lovely place....lovely grounds...right down the road from downtown Wilmington with it shops and restaurants..many rooms scattered throughout the house...our room (#1) was very nice with nice fixtures and appointments....lovely pool in back and firepit with plenty of seating...wonderful breakfast and nicely served....but...our room was on the highway side (rt 9) which was noisy, the heat was on in the room but maybe we hit the thermostat which was right in side the doorway but even turning off an old iron radiator means it is heating for a while, and it is August!...tv gets many many channels, however none are watchable...oh well, lovely spot , we would certainly revisit though perhaps try to get a room a little further from thew highway!!! read more

Disappointing Stay at Nutmeg Bed and Breakfast (Update: I see this property is for sale) Unfortunately, my stay at Nutmeg Bed and Breakfast in Wilmington was not what I had hoped for, especially after paying almost $250 for one night. While the hosts were somewhat polite, the service from them was mediocre at best and not too friendly. The overall experience left much to be desired. The room itself was in poor condition -- there were visible nails sticking out of the walls, as if pictures had been removed but never replaced or patched, leaving the space feeling unfinished and neglected. The carpet was noticeably dirty, which detracted from any sense of comfort or cleanliness. And the furniture was scratched up, lending itself to second hand furniture from a garage sale Although breakfast was advertised as included, there were unexpected charges: $4 extra if you wanted fruit or yogurt. This felt misleading, especially at a bed and breakfast where a hearty, inclusive meal is typically part of the charm. With the up charge on breakfast and you couldn't even bring your own beer or glass of wine in your room. You had to buy their alcohol or not have anything of your own to relax at the end of your day Overall, the property could benefit from better maintenance and more transparency around what is and isn't included. I had hoped for a cozy and welcoming Vermont experience but left very disappointed I personally would take your $250 and spend it elsewhere. read more

Lady who checked us in was very sweet. However the lobby was hot. The carpets are dirty. We were on the 2nd floor. Stairs are steep and the room could use a good painting. Paint will go a long way. Shower head was junk. Wall furnaces need painted. Shower was small. Could be a cute place if they would replace carpet and paint. read more

Cozy and welcoming! This was our first visit- we were upgraded to a suite, right off of the dining room. It was immaculate! The bathroom is dated but so clean!! The bedroom itself has been updated- very comfortable mattress, with a view of the backyard. Breakfast was beyond delicious, and yes it looks just like the photos on their website. If you want a quiet, serene and romantic getaway, you won't do better than The Nutmeg. The beautifully restored and updated farmhouse, makes this a quaint B&B with an eclectic mix of American, British and South African style. Lovingly run by Shelly and Paul, you're always greeted by a big smile and gracefully shown serene accommodations. There's a great fire pit in the back for cool evenings, a nice-sized pool and veranda, and you're only a mile from the heart of town, with its small but excellent restaurants. Shelly and Paul make sure you're comfortable and have a dedicated work area for workaholics, a game room for those who are ready to relax, a reading room for kicking back with a book, and a some lounges for chatting over some wine or beer. Try Helles, a local VT beer while you have a chance. And enjoy Shelly's excellent breakfast fare in the rough-hewn wood-decorated dining room. It's near southern VT skiing and reasonably priced. You walk in an immediately greeted with a friendly face and welcome. You can't ignore the smell of homemade chocolate chip cookies baking in the kitchen. Tea, coffee, desserts, alcohol, breakfast. This place had it all. It was my first time at a B&B so I was a bit worried. But there were no worries. Every room has their own full bathroom. The place has charm but its not dated charm. I was comfortable in room #4. I heard zero noise of any other guests staying at the inn. Quick 10-15 ride to Mount Snow and only a mile from great restaurants on Main st. We stayed at this inn after staying at the The Wilmington Inn, and enjoyed our experience so much more. Our room was great and the design, in our room, as well the public spaces is so cozy. The bed was comfy, we slept really well. Also, the breakfast sandwich was really surprisingly tasty - often times complimentary hotel food is unremarkable. We also really liked the artwork and book's showcasing important contemporary women in history, politics, and science. The owner was also very friendly. Happy to have stayed here. read more

