It was much better under the previous owner. Back then, it actually felt like a true old-fashioned soda shop with charm and character. Now, it feels more like "old" is being used as an excuse to cut corners rather than create a nostalgic experience. We paid $80 for a sundae and three two-scoop ice creams, which would be ok if the quality matched the price, it didn't. The portions were small, and the sundae barely had any toppings/sauce. The ice cream was ok, nothing special and not worth the price. The ambiance is off. There's a difference between "old-time charm" and outdated. The décor feels tired not intentional, and the atmosphere lacks warmth. Even the staff were disengaged, no smiles, no welcoming energy. It really feels like a step down from what it used to be. Nice old style soda shop with mini golf and an arcade. The ice cream was on point, although a little pricey. They could offer a smaller size for kids for shakes and such but only have 12 or 20 oz. for those. My main complaint is the allowance of someone's dog inside, which was NOT a service animal. I am all for service animals because they are specially trained. The other customer's dog was a house pet and again, NOT a service dog. To me, this is a potential violation of health code because it is a food serving establishment and should not allow pets and dogs inside where food is being consumed on premises. It's a concern for other customers who may have allergies or germ concerns. Additionally, other customer's dog licked on my small child because dog owner was not watching dog well. Now this is not the business's direct fault in my opinion, but they should look into enforcing a no pets policy inside. That's the only reason I docked 2 stars. I wouldn't dock a star for price point alone. Shop Owner maintains stock and atmosphere well and the presentation of the entry and seating is fun, like an old style soda shop. I will come back here. This is a neat little shop. They have ice cream, candy, sundaes, banana splits, video games, and miniture golf. I wanted some ice cream concoction, but did not want any think big like a banana split. I opted to go with a banana sundae. I got carmel apple as the ice cream in it. You can get ice cream in various types of cones, a cup, or as a shake. The staff was very friendly and provided suggestions. She let me try a few samples until I was able to decided. The shop has a small dining area with booths and individual mini jukeboxes. There is also a small game room with video games and pinball machines. There is another room that is adjacent to that one that has coin operated kid rides. The shop is decorated like at 60's malt shop and has a classic vibe. I was really digging it. My ice cream was good, but it was very small. It filled about half of the cup. It also was a little light on toppings like the nuts. This is an OK shop. I was not wow'ed and it was average compared to other similar shops. read more

We love going here after Thursday night dinner. The last couple weeks have not been pleasant. The girl that serves us never smiles and has this awful look on her. Loved this soda shop that is located in the charming Old Town of Slidell. We were getting pizza across the street, so while waiting decided to pop over with our dog and get a soda to go with our meal. Having recently tried the Dr. Pepper Fantastic Chocolate, we went with a 20oz Chocolate Cola, and it was perfect. It was very cool to watch them mix the cola syrup and chocolate flavoring with soda water the old fashioned way. They even saw my girlfriend waiting outside with our dog and offered him a pup cup! We were so grateful for their kindness. We didn't spend much time there as we had to get back to our pizza, but we did see mini golf and an arcade, which can only add to the great time you could have hear! read more

I have had this bookmarked for some time now as one of my friends wrote an award winning review of it. Located in a pocket of Slidell I had not yet been to that is cute and advertised as "Old Town" Slidell, parking can be an issue as it is all street parking in this area. It is an old school style diner that has hundreds of ice cream scoops on display on the walls, a jukebox, and wonderful booths and tables that look like some place the Cunningham's would have come to. Everything is so neat and clean inside. I ordered too much food for one person on a diet. I got the Frito pie that had a layer of cheese on top, chili, and Fritos inside. This was perfection. I could not get enough. I got the roast beef, fully dressed, on rye. It came with a pickle spear and plain ruffled potato chips. Oh. My. Goodness. It was yummylicious! I seriously enjoyed every last bite. I then got a scoop of bubble gum ice cream that was an utter delight. The Soda Shop is a great place to grab a bite to eat. I'm particularly fond of the chicken salad sandwiches here. They also serve hamburgers, roast beef, BLTs and hot dogs...your typical small cafe type of fare. The real star here is the ice cream. It's all made there in the shop and its so creamy and delicious. They have shakes and malts of any flavor you can imagine. Banana splits and root beer floats...oh my. They also give fantastic birthday parties for children. For around $200.00 you'll get a private room, a party attendant who takes care of everything, a cake, decorations including the cups, napkins, etc., ice cream sundaes for each child and drinks. I've had several parties here and barely had to lift a finger. They take great care to make sure that your child AND you thorougly enjoy the party. read more

