Well, I recently decided to finally put that can in the recycling bin and actually make it over to Wiener Kitchen....and...OH MY GOD IT'S AMAZING!!!! Why have I wasted so many weeks of my life not knowing how delicious the food is here? When the staff realized it was my first visit, they gave me the entire rundown of the food cooked onsite and the fact that you can also purchase their meats to cook yourself at home. It's a pretty small area for eating, but that won't stop me from coming back again and again because I can't believe how much I enjoyed the Chorizo Rojo and the Jalapeno Cheddar Kielbasa! I also had the Chicken Apple which was good, but the other two were the stars of my tastebuds. The restaurant itself isn't that big but the guy behind the counter was full of life and energy and the place has a nice vibe. You go up to the counter to order and they have several different sausage options including vegan. Since it was my inaugural visit I went with the Old School famous dog and some Sweet Onion Maui chips. The sausage link was really tasty and it had an assortment of toppings on it along with it being in a fancy hot dog shaped dish. My only complaint is The serving dish. it's A substantial sized entree and difficult to pick up so you have to eat it with a knife and fork and it's difficult to maneuver in the hot dog shaped tray. Someone In our group got the wagyu jerky and shared with us. And as a side note I don't think that was very successful as it didn't really taste like much of anything. And when I think of wagyu, I want a nice fatty piece of meat, not a dried out chunk of shoe leather.

Morty not only welcomed me, but asked my name, what I did for a living, and how satisfied I was with my job within the first minute of meeting. A natural at conversation and customer service skills - my new best friend that I had never met. While he prepared my dogs, I asked him about the "ripper" sauce that is on the menu. Not only did I get a sample of his handmade recipe, but the origin story of how he discovered it while serving in the military in Germany. It was a sweet / tangy mustard and onion concoction that I will definitely order on my next trip if it's available on his rotating menu at that time. My Chicago Dog and Chili Cheese Dogs were perfection. The Chicago Dog had all the proper fresh ingredients with a Vienna Beef dog and a soft poppy seed bun. With one bite I was transported back to my frequent Chicago Dog lunches when living in Chicago almost 30 years ago. The Chili cheese dog was just as magical with a creamy warm cheese sauce between the soft bun and dog and then covered in a no-bean saucy meat chili...just as God intended. Morty's is only open 7 hours a week - 11:00am - 1:20pm W, TH & FR, so plan accordingly and go meet my new best friend and get a couple of life's simple all-American pleasures.

I'm guessing it's seasonal since it's outdoor seating only. But there is ample covered seating and the service is exceptional. They use super quality ingredients getting their meat from Paradise lockers- premium meat. I ordered the "East meats West" and it did not disappoint. I got the regular dog for my daughter. I was very excited that they had Mr. Pibb cans as it's my favorite. The buns themselves could be eaten plain. They are buttery, the perfect amount of sweet and grilled to perfection. The menu is very simple - hot dogs, Italian sausage, Italian beef sandwiches, and French fries, with Italian ice available for dessert. The Italian beef is just like I remember from my trips to Chicago. The giardiniera was a little spicier than I've had previously which means I liked it more that others I've had. And the sausage - oh man, you need to try it. They make their own sausage from the owner's father Benedetto Mammina's recipe and it is good and tasty. My only slight knock is they don't currently offer iced tea, but hopefully that's something they can easily add in the future. I'll definitely be returning to check it out again.

Two of the three girls working the bar and tables were new, one only her second day and they were SWAMPED! So service was a little slow and some drinks made by the new girl were a little off but she was super friendly and was honest and upfront that it was her first time making some of these drinks and we were just grateful she was trying so service was able to move faster. The raved artichoke dip is WORTH IT!! We literally scraped the bowl clean!! Entrees were all good and to make up for the craziness of the evening either the owner or manager seemed to notice and apologized by offering our table a massive slice of their bread pudding and ice cream on the house It was a very sweet gesture and for that reason I would probably return to give them another try