Preface: it's arguable that this Inn is worthy of five stars if judged relative to the inns in the immediate area and the service provided. I gave it four because of those strengths, but also because there are more luxurious inns in Vermont (which are much, much more costly as well) that are really in the five-star category... I decided to do a VT 5-Mountain Classic 80-mile road bicycling ride and didn't want to drive home after, so I researched and booked a Saturday night online at Nutmeg. It was easy to find off of Rte. 100 and had ample shaded parking. Upon arrival, I looked at the grounds, but didn't see anything but a few chairs in the back yard's lawn. There may have been more to take in, grounds wise, but it wasn't apparent to me. I booked room 2 (see pictures) which was more moderately priced than their suites. Wendy and Doug were there when I checked in -- they greeted me and were super friendly and helpful. Wendy gave me an earnest tour of the property's interior. The inn, common areas, and overall environs are really charming with the Vermont colonial (country) look and feel you'd expect. Their interior had the added distinction of a good number of original, contemporary art pieces. My room was in the original structure. It was very nice. It had soft, flowery, light, and airy decor with a comfortable king bed and quality bedding. It is listed as a medium-sized room with large bathroom which was accurate for a house of that era. It was fresh, clean, and tidy. Its closet/clothing hold space is exposed and it abutted the entrance walkway, so you needed that window's shades closed if you required privacy. The bathroom is well lit and had a strong exhaust fan. I particularly enjoyed the use of the well-designed whirlpool tub which was critical for my legs after my very challenging ride. The bathroom is appointed with a hair dryer, shampoo, and bar of soap, and also a sit-down vanity. The room wasn't air conditioned, but Wendy put a small fan in the room in case I needed it. At 5:00 they offer a complimentary glass of wine which I took advantage of. The bar tender was very friendly and I had the opportunity to speak with a really nice couple from Burlington, VT in the living area. Wendy helped me with dinner reservations at the Wilmington Inn, but due to no fault of Nutmeg's, the restaurant was overwhelmed and had a lot of angry patrons, so I walked out and went to the Atlantic instead (which turned out to be a very good dining experience). At present, Wilmington is fascinating to see because its center, next to the river, was flooded and rendered a number of businesses's dwellings uninhabitable. Several businesses were shuttered including the historic tavern -- apparently not directly due to the flood, but probably due to the regional hardship. The little town is very picturesque and really looks to be making its way back. Sleep at the Inn came easily. However, of note, since it's an old house, at around 10PM someone in an adjacent room must have run a bath or similar. The sound of that plumbing running is loud and clear, but it was quite tolerable. I had no problem connecting to the wifi, which is complimentary! In the morning I used the shower and it was decent. Breakfast was excellent. I had Geo's special French toast with Vermont maple syrup and sausage. It was as fluffy and succulent as French toast can be. The dining area is quite pleasant, sunny, and had tasteful settings. I had an enjoyable conversation with a couple who was visiting Vermont for the first time from Connecticut. I departed after that. Nutmeg was a great choice for an Inn so near to the attractions of the Green Mountains' southern hemisphere. It was a good value, and I would stay there again especially knowing Wilmington is on the upswing. read more

The Nutmeg Inn is an incredible location to get away for a while and relax. This Inn is situated in a quaint area, and the staff here is incredible. When I pulled into their lot I was greeted by the owner who was extremely polite. She made me feel welcome and made sure to ask if I needed anything. At one point the vehicle I was driving died in their driveway, and the staff at the Inn helped me jump it without batting an eye. The grounds are also incredible. They were relaxing and it was nice to sit in their outdoor chairs. Overall, this is a nice Inn with a great staff. read more

I stayed here over the weekend with a friend, and it was lovely. The building in cozy and beautifully decorated, and the owner was friendly and accommodating. The ceilings are low (I'm 5'8' and could put my palm flush against the ceiling) but they have done a great job giving the illusion of height. We were running late for a morning appointment, and the kitchen staff happily packed our delicious breakfast sandwiches to go, and even threw in some granola bars. I highly recommend The Nutmeg, and my only regret is not being able to stay longer. read more

