This restaurant is just ok. I've eaten here both when it first opened and again 2 years later when…read morethey moved to their new location on South street. Both times the food was just meh. They did have new waitstaff the 2nd time and the young girl admitted she was new, I won't go too hard on her for that as we were all new at a job at some point in our lives. I've only ever eaten breakfast here because that's the meal I eat out most often. Price wise this is an affordable place to eat. That being said the food is basic. I got a 2 egg breakfast and I did get a piece of eggshell in my over easy eggs which turned me off enough I didn't finish eating them. I asked for bacon and got sausage, never got hash browns even though they came with the meal, and the coffee was burnt tasting. The waitress never brought any condiments or asked if we needed hot sauce etc.. but again she was new. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast and while it was good it is 1/2 the size of Daddy's 10-13 diner across the river in Richmond. The tab for two people was 25$, but at Daddy's we usually pay 30-35$ but the portions are way bigger and the food is just better. This place is a solid 3 out of 5 if you need breakfast and don't want to cook for yourself at home it's worth it. Don't expect to be bowled over with the cooking, it is basic breakfast food.

Sunrise Cafe - The egg shell I found in my over easy eggs 1/2 way through eating. I was lucky I didn't bite down on it and damage a tooth or my gums.

I dont enjoy putting ice cold condiments on hot food especially if i want the food to stay warm. But the sandwich was so dry and flavorless I had to try something. Used the bathroom and my daughter discovered a stall that one latch to the lock. a woman came out of another stall hearing our conversation, barley washed her hands and left. I discovered later that was the owner. when we washed our hands the paper towels were jammed and an elderly lady was stuck trying to get them out. I offered to help and saw the towel jammed and pushed on it. Something inside the dispenser stabbed my finger and I began to bleed but let it go. just a small puncture. Washed my hands again and used a napkin to stop the bleeding because the towel dispenser jammed again. Our second visit for Father's day (because my husband wanted to try them again) and again my daughter needed to use the restroom. still broken inside. Got my order for this visit. Beef hot plate advertised as thin sliced prime rib over bread with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. I added an extra side of sweet potato fries. They brought everyone's food and didnt bring my daughters chicken tender basket. We had to remind the waiter she ordered food. he didnt even care. He said "oh what did she get" and went and got some very dark chicken tenders. 3 small ones to be exact and a pile of fries smaller than my hand. this was an adult $14 meal..it looked right for a child portion. My husband ordered meatloaf and double mashed potatoes. his food did not even come close to covering the plate. very small portion. my $16 "sliced prime rib" was a tiny bit of chopped bits. like meat garnish not a meal. (i even removed the meat to show staff their was no meat it was all gravy) on top of a small bit of mashed potatoes that was placed on a plain piece of bread. the bread was not even toasted. just taken from a bag and put on the plate. the green beans were canned, not seasoned, and sogged the whole plate because they were not even drained. you could see the meal swimming in the green bean juice and this was after my bread soaked up as much as it could. unable or willing to eat this soggy bread meal with no meat I asked for the manager. only to discover the woman in the bathroom the first visit WAS the owner!! She was lack luster in her care. seemed more annoyed. we waited 40 min not including the 15 min we spent standing for a table in a half full restaurant with plenty of tables. She said the beans were seasoned but i even showed her. no ham bits. no bacon. not even pepper visible. they were bland and soggy. She did ask to make something else and considering the long wait, the fact my family already had food i asked "do you know how long it will be?" expecting "oh ill make sure this gets done first and is out quickly!" she instead replied with "i really dont know." with that i didnt feel good about the idea. and sure enough my family, starved by then, finished their meager portions quickly. For the price you get less food on a plate than a Culver's fast food dinner plate. Astounding. Will not be back. Very disappointing. It is also dirty. the menus have a layer of grime but they are laminated for easy cleaning.

I just have to give some well-deserved credit to the McDonald's in Lexington, Missouri. Honestly,…read moreit's one of the cleanest and most well-kept locations I've ever been to--definitely cleaner than any I've seen in the Kansas City area. You can tell the owner really takes pride in this place. It's always being cleaned, and everything looks like it's in good repair. Unlike some city locations that smell like a sewer the minute you walk in--this one is fresh, bright, and welcoming. The staff here is another huge plus. Every time I go through the drive-thru, they're friendly, smiling, and actually greet you at the window. That might sound simple, but it's rare these days. In the city, I've literally had my food handed to me with no eye contact, no thank you--just tossed out the window like they were done with me. The Lexington crew actually seems happy to be there, and that makes a difference. I've seen people complain about having to wait a few minutes, but let's be real--some McDonald's drive-thrus I've been in have trapped me for 30 minutes or more. If it seems slow here sometimes, it's clearly because they're understaffed, not because the employees are doing a bad job. That's a bigger issue for corporate to figure out, not something the local team should be blamed for. Honestly, this place is a gem. People around here might take it for granted, but if they had to deal with some of the places I've been to in the city, they'd realize how good they've got it. This little small-town McDonald's is doing it right, and it deserves way more appreciation.
