Much like the Restaurant mugs up in independence, they serve loose meat, hamburgers, and a variety of other things. We always got the maid-rites with cheese, extra pickles, and onions, followed up with a large order of onion rings or two, and some delicious root beer. The service there is quick and friendly. This is an old school Drive up carhop restaurant. There's no seating inside. And while you're there drive across the street to their City Hall and check out the cannonball hole in the front of the building.

Sitting in the middle of the easily overlooked Missouri town of Lexington, like its close neighbor Maid Rite Drive-In, it is the picture of rural midwestern Americana. Their rustic building has a good amount of street parking with a common parking lot across the street. Everything about it screams "down home" and welcoming. Tables abound in the dining room, with a brick patio off to the side for the outdoorsy crowd. Table service is very good in both the dining room or at the full bar near the kitchen. Their menu attests to their support of all things local, including the wants and needs of non-city dwellers. Including the local culture appears foremost in their mind. The Spotted Pig has become an impromptu meeting place for alumni of Lexingtons ill fated Wentworth Military Academy, and is within walking distance of its museum. But it is the food that makes it shine. From their burgers, through one of the best Smoked Pork Chops I have ever eaten (the brown gravy is something to behold) and a "get a take home box" sized Club Sandwich, to their Saturday night Prime Rib Special, "down home comfort food" makes the half hour drive from the Kansas City city limits worthwhile. Prices are reasonable in today's post COVID-19 economy, as are the portions. Lexington is loaded with 19th Century history, including museums and an historic battlefield (do not miss the "cannon ball" from the Civil War battle) lodged in the Court House column. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast and while it was good it is 1/2 the size of Daddy's 10-13 diner across the river in Richmond. The tab for two people was 25$, but at Daddy's we usually pay 30-35$ but the portions are way bigger and the food is just better. This place is a solid 3 out of 5 if you need breakfast and don't want to cook for yourself at home it's worth it. Don't expect to be bowled over with the cooking, it is basic breakfast food.

He didn't touch my food but gloves should be worn in my opinion to put stuff in the box during this time. Now to the food, I did the $5 pizza and Cheese breadsticks. Yelp found Fahrmeier's Farm and a quick visit to their website informed me that blackberry season had just opened! Well who doesn't like blackberries? So off we go, ready to go pick some fruit on the way to the Battle of Lexington State Historic Park. Super friendly girl came out to greet us and escorted us to a row of blackberries that she said were especially delicious. She showed us how to pick them, twist not pull, and then off we were! These blackberries were the largest berries I have ever seen! A few were as long as my thumb. They were bursting with sweet juiciness. I couldn't help eating one or two during the picking process, but they all looked so good. I'm pretty sure I picked all of the best ones... lol... ok not really, but had a whole tray at the end of going down one row and back up the other side. All those berries cost less than $20 too! I think the total was like $17 and change for about 4-5 lbs at $3.99/lb. Everyone in the little market was friendly and they had a few things for sale there from their farm, fresh eggs, ginormous tomatoes (seriously, huge,like 3-4 lbs) and various other things including cold drinks. You end up with an open tray of berries in a bag that only covers half, so be careful driving with them. But I had the best time being a city gal in the country and seeing cute goats and birds flying around. I had some berries on my cereal this morning and omg so delicious - seriously the best I've ever had. My bf doesn't think I can eat all the ones I picked. Watch me.

The longer version: Things that will keep me from returning to a winery are an inhospitable host or wines I don't enjoy. There's nothing keeping me from returning to Farmeier. Our host was very entertaining and personable. He explained his product throughly, answered questions and offered lots of information. We tasted all of his wines. I found several that I liked and we left with two bottles, a dry and a sweet. They have events throughout the year, including an Ugly Sweater Christmas Party coming up in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to a return visit soon.

I only really went into the tasting room but it was unique looked a bit like an old saloon but inside a barn and thanks to the rain it was cool enough to be tolerable with 35+ people crammed at the counter. The wines- i tried two of them and learned exactly how much of a beer person i am i tried most of them in an attempt to get my wife a bottle she wouldn't hate. I found one that was tolerable River bluffs white ... They all kinda taste like metal and im not sure if that's on purpose or accident either way id rather have a riesling. Its an interesting place and while i cant confirm it i hear they have a bed and breakfast so yeah there's something. So its an experience for sure but i don't plan on a second trip myself
