All the prior reviews stating there are no scary stories didn't have Henry! He supplied many scary tales and genuinely knows how to deliver a good story. I'm so glad we went with this tour and we lucked out by getting Henry. We had a large group of people and with some of the loud cars and loud city folk walking by rudely trying to interrupt his stories I was highly impressed with how well he projects his voice to make sure everyone can hear and never misses a beat. Let's get this out of the way first: I'm a pretty serious person. I'm a history nerd, I like to learn things, I'm not really over the top. Second: Our guide for the Savannah Haunted Pub Crawl, Jonathan, was over the top. He was like if Noah Wyle and Anthony Bourdain had a baby with a drama queen who likes dad jokes. This was not exactly my type of tour. A lot of "This lady of the night chose the wrong sailor and her body was found without eyes or her liver, right there." Or "Charlie was thrown from the window, naked, and now his ghost is seen naked at the end of guests' beds." Kinda cheesy stories, but it was fun all the same. But Jonathan was funny, he didn't present the tour as anything other than what it was, and if you wanted to learn a little more about history on the side, he made himself available during downtime. He was very down to earth and approachable. Drinks aren't included, but nothing at any stop is bank breaking. And the tour itself was only 30-something bucks. Most of the tour, aside from one set of steps, is flat and easy to walk. I would not do this tour again solo, because I'm a lame nerd, but I am glad I did it this time. And I would take a friend visiting Savannah in search of a good time and entertainment. Having been on various ghost tours in Savannah over decades, we had high expectations for this one - afterall, its not difficult to talk about the very many haunting experiences in Savannah...but this company struggles. Our walking tour guide, Crow, was funny, but very longwinded - we spent almost half an hour just standing in front of the Marshall House and listening to him go on and on. We didnt hit hardly any of the best places for ghost stories in Savannah, except the Colonial Cemetery, where he told us a tall tale of Renee Rondalier, a man who there is zero proof of ever existing and known as an urban legend to even the casual visitor to Savannah. Its a story designed to vilify black people, them even mentioning that the boy had animal fur like a wolf (also ZERO proof of anyone like that existing in Savannah at that time). Though Crow had told us before the tour started that he moved there from Texas as an adult, during the tour, he claimed he'd experienced "many times" the ghost of Renee following him as a teenager (which let us know his stories were mostly that - stories - not actual recounts of things that happened). This is the first time I've taken ANY ghost tour in Savannah and visited such random sites, and been told urban legends instead of verified facts about people living in Savannah long ago. It was a fun time listening to the stories, but we learned nothing about Savannah this time, had no experiences of note, and felt like we spent money to be lied to. We did the Ghosts and Gravestones Trolly late on Sat. night and Jojo did a good job... but the whole experience was just cheesy. We enjoyed listening and watching five ladies on our tour laugh and get "surprised" at various points. We enjoyed seeing how people lived and what the "elite" home might have as luxuries rather than any type of point getting frightened. We booked the 9:30 pm walking Dead of Night Tour and it was amazing! Henry was our guide and he had a great mix of seriousness and humor when regaling the group with the history and tales associated with each spot on the tour. Talk about masterful delivery! I assume he has some improv experience because he pitched his voice to create a mood and took his dramatic time recounting each story. And when we were strolling to the next stop on the tour, he took the opportunity to have a friendly chat people in the group so that, by the end, he'd spoken to everyone. We signed up for the Haunted Pub Crawl. Started the tour at Churchills, we had about 20 in our group. I was afraid it would be hard to hear the guide, but it worked out fine. He brought us to places where we could gather around when he told stories. The guide had a quirky personality and was very knowledgeable on the history of Savannah. The problem was that we couldn't tell when he was kidding, embellishing or totally making up the story. I was really excited for the tour and looking forward to the historical element. We would walk for a bit, than stop at a bar. We stopped at 3 bars in the 90 minute tour. I almost felt like it was more about bringing business to the bars than a ghost tour. Drinks are not included in the ticket price. The first bar we stopped at they were promoting the Chatham Artillery punch, it wasn't cheap, but I love the idea of trying something specific to what I am doing. It had a lot of different liquors in it and claimed to be strong, I was worried that it would hit me- it did not. It is questionable if it had any liquor in it at all. The others in the group kept gradually dismissing themselves, I think we were down to 5 at the end if that says anything. The tour guide did keep bringing up tipping him, to a point where it was uncomfortable. I respect the need to bring it up, but not continuously. The tour was $30. and it was a nice night out, so we toured some of Savannah and grabbed some drinks. I wouldn't do it again, but not the worst $30 bucks I've spent. read more

