Super disappointing visit to this restaurant. Only 3 other tables were full and it took nearly an hour from the time we sat down to finally get our food. Incredibly slow service. The garlic bread that came with my ravioli was so tough I literally could not bite through it. My bf ordered prime rib and asked for medium but when it was delivered, the bartender said "best we can do is medium rare because it's the end of the night." Pretty bad service when you're paying $60 for a meal for two. My ravioli was mediocre at best. Ambience left something to be desired. There was a giant pile of extra chairs and random junk next to our table. I would not return and certainly not recommend it to others. read more

Took about 45 min to get our drinks. Place has 5 tables and One server so not like it was incredibly busy. Our server seemed drunk as he was forgetful and frankly smelled of alcohol and slurred his words. Food was ok, for the price I expected better quality and for sure better service. I read many positive reviews about the restaurant's prime rib. Based off the reviews, six (6) of us attempted to dine at the restaurant on Saturday night. Several phone calls for reservations went unanswered. When we arrived at 7:20 PM, a less-than-enthusiastic person immediately approached our group and said, "It is a 45 minute wait. If you want prime rib, we are out." They then walked away. We decided on a different restaurant. I'd guess customer service isn't something they strive for. Too bad, a party of six was really looking forward to prime rib. I also see a single $ for the restaurant; however, the "specials" listed inside the restaurant all showed prices around $25. Since we weren't offered a menu or encouraged to consider staying, I don't know if the single $ is warranted. read more

Great place in town for a quiet meal. You can smell the place from the street and see right into the kitchen. They have a dining section and a bar section. If you want s little more light and some standard wooden chairs, the dinning area is the way to go but we wanted the darker and cozier feel of the bar. You still have a cozy feel in the dinning area because it is not s huge place and the lights are all pretty dim. It's a great atmosphere for a quiet dinner. They have one TV so there will be some sports on. The place smells great from the food and they have a couple tables right by the fireplace. We got the steak special, spaghetti and meatballs, whitefish, and the filet. Both steaks were well cooked and had a great flavor. The whitefish was also tender and very delicious. The spaghetti and meatballs was pretty standard and comforting. The sauce had a fresh tomato taste and was very good the guys running the place were very nice. It wasn't a place to go if you are in a hurry because I think there was one guy in the back cooking but he did a good job. I would recommend this place for a quiet comforting dinner. Nice rustic ambiance. Why the dining room is not air conditioned and the bar is??? 20 degrees warmer in there! The wife had the tilapia after she was informed the Superior white fish was sold out and it was good. I ordered prime rib and after a 25 minute+ wait after the salads were finished and after others were served that came in after us, I was served a NY Strip seasoned and served like a prime rib. I noted this to the waiter and he disagreed and said it was prime rib. It was shaped like a strip (rectangular), trimmed on one side like a strip (perpendicular cuts into the side edge after the majority of the fat was trimmed away), I had to saw it with a steak knife like a strip and it was chewy like a strip with a small pile of gristle left on the plate when I was finished. It was a strip!! If there was any way it could have been a prime rib, surely the rest of the animal went through the grinder! I rarely need more than a fork or butterknife to consume a prime rib. Maybe they didn't want to admit they ran out of 2 specials, maybe they are into bait and switch, I don't know. The salads were very small but tasted fine and the mashed potatoes were good. read more

The prime rib is AMAZING! Though truthfully, that's an understatement. This is THE best prime rib that I have ever had. On top of that, it is incredibly inexpensive for what you get. If you're near here on a Saturday, get the prime rib. Seriously. The sides were only average. Ordering drinks was difficult as we used the menu and went through many options each before they started telling us what they actually thought they had. It was a bit comical. He would say he thought that they had something, then go look, and return with a different set of options. Also, don't expect dessert. We asked. Our server said that they didn't have anything. Then he decided that they do, sundaes, "all kinds of sundaes." I rolled my eyes. Then it got interesting. He started asking if we had ever been to Dairy Queen. Hearing that we had, his eyes lit up and he got super excited. He then gave us directions back into Wisconsin and to the DQ in the neighboring town. I don't think I'll ever forget the gleam in his eyes. Again, none of that matters. GET THE PRIME RIB! It isn't fast, it may be confusing, and the service will likely be memorable. read more