Disappointed! We celebrated our twins' 4th princess birthday party at the Soda Shop. We chose the package "Princess Themed Party with visit from Princess". For two hours, plus the cost of the princess, I paid $550. The owner of the soda shop hosts the princess parties but had an emergency and couldn't host mine. Her staff stepped in and was absent most of my party. The lemonade and tea had residue in the containers. There was barely any ice for the drinks. The room was quite warm and there was no background music. I was left to host the party by myself because most the time I couldn't find the staff to help navigate the party. Yes, we did make an ice cream sundae and made the princess crown craft. We did NOT participate in old fashioned party games, the princess forgot the face glitter for the birthday girls, the princess did NOT sing multiple songs, the princess did NOT have a fairytale story time with the kids. When I asked the princess if she was going to sing songs during the party, she explained she was "sick", yes she used that word, and wanted to save her voice for one song at the end of the party. In trying to resolve my concerns with the soda shop, specifically with the owner, I was told twice I would receive a call back after the owner wanted to review the video tape to understand my concerns. Instead of apologizing for the missing services, the owner explained she knows her staff needs more training and that her staff was likely nervous as this was their first time hosting alone without her. How is this my problem? My party should not have been the guinea pig. I was left to navigate the party, mostly by myself, and I had no idea what to do. Our party was early April and it has taken 3 months for the owner to resolve my concerns by offering half-off my next birthday and 4 free passes to mini golf. I will never refer anyone to the soda shop for birthday parties. $550 is a lot of money for the little amount of services received. I can never get those memories back. As for the "sick" princess, the soda shop explained the princess is a separate add-on from what they provide. That her fee of $200 covers her time, maintenance of costume and wig (dry cleaning is $65) and goes towards her weekly vocal lessons. I don't care what the fee of $200 covers except the paid services I was expecting. The party is a Disney princess themed party. I was expecting multiple songs from the princess and I received one song, and yes, she did help open gifts with the birthday girls and braided one girl's hair. This princess is referred by the soda shop yet the soda shop is taking zero responsibility for her lack of services. Again, the princess forgot the face glitter for the birthday girls, the princess did NOT sing multiple songs, the princess did NOT have a fairytale story time with the kids and she admitted she was sick! I would have rather her cancel on my party than coming to the party, exposing kids with her sickness and not providing the services I paid for! Her company is called "Magical Moments by Bella". We ended up leaving our party 25 minutes early because everyone was standing around, staring at each other and the kids were BORED! read more

Stepping into this Old Town Soda Shop is certainly like stepping back in time, the owners have done a fantastic job at recreating memory lane from the decor to the homemade ice cream and sodas. I have a love hate with these ice cream counters that create their own unique flavors especially when I know this trip may be the only opportunity to indulge in their goodness. Fortunately for me they were very willing to share samples to help make the decision process easier. After trying several flavors it was oblivious that I would need to pick one, after browsing for a few more minutes it was clear the banana chocolate chip on a sugar cone was going to be my flavor of the day. One giant scoop packed into a sugar come so creamy and delicate nothing beats this homemade goodness. I am so glad we chose to carry these out and continue our trip otherwise I may have chosen a second scoop to validate my first choice. The service was exceptional the location is not very far off the interstate and so worth the short drive into old downtown. I absolutely love the old timey feel of this place once you walk inside. As soon as you walk in you feel like you are in a time warp. Not in a seperate drinking fountains kind of way but more like Marty McFly ordering a Pepsi Free kind of way. Once you open the door there is a big juke box full of old(and new) songs, and an old fashioned soda counter with 20 ish flavors of homemade ice cream, The guy behind the counter greets you complete with apron and paper hat. He spit's a 50's soda fountain look if you can look past his tattoo'd sleaves. The ice cream is great! The texture is perfect!. When you ask for a scoop in a cup, you get an old school metal ice cream cup that stays cold while you eat it. My daughters got bubble gum, cookies and cream, and cookie dough. All were great. They even had a flavor called Playdoh and it looked just like a bunch of different colors of Play-Doh mixed together. I tried to convince my kids to get it to no avail. Me? I just had an old fashioned nectar soda. So good. The only bad part is I got the smaller one as I wished for more. I guess I'll just have to go again. We enjoyed out treats at one of their booths while playing checkers that happened to be at the table. Each booth also has their own Jukebox but none worked so maybe it's just for decoration. There is also a video game room for the kids to spend more of your money. The only drawback is it's in Old Town next to a burnt down building and a few bars. What a great place to grab some ice cream! There were lots of families in the shop jonesing for something sweet. I love the shop's decor which shows the many different types of ice cream scoops sprawled out on their walls. Talk about creative decor! It's a nice little soda shop with old fashioned decor. here from time to time over the years. I passed through again for the first time in a while. There were 4 young girls working, one of which was working the kitchen. Decent staffing for a slow day. Anyway, I walked in, picked up a menu, and decided what I wanted. The 3 girls up front were huddled around each other sharing stories. It took several minutes to get their attention so I could place an order, and when I did, they were annoyed that I interrupted their conversation. As soon as I placed the order, they went back to starting their drama-filled conversation speaking of their issies with other girls and how drunk they got the night before. I loved their homemade ice cream! I had the jalapeno cream cheese in an old fashioned metal cup & the hubs had a cup of fudge ripple. Both were fantastic! The jalapeno had a sweet cream base flavor with a light heat that gets you in the back of the throat, I like that! :) I'm not a big fan of fudge ripple but I've had it over the years & i thought it was the best I've ever had. To go I had a scoop of bubblegum because it reminded me of getting it as a kid, had it the next day. The texture was still perfectly smooth and it was so good! Even my picky hubby liked it. He said it wasn't too sweet. Just right, even better than the kind I ordered as a kid. We loved the old fashioned experience and I highly recommend if you're ever in town!
