I have been excited to see this place in person for awhile! If you are coming from Kerrville make sure you take the exit before the chilis because of construction. It was fairly easy to find because of all the lights on the right of the road. Upon entering, the guys working the front did a great job with communication and checking us in. I must say all the workers would fabulous. It was very easy navigating and letting us know where to go. They have a fun little scavenger hunt you can do while looking at everything. There was lots to see and do. The live music was raising the roof! I totally recommend getting a hotdog and cocoa. They were both super delicious. Everyone that was working tonight was super friendly and made you feel welcomed. I had a great experience and would recommend bringing the kids! I had a great time and can't wait to go again!

This place was one of the best as far as Christmas lights go. You drive through a little bit at the beginning before you pull over to park (staff will guide you). The little town is so cute lit up! There was a Christmas light maze, TONS of picture opportunities, the Santa here looked like a real Santa, and THE PRICE! Most places are between 30-45 dollars to drive through, this was $32 after tax for 3 adults (using military discount) and it was worth every penny spent. It was fun to see the Longhorns, take photos with all the gorgeous lights, and support some local businesses. We even tried their hot chocolate and it's good, not watered down like most places do. The staff was really friendly too and made us more excited to come out and explore. Don't forget to read the tomb stones in the graveyard area, a lot of them were pretty funny. Already planning my next trip, you won't regret it.

My kids (3, 6, and 9) had an absolute blast at this place. There enjoyed all the photo ops and small activities to do. My son enjoyed their light maze and my daughter took her meeting with Santa very seriously! I was a little disappointed that the children didn't get to sit on Santa's lap. She was so excited to tell him what she wanted for Christmas but when we approached, he didn't say much. I had to initiate the conversation with "she's so excited to tell you what she wants for Christmas!" No big deal, maybe with COVID, there's a reason they don't do Santa's lap? It's really just a waving Santa with a photo op. I also recommend that everyone eats before attending! They do have a few food vendors but the food was extremely overpriced and not very good at all. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and the patty tasted like it was a frozen patty from my elementary school lunch days. I also ordered asada tacos and asada fries from another good vendor. Very bland. Overall paid about $150 for a family of 5 experience (tickets, food and hot chocolate). If I were to do it again, I'd only purchase tickets and eat before visiting.

This was my first Christmas light fest in San Antonio so I don't have much to compare it to. My friends and I decided to come out here for something to do and to get into the Christmas spirit. So, I personally think the $17 per person price tag is kind of steep, so I went online and got the $50 pass ($57 with fees) for 5 people. The drive out there was kind of dark and then up over the hill you start to see Christmas lights, once you enter into the ranch there are Christmas light displays on each side and once you pass the area to pay you come into an amazing light tunnel (which was pretty awesome). There are more light displays after, that lead you to park into the area covered by rocks. You then enter into Santa's village which was really cute. There was a scavenger hunt for kids and some vendors located inside some of the buildings. They also had a bungee bounce swing, food truck, bucking bull, fire pits, and a projector playing cartoons. Lots of stuff to do for the kids. Hot chocolate ($3) was located inside the same building as Santa (free). They also had beer, wine, and water for sale. Kettle corn and cotton candy for sale as well. One building had a photo booth ($7) and that was super cute! Not a lot of people on Sunday night, we overall had a great time! Started to get chilly during the evening so dress in layers or be sure to bring a jacket!

Driving through the light tunnel and strolling through the various familiar holiday scenes is a WONDERFUL way to get in the holiday spirit. The Old West theme and campfires are just perfect. My husband and I came across the guys the laser tag booth. I admit I was hesitant to give it a go at first but I am so so glad we went for it. That was THE MOST fun I've had in years. Y'all HAVE to try it. I highly recommend this as your next date night or family night out! Seriously, just go!

Had a magical time with our kids. The lights were amazing and then you get to get out and visit the Old West Christmas town. Here you can mingle with Santa and drink cocoa. The staff were superb and it was very well organized. They had a scavenger hunt that kept the kids excited and engaged. This may become a family holiday tradition for us.

I'm so excited to have stopped in for this adventure! This new light show is located in the hill country This place truly is magical! The first thing I noticed was the blanket of stars that covered the sky!! What a better canvas for the backdrop for the Christmas light show on your way in and out of the ranch?! When you park and enter the village, it is cleverly staged as a western scene, like out of a movie. This western included a saloon, church, fire pits, cattle pens, etc. There was tons of things for children which included Santa, s'mores by the fire, karaoke, trampoline bungee jump, corn hole, scavenger hunt...the list goes on. For the adults, there was beer for sale, vendors for shopping, professional family photography for purchase, and food trucks. What a great family event during the holidays!!