Finally! A combo bar crawl/ ghost stories walking tour! Actually, maybe they have been around forever, but this was my first! Somehow the guide managed to add humor to horrific ghost stories. Also she managed to hustle us to 5 (or was it 6? lol) haunted pubs in two hours! I'm amazed how she took us to a dive bar. upscale bars and everything in between! As a new transplant to Savannah, it was certainly an easy way to find some that are keepers. I strongly recommend this ghost tour. And the price is much better than the trolley tours. Tour was terrible and they refused to honor their money back guarantee even though we did finish the tour and contacted them right after the tour. Do not waste your money on this tour. There are no stories of demons, possessions or anything of the sort. There is only one story of "murder" and it was actually self defense. It was absolutely no worth it. Typically I would never ask for money back on something like this but since the advertised a money back Garuntee and we were so dissatisfied I thought that would make me feel better about the experience if I just wasted an evening instead of wasting an evening and money. I love a ghost story so after studying all of the ghost tour options in the most haunted city in America I picked the Dead of Night Tour from Ghost City Tours. The tour is only for those sixteen years old and older and meets in Greene Square which was a short walk from where I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Historic District. The tour is $29.99 and runs at 9 and 11 and lasts 90 minutes. Hoping for some ghostly activity I chose the 11 PM tour. It is a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes. You book your tickets online and then meet at the square where they divide you off into groups. My tour was led by Harley. She took us to some squares, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, the Sorrell Weed House, Colonial Park Cemetery, and ended at Marshall House where in 1998 in the basement it was discovered dozens of amputated limbs from Civil War soldiers. To be honest my guide was low energy and not a very good story teller. At one point she alluded to the fact that she believed in ghosts and had personally experienced something but she never went into further detail which was too bad because that might have made a good story. I had visited almost all of the places we went to earlier in the day and looked up different stories on the internet and I don't feel like I learned anything new. I guess I was supposed to be shocked that some of the bodies in Colonial Park Cemetery are buried outside the cemetery gates but in South Florida there are bodies everywhere including underneath I-95 so I wasn't too impressed. I think the tour could have been improved if they brought along some ghost hunting equipment like at the very least an EMF reader. Ultimately I left disappointed because I didn't feel like I scratched the ghostly surface of Savannah. I have been spoiled by Indian River Hauntings in Martin County Fl. They approach investigations skeptically with real equipment. I have had some fun adventures with them. This was very touristy which was fine but I feel like I could have saved thirty bucks and gotten the same thing from the internet. read more

Save your money and just go to the bars on your own! Very little ghosts stories; too many boring bars. You really don't get much about the history (or the tour we expected). We were a bit older so the host ignored us and dismissed our physical challenges on the wet/uneven terrain. We sat outside the bars while the others drank like crazy...not my cup of tea (pun intended). Even some of the younger people joined us after the third bar as they were bored as well. Why pay to go bar hopping? Easily done without this tour. We looked longingly as other tours went by us that looked much more interesting. We stopped at the cemetery and she told us to take pictures so we can see ghosts. She said that red colors and green orbs were ghosts. (It was the traffic light). She said that the red light in this picture was evil. why did it change to green? The most interesting part was her talking about how she teaches art. I have gone on many tours because I love learning more about Savannah- this was the worst. Also- BOUNDARIES. In an attempt to be funny she came less than 3 inches from his face. You got a story (that may or may not be true) from the area and then you headed off to a place that sold drinks. None of the bars were super awesome or anything. I feel like maybe this was a tour endorsed by these certain pubs/bars as a way to get them sure business every night? Nothing was real scary and there's no hope for seeing a ghost honestly. We got stuck with a super annoying bachelorette party for ours that made the whole thing a joke. Ghost City Tours just isn't great with their tours if you want the real deal. Ghost City Tours turns out to be a franchise operation running the McDonald's equivalent of ghost tours around the country. Had I realized that at the outset, I would not have booked with this company on principle. But book I did, unwittingly, and as always in a tour you are at the mercy of how good -- or poor -- your guide is. We booked the "Dead of the Night" tour on Christmas Eve. We weathered the frigid cold for a hoped for good tour. The group was large, we all had high hopes. However, disappointment is the only response I can give. In retrospect, having learned more about this company as the ghost franchiser muscling in on local tour companies, it's not surprising the quality is far below that of locally run companies that are born and raised in the local community and thoroughly invested in the history and hauntings. We are connoisseurs of ghost tours, having gone one dozens around the country in every haunted corner of the US and outlying islands. A guide makes or breaks the tour. A thoroughly scripted tour, as this was, and one in which the clients never enter a single haunted building, is a huge disappointed -- and a major red flag. Ghost Tours that have community support also get allowed in to haunted buildings . . . if that's not happening, the community isn't all in with the company. I'm also a psychic and experienced paranormal investigator -- and there was literally no paranormal investigating going on with this tour, and the guide clearly was not an investigator or even an expert or quasi-expert in the paranormal. The franchise is hiring schoolteachers (literally) and other warm bodies to lead tours for which they hand them a script and send them on their way. YOU DO NOT WANT THIS. It's a waste of time and money. Savannah is seething with good ghost stories . . . they won't be found here. We've been in town before and took another ghost tour and it was excellent! That was a few years ago. We feel we got suckered on this franchise ghost tour. Our guide, as nice a woman as she may be, wasted our time and money continually chatting about herself, her background, her children, her children's experiences, and anything else that popped into her head -- virtually anything BUT ghost stores that we paid for. She recited the stories as if we were a group of idiot children, although this was billed as an "adults only tour" with scarier stories and real content. That is blatantly false. The stories were bland, g-rated, and terribly told. Our guide belabored stories with repetition and filler phrases worthy of an informercial -- making us want to run screaming from the tour. Horrible. Cut to the chase. Tell the story. Get some passion and animation for your topic going. This was just sad. And we were so cold. We were promised at the outset of the 90 minute tour which dragged on for 2 hours, that we would stop halfway to warm up inside some establishment where we could get a hot chocolate or a drink. That simply NEVER happened. Even so, with the belabored speech of the guide, she took a half an hour longer than anticipated. Toward the end of the tour the guide let it out that she had been a middle school teacher. Huzzah! That explained a lot. It explained her tendency to talk down to us as if we were a group of children, rather than adults on an adults only tour. She has ingrained her way of speaking and relating to a children's audience . . . she should not be leading adult tours unless she can unlearn that and be trained. But as I mentioned, the franchise company is hiring warm bodies, not paranormal experts or aficionados. In summary, don't waste you money and time with Ghost City. Savannah is getting oversaturated with Ghost Tour companies now, sometimes with competing groups standing near each other in the same locations. This is not a nice experience. I suggest you look for the original ghost tour companies, real paranormal experts, with homegrown Savannah roots. The same holds in any other city or town where you look for a ghost tour. Go local. Go with real paranormal types. Make sure they'll take you inside locales, not stand outside people's homes and businesses talking about them ad nauseam, stretching out simple stories to elongated nightmares of bad storytelling. The scariest thing on this tour was the guides yellow contact lenses and bad storytelling. Move along, because truly, there is nothing to see here. read more

