I've been to Savannah many times and even lived there for over a year when I attended Armstrong Atlantic State University, now Georgia Southern University. However, I've never taken a trolley tour until this past September when we visited for a few days. We had several hours to kill on a Thursday and my history loving husband suggested we take a trolley tour and I thought why not? It would be a great way to see and learn more about the oldest city in Georgia! We chose the hop on-hop off tour, which is 90 minutes long. The tour begins each day at 9:00am and the last tour leaves at either 4:30pm or 5:00pm depending on the season. This tour goes through 14 stops and a trolley comes by every 15 minutes or so. We hopped off pretty early on to explore one of the squares by foot and ended up walking around, getting coffee, and shopping for over an hour. We hopped back on and stayed for several more stops, but had to hop off once we got closer to our hotel. We appreciate that you have the freedom to "customize" your tour experience. The tour was very informative and enjoyable! We loved the addition of historical characters who hopped on at different stops. The actors did a phenomenal job. Highly recommend! read more

I've been to Savannah multiple times, but this was my first time doing a tour of the city. These tours often sell out so I would recommend booking ahead of time. We did the 75 minute historic tour of Old Savannah. Check in was a breeze and all employees we encountered were lovely. Our tour guide/driver, Irish, is a Savannah native and shared some of her personal anecdotes and gave us an in depth history of the squares and history. I learned a lot more about Savannah during this tour and would highly recommend! read more

I saw so many trolley tours in Savannah that the question became which one to pick. Well, as it turns out, you ask around. One of my Uber drivers heavily suggested Old Savannah Tours, otherwise known as the tour held in the white trolley because they have people dressing up as characters. To boot, the concierge at the hotel also recommended them with the added caveat that they have ghost tours. Needless to say, Old Savannah Tours it was for both the typical trolley tour and the ghost tour. TOUR #1: This was the typical trolley tour. You could pay to go around once or have unlimited hop-on, hop-off. I did the latter and I think the price difference was $8 or so. As it turned out, I went all over the place and the trolley stops running past 5 PM, so something to keep in mind. I mention it as my space case brain just got so busy that I just ended up not hopping back on the trolley. TOUR #2: This one took place in the evening and it was a ghost tour. I loved this as in the evening they pick you up via shuttle. No need to hunt down the trolley. Or at least that was my case. Additionally you get spooky ghost stories and even get to go to the first floor of the Telfair. Going in there definitely makes me want to revisit it, especially as there are more floors. I bought the tickets through Orbitz. It was a good price for two people. Get there early to have a parking spot. The tour starts at 9 am and it goes through historic Savannah neighborhoods. The best thing to get is the hop-and-on pass. There are trolley stops all around the tour and you're able to get off and on. I gave them three stars because of my experiences. It started when I checked in. No one was on the front counter. She was doing multiple people's jobs. I've waited like 10 minutes. I showed my Orbitz confirmation on my phone. She asked me if I had a printout. So, I didn't and she didn't print it out. She explained that I have to have a sticker to get on and off the trolley (this will evolve into an experience later). I didn't know there was a way to get around and re-rise the trolley when I booked my tickets on Orbitz. Unfortunately, I didn't get those tickets :/ Moreover, we sat inside the trolley and sat on the front row with the tour narrator just one foot in front of us. When he was talking he projected saliva on us. It was disgusting! Also, during the tour, she stopped talking and looked at young females walking on the sidewalk. It was not necessary to do that in front of people while narrating historical facts. It was very creepy and perverted. During the ride, I noticed we stopped at the trolley stop tourists coming on to ride the trolley without the Old Savannah Tour. The driver didn't say anything to them and asked them for their tickets. At the end of the tour at the Savannah Welcome Center. It is the last stop to take a break. Therefore, we had to take another trolley back to the Old Savannah Tour Center. When we hopped inside the trolley the driver asked if we had tickets. He didn't ask the other non-persons of color who were getting inside the trolley. That irritated me! I felt singled out. Overall, I liked the facts about the historical park squares and houses during the trolley tour. However, I wouldn't recommend this for older adults with mobility difficulties. My mom didn't enjoy it because it was a lot of walking and River Street had an even sidewalk. read more