Absolutely blast this place is so adorable set up like a little western town. They have delicious food vendors on site with sausage, kettle corn, corn in a cup tacos etc... they also have several pits for s'mores!!! Sooo many opportunity for cute pictures this place is family fun but also fun for dates!

Old West Christmas Light Fest is even more fun in its new location at Enchanted Springs Ranch. There are still beautiful light displays--including a tunnel--as you drive in. Once you park, there is an Old West village decorated with lights. Kids will love the scavenger hunt to find all the "Wanted" posters of longhorns. Many of the buildings in the village have activities inside, including Santa visits, face painting, and shopping. There are s'mores kits for sale and fire pits for roasting marshmallows. The village has so many activities, like the mechanical bull, bungee jump, hay maze, and a movie screen. We really enjoyed Old West Christmas Light Fest in its new location.

Okay fellow Yelpers...where do I begin?!? I will start by saying that I have been to nearly every Christmas light display in the region. With that you may be underwhelmed driving through the light display until you realize that it is only the entrance to the parking lot. The Ol' Santa Ranch is alive again and even more fun then before and beats my favorite Don Strange on overall entertainment. Great friendly people working here. A lot of activities for the child's fun scavenger hunt for the kids. A great looking Santa. Oh and there is SPACE. You can actually breathe. Small shops, saloons and bars are filled with refreshments, face painting, vendors, cookie decorating, several fires to roast up those mallows and even letter writing to Santa. Many of the kid activities are free and only request donations to support Vault. Very Texas and extremely fun. Even the wine was Texan, Gotta love Becker! Oh did I mention Karaoke ! ...It's Christmastime There's no need to be afraid... I'll fight you for the Bono part!

Other places we've been to in the past like this charge a per-car fee. At first I was a little bit sticker shocked at the price per person ($17), but it quickly became worth it. There's a short drive out to a Western town, illuminated by lighting displays, a drive-through tunnel, and reflections on a lake. The Western town had a scavenger hunt to find all of Santa's longhorns, a hay maize for kid's to run through, running Christmas movies, Santa, hot cocoa and coffee, a small shop, and a play area for kids. As an adult, I enjoyed the many twinkling lights and warm glow of the fire. It was such a great stop! One suggestion for management is to have cars have their headlights off when driving through (there's plenty of lights to illuminate the road and the glare of LEDs behind you can ruin the effect of the displays).

This was a really fun event. They had a sort of treasure hunt from the start where you locate all the different cows they have out there, which are represented on informational placards. There are so many places to take great photos, not to mention the giant bridge that is wrapped in lights as you drive in. For Texas, this is as close as you can get to a winter wonderland. It seems there are millions of Christmas lights. Food stations were great as well as the drink selections. Cool place.

My family got a chance to join ACMB here last night. Although the heavy rains on Friday and the cold front had come in, the night was amazing. The light display on the drive in was beautiful and whimsical as well! We enjoyed heading throughout the old west town and checking out the shops, live music, decorating cookies, and seeing the live longhorns. My nine year old loooved the scavenger hunt that took us to all the places to find the posters of longhorns who pull Santas sleigh in Texas(of course!. We enjoyed some hot chocolate, pizza, and...s'mores!! Perfect place to put us in Christmas spirit!

