchase of each entree) green lentil soup, with carrots and garlic arrived, accompanied by warm, thin pita, enough for each of us in our party. Having been the only one who had previously dined at the Mediterranean Kitchen, I warned my dining companions of the size of each meal, offering to share with others, as necessary. Two chose to share the lamb shawarma ($18.95; an additional $4.95 for shared plates), lamb tenderloin marinated in a mixture of Mediterranean spices cooked with onions, green onions, red cabbage and tomatoes, served with tahini sauce (hummus), and a plate of rice. Between the other two of us, I was prepared to share, but my dining companion preferred to take leftovers home, so we each ordered our own meals. I selected my favorite, shish tawook ($15.95), charbroiled chicken breast tenderloin marinated in garlic, lemon juice, herbs and spices, served with rice and hummus. And he felt most drawn to the kafta kabob ($14.95), three sizzling skewers of extra lean ground meat mixed with parsley, onions and spices, charbroiled with tomatoes and onions, served with rice and hummus. To end the meal, we had one order of sweet Turkish coffee, minus the fine grounds, which we attempted to read at the end of the delicious and flavorful meal. What I loved: I love the garlic sauce that is poured over each of the meat dishes! I most loved the charbroiled chicken, juicy, well marinated and grilled to perfection. My dining companions each preferred their own meal most, which aided in creating a very happy dining party! Why I loved it: The selection is great, the staff and service efficient and quick, the food plentiful and the prices reasonable. Went back here again to try another dish. Service is always good here. It's funny how one day restaurant food might taste awesome and then the next time it's just ok. The food here is good but I found it to be a touch too salty this time around. I ordered a veggie plate instead of meat and it was similar to the meat dish just no meat. I tried this restaurant over the weekend, and I'm so glad I did!! It's the best Mediterranean food in the Seattle area. I ordered the farmers dish with wings and a side order of baba ganoush. The food portions are definitely quite large and worthy of the price! You are paying for quality and quantity. The wings were grilled to perfection, and I love that garlic sauce poured on top. I also love the rice and spice blend added to the wings. I was also super happy with the baba ganoush. It is a large portion. I also loved that the host substituted pita with cucumbers and tomatoes at no extra charge. I appreciate it when restaurants help to accommodate you because of dietary restrictions. I cannot wait to bring my parents here and try more dishes on the menu. Don't be discouraged because of the price. We had high hopes ordering from here but the portions are really because they put more rice and mostly onions and bell peppers and very little meat. We ordered the beef and lamb shawarma. My friend says that this place is one of the best places to eat in the Washington area. He wasn't kidding. I've had med food at home, but this place was great. I'm so satisfied, you can see my comment card in the pictures I posted. The service, the food, everything is really good. We stopped by for lunch, and my friend warned me that the portions were big. I was really hungry and thought he was over exaggerating. Boy was I wrong. I couldn't finish my meal. I ordered the 3 kabob combo. You get chicken, beef, and this ground beef thing. Add some saffron rice and a gigantic serving of hummus, and you got yourself a great lunch. The meat is really tendered, and well seasoned with flavors. It's so yummy, and the hummus really kicks it off. The service is great too. The owner or manager kept checking on us, ensuring we enjoyed our meal. Small touches like that is what made the perfect rating for me. The med kitchen was a complete dining experience, and I really enjoyed it here. I'm trying to read all the reviews to see if anyone else found their food too salty, but I guess it's just me. I'm usually one for sour, savory flavors that give my taste buds a kick, but Mediterranean Kitchen brought it to a whole new -- almost unbearable -- level. I felt like my blood pressure was shooting through the roof eating there. When my friend's salad came out first, he asked me, "Try this salad. Is it just me of is just overly salty?" I tried it and did feel like it was too salty, but I played it down and teased him about being too used to a stem-vegetables-only diet that he can no longer