We have been back to the White House Inn for dinner a few more times since my earlier review and things have improved. The last time we went there for dinner was in late Summer after they had been closed for a while due to Covid. Eating outside in their garden was lovely and felt very safe. The menu has greatly diminished however. Of their few entrees, the pricing has increased a lot and they no longer have their more moderately priced pasta dishes that we have enjoyed in the past. We are hoping that this is only temporary and that next year after mud season things get back to a more normal situation as customers return having been vaccinated. We look forward to being able to patronize all the dearly missed restaurants in Wilmington. read more

If you are looking for a hotel for your ski trip to Mount Snow, this inn is the one for sure! This lovely hotel very near to the ski resort just takes 10 mins by car. We have stayed here for a night and it was lovely. Rooms are clean! Great complimentary breakfast, nice and friendly staff! I would definitely recommend staying at White House Inn. We haven't had a chance to have dinner here but I am pretty sure that it would be so tasty as their breakfast. read more

My husband and I stayed at The White House Inn for 2 nights in January. The place is gorgeous. When you walk in the front door everything is decorated beautifully, the foyer, the restaurant, the bar area, the breakfast room, the fireplace room just stunning. The Speak Easy room downstairs was so cool. Our room was spacious and very nicely decorated. We had all the amenities here. The location is prefect to visit downtown Wilmington, Mt Snow, Lake Whitingham, trails or anything else Vermont has to offer. We also really recommend the restaurant within the Inn, Clara's Cucina Italiana. Service was great, food was amazing. After dinner you can bring your wine in the fireplace room, down to the Speak Easy or just enjoy the bar. Highly recommend! read more

If they tell you your room is on the third floor, ask for a different room. The windows has an old roller blind that doesn't cover the whole window and is on the ceiling so you can't look out to anything. Room was small and musty smelling. We asked for another room the third day into our stay and got one on the second floor. Wow, what a difference!!! Three full sized windows, king sized bed and not one hole in the walls. The staff was very helpful & kind. Something needs to be done to update the third floor. read more

We had a very good experience. We can't give it a 5 star for a few minor reasons but I will list the pros and cons: Pros: The price seems fair($255/night). The hotel is creepy and beautiful. And by creepy I mean in all the good ways when you are looking for the experience of a somewhat untouched older building. Cons: The food. The menu had not a singly sourced item. No grass fed, no organics, etc. Also my husband tried to have the breakfast that comes with the stay and he sat for 10+ min. with no one coming so he left. Between the non-organic/non- grass fed eggs (this is Vermont, surely there are grass fed eggs somewhere) and not being attended to whilst sitting alone, we gave up and didn't have breakfast any morning, instead opting for local shops for coffee/breakfast. read more

The inn is beautiful. However, my wife and I found the general manager to be overbearing and "off the mark." As we were checking in, he blamed his employee for "making him look bad" as she helped him because he didn't know how to do it. We found that to be unprofessional as a leader, even if he was "joking." He talked over me and interrupting me as I was trying to questions about parking, breakfast, etc., which was frustrating after a long day of traveling. As we were leaving a couple days later, my wife was outside bringing our things to the car and I was bringing the key to the front desk. The manager was upstairs and asked me which room I was in and if the car in the parking lot was mine. These questions made us feel rushed and as if we were doing something wrong (we were leaving well before the check out time). Unfortunately, our memories of this beautiful inn with be tainted with reminders of the manager who had some trouble distinguishing the nuances of hospitality. read more

We went with some friends on a visit to Vermont. Our friend owns in town and visits often . We have always loved food, staff and atmosphere . On this visit we were treated rudely by the manager (Michael) . We were seated in another part of the restaurant where he banged full water glasses and silverware as he set the table . Beautiful old 18 room mansion atop a hill in Wilmington with beautiful grounds. We stayed on the second floor in Room 8 with a queen bed. The room was comfortable and the bathroom and shower was updated and looked brand new actually. The restaurant has three dining areas each with a fireplace and a bar, however it was closed the night we arrived. We were the only guests in the inn this night so we had the entire place to our self. Self check in was simple as were were provided with the code to the door in our welcome email. A nice full cooked to order breakfast was included with our stay. read more