Bathroom had mold spots on the wall. Couch and rug have stains. Room I was brought to off of the kitchen hasn't been updated in 20 years+. The most MUSTY room I have ever walked into. Just left this delightfully quaint, comfortable, and clean bed and breakfast with nothing but positive things to say. My girlfriend and I just drove to Vermont with absolutely no place to stay, and Paul and Shelly provided us with some of the finest accommodations we've had for a one night stay. I'm still relatively new to the whole B&B phenomena, but I'm all-in if this is what the rest are like. The rooms are quaint, with 18th century-inspired decor, and the room I stayed in boasted a "wow-this-feels-like-home" vibe. The beds, however, aren't stiff, backbreaking ones I'm used to at home -- in fact, they're soft, fluffy and just downright comfortable. Also, in typical Bostonian fashion, I couldn't be without my standard amenities, meaning cable to watch the Sox game, and high-speed internet to keep in touch with the rest of the world. Surprisingly, I got both, whew! The service was excellent as well. Since my GPS took me to the wrong part of town (apparently almost all of these do, according to one of the owners, Doug), I called and got friendly and easy-to-follow directions to get my directionally-challenged behind to the front door. Also, since I was in town for Mudder weekend (yeah, I ran and kicked ass too!) I got a chance to sit and chat with the owners and other Mudders with a free glass of Chardonnay (whiskey, or perhaps diesel fuel may have been more testosterone-y, but hey, I'm not one to turn down free alcohol. And oh, the breakfast. French toast to die for. I'm a french-toast buff, and Nutmeg's is right up there with the best I've had. Crispy on the outside, and custardy on the inside. I'm getting hungry thinking of it right now, don't judge me. Since Nutmeg's just a 10-15 drive from Mount Snow, I think I've found my permanent lodging for future ski trips and Tough Mudder weekends. read more

Typical B&B in VT, but with a few extras. They do a wine social upon arrival in a bar area that's super cozy (with fireplace). The food is above par with unique twists on french toast, waffles and a great frittata. It's also a quiet area with direct access to hiking/snowmobile trails right out the backyard. When you come to VT, this is typical of the lodging arrangements. There just aren't many hotels in this neck of the woods. Which is great - except if you have kids or pets. Nutmeg is accommodating to both, however, we found we had to expedite our stay because of it. Barking dog and 3yr old guests tend to get a lot of attention in a well decorated house. I would recommend Nutmeg for a stay, but only caution those who might be in a similar circumstance. Brattleboro (nearest large town) offers more selection for those with similar needs. If it's just a couple though, this is a pleasant stay and the Innkeepers are very amiable. read more

Everything outside the wifi and wallpaper that appears to have been selected by someone's great great someone was amazing, not that the latter matters. The only real issue I had here is the wifi. It's useless if you plan on even streaming YouTube on the lowest quality setting that's offered. I'm not sure how it is in the rest of the establishment but if it's something you care about, don't stay in room 9. Otherwise, zero complaints. The Nutmeg is clean, cozy, warm, and friendly. It's super close to Mt Snow and some good places to grab food and drinks in town. Regarding the wifi issue, it's basically the same quality you get anytime a place has included wifi. Yes it exists, but it may as well not. I'm not sure if its half-assed on purpose for cost savings or because the person responsible for setting it up is unfamiliar with how the technology works, but it's annoying. I just want to watch some crappy videos to space out so I can go to sleep but now have to debate if I need to be the IT guy and go downstairs instead because maybe theres better connectivity. Maybe we need to check the TCP/IP settings. Crap, there I go again. Guess I'll inhale this wine so I can stop being pissy about this. Sadly not staying here again because this important to me but that's a personal preference. If it's not something you care about, this place is great. read more

This is a beautiful BnB! The staff is friendly and accommodating! The whole place smells amazing when they use the fireplace in one of the living rooms and it's very cozy. My only complaint was that our room (Room 7) was quite small and kind of wish we had chosen literally ANY other rooms and had a bigger room! (We took a peek into a few of the other empty rooms and all the others we saw were a great size.) Other than that we were so happy with everything! PLUS breakfast was soooo delicious! This is a great place to stay and eat and it's so close to downtown Wilmington! Cozy and warm plus awesome breakfast. We just had a wonderful tapas style dinner! We were a group of five and our favorites were the duck croquettes, the rib eye, the lamb meatballs, the cheese plate, the dessert pancakes and the awesome Eden apple cider. What a disappointment. We were greeted by some lady who was far from welcoming and taken to a room that should've been updated 10 or 20 years ago. A giant rug covered up hideous stains on the floor, wifi didn't connect for more than a minute, bed frame was old and ugly, water stains were on the ceiling above our bed, the nightstand seemed like it would fall apart at any moment. Sink was nasty and easily the smallest I've ever used. Breakfast was okay, but pretty small portions. I am beyond confused why there are so many good reviews for this place. read more

This inn is clean, and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast and dinner is delicious and not a typical inn meal. However, just be aware that the portions are appetizer sizes which is twice expensive since they charge it at the entree range. My boyfriend and I stayed in room 9 and had a king size bed which is awesome. Comparably, the bathroom size is tiny. I can barely fit in the shower pod, and I am super petite. When my boyfriend was in the shower, I heard him hit his elbow multiple times against the wall. Be prepared to be awaken by plumbing sounds from other rooms. The thermostat doesn't work either. Since the inn is right off the road, you could easily miss the entrance around the bend. And since its right off the road, you can hear the cars going by all night. The woman who greeted us didn't introduce herself so we don't know if she is the innkeeper, host, manager...? Decent place but unlikely to come back. read more