Savannah is a truly beautiful city. While visiting, I took the Narrated Historic Savannah Sightseeing Trolley Tour, and it was a great experience. Our guide, Cynthanea, was warm, funny, and extremely knowledgeable, which made the tour both engaging and informative. She also shared excellent food recommendations, which was a bonus. Old Savannah Tours: For the most part the tour provided us with a lot of information about Savannah with all its history. A cool service they provided is that you call them and they'll pick you up - our pick up spot (on Bay Street) was super close to our hotel (Hyatt Regency Savannah) actually it was in front of the Bohemian which was located right next door. Once you're picked up they take you to the Savannah Welcome Center where you'll check in (showing your email receipt or paying for your tour). They'll give you a sticker to place on your shirt to use throughout the day for hopping on and off at the different stops (16 total) Whenever we travel to a city we take hop on hop off tours and run the entire route to see all the stops then we figure out which stops we like and go back to those stops. Overall the Tour was decent it was just that the driver/tour guide spoke to fast and the volume of the speaker was not high enough to hear everything. Also the bus moved very fast through some of the areas so seeing everything that the driver/tour guide was pointing out only allowed us a moment to see what he was talking about. The tour takes you through the many squares with Spanish Moss hanging from the Oak trees- the old south look you always see in pictures/movies very cool. A nice extra is that from time to time the bus would stop and a character actor (dressed in the period of time or subject of the particular area/time) would join us on the bus to tell us stories about the area/city of Savannah. All in all it is a very good way to see all the historical spots, but again we felt slightly rushed. I felt we missed a few things read more

She told stories and gave historic information along the 15 stops. There were also actors that came on board at a couple of stops to provide historic information about the characters they were portraying from a 1st person perspective. You can choose the Overview tour that lasts about 90 minutes or you can buy the hop-on/hop-off option to explore a bit at the stops you prefer and get on the next available trolley. They run around every 15-20 minutes, so if the next trolley you want is full, another shouldn't be that far behind. read more

Such a fun time! We took a tour today and did the hop on/off one, so wound up on 3 different trolleys total! Our favorite was the last one! The driver was also the tour guide (other two had one person telling a story while someone else drove) and he was fantastic! Super knowledgeable and also hilarious. I really hate to write this but my 3 friends n I had such a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE on this tour yesterday I have to warn others. Just to be fair we did the same tour a month ago w guide PEGGY n all 4 of ur group thought it was spectacular, informative, best tour ever n learned so much w Peggy's loving fun personality. So we booked again thinking we would experience it again w 3 other guests. It was like night n day. This trolley tour is a great way to learn more about Savannah while getting a break from walking. We purchased the on/off option which means you can get on or off at any of the 14 stops and continue the tour. They'll give you a sticker and several times during your trolley ride they stop to check your tickets so have those ready. We paid $31 each for the on/off tour. We opted to ride the full regular 90 min tour first then go back for a second ride and got off close to our hotel. Larry was our guide and Latonya (not sure if I got her name right) was our driver. They're a great team. Latonya is a great driver and Larry was all the things you want in a tour guide. He was funny and knowledgeable. The on/off tour is slightly more expensive than the 90 min tour but it was a great option for us because we could come and go as we pleased. The seats on the trolley were not comfortable as they're essentially bench seats or like church pews so be aware if that's a problem for you. The visitor center where the shuttle takes you to get on the trolley has bathrooms and drinks. There's a small gift shop as well (actually 2). The next stop they'll offer you water for $1. Since we went in the off season (Dec) we didn't have long waits or intense heat. However, it was overcast and rainy the week we visited. If you go in December you'll want a hoodie or coat because it's pretty chilly on the trolley. We wore hoodies and coats and were comfortable but others weren't. They have characters hop on and off at some stops but we only found one informative. It was mostly cheesy lines and over exaggerated accents. Stop 11 is on River St by the water. You will find cargo ships, the Georgia Queen riverboat and various shops. There are several souvenir stores. The Five and Dime was probably the best one for us. Huey's has excellent Beignets (dessert). If you go toward Linda's you're basically at the end of River St but if you go the opposite way you can walk that whole street and find many options and get an excellent view of the bridge closer to JW Marriott Plant Riverside. The sidewalks are narrow and not in the best condition in places so be aware. Stop 12 drops you right above River St and you can dine at Vics on the River and overlook the steamboat. There's an elevator inside that takes you back down to River St. Overall, we enjoyed the tour but I can see how not having a good guide could ruin this for you. We learned some interesting things about Savannah and would do it again. In the future, I'd love more informative characters that focus less on theatrics and more on the lives of the people they represent. read more

