My wife and I live in Buckner and we would drive down 24 highway to Lexington just to get some burgers from Made-Rite. Not only was it a nice little ride out there but then we got to snack on it on the way home. Much like the Restaurant mugs up in independence, they serve loose meat, hamburgers, and a variety of other things. We always got the maid-rites with cheese, extra pickles, and onions, followed up with a large order of onion rings or two, and some delicious root beer. The service there is quick and friendly. This is an old school Drive up carhop restaurant. There's no seating inside. And while you're there drive across the street to their City Hall and check out the cannonball hole in the front of the building. read more

I am from California, and have always been curious about loose meat sandwiches since I've learned about them from watching the old 90s sitcom, Roseanne. I was very surprised when I arrived at this Maid Rite - it looks a little run down, but that's because it's a historic drive-in that was established in 1946. It's a tiny shack, so we ended up ordering from our car instead of going inside. We ordered 2 Cheese-rites with American cheese, tater tots and fries. The sides are a lot smaller than I'm used to in terms of portions, and I wish I got a second sandwich because it was pretty small, too. Despite the portion size (as compared to the glossy photos on their corporate website), the food was delicious, the meat was very moist and tasty. If you like ketchup, as for a tub instead of those to-go packets. It makes it so much easier. I wish they opened a Maid-Rite in Northern California! read more

Worst service ever!! Waited an hour on my lunch break to never received my order . As a matter of fact I watched the girl take it to another vehicle. I pushed the button to ask why I haven't got my order? I was told that they gave my order to someone else. No attempt to make it right . And was extremely rude !! The building is still very much the same since the 50s/60s I believe. The loose meat burgers are great and their crinkle cut fries are the best! I also love their chili. I top it off with their finely chopped onions. For dessert my favorite is the banana split tornado...Amazing. Do yourself a favor and give Maid-rite a try. read more

Was visiting the area and wasn't planning on eating. Drove by this place and decided to try it. Prices are low compared to other places with a similar menu. But the food was really good. We were on a day trip and stopped here for lunch. Restaurant was closed inside because they're short staffed so there was a steady stream of cars ordering outside. We ordered and then pulled into another parking lot so business could keep moving. We got 2 original maid rite sandwiches and a cup of chili - both were fantastic and the chili was still piping hot after we'd finished the sandwiches. Ordered a Made-right burger w/ the works and onion rings ... turned out to be a good combo (and a soft serve ice cream cone for desert). Had a bite of the tenderloin sandwich, which was also good. on our lunch break, my coworkers and i were suggested to go to this place. We got there and we had high hopes, it looked promising. we ordered a simple order, just two bacon cheeseburgers with everything, some cheddar rites, mushrooms, and three Pepsi's. about 30 minutes later, we see one of their delivery girls give an order that looks just like ours to the truck that's three stalls down. 30 more minutes later, they're bringing out more orders and look confused, and every vehicle around us has left and new vehicles have showed up. we tried waiting patiently. needless to say, we sat for an hour, and didn't get our food. the man who took our order did not try to make it right in any way shape or form. would not recommend this place in lexington. read more

Maid-Rite is selling franchises again, and I've been to one of the new Maid-Rites in the KC metro. Shiny, expensive, photos of '57 Chevys. This isn't one of those. This is the old-school real deal. This is killer onion rings and the world's most deadly chili. Chili that stains styrofoam, chili wih no discernible ingredients but finely ground meat, chili powder, and possibly onion, and, BTW, salt. It's an hour's drive, they're closed Sundays, but OMG, kids, if you REALLY want to go to a 50's drive-in, this is it, none of that crapola with broadly smiling waitresses in skin-tight pants on rollerskates. read more