If you get a chance, this is a must stay. There is a full bar and beautiful restraint We'd- Sun. There are many tiny shops in the town , which was lots of fun. The beds are wonderful and the property puts you back in what it must have been like in 1915. It's beautifully restored to original grandeur. Fabulous outside areas to sit and enjoy the outdoor scenery with your favorite drink. The hostess was so friendly and I can't wait to come back. read more

I ate here awhile ago when it wasn't owned by the Hermitage Club. Since the place has been bought out the Inn and restaurant area has been renovated. We ate Saturday night dinner after a day of skiing at Mount Snow. We had three very good appetizers- foraged mushrooms, scotch quail eggs and, fried pig ears- the menu options for entrees included an extensive burger menu- most of had burgers which are served in a cast iron skillet with a side of fries. 3 orders came out wrong and had to be modified. They rectified all the wrong orders promptly. Service was attentive but we were expecting more from this restaurant. It seemed too corporate compared to when we had been there in the past. read more

Stay away from this place! The new owner is miserable, unplesant, rude and only cares about making money. The White House Inn used to be beautiful, romantic, amazing and lovely when Stan Smith was the owner, but now it's awful. New owner Stacey bought the Inn and it has gone downhill fast. Stacey is unpleasant and downright rude to guests. She only cares about money and is uncomfortable to talk to. I had my wedding at this venue and picked the White House Inn when Stan Smith was the owner. If I had one more year out, I would have cancelled this venue upon meeting the new owner. She made every step of the planning unpleasant, difficult, stressful and uncomfortable. She clearly did not want to honor of Stan's previous commitments he made to us and even took out her frustration in a phone call to my fiance. We had multiple discussions where she agreed to honor certain things and when the actual day came she just changed her mind and on OUR WEDDING DAY didn't honor our contract. My groom spent a few times speaking with her at the actual reception arguing about what was supposed to be happening. It came to the point that whenever we saw her, we'd turn around and walk the other way as to avoid any discussion or interaction with her. The atmosphere of the inn is changing too. Stan put up lovely wallpaper in all the rooms and upon our return for the wedding, we found most of the rooms stipped of the wallpaper that gives the inn a very 'New England country' feel and instead painted with dark ugly solid shades. She seems to just need to strip the whole place of its previous owner whom everyone loved and adored. Stacey also recently laid off Sally, the wonderfuly nice elderly receptionist who greets guests and answers the phone. Everyone loved Sally and would use her as a buffer to speak with as she was pleasant and worked at the inn through many owners for up to 15 years. Now she has no job and might need to leave the town. She has no loyalty to Vermont, New England hospitality or grace. STAN - COME BACK AND CLAIM YOUR INN. read more

I hear tubing is back. That may be the only reason to go. This place needs help. The wait staff clearly are working there b/c of the bill prices. I went here for a birthday dinner and really had a rough time. First they gave us the wrong bottle of wine, when we mentioned it it took them about 5 minutes of convincing before they told us they were out of what we wanted. Honestly I think they were just trying to give us what they had in stock. I wouldn't have had an issue with it but they didn't present the bottle to us and just tried to open it. We stopped the server and she looked as though she was caught red handed. The manager came over and said it was the same wine. After checking the list again we explained that the $90 bottle we ordered was not going to be the same as the $35 bottle they tried pouring. We ordered something else. I will save you the details of the rest of the mishaps but suffice to say there were at least 4 other issues. We were dining with a food distributer and he pointed out that almost everything on the menu was mass produced where ever possible. In it's hay day this was probably a stunning place. This is now a go for a cocktail and a tube ride. Pun intended. read more