You could hop on and off or stay for the whole tour. And then you could ride again and get off at different places. The price isn't cheap but we enjoyed hearing about Savannah and not having to drive and find a parking spot. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and polite. I did the Trolley Ghost tour near Halloween. It was such a blast! It was educational and entertaining. The guide used to be a history teacher and had excellent story telling skills! Very spooky ghost stories were told. Some I had not heard about even though I listen to spooky stories all the time on YouTube. I loved the actors portraying different stories of old historic Savannah. We got to go inside one of the art museums at night during the tour. It was breath-takingly beautiful and definitely eerie at night. I loved it. This tour exceeded my expectations! Okay, so we scheduled a semi-short notice ghost tour through our concierge at our hotel. They highly recommended Old Savannah but the tour that was most popular, which included a stop for dinner, was booked up. They said tickets were still available for the next tour which was an adult comedy ghost tour referred to as Boo Y'all... she said guests have given good feedback and that it seemed to be a good time. We appreciated they had a shuttle to pick us up and drop us off at the tour station and as we are there, the station is packed! Then, just about 99% of those people load up on a trolley and they're on their way - not our tour. About 15 minutes later, staff calls for the next tour and my friend and I and two other couples, over the age of 60, hop on a bus. Now we were pretty bummed that the tour wasn't a trolley ride but we saw some pictures of the Boo Y'all bus and it was all blacked out, thought it looked ok, pretty cool. We did not get that bus, just a standard white Old Savannah Tours bus. All 6 of us hop in and we are introduced to our driver, our resident comedian, and then a woman-very nice lady- who claims spirits will attach themselves to us and we can come back to her and pay to be rid of them... okay... it's their thing. We got forewarning that this was a comedy and tour more than a ghost tour. I get it, but it was really not a ghost tour at all. The comedian would tell us about haunted places as we pulled up out front, he'd crack some jokes, sometimes getting off topic and would miss the que so he'd tell us - oh that place we just past "blah blah blah". He had his funny moments. And we appreciated the chance to sit after walking several miles around the city earlier in the day as well as the comfort of an air conditioned ride, even though it was pretty musty, stinky, and not very clean. Half way through the tour they make a pit stop at some hole in the wall Irish bar where you feel obligated to buy a drink and mingle for 10 minutes before hopping back on the bus for the last half. The bus obviously has windows which prevent you from taking any "ghost" pictures and the stops are very short. We got jealous seeing all the walking tours and if there had been enough people on the bus to where we wouldn't have been noticed missing, we would have bailed at that point and walked or Ubered back to our hotel. There we another moment when we stopped to have a "ghost" come on and tell us his story. Pretty lame, huh dressed in costume hops on in character, says his lines, gets off and goes on checking his phone. I think this has potential to be a good time, especially if there is a large group and people are drinking and having a good time and interacting but it was super awkward in my experience, not great. I was very thankful there was one off the wall lady who was a party of one and took care of being the one to interact. Comedian seemed like a nice guy, had his moments of humor, driver- kudos to him because the way people park I'm amazed that he is able to maneuver around all those vehicles without hitting someone. We told the concierge about how terrible this was and was offered our money back which we declined, lesson learned. This was about $35/person for about 90 minutes. read more

