Each bedroom has its own bedroom, but some bedrooms are tiny and some very large. (I was given one of the large room seen in the photo.) However, this isn't the kind of place where you'll hang out in your room. There are big, comfy chairs and couches by a warm wood fireplace in the winter and tables and chairs out on the patio and front porch to sit and enjoy the view in clear weather. The breakfast that was included in it, though repetitive was fabulous and thoughtful. Bagels, cream cheese, lox, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, fresh juices, coffees and teas. We had 2 breakfasts and took the same things. Bagels, lox and cream cheese, OJ, coffee, eggs. There are a couple. of baked goods that were very disappointing. They should upgrade those definitely. The rooms were fine. We were automatically upgraded to a suite because we paid in advance and went mid-week. The bathroom was lovely, nothing to change. The hallways and rooms were a bit dated. Fresh paint, cool colors, but old. The room AC units were loud too. Was ok but wouldn't return. In the hallways there is great unusual art. Like what you would put into your own home which is cool and unusual. The colors they chose to decorate with were wonderful. But, for example, we had a painted old wooden floor with throw rugs. A bit uneven. Not something I'd ever put into our home. The grounds were very nice. It was nice weather when we were there, and we brought bathing suits but the pool was covered with leaves. They are expanding which is cool. Mass Moca is right there which is nice, and this was very centrally located which is also nice.

Unfortunately we found it to be quite dirty especially the floors and windows. It felt a bit like a prison cell to be honest. Very loud with doors slamming in the hallway. The bathroom definitely needs an update despite being billed as authentic and vintage. For the money I can't recommend staying here. Maybe the other rooms are nicer b/c we were in a pet-friendly room, but we're not heading back.

They even threaten to charge a huge fee if you smoke in your room, while the filthy housekeepers are on the street smoking every 5 minutes. Our first room hadn't even been cleaned yet. We were given a free upgrade and while the towels and sheets looked fresh- the bathroom and rest of the furniture in the bedroom hadn't been cleaned in what looks like ages. The bathroom still had dirt and popcorn on the floor. The nightstands and refrigerator had visible dust everywhere. The bathtub is peeling and can't be used. The carpet is so disgusting we didn't take our shoes off. Gross place. Too bad- nice idea. Old is ok, but clean it.

However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. The views are also great. And the breakfasts.....let me tell you about the breakfasts. Handmade by the hosts, multiple courses, all fresh local ingredients. Homemade bread and pastries, omletes with local Vermont cheese, potatoes, fresh fruits, juice, coffee....we were stuffed every morning. The only thing better than the breakfasts were the hosts themselves. Just the nicest couple you'd ever want to meet. They made themselves available for anything we needed. Donna gave us dinner recommendations and would include printed directions to the restaurants. She is so knowledgeable about all there is to do in the area. Clifford was so kind and accommodating as well. We arrived on motorcycle and he insisted on us keeping it in his garage. He also offered us his rain gear upon our departure because it was drizzling. He even followed up with us after to make sure we had arrived home safely. So in short. Beautiful accommodations. Great views. Amazing breakfast. Kind and helpful hosts. You really couldn't ask for more. I'll be staying here again for sure.