This was our first visit to the area. After a day of sightseeing, we stopped in Ironwood. We checked out Yelp to see where we could eat. Some places were closed, some had mediocre or bad reviews, but we saw good reviews for the Old Suffolk Ale House and decided to try it out. It was a Thursday night and when we got there we wondered if it was open. There was just one guy, presumably the owner. He assured us he was open and we could order anything off the menu. The food was fantastic! I had the meat pizza. The meats were all made on the premises and made for a unique and great pizza. My wife had an incredible seafood dish. Word of note: The website only lists a lunch menu. They had an extensive dinner menu as well. read more

I found this restaurant via Yelp and am so glad we got the chance to stop by while in town recently. This has got to rank up there with one of the most unique restaurant experiences we've had in quite some time. First of all I always do everything possible to stop by local in-town restaurants vs the chains on the main roads. The ambiance of the place jumps right out at you as soon as you enter. We were seated in the main dining area separate from the bar area and were the only ones there at the beginning so it was quiet and nice. We kind of cracked up at the waiter. T-shirt and shorts, and it looked like he got called in on short notice if the regular server didn't show. No idea if this is typical or not, but we found it funny. Also, aside from needing to remind him about my salad & beer, he did a decent job. The main reason I still went with 5-stars was because of the food. Holy smokes, we had enjoyable and flavorful meals. The broiled whitefish I had was among the best I've ever eaten, and I can see why many people keep going back again & again. I have no idea when the next time we'll find ourselves in Ironwood, but if we do make it in the future, the Olde Suffolk will be a definite stop. read more

13 years ago I moved from the Ironwood area to Minneapolis. When I visit I make sure to stop at the Olde Suffolk Ale House. My friends know I like good food and drinks. Being used to craft cocktails and micro-brewed beers I feel right at home. From fantastic martinis to the occasional ice cream drink (sorry guys) they never let me down. The food is top notch with a great selection. On my last visit I ordered the prime rib and to say it was one of the best I've ever had is an understatement. If you are in the area and looking for a great meal, great drinks and exception service this is your place. read more

I'd give this a 4 1/2 if they gave 1/2 ratings. Good food - good atmosphere. Our table had lemon butter raviolis with prime rib and spaghetti and meatballs. Can't remember exact price but it was well under $40 for the two meals and we had several drinks. Atmosphere is great. Beautiful fireplace when you walk in, long bar, cozy tables. It would be easy to sit at a side table and meet up w/friends or have a romantic dinner. It wasn't on the highway which makes it a bit harder to find. Not sure who thinks this place has the best prime rib as it was meh at best. Call to the restaurant went unanswered but a Group of us went for dinner anyway. Service was extremely slow even though it was half full at best on a Friday night. Food was mediocre at best and over priced. The atmosphere was too dark and the multi colored lights we distracting. Excellent food! I had one of the best New York strip steak of my life and believe me, I've had many. My husband's pork chop order was awesome as well. Besides the food, the service was also great, very welcoming and friendly. The place has its own charm, which we really enjoyed. First time to area, sadly the great reviews drew is to Suffolk Ale House. Our dinner experience was terrible as the place was filled with cooking smoke....so much so that by the time our dinners arrived it was downright foggy. We had to ask for a door to be opened (in February) to clear the air. Brrr. Food was good but not as good as the reviews. Sautéed mushrooms were from a can and one dinner was burnt and had to be returned while other steaks at the table were a little undercooked. It took over 1 hour for our dinners to arrive and all the other tables already had their food when we arrived. Luckily we are a fun group of people and could still have a good time together! read more
