Lots of carefully thought out flower / plant beds spread over a huge park-like area. We could see the staff (or volunteers) weeding, replacing, and caring for the plants to keep everything healthy and fresh. A children's presentation was taking place over under the shade in one area, and it was entertaining and informative enough that I wanted to stop and listen. A restaurant and a large meeting hall (one of the older houses) and a music performance pavilion and a gift shop rounded out the setting, along with the various sheltered exhibit buildings. There is also a refreshment cart on the main pathway, which was invaluable on this hot day. The butterfly exhibit was absolutely enthralling. Hundreds of live flutter-byes in a closed glassed in space. Many colors and varieties. I am told they curate the butterflies to replace them every week or so as they inevitably.... go to insect heaven. So the exhibit is constantly changing! Admission to the butterfly experience is included with the price of getting into LGBG.

We could not believe how good the food was- it was worth a trip in its own right! It's on the pricier side but it is clear why, the plates wouldn't be out of place at a fine dining restaurant. We also had the kindest server, Chelsie, who made our experience so special and memorable! She stopped by to chat several times, gave us great recommendations, and she could not have been nicer to me and my friends. We were lucky enough to attend our dear friends' wedding here and it was a spectacular wedding venue. I enjoy that it's right in the park so there are quite a few benches to sit on. There are also fun paths to explore with a warm drink and yummy snacks. I highly recommend ordering goodies from the vendors then having a picnic in Forest Hill Park. On my recent visit, I bought some rainbow carrots, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, fennel, and Europa fresh bread. As it gets colder there can be fewer vendors, but they carry everything you could hope and dream of. I loved checking out a vendor that sold holiday candles. There is tons of parking here and it's easy to bike or bus to. I'd recommend checking this market out.

PG Farmers' Market has been one of my Saturday destinations for years. They have a wide range of local produce, eggs, honey, coffee (roasted locally, not grown), and lots of assorted craft items. I typically go for the eggs and produce. On this occasion, I bought some coffee from a vendor which was amazing and only $7 as compared to some local coffed I bought in RVA for $12. I also bought some veggies, eggs from one of the few vendors that sell them, and hoop cheese. This is a great little farmer's market. The only down side is that there are some weekends that vendors are scant. My favorite thing to get is eggs and there are times when there are no vendors with eggs. Even still, I never leave empty handed and never spend more than $20.

The bike sculpture is a hidden gem that was commissioned by Richmond artist John Meola, whose talent for repurposing salvage materials gave new life to what would have otherwise been scrap and so every angle that you look at reveals another bicycle frame wheel handlebar or gear so it's a fun place to stop with you're looking to get a photograph or you're a cyclist or just appreciate imaginative craftmanship. This is more than just a sculpture it's a symbol of sustainability creativity and Richmond's long-standing connection to cycling.