I recently booked a private event at The White House, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Jill, the innkeeper, has decades of experience with party planning and it shows. Every time I called or emailed her with a question, she responded quickly and accommodated all of our needs. During the party (which was a bridal shower), I was able to relax without worrying about details because she was there to help with everything. The building and grounds are an exquisite setting for any event, with a beautiful garden and spectcular view of the surrounding mountains and town. What really made the shower perfect was the delicious food! Jill and Chef Liz had given us several options for food to have, so we ended up choosing a hot buffet with rocket salad, pasta primavera, vegetables, roasted potatoes, chicken piccata, poached salmon with dill and tarragon, sliced and sirloin of beef with horseradish cream. It was all amazing and cooked perfectly - and I was definitely not the only one at the party who thought so! I can certainly recommend The White House to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy dinner or brunch spot in Wilmington. I know I will be back very soon. read more

We went for brunch and we ordered the brunch burgers. I ordered mine well done because I'm pregnant. When it came I wasn't totally satisfied with the way it was cooked, so I asked for the burger to be more "done" and they gave me a new whole plate! The popovers were a fun and delicious way to start the meal. Filet mignon was EXCELLENT! Loved the sides - creamed leaks, butternut squash puree. Can I give six stars? Beautiful victorian style boutique luxurious inn. Gorgeous views from every room and a very New England feeling to it. Service was top notch, amenities were great (except that the indoor pool wasn't heated as well as the sauna) everything else was perfection! Please, do yourself a favor and book a few night in here, anytime of the year and make sure to eat at their restaurant as the food is top notch! I told them I was a vegan and they gave me the best home fries with mushrooms I ever had in my life for breakfast! And an amazing vegetarian paella at dinner to die for! I love my stay at the White House Inn. We snagged a nice sized room, king bed, fireplace and the best part of all.... jacuzzi tub! Room was pretty clean. Smelled a lot like smoke, which didn't help when the 60 mph gusts blew more smoke in our room from down drafts. Clearly those things the Inn can not prevent. The accommodations for the most part were wonderful, sure nobody was there to greet us, but we found our key and our room with the help of a waitress at the restaurant with no issues. The breakfast in the mornings are fantastic! Order everything if you would like. The morning staff were informative, well paced and hospitable. We ate at the restaurant one night. The food is very expensive. What I ate was terrific and my wonderful lady enjoyed her meal as well. One of the main reasons they don't get full 5 stars is because I could never seem to find the inn keeper except for a real narrow window at the start of the day. I wish someone was there to walk us through all the great stuff the inn had to offer. We sort of had to find it all on our own. All in all the place is very pleasant, everyone seems to be incredibly friendly and helpful and the location is a short drive to Mount Snow. I'd return here for another stay. read more

The bathroom came equipped with a deep tub - can't imagine a better place to unwind after a long day of skiing in Stratton. This is a beautiful place to stay, eat, drink or all of the above if you have the opportunity. Perched up on a hill overlooking the quaint town of Wilmington, Vt., there is no bad room to stay in. All are very nicely appointed. Very comfortable place to stay. The food here is wonderful (at least the last time I visited.) If you are unable to stay here, then do the next best thing and eat here. Their dinner menu is wonderful and use tasty local ingredients. If you have the opportunity to be up there on Sunday, check out their brunch -- it's a great treat if you are around the area. The bar is a great place to catch a drink after a day of antiquing, leaf peeping or skiing. The enclosed bar overlooks the hill leading down to the town of Wilmington and is just a very relaxing place to sip and relax. read more

