Starting with the cocktails they nailed it. I have had martinis at countless restaurants (perhaps I am a lush) and their vodka martini was perfect - I mean like I make them at home. Then came the appetizer that my mother in law ordered.... cheese fritters- they were breaded mac and cheese bombs with a honey mustard dipping sauce that was to die for- no word of a lie. Next was the main.... I had a 10 oz. ribeye that wasn't 10 ounces.... it was more like 15 ounces- it was huge but it was cooked perfectly medium rare and perfectly seasoned - this wasn't just good, this was Montreal good... amazing food all around. But I think the service was the kicker.... our servers took the time to talk to us, explain the menu, ask people what they liked and were simply wonderful... I wish all restaurants had staff like this. Bottom line - if you're in this part of Ontario, go to Hobarts..... you will be blown away.

I ordered a dry vodka martini (with a twist) with grey goose, it came sweet and with Smirnoff. A second try got me the grey goose but sadly it was again sweet and I didn't have the heart to send my drink back a second time fearing it might return with a human body fluid in it. The plastic straw was a nice touch too. I started with a Caesar, no croutons, it was a salad....that came with croutons. Followed by the Poke and Carpaccio. The Poke was bad, it tasted like it was 2 days old, places on a piece of nori that was soaked in 'tuna juice'. I sent it away. The carpaccio was salted into oblivion, no olive oil, no green to cut the richness, 4 crackers....just overall bad. The wine list reads like a gas station liquor store. No bubbly by the glass. No light reds. I guess I'll just have these two previously frozen rolls instead of edible food or drink. Overall I'm disappointed and I guess I should have known better, however, when in Rome. I am so thankful to the Yelpers for the photos and reviews. The curry chicken roti was delicious but the true star was the steaks. I asked the young man behind the counter, what steaks had the best marbling that day. He suggested the strip loins / NY Strip. This is not a cut I usually buy, but they did look GOOD. So I picked out a couple, and also a couple tenderloins, because they looked like they had a bit of marbling. Hubby grilled them up the next day and we were amazed at the tenderness and flavour of all the steaks but especially the NY Strips. Absolutely the best steak we have ever had at home. In fact, better than most steaks we have had at restaurants! I have always been a fan of small businesses, and Happy Mango has the heart, quality and customer service that makes for loyal customers. Even though it's a 30 minute drive, no question, I will be making the drive to Happy Mango any time we want steak, and the bonus is we get roti for lunch that day!