handle anything with flavor. Then my combination plate came. (I asked the waiter what the popular/favorite dishes are, so he recommended getting a "sample" of all of their signature ones: kafta kabob, shish tawook and lamb shawarma in the combination kabob dish.) I had a spoonful and I couldn't continue eating. It was much too salty. I ended up chewing on their pita bread for the rest of dinner because that was the only thing without an overwhelming taste. I have to agree that this is the best Mediterranean food in Bellevue, though I'd suggest crossing the bridge to get the same kind of cuisine with better quality at a better price at Shawarma King. Thank goodness I live three blocks away from the latter! I give them two stars for friendly and prompt service, as well as the quiet, dimly-lit interior that gave it a semi-romantic, semi-intimate ambience. OK. It's now been a week since I went to Mediterranean Kitchen and I just finished the last of the leftovers. Their portions are HUGE. Ginormous. I personally think it might be too big but as far as value is concerned, you are definitely getting more than you paid for. If you remember nothing else, know that their yogurt sauce covering most entrees is the most delicious sauce I've ever had in my life. It is so creamy and I was licking my fork to get every last bit. I was a big fan of the Grandfather's recipe chicken wings and the shish tawook (think that's how it's spelled). The rice they have under the chicken is soooooooo good. It must be soaked in butter or something but it was delicious. Overall, a great meal with many leftovers. I recommend going family style and getting two entrees for a party of 4 or something along those lines. Final note, a big thank you to the staff. Coming here for dinner was a good choice. Server is pleasant and the starting lentil soup is savory and light. Super refreshing! The bread that comes out is amazing with the vinaigrette-based garlic dip. And they are very generous with the bread! While waiting for my order, because of the appetizing flavor, i wolfed down the bread and dip. Once I was done, they promptly asked me if i wanted more bread. Without even asking, they brought out more dip also. The servers here have superb empathy and awareness. At the moment (I'm working on my second serving of bread) I feel extremely taken care of. When my order of the Combo came, I was already satisfied. So it was crazy that my expectations were actually exceeded! The chicken was tender; the hoagie, fresh and not too greasy; the steak (I think), superb. Also, the portions are huge. The environment is a little darker than I'd like because the window shutters are down. Bur if you tilt the blinds a little, it gets much better! Even with almost a full restaurant, the service is extremely prompt. I drink a lot of water yet my glass was never below half-full. I really wanted to love Med Kitchen. I really did. It's walking distance from my place and serves one of my favorite types of food. The service was fine, we got seated as the place was winding down (~9:15ish). We ordered a bunch of different plates (I got the lamb shawarma over rice). The food is HUGE. I mean ALL CAPS SHOUTING HUGE. I could eat one plate for 3 meals and still have leftovers. But the biggest knock against Med Kitchen is that the food just wasn't that good :(. The chicken kebabs were burned and dry, the lamb was chewy and not too tender. Perhaps we got some bad cuts, as the rest of the dishes (rice, grilled veggies) were okay. Went here for the 1st time - bought 2 Plates from Kirkland: SHISH TAWOOK & DAJAJ MISHWI, plus sides of FALAFEL & BABA KANOUJ. I know OMG is overused...but OMG OMG OMG the food was FANTASTIC. I wanted to stop after a few bites to call & tell them how amazing it was, but couldn't tear myself away. I'm actually not sure which plate was which but since I got half of each, I can highly recommend both! The chicken was tender & the sauces were truly plate-scrapingly delicious. The sides were soooo good - the falafel was the best I've ever had & dipping the pita into the baba kanouj was heavenly! Can't forget the perfect blend of flavors in the soup! The Plate servings are huge; the sides, normal. Ordering online is easy & convenient, as is pick up. This is on top of my Favorites list now. Came here for lunch on a Saturday. First one's to arrive so we had the whole place to ourselves which was great! I ordered Farmer's Dish which was marinated wings served with yellow rice and garlic sauce. Absolutely loved it! My husband ordered Lamb Shawarma which he loved as