I took one of the walking tours while in Savannah and had an amazing time with Daniel. It was an very intimate group of three which made it more personable and not rushed. We were able to ask more questions. We started at Johnson square and ended at Forsyth park. We walked the downtown area and learned a great deal of history about Savanna. Our guide was very knowledgeable and appeared to be passionate about history. i loved that he spoke about the good, bad and ugly of the historical moments. All in all I had a great time and would definitely recommend this tour. read more

Our guide was very knowledgeable about Savannah's rich history. Most of our tour revolved around the central squares, beautiful houses and monuments. Our guide shared the history of the city and its involvement with Sherman's March to the sea. Of course he also told us about Savannah's film history and the historical district revival. We've done several of this type of walking tour before but unfortunately this one fell a little short. Chuck, the guide, seemed knowledgeable but was very difficult to hear. He is easily the quietest tour guide we've had. The tour didn't seem to involve too much walking at all which I understand with all the squares it's a very tightly built city but we literally stood at the starting point almost 20 minutes and then walked around to the other side of the monument in the same square for a few minutes and then around back to the font where we began. I believe we were in the first square between 20-30 minutes before really moving on to any other area. The other tourists were very slow to walk, often a full block behind which of curse is not the guides fault but he did wait for everyone to catch up every time and at no point made any effort to try to rangle up the group and get people to stay together better, even with 1 polite request. We did end at Forsyth Park a few minutes before the full 90 minutes though so I'd guess the tour isn't even the marketed 90 minutes if people weren't lagging behind so badly. This was our last day in Savannah and we had already learned quite a few things and were surprised some of those things weren't mentioned about buildings we passed so the full time could have been completely used for sure. The tour has no rest periods at any coffee shop or bathroom which we've experienced on longer tours in the past. It was not an issue for this shorter tour but it's good to know you'll want to bring something to drink with you from the start. read more

I'm not sure if these tours are always this incredible but my Guy Joe did a great job on the morning of April 26th!!!! That guy seriously killed it. You could hear the passion and love for the city as we walked around. He is very animated and appropriately alters the inflection in his voice to both emphasize key points but also maintain the audiences engagement. You can tell that he is going to be a great guide from the minute he starts his introduction. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the city, and as a local was able to toss in some fun facts from his own family's stories. He even offered some tips for great restaurants to stop at for food. Plus, he called us to make sure we were still coming, because we were that group that walked up exactly on the hour. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Savannah, and if you can book Joe! read more

We were in town in early December. Last minute decided to give this a try. Chuck was on time. It was a good tour. We had been in town for a few days before we took the tour. It may have been a better tour one of the first days were there. I have no complaints though. Do note they charge a fee (few dollars, the city forces them to charge it) on the website to book and then you decided what to pay the tour guide. A nice walk around the city. Chuck was very punctual. There were about six of us in his group. He started with a story about the founding of Savannah that went on far too long... just standing in the hot sun without any idea as to where this lengthy story was going was not an auspicious start. He speaks exceedingly fast and is not always easy to follow. He said he would be open to questions, but as soon as he had finished his spiel, he turned and walked on... no time for questions. No one said a word to him throughout the tour. We enjoyed seeing the different squares, but without any interaction ourselves, they have all morphed into one. The stories have all blended. read more

We enjoyed our "free" walking tour that stopped at and passed through 5 or 6 of Savannah's many squares, plus the cemetery and some historic homes. For our personal needs, we wished that we had come to Savannah when it was warmer (there was a crazy chilly cold snap going on when we were there this time), and when the trees and shrubs were flowering. I think our experience would have been enhanced if that had been the case. We found that Daniel really personalized his stories and descriptions, maybe even a bit too much. I was very disappointed with this booking. First and foremost, you book and you pay the tax at the time of booking. The website states you will be provided an email with instructions and the spot to meet for your booking. I booked in advanced and did not receive an email. I called their number numerous times only to receive caller busy signals. I was never contacted via email, could not reach anyone to speak with, and to top it off I received a call the day of the tour at the intended start time by the tour guide and could barely hear the person because it was so garbled! Don't waste your time with this company unless you want to be frustrated with this awful service. read more

