Back in the hometown after a decade (possibly more) to tour my oldest through UMM. This place was off the radar for me as a teenager and I've never been. Service was good. The vibe was a little like we were on display - lots of "who is that" stares from other tables which was weird - you can tell it is a place that caters to a lot of regulars. I wanted to try the brisket but they were out. Got the ribs instead - very good. Loved the BBQ sauce. Kid got onion rings (solid) and the salad bar, which you could tell was ready to be closed - picked over but she got what she wanted. Surprised that they had a couple of solid craft beer options. Service was extremely slow. We were a party of four and had arrived before several other tables, and we were very last to get our food. We arrived early, about 5:30. My steak was over done; ruined. We ordered the New Year's Eve special, so it should have been quicker and better tasting. It was a special that was supposed to come with cheesecake as part of the deal. But because our food took so long to come, the dessert was gone when we were ready for it. Instead of cheesecake that we had been promised as part of the special, we got a small cup of soft serve ice cream. Very disappointing. Would not have ordered the special if we had known we wouldn't get the cheese cake. Also, people stared at us when we walked in, and stared at us when we got up to go the bathroom. We were at the Old #1 tonight, Feb. 1, 2020 at 7pm. We ordered our appetizer at 7:10 and it arrived at 820... we ordered the "Supreme Nachos" so it wasn't hard to put together. The whole plate was $12 something and consisted of chips, meat, cheese, a handful of tomatoes in chunks, and two jalapeños slices (no lettuce, olives, salsa, sour cream, onions, or anything else on a supreme...) I will say the bartender apologized for being "busy" see pic... the taco meat on the chips waS actually tasty but we won't be going back. read more

Adequate. The food is very average. A pretty wide menu which I am very suspect of. Hard to imagine the steaks, Mexican, Greek and Japanese food are all that good. We stuck to basic bar food, a burger, chicken sandwich, wrap and pizza. It was all ok, fries were cold. Two stars for food. Four stars for friendly service. Old number one has some of the best food I've ever had and the customer service is amazing

I had the brisket sandwich and it was fantastic. There was a tasty crust on the brisket just like it's supposed to have. They tossed it in the perfect amount of tasty BBQ sauce but the sandwich would be just as good without it. My only regret was getting the salad bar. It was very slow people wise in there and the items needed attention. You could tell by looking at them that they should have been removed because nobody had touched them for some time. There was also not much of a selection either. On the plus side again, the service was good and the staff were very smiley. read more

I'm hoping to bring it up to 3 stars here... Old Number 1 is a place that I don't mind bringing the kids for lunch or dinner. We even have business meeting here from time to time- their Lunch buffet is actually really good (although I don't typically see too many people ordering it). The staff is friendly- they'll throw Grenadine in your soda if you ask for it and keep the refills coming (usually). The food is average- but consistent. I've never had sub-par food here. The burgers are well sized, and you get lots of fries. Again- only 3 stars because the food is average to just above- but this place really is worth going to. read more

Stopped by the establishment during the fair on a Saturday around 6:00pm. Although there was hardly a soul in there, service was slow. It took us 35 minutes to get a pizza and burger. The Diet Coke in the gun was FLAT. The server was terrible. She never checked on us to see if everything was okay - it wasn't. No napkins with the appetizer nor plates. We had to go and get our own refills at the bar because she was busy hiding in the back. I think any time I see a "Cooks Wanted" sign, I will be aware from now on. Food was okay. Too much BBQ sauce on pizza. Burger was good though. Funny thing - we are great tippers but this missed the mark. Sorry guys. read more

The best thing I can say about the Old No 1 is that is has great history on its menu and the parking lot is big. Please don't think for more than minute that this is anything other than a bar that serves food. I'm going to guess that if you're in Morris when the college is in session the Old No 1 is a hopping joint. Our server was slow and far more interested in talking to her friends a booth over, than in waiting on tables. I ordered an ice tea and asked for an artificial sweetener, and she asked me what that was. Really, am I the only person who has ever asked. I ordered Nachos Supreme and my son had a burger [like I said bar food]. The nachos were pretty good, very spicy and it's a big plate. My son said the burger was good, but the fries where just what you get from the freezer at home. Anyhow this cost us $29. I wasn't thrilled and know I won't be returning here when I visit Morris in the future. read more

I'm not a picky eater nor is my buddy who was with for supper this evening. This food was horrible. I had the gyro which had dry tough meat, cucumber sauce was not only lacking initial flavor, but had a horrid aftertaste. wings were from what I can only imagine as a sparrow, buffalo sauce was very plane, blue cheese dressing cheap and oily. Friend had the famous fish tacos which he couldn't finish eating because they were so dried out. My sweet potato fries were cold like out of the fridge cold. Over the course of 2 nights, we got the same.server and she left our table without asking for refills and ignoring our party. This place is overpriced for the food choices 'not many in the area' and to get bad service on top was ridiculous. At least if you overcharge, be nice and deliver service. Came here for dinner. The menu is extensive, from appetizers to dessert,wraps, burgers, salads, sandwiches, soup, dinners and combo meals. I ordered the hot ham and cheese sandwich with fries. Meh. All our Food was bland. And i mean all. From the Burger being over cooked to fries that tasted like I made in the oven at home. No matter the salt or ketchup, they still were boring. Beer cheese soup and chicken ranch wrap needed more love as well. The atmosphere was awesome and staff was good. Just wasn't impressed with the food for the price. Good atmosphere, great food, beer is cold, plus 15 different tap beers, decor is awesome always something to look at, big flat screen TVs and free popcorn! Our Kiwanis club meets here and the meals over the years have been great! Because of that we also come for supper and love the food.

Our duck hunting group brought in the local farmers (who we rent the local slough from) to a complimentary dinner at your restaurant. The salad bar was anemic; no tomatoes (at this time of year????) and the cucs had a bad taste; the outer tissue on the cucumbers was clear and almost told me that they had been frozen. The greens were white. I should not have to tell you that greens should be predominantly green. When my husband got our pizza, I cannot tell you how disgusting it was. Who wants three inch diameter slabs of fatty brisket on a pizza?? Who wants a half gallon of BBQ sauce on it? I have to tell you that my husband will eat a whole pizza no problem, even a Red Baron or Totinos and think it is absolutely delicious; plus he came in famished after hunting all morning and afternoon. He is not picky. But even he could not eat two pieces of that pizza. and he literally choked that one down (as I did). We brought 80% of it home and divvied it up between our chickens and dog. Seriously. The man who sat next to me (who we were treating) and who I had to cut up his steak (since he is missing an arm), quietly complained that his steak was cold. I then proceeded to cut up his potato which was so underdone as to be as about as tough as undercooked steak. The man who sat across from the one-armed man complained that his steak was cold and his potato was underdone. Did you get a new incompetent cook? We paid a ton of money to have a nice dinner for the local farmers and it was such a disappointment. I for one will inform the hunting club that if they bring a grill and a cooler, I will make them all a better meal than your restaurant provided------for free!!!! I hope to the goads that I do not have to go there again. I just tag along as a hunter wife, but I would rather go hungry with a pack of crackers and cheese than be exposed to your gross food again. read more
