Twice a year it is open for tours, including some of the private residences. We just enjoyed the Holiday 2025 tour. The public rooms on the ground floor are indeed grand, including an ornate staircase and cage elevator requiring an attendant. There's a ballroom also. There's a stately verandah that extends the length of the building, and peaceful gardens with a fountain. The bridge that extends from the building to Raymond Ave. used to go across Raymond to the Hotel Green. There are 7 floors with floors 2-6 housing private apartments. On the 7th floor is a rooftop patio and a privately owned penthouse. It was open for the tour--it's a large loft-like space with windows facing every direction. Several of the apartments on the lower levels were also on view; the individual owners were so kind to open their homes to strangers on these tour days. The apartments vary in size, with the larger units on the south side of the building where there are circular turrets. Even more varied were the way the owners decorated their units. The owners of most of the units were clearly interested in art and architecture. Styles seen included Asian, Mid-Century, Arts and Crafts. Some kitchens were petite, with smaller appliances. Downstairs is the headquarters for the Thomas Paine Society, an advocate in the 1770's for America's independence, considered America's first radical. For the tours, there were some light bites available, supplied by Little Lily's Kitchen catering, whose place in Altadena fell victim to the Eaton fire. There was a potato leek soup, Angel biscuits, vegan chorizo tacos and Thanksgiving-ish sliders with turkey, brie and cranberry, plus hot apple cider and cookies. How fun!…read more My cousin celebrated her 40th birthday here, and I never got an exact answer as to how she came about renting out the Women's Twentieth Century Club located in the heart of Eagle Rock on Colorado Blvd. For all the time I've spent in Eagle Rock enjoying the many places to eat and visiting friends (I've even eaten at Colombo's Italian Steakhouse and Jazz across the street, and the taco trunk next door in the gas station parking lot), I always thought this was simply a house. Oh no, my friends, apparently, it's more than that! The Women's Twentieth Century Club of Eagle Rock was founded in the late 1890s, and this facility was built in the early 1910s. The Craftsman style structure is still beautiful today, and upon further review and survey of the neighborhood, truly stands out among the other homes along Hermosa Ave. You would expect this to actually be located in the older neighborhoods in Pasadena with the rest of the glorious Craftsman's. As you walk up the steps and approach the spacious porch area, you head towards the front door and instantly notice how it opens up to an auditorium with ample floor space and a stage, reminiscent of where a town hall meeting would take place in those old movies from the 20s and 30s. The high ceilings lend even more to the amount of openness found in this room. Other areas to point out are the alcove or what appeared like a separate sitting area, the full kitchen, a waiting area of sorts upon entering into the building, a small bathroom, and an outdoor area for more seating. I don't know the rental rates, restrictions, or payment method, but I'm sure you can find such information here at their official website: www.wtcc-er.org/ For this particular event, there were no facility-specific individuals as you would expect at an actual banquet hall. So, your service is whomever you hire or bring along. Parking is relatively ample as there is plenty of side-street parking everywhere. You also have Colorado Blvd., but I can't remember if there are any meters. Lastly, they do have their own minimal parking, but I recommend hitting the street parking instead. Overall, I thought the Women's Twentieth Century Club was a pretty cool building based on the historical factor alone. I'm a born-and-raised Angeleno and whenever I come across hidden nuggets of this great city of mine, it always makes me proud that someone has taken the initiative and effort to try and preserve them for future generations. I can't say for sure whether or not I would rent out this place for an event of my own, but I can certainly say that I appreciate knowing that there is such an option available. She's very personable and very talkative, but she's very knowledgeable as well. Buckle up for at least a 2 hour experience. Located in a business warehouse plaza, you'll sit together getting to know one another and get background information on Karen and Greg's life which was nice to hear. The small warehouse packs a huge punch of information you receive. You get to understand how everything works and everything that Greg makes which was fun to learn about. Once you sit down and start tasting is where the most fun starts. They provide you with some water crackers and a lesson about drinking water and hydrating. And you get to taste all of he whiskey, rum and gin they make which is a worthwhile experience.