We reserved at room last minute at The Nutmeg for a weekend of skiing. It is conveniently located less than 15 minutes from Mount Snow. We discovered this was an old farm house that was expanded upon and then made into an inn when the mountain opened. The digs are very quaint with a modern twist! Breakfast was delicious with homemade spreads and you can ask for an early breakfast to go if you want to get skiing by 8am. A food truck is also on-site for lunch or dinner if you want to stay and dine in. Rooms were clean and tidy, and very quiet and cozy. Staff was very helpful with suggestions and welcoming. All in all a wonderful stay and we hope to visit again soon! read more

Very expensive. Told I was given a price reduction on a small room from $150 a night to $130 a night. Not worth it, I have stayed at places a lot nicer for the price. I was greeted by Jenny the owner and she was not a happy person and tried to put me in a room that was not the one I reserved because I had a service dog which is against the law. I had to fight with her about this. The room I in was over the dining room. I was woken up by guests next door at 5 am and I called Jenny to ask her to ask them to please be quiet and she told me they were checking out. Then I tried to go back to sleep and was awoken by guests eating breakfast at 7 am. My room and several like it are over the dining room which they did not tell me when I checked in. When I left in the morning which I was happy to do because it was such a bad experience I saw Jenny and I told her about being awoken by people eating breakfast below me and reminded her about being woken up by guests at 5 am and I asked her if she would take something off the room rate for my awful experience and I was told no she gave me a discount. She said its a 200 year old farm house and noises are what to be expected. So if you want to spend a lot of money for no rest go to the Nutmeg!!!! LOL. I also left my phone charger behind because I was told I had to be out by 10 am as they had a lot of guests checking in and I was rushing with my service dog to get my stuff out so I forgot it. I called her the next day and she said she had it and acted surprised when I asked her to mail it to me. She said she would. I waited and week and nothing arrived. I called again and she said she was out of town and send it yesterday. I am shocked at the complete lack customer service and just sheer kindness. read more

My wife and I returned for a second weekend this ski season. New owners, Paul and Shelly, now have their liquor license and can serve beer and wine in the bar area by a huge fireplace. Nice place to relax after skiing. They also are serving dinner now. Menu is limited, but fantastic food. Shelly does the cooking for the evening meals. We had a very creative kale, beet and goat cheese salad followed by beef bourguignon. The inn has freshly made cookies out late afternoon and evening. Breakfast is also very good with a changing selection of wonderful items. All the staff is very friendly and can make recommendations for dinning or activities in the local area. There are a variety of rooms sizes that are shown nicely on their website. The inn is just west of Wilmington (5 minutes max) and about 20 minutes to Mt. Snow. Be sure to ask about Paul's son receiving a Flying Cross from the Queen of England! We'll be back next year. read more

We stayed here over Valentine's Day and it was even better than we expected. Our room had a wood burning fireplace which we hadn't seen anywhere else. The living room was perfect with a small bar area. The owner, Doug, couldn't have been nicer. After we had a horrible experience with the snowmobile tours at Mount Snow where they stole over $200, Doug gave us a free bottle of wine. We recommend everyone visiting southern Vermont to stay there! read more

They had a customer who was staying longer and wanted the room we reserved so we were cancelled. My boyfriend and I spent Sunday night here while traveling on business and are already trying to figure out when we can go back! Doug greeted us warmly upon arrival and made sure we knew about the free wine at 5pm. Later that night, we chatted for a while with Andy, the inn keeper, who caught us up on the details of the recent hurricane and helped us choose a restaurant for dinner. We were fortunate to stay in Room 12 which included the biggest, softest, most fabulous bed I've ever slept in, an additional living room, private porch, and gorgeous bathroom. (The only questionable feature is that the bathroom wall doesn't connect to the ceiling, so privacy is somewhat lacking, although that didn't really bother us because we've been together so long.) We got to choose what we wanted for breakfast and what time we wanted to eat, and came downstairs Monday morning to a gorgeous spread of coffee, orange juice, a spinach/mushroom omelette for him and maple nutmeg french toast for me. After sitting in one of the common rooms and having another chat with Doug, we were on our way and talked about it all the way to our next stop. Overall, one of the most charming and luxurious B&B experiences I've ever had, and an incredible value for the price. read more