We stumbled upon this place via secret escapes. We were looking for a nice place to unwind on our anniversary weekend and this was exactly what the doctor ordered. The Inn is just stunning from the outside while you are driving up. The Inn is perched on a hillside overlooking the valley below. From the moment we arrived the staff was about as attentive as I have ever experienced. They promptly checked us in, showed us our room and reception employee even offered to carry our bags. We declined as we were the ones who over packed! But it was a nice gesture. The room was on the second floor with a great view of the valley and mountains. Te room itself was immaculate and well furnished. It was perhaps too furnished as we soon found out when we went to open our balcony door. This elegant comfy chair was a tad to big for the corner it was in and the balcony door wasn't able to open with it in the way. It wasn't a big deal as we just moved the chair into another corner. It seems the balcony door would have been better suited to opening out rather than in, but hey if that is the worst I can say about this place then I think they are doing a heck of a job. They have done some major renovations to this house and it looks amazing, however keep in mind its still a very old house and they have elected to keep it as original as possible so that means the doors are a bit heavy, they tend to stick a a bit but nothing that distracts from the stay. Since this is a sister property to the Hermitage Hotels/clubs we were granted access to the other facilities. We loved the pool at the Brook Bound Inn as well as the private pond at the Hermitage Club where we were able to paddle board and Kayak till we got our fill. The restaurant in the inn was also a pure joy as they make incredible cocktails and the food was excellent. They even have a dedicated sushi chef (The avocado Bomb is a must). The restaurant knew it was our anniversary and offered us up complimentary ice cream bars which were delicious, however the wifey was mesmerized by the smore milkshake on the menu so we had to get one of those as well. The smores shake was crazy, it comes with a lid and when you take the lid off real smoke comes billowing out. We will definitely be coming back to this place again. read more

We ate here several years ago and had a very positive experience. Last year was another story. We decided to give it another shot especially since it was during the holiday week and all of our other go to places were booked. Anyway, the atmosphere of the restaurant is still pretty nice. The staff was also very friendly and the service was pretty good. The food on the other hand, wasn't so great. The fried foraged mushrooms with breading was pretty good, but the seasoning was very inconsistent. Some pieces were seasoned well, but other pieces were very bland. The fried duck eggs had good flavor, but the white part of the egg had a very plasticky texture. Perhaps overcooked? or maybe old? not sure, but it wasn't a nice experience. The burgers were an issue. My pet peeve - why ask what temperature you'd like your burger if it's going to be prepared well done anyway? I find this to be the case in many places, including this one. Additionally, the pastrami burger came out not only well done, but it was not possible to eat as a burger. The bottom bun was beyond wet where if you picked up the burger, you got no bread. Flavor wise, it was ok. We passed on dessert as their only choice was different ice cream flavors and s'mores. read more

LOVED this place. Got a deal from a LivingSocial deal on two nights with my boyfriend. We're young and the owners treated us the same as everyone else. The room was wonderful and breakfast was a full, hot breakfast instead of just like toast or something. Bartender was super sweet and fun to sit and chat with and the Tavern food was although expensive, delicious. The only thing they need to do is update their toilets. The one in our room was noisy and took awhile to flush fully. read more

We have been going to white house for about 5 years, we have a second house on the mountain. Normally, we are getting an excellent food and drinks. However, this weekend, it was a major disappointment. We had 10 people in the party, my friend and I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, we both got much cheaper Chardonnay. More over than we ask the manager to adjust the bill accordingly, she was super rude and resistant. She SHOULD be fired. I can imagine that Hermitage, would allow the practice of wine switching. restaurant started to serve sushi, some of my friends ordered, definitely not fesh. So order at your own risk. Of course, I have learned that in VT, the service is inversely proportions to the size of the party. read more

One of the best meals I have had in a long time! Everything from the warm rolls to the appetizers to the entrées to the dessert was fantastic. I had the Fried Deviled Duck Eggs and the Fried Chicken. The flavors were exquisite and blended well. My wife had a tomato salad and chicken as well. Everything was great. And, the service was also excellent. Our server, Deji Ann, was efficient and pleasant. It made dinning an enjoyable experience. The place is a little out of the way, but worth the trip. read more

This place is brilliant - and exactly what one would expect for a rural Vermont hotel. The rooms are serene. There are Dearfield Valley views in every direction. The restaurant and bar are unexpectedly great and moderately priced. I had a summer tomato salad followed by duck angliotti that was memorable, a nightcap in the bar, then reading in my room. All-in about as Vermonty as it gets. Maybe could have added maple syrup to the experience in some way. read more
