One thing that you should be mindful of is the parking spots.. it's quite limited so you might have some trouble parking in the inn's parking itself but other than that, there are many restaurants in the area you can go to for dinner! Outside, the woodworking around the windows is falling apart. Inside, it's dark and deserted. No one is at the desk in the evening. The rooms literally remind me of old westerns where the iron headboard bed is sadly crowded into the room and a sink is in the corner. Rooms come equipped with old15" (?) box style TVs. VERY depressing. The prices are WAY too high for what is offered, and if you cancel - even hours after booking - they will still charge you. Beware!!!

Not being big breakfast eaters, we figured we'd grab a muffin. There was a small table that had a pot of coffee and 2 wrapped muffins on a plate. There was no other option for drinks such as tea, water or juice. There was a hostess there who seated people in the restaurant and after asking she brought us 2 bottles of water. When we took our muffins, she added 2 more to the plate. We had dinner in Champney's the night we arrived and it was very good. It was busy for a Tuesday night and the bartender never got my drink made until we were finished with dinner but they did take it off the bill. While they do clearly state that they add $15/day for tips that they split between housekeeping, the front desk staff and the breakfast staff - which I found strange as who is normally tipping the person who checks you in or the one who refills a coffee pot, I was more perturbed by the fact that on top of this they still had an envelope in the room for tips for housekeeping. I've never seen this done before where they are basically asking you to tip twice. The inn is in a lovely location and as far as historic Deerfield they are the only restaurant though Greenfield and other small towns are close by.

You either purchase from their "bar" in the lobby, or from the mini bar in the room. Neither of us are drinkers so it didn't affect us, but they charged us for a bottle of wine that we didn't take! If you want to stay there, check your charges when you get home.

Clifford was so kind and accommodating as well. We arrived on motorcycle and he insisted on us keeping it in his garage. He also offered us his rain gear upon our departure because it was drizzling. The owners were extremely accommodating to the needs of the wedding party. My wife and I spent the night and had a very quaint room. The breakfast was fantastic and more than enough. The grounds were impeccably well maintained. The views were beautiful. I found the Shelburne House to be a very relaxing and peaceful place.