Coming to Savannah, we wanted to do an obligatory ghost tour for the heck of it. We did the Dead of Night Tour because it meets at 11pm, is more oriented towards adults, and last because it didn't include children which was nice. Our guide's name was Skippy, who was a long time tour guide who did a good job talking through the general history of Savannah and connecting it to ghost stories. He was funny at times, somber at others, and engaging throughout which is impressive given the time and length of the tour. There were some other funny things that happened though. We had 2 problematic groups of people within our larger tour group. The first was an annoying group of bachelorettes. They were trashed and thought they had purchased one of the hearse-driven ghost tours rather than the walking one that, you know, they actually had purchased. They made a half-hearted attempt to blame this on the guide somehow, and then they left. The other pains-in-the-ass were more entertaining. Every time Skippy would say anything remotely scary, amusing, or sometimes without a prompt at all, these 2 girls would oooo and ahhh. They were high out of their minds and smoking weed until halfway on the tour when they just disappeared. Maybe the ghosts took them. Everyone else was normal and we had a good laugh about it. I thought this was good for what it was, and Skippy did about as good of a job with it as I would hope for. Not everything was historically accurate but it was entertaining, which was the ultimate point. My wife did get 2 pictures of alleged ghosts in the cemetery too. I would definitely do this again, however next time I'd do an earlier tour so I'm not up forever. And hopefully to avoid the morons as well. read more

First, if you're going to be spending at least one day if not two touring Savannah, get yourself a Savannah Tour pass at Tourpass.com or google Savannah tour pass. We saved a lot of money. It gets you admission into 30 museums and tours for one price. An adult 2 day ticket was $117 and we did three tours, including the Ghost City Tour, the Riverboat Cruise and a Carriage tour, plus three museums and we wasted opportunities. If we were smart we would have taken the hop on hop off trolley and gone into all the museums with it too but we decided against it because the kids were NOT into it. The Ghost tour is fun but don't expect a lot. You get great actors coming on the trolley and doing these fantastic performances and tell scary stories and you do see the Telfair at night and my husband swears he saw the ghost of Mary Telfair, and you do see Savannah at night, which is gorgeous. And they will pick you up at your hotel and drop you off. Overall if you pick one ghost tour I'd recommend this one because you sit and watch actors and see a lot without walking. read more

I highly recommend stopping for a To-go drink at Jens and friends martini bar across from Johnson Square (the meeting point) before the walk. The stories were good, we stopped at a couple squares, the colonial cemetery, and the Weed House. I was disappointed because we didn't go to 428 Abercorn St. and I wasn't going to walk all the way back after we went back to Johnson square.