well. Peak time service can be slow, but they wont tell you how slow, ETA is far off, so be ready. Also always order one item less than the number of people you are with - huge portions they serve! I have been going to Mediterranean Kitchen for some time, I have been to the other various locations before most closed (Queen Anne, Lynwood & First hill). My usually go to dish is the farmers dish. The wings are marinated in a flavorful garlic sauce. (Beware you'll have a garlic breath/fingers for the rest of the day lol). The hummus and rice are so good. So glad that we dined here tonight. My cousin and I are visiting from California and we couldn't decide what to have for dinner. So we chose this restaurant. It was packed indoors at 8:00pm on Sunday night. We opted for an outdoor table because it was a warm night. They have a wonderful menu! We chose tabouly and Kibby ( a football looking dumpling) served with the most tasty yogurt, tomato, basil topping. For our main we shared the Farmer's Dish( Chicken entree (perfectly seasoned chicken wings on a bed of rice pilaf and a side of hummus). It was all delicious! Second visit to Mediterranean Kitchen - first time my wife and I were invited as part of a birthday dinner for a fellow foodie. This time I suggested it as a dinner option to some out-of-towners visiting on business. We're friends as well as industry colleagues and I wanted some place less expensive but a little different. After comparison to the fondue place in Bellevue this was easily the winner on price and I actually prefer the atmosphere to the smaller and less flashy restaurant than a national chain Keg-like interior. The food here honestly isn't wild or special in a way that makes your mouth water days later while reminiscing. It's good, but I think that a testament to the not-great is that the plate and portion size is Texas all the way and had I loved it I wouldn't have gone home with three meals of leftover (just from my dish!) Had I loved it I would have rolled out with only two meals carried homeward. It's a fun place, with nice wait staff and a relatively inexpensive menu that isn't run-of-the-mill in Seattle, so definitely worth a try. Keep your expectations in check and bring a large appetite or be the sort of person that savors the value in massive leftovers that warm well. read more

This may be my favorite restaurant of all time! The food is ridiculously good. We usually order takeout, but sometimes eat at the restruant. In the summer they have outside seating. The chicken Sharma is great!!! All meals eaten in include lentil soup, garlic dip and pita bread. They also have a garlic sauce which is fabulous. I buy this by the bottle. Califlower appetizer is a favorite of ours. I highly recommend the farmers chicken wings, oh my gosh I could live on these. My husband loves the Dajaj Mishwi. We love Mediterranean cuisine and these guys knocked it out of the park. The restaurant was filled and full of energy, which the locals say is always the case. Our wait staff was charmingly friendly and helpful. We started with the mezza tray, for a chance to try a portion of a variety of appetizers. Every last morsel of this plentiful plate was devoured. The lightly fried zahrah was a soothingly warm and sweet cauliflower topped with a cool and zesty sauce and we loved to smoky baba kanouj. We enjoyed the shish tawook and chicken shawarma. The portions were generous and we dined until we could not possibly take another bite. It was so good, our leftovers were our dinner that evening. We would love to take Mediterranean Kitchen back to Utah with us, but until that happens, we will be making a reservation during our next trip back to the Seattle area. read more

We ended up having a to-go box. This is more of a pop-and-mom style restaurant. My hunt for good mediterranean/lebanese/shawarma continues, sadly. Stopped in here for lunch. Got the chicken shawarma and a side of tabouli. Total was about $25. A good touch was they brought me a small bowl of soup while I waited for the food (the chicken shawarma meal also came with soup, which they included in my to go order). Portions were quite large, but the chicken was simply not that good. The flavor wasn't there. Same with the rice. And for the tabouli ... I threw out more than half of it. It was like a pile of mush instead of the fresh, fluffy salad that is supposed to be made fresh. Flavor balance was off between the olive oil and lemon juice. Yes, although the portions were large, the flavor simply wasn't there to justify returning. My quest continues. read more