In life people aren't always on the ground making snow angels. Nor are Christmas Carollers going to come to your door to bid you good tidings. However, I'm slowly learning if you let your guard down ever so slightly, a beam of light can peek through. "Dickens on Main" in Boerne understands that the Christmas we celebrated as children is the same one we carry with us into adulthood. Me and my partner have been wanting to do it for years, but it's only available once a year. And at that, for two days. I will tell you the basics of it. It is a morning celebration that segues into a huge night extravaganza. It opens at 12pm but Main Street closes its streets from passage by vehicle at 4pm. We opted to go early before the streets were closed. When we arrived almost all parking was nonexistent. Businesses do offer a park and pay option but every lot was full. By sheer luck we were able to find free parking. Main Street is a succession of small local businesses. But during "Dickens on Main" it turns into an idyllic, winter wonderland. If you've ever watched a Hallmark Christmas movie and wished it could become a reality, this would be that opportunity. Garland is hanging everywhere. In every nook and cranny Christmas Spirit is prominent. They even have a snow machine that blows artificial snow onto festival-goers. The sidewalks are overflowing with people going into stores to shop. For example there are antique shops. Places that sell beauty products. A super expensive meat market. Jarred pickles. And of course my favorite shopping: three watering holes all within walking range. By in large the Main Courtyard is the piece de resistance. All things eventually converge here. It is decorated much like Main Street with: ornaments, candy canes and giant Nutcracker figurines. There are Dickensonian Carollers dressed in traditional Victorian fashion walking the grounds. Followed by the litany of vendors selling crafts, food or last minute gift ideas. All my senses the whole time were engaged and overwhelmed. It is alot to take in. While I enjoyed it I do have two critiques. Since the sidewalks are extremely narrow there was not a time where either I was in someone's space. Or vice versa. My suggestion would be to close Main Street to traffic all day and allow the overflow onto the streets. Secondly, they need to do what Wustfest does and offer shuttle bus service. Festival goers could pay a fee to park and be shuttled to the event. When we left at 4pm I saw people parking far and wide just to walk into the event. I definitely would recommend it to the person who wants to share a unique Christmas experience with family, friends or loved ones. Even "The Grinch" cannot escape its charms. "Dickens on Main" is a very special festival if Christmas is your thing. Me, I'm still waiting for a holiday created with craft beer in mind. Santa, I hope you're listening! I've been nice-kinda- sorta- most of the year.

An event that will make you feel like you're in a hallmark movie. After hearing that, I was sold and knew I had to attend. This year, I made it a point to get my family together for it and off we went. The weather wasn't ideal but the event itself was perfect and as expected! Main Street was shut down at 4PM so people could walk in the street, enjoy the fun and vendors (and also enjoy an adult beverage while shopping). The vendors were dressed up an in character, there were Carolers and tons of fun little food stands in the different "villages". We enjoyed food from some of the restaurants on the street (like a giant cinnamon roll from Richter Bakhaus) as well as vendor foods like the puffy funnel cakes. This is a fun family-friendly event that is great for a couple or for a family with kids! I will definitely be returning next year!

The staff was nice, and mentioned that Santa's Village would be in the middle, we could stay as long as we liked, and we were encouraged to wear our mask and socially distance if we got out. There was also signage instructing us to tune to 98.7 FM. After that, we were forced to lower our expectations greatly. If you've seen the grand displays in Windcrest, driven through Santa's Ranch near San Marcos, or visited Santa's Wonderland near College Station, Don Strange's Christmas at the Ranch will leave much to be desired. As for Santa's Village, it was a barn type structure with many people gathered at the main entrance. For the safety of our family during Covid, we skipped the opportunity to see Santa, shop the vendor tables, or purchase food. The entire drive through the ranch took 20 minutes, and there wasn't a strong rhyme or reason to most of the displays - random Disney, Peanuts, and other characters and light displays mixed oddly with blowup displays or that lone video snowman display. Since we had our lights off, it was difficult to see the road after leaving Santa's Village, and the main entrance to enter the ranch was very narrow for most vehicles, especially the decked out pickup trucks. Once you're in, the line to enter the light display is pretty organized. I can't recommend visiting and paying $25 during Covid, yet maybe next year if things are back to normal.

The challenge for them is to present their program in an approachable manner to the city. Fortunately for them this year's roster of artists were contemporary, hip and best conveyed their mission. The pros 2017: 1.) The eclectic selection of international artists. The performers I saw Zoe Keating, a Canadian looping based cellist and Indonesian jazz prodigy Joey Alexander totally represented the MBAW's message of inclusivity. 2.) The selection of venues. For example Zoe Keating's show was held at the historic Ursuline Chapel, a part of the Southwest School for the Arts. The combination of ambience, acoustics and the intimate seating lended to a very memorable show. 3.) Admission. Most of the shows were either free or a nominal fee was being charged. Without this net families might not be able to attend, due to the expense. The cons 2017: 1.) My only critique, which was the same as last year's : Some, not all patrons. There is an etiquette for every situation and every situation is unique. The thing that should be consistent is a basic common courtesy to your fellow (wo)man. And this begins with a respect for personal space. At a performance a patron stood right next to me(the show was a seating event)coughing, nudging me and disrupting the flow of the performance. In addition a family brought their children, who grew impatient and threw an outburst. I know these are minor glitches to be expected at a show. However I feel the niceties that we extend to people at any event should be reciprocated. I did enjoy MBAW this year. The selection of artists and venues best represented their message and can serve to reach the greater community. In the near future I'd like to see them stage shows in different venues or spaces across the city. Mozart in the Eastside at Dignowity Hills. "Swan Lake" in the Westside at Rosedale Park.