Daniel was our tour guide on a chilly Sunday morning in February, besides the discomfort from the cold, the tour experience was perfect. The 90 minute tour started in Johnson Square, just one of the 22 currently 'operating' squares in downtown Savannah. From there we walked to Write Square, then over to the Owen-Thomas House on Oglethorpe Square (although we didn't tour the house, we talked about it's significance). We then walked to Colonial Cemetery and over to see the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (you MUST go look inside, they don't give you a chance on the tour, but just break off for a moment and take a look if you don't plan on going back) and Lafayette Square. Next onto the Green-Meldrim House on Madison Square and back to Chippewa Square to finish (where Forest Grump's bench scenes were filmed). This tour is all walk and no play, you'll be on tour the entire time, no chance to stop for a coffee halfway through (or more likely an alcoholic beverage), so make sure you've got something in hand pre-start. The tour is broken down into the history of Savannah (and layout), historical persons, architecture and influence. I learned the perfect amount on the tour and definitely felt like it was a great way to see the city and squares you'll know Savannah is famous for. At the end of the tour, I didn't feel pressured into tipping Daniel, he simply puts a bucket out and says he'd love to recommend further places for you or help you on your journey. You SHOULD tip him, because is fantastic, but he's very tactful in his approach. Highly recommend this tour, it's kid friendly and moderately healthy elderly person friendly as well. This is a great tour! We have done trolley tours in Savannah before but I much preferred the walking tour because it wasn't a fly by of the city. You're walking and talking with an awesome guide, Chris, who is quite entertaining and knowledgeable of the rich history and haunts of the city. Savannah isn't "small" but it's small enough that you're able to see the historic district on the tour. We had a large group but our guide made sure we could all hear and made stops in places big enough to accommodate our group (32). Highly recommend. I love history and often on these types of tours there is a bit of exaggeration and stretching to truth to entertain, this tour was true historic facts with a great guide who makes it entertaining and fun! One thing that Chris does especially well is control the environment around him so the tour makes sense and others are comfortable. On this note, there was a mother on our particular tour who simply could not handle her extremely poorly behaved children. Chris did a great job of asking to keep the children from running amok and still keeping a light air about it. Parents, control your children! If you are unable, avoid the groups of parents who can. It was pretty good!! Our guide was Chuck Norras - yes, but with an "A"!!! Chuck was knowledgeable in the city history and shared a lot of information about the city, it's founders, historical sites and events. But Chuck was on a mission - he had all his lines memorized and nothing was going to derail him from his exact routine. Chuck would have continued with his tour unfazed even if I had dropped dead in the middle of it :-) Also, given the average high age of his clients, there was not a bathroom break during the 1.5 hour tour!! I know these tours are advertised as free but there's a good reason why they are free. The route isn't very detailed and you are allowed to get on and off but once you step off the trolley, you really don't know when the next trolley is going to come by. The paid tours give you more detailed information and provide a better tour of Savannah than the limited one....just my two cents worth. read more

We took a tour with Daniel (I believe) and have to say it was almost on the boring side, even though I had a couple of drinks before we started. While he did have lots of historical information on the 8 or so stops we walked past it was probably the least interesting walking tour we've done in Savannah. A few people left the "tour" half way through, don't think they were impressed either. Glad we didn't take our teenagers because they would have hated it. (We still felt obligated to "tip" him $20 each for his 1.5 hours of time). Would recommend some of the more genuinely animated personalities in this town for walking tours - the ghost tours we've taken with other companies were much more fun with more interesting/different historical information in our opinion...and they were completely kid friendly (not scary at all). read more

I took a tour with Daniel a few weeks ago, and couldn't have been happier. The sheer volume of knowledge that he has about Savannah is top notch, and his interest and pride in Savannah shows in the tour. This was an experience in Savannah that I would strongly encourage any visitors to try. In particular, I would advise this as your first stop on your trip because it will give you a greater appreciation for the city for the rest of your trip.
