I have purchased two sewing machines from Judy and I love them both. I've also had numerous quilts quilted by them and they always look beautiful when finished. Wouldn't consider going anyplace else for that service. The fabric and other items I have purchased seem to always be of good quality. Old City Quilts is a great shop. Everyone there is super nice, and they make you feel at home. For a dude getting into quilting it's not intimidating at all. The ladies there really enjoy what they do, and they will answer any stupid questions you might have. The fabric selection is really big. And, all of it is high quality fabric. They have pretty much anything you're looking for. Old City Quilts is a Bernina machine dealer, and the machines they use for the classes are all Berninas. I bought a machine there no. Too long ago, and Judy (the owner) was very patient with all my question. She also told me about their upgrade program, where within the year I can upgrade machines and the cost of the old machine is put towards the new one! How can you go wrong. read more

Fantastic shop in a quaint small town business district. Went there with a friend and we wandered all over the shop asking tons of questions and the staff were so patient and helpful. I was suggested to take my sewing machine here for a tune-up by my husband's co-worker. I am new to the area and I was appreciative of the advice. I called ahead to find out more about bringing a machine in. The lady on the phone was polite and let me know that it would be about $80 if there wasn't anything wrong with my machine. She also let me know that it would be 7-10 days until I got my machine back. I was okay with all of this since my machine was struggling and needed to be looked at by someone more experienced. I took my machine up and was not even welcomed when I walked in. A young lady took my information for my machine and let me know the same information that the lady on the phone did. I explained to her that I had never been in the shop before and I was shrugged off. I looked around for a bit, but felt very unwelcome. I dropped my machine off on a Thursday evening and was called on Tuesday. I was impressed and hoped that my next visit would be better. Sadly, I was wrong. When I got to the store, I was greeted after I walked in, but that was all. I waited in line while others were being taken care of. After everyone in front of me was taken care of, a man asked if he could help. I told him I was there to pick up my machine and told him my last name. He retrieved my machine, but left it with one of the ladies so I could pay. The lady at the counter gave me the total $80.20 which was expected at the least. I assumed that it only needed a good cleaning and oiling considering the price. I asked if this was the case and was told it only needed general maintenance. I was then promptly given my receipt. I, again, felt very unwelcome in the store. I left with my newly cleaned machine about an hour ago. I tried it out after I got home and am happy with it. Sadly, I realized after the fact that my barely used spool of thread that I took in with my machine did not come home with me. I will probably not be returning with my back-up machine. I will try to find a place with friendly staff. Polite is a good quality, but it only goes so far. read more

DO NOT HAVE YOUR MACHINE FIXED HERE! Worst botch job on my Bernina, looks like my unskilled grandpa fixed (sorry grandpa). Now I have to pay someone else to fix it properly. I mean they literally just jammed an screw and nut in the machine where it doesn't go. The face plate is now crocked and my arm is 1/8" hanging but it's bolted down. I can't even believe it. And for your $75 cleaning they only clean out the bobbin and thread area- god forbid they wipe anything else down. GO TO HAYES! They clean every inch of your machine for less- they won't dare give it back to you with a speck of dust on it. I would be afraid to have my good scissors sharpen here after this! read more

If you're needing a reel of thread, a pair of scissors or you're just looking for some company this is a great place to go. If, however, you want to spend some serious cash on a serious machine - BEWARE ! We paid $14,000 for a Bernina 16 Needle Embroidery machine with the promise of Tech Support and training. We visited their showroom and were impressed by the bright attractive, spacious property and they had a machine we could look at but were unable to demonstrate as the Embroidery Tech (their son) wasn't there. We felt we could trust this pleasant married couple, Judy & Rob and we were assured of their ability to offer us the backup & training we/I needed. So, we went ahead and ordered. Delivery was within a week and we were delighted. There was an expensive missing piece of the order which took another four weeks to get to us. I received the machine and all accessories over a 6/8 week period, they screwed up orders, quotes and ended up telling me how lucky I was that because of their errors I was getting more accessories than I should have. Their "Tech Support" is in college and works no more than two days per week (part time) and the same guy does their training. When the machine never worked properly, the response was always "you'll need to call Bernina" and in the end, when it started making knocking noises, I was told they'd had similar symptoms and they'd just worked through it- "call Bernina.." I did and found that a memo had been sent out around when I purchased the machine, recommending Dealers tighten two screws on the rotary cutter and seal with Loctite. This simple fix was the problem with my machine but the loosening of the screws resulted in the cutter blade getting bent. Bernina sent out the required parts Friday. When I contacted the dealer Monday, they had received the parts, however, I was given the following Friday as the earliest they could help me. ! One week to help a customer with a problem caused by the manufacturer ? When I said that was not acceptable they told me to bring it in to them and they'd do their best to get it ready within the week. This machine is large, heavy(150lbs) and extremely delicate. I spoke with Bernina who suggested I install myself with no risk to my warranty & called Olde City to arrange to collect the parts and spoke to one of the owners, who was sarcastic & rude, so Tuesday noon I collected the parts (one of the owners saying "good luck with that !)and in the afternoon I ended up doing it myself with Manufacturer tech support. Now, this machine works better than it has since arrival, final evidence that Olde City tech support was ineffective and customer service - horrible ! read more

This store not only has a ton of different fabric patterns and solids but they give long arm classes and you can rent their long arms by the hour to machine quilt your projects!!! They have a second floor project room to spend the day working on your stuff with like minded people (fabric obsessed) I am hoping to do one of their quilting retreats eventually! Great store people too! Easy street parking, coffee shop and ice cream down the street. read more

Most likely the best quilt shop I've ever been to (and my friends and I have been to a lot of them!). The selection of quality fabric is second to none, staff extremely helpful and informative. If quilting is your thing you can easily spend half a day wandering around this very large shop. Everything is beautifully displayed which makes it a real treat.