Very informative tour We had Steve as our tour guide...very friendly and informative. Drove by Chippewa Square, where the statue of James Oglethorpe's statue stands, founder of the Colony of Georgia and where the bench scenes for Forrest Gump was filmed. Be sure to stop and take a pic of the park. Oh, we also passed by Six Pence Pub on Bull Street where Julia Roberts and Dennis Quaid filmed a scene from the movie "Something to Talk About." Old Savannah Tours has different actors portraying historic and other characters. We pause and make a stop and they'll hop on and give a little speech. We took a full round trip first to see all the stops and highlights then at its second round we got off at stop #10 at the City Market, had a nice lunch at one of the restaurants and did some shopping. We then walked across to the Historic River Street along the Savannah waterfront and walked the strip...lots of shops and restaurants, the waving girl statue is on River Street. Savannah is so historical with lots of monuments and Squares. 22 squares are still in existence today. We learned a lot and soaked up enough of the city's charm. Thanks, Steve! We purposely did this tour toward the end of our trip after we had a chance to walk around a bit. I think this helped us to grasp just how much history is in this wonderful city. We bought tickets at their main office, which looks like a bank and parked there a well for free. We then walked across the street to where all of tour busses in town start up. It was easy to find the right bus and get on. The tour was a hop on hop off, but we stayed through the whole tour, which lasted almost 90 minutes. My favorite parts were when the historical characters would board the bus at some of the stops and tell the story of Savannah from their perspective. This was great for the kids. I also loved that there was a separate driver than the tour guide talking. This made for less distraction and the driver was still able to keep to what the tour guide was saying. Five Stars!!! My husband, 1 year old and I stopped in Savannah for the morning. This was a great way to see all the spots and learn about Savannah. We booked the hop on and off trolley so we can get off at any stop we wanted. My 1 year old was free to ride. We ended up with Tammy, the driver, most of the ride and loved her! She was funny, nice, and had lots of interesting information. This is a must if you visit Savannah! I recommend sitting on the right side of the Trolley if you want to take lots of photos. Gertrude made the experience amazing! It changed from a trolley to get to our destination, into a joy to ride. The way she presented facts made them easier to remember. She even gave movie recommendations of things filmed in Savannah. They all create their own presentations of facts instead of memorizing a set script, so each trolley ride will be a different experience and probably why you see a wide array of review ratings. My only complaint would be the uncomfortable wooden seats when sitting for about 90 minutes to complete the full tour. Not sure what they can do about that. You're allowed to carry your own water/snacks, but they also sell cold bottled water for $1 at their lot where they pick up a few more passengers, which is free to park at but small. That's also where you pay for your ticket even if you board at the Visitors Center. The Visitors Center locks up at 4 which means no more bathroom there, plan accordingly. It's better to board at the Visitors Center as there is always a trolley there, but parking is not free. Dedicated RV parking is a flat $20 for the day and I believe cars were $2 per hour. You don't need to put your printed ticket in your vehicle like most places require. You want stop 11 for River Street, but because of construction there now you have to take stop 13 at the gold topped building and walk to the elevator that takes you right there. Bathroom in the building to your left as you're coming off the elevator ramp. If you have any other questions just ask your guide/driver, they're happy to help from restaurant recommendations to which stop for ice cream. read more

Fun fact; Savannah has allot of dead bodies! We booked this tour through our hotel and they called for a shuttle to bring us to the visitor center at the start of the tour. We only had to walk a block to the shuttle stop and only had to wait a few minutes after we made it to the stop. The shuttle ride was fun as the driver was friendly and shared a few facts about the city'. From the center, there was already a trolley waiting and we were treated to the 90 minute tour. This tour is filled with facts and history at every turn. There are about 14 stops if you choose to hop on and off. It does take 90 minutes so if your starting the tour after 2, I would recommend saving money and just doing one pass of the tour. if you're planning on getting a shuttle back to your hotel you'll need to be off by 4:30. Also next time I think i'll do the tour earlier as the later tours most pick up people doing the on and off thing and they are less interested in hearing about the sites and might be a little disruptive. read more

This was a fantastic tour and not overly expensive. 90 minutes for $29 and free parking is a deal! Our driver was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much information about the Savanah area. At certain stops we had costumed narrators jump on and also share tidbits of information. The ride was comfortable and our tour guide was quite hospitable providing a lot of local color for the area. We got off at the last stop and toured the Marriott museum. We walked back to an oyster bar and enjoyed happy hour. We decided to walk back to our car which was only a ten minute walk. Fantastic tours! We visited the area for a week and utilized this trolly 3 times over two days of our stay. Day one we had "Ellis" who was a professional driver in very congested traffic while narrating as he drove. On this day we simply rode the tor completely and then boarded a second trolly for a second tour and took our pictures on the 14 stop ride. One an additional day we used the trolley as a stop and walk form of transporting and again learned so much from differing drivers and characters stationed along the route. Parking was free at the welcome center and trolleys were clean and comfortable. We'd definitely utilize again. read more

The hop on & off trolley is a great way to see the historic sights of Savannah in 90 minutes! The Good: 1. The tour is very informative and entertaining. 2. You'll see all of the highlights of historical Savannah in 90 minutes. (Great for parents traveling with a fussy toddler!) 3. Sitting on a hot trolley is slightly more pleasant than walking in 90+ degree heat. 4. There are 15 stops with the option to hop off if you want to visit a sight in more detail. The Bad: 1. The tour is a bit overpriced at $35 per ticket. 2. The jokes are cheesy. Get ready for lots of dad jokes! 3. There is no air conditioning on the trolley, but the occasional cool breeze does provide relief. My husband swears he is never going to waste his money on another bus tour, but I don't think we would have seen nearly as much as we saw without going on this tour. The next day my husband kept telling his family about the history of Savannah; something that would not have been possible without taking this tour. read more
