Came up here to camp and stopped by Mike's Restaurant to enjoy a nice breakfast for the first time. We had many places to choose from and settled on this one. We came in and while busy the waitress told us anywhere is fine. It gives a very small hometown feel which we love. They have pepsi on tap but actually had bottled diet coke which was nice. The food was the highlight of the visit. Absolutely amazing. I ordered "The Farmers" the hash browns were crisped to perfection. The pancakes were well cooked and fluffy, the Italian sausage was scrumptious. The ham was flavorful. My partner got the French Toast, and she says "You wont finish all of it, but you'll want to!" read more

If have to agree with Roy P. It's old, outdated and pretty filthy, ta boot. Still it has a small town charm. From the little booths to the long counter that was there when we were kids. We've had three visits so far this year and the food is not even mediocre. No flavour, no spice and no charm. Be real. It's closer to a greasy spoon than a $$$$ steakhouse. The woman up front tries her best. She's professional, but not very pleasant. She's also running the place by herself, from the customer's viewpoint, least wise. It's a nice old established burger joint, but to play up the Italian fare is a big stretch. I'll be updating this in a month. We haven't tried breakfast yet. 02/25 read more

This was hands down the best breakfast I've ever had, i live in the lower peninsula and think about this place often even though I've only been once and that was back in October of last year. Servers were friendly and on top of everything, went with a group of 8 friends and we all talk about how great it was whenever we go to meet up for breakfast now, thanks you ruined other places for me lol. read more

OK I'll say it - best breakfast food I've ever had, and if there's some idea of a hefty breakfast done right then this is it. In the small city of Ironwood, we weren't expecting much from the food here - but this small town joint ended up blowing our minds and then some. The servings are large enough to feed a lumberjack (or 2 hikers preparing themselves for a 10mi hike in the Porkies, or a couple miles kayaking out in Superior), high quality, SO TASTY, and the whole place feels like a real rare kind of homey that I don't get living in Chicago. Partner and I got seated right away on a Saturday morning. We ordered the Farmers and Italian breakfast. Biggest Italian toast I've ever seen with a perfect crunch. Such delicious italian sausage, and HUGE! Yummy hash browns. I was so full at the end of it, I wanted to fall into a peaceful, perfect-breakfast induced slumber. Mike's restaurant looks like a typical small hole in the wall type restaurant, and it is. But wow, the burgers were excellent! I had a broccoli with cheese and ham soup, which was flavored very very well. I wish there's a little bit more cheese, but that's more of a personal preference than anything. The chili, my friend had was tasty as well. I know this seems silly, but the crackers on the side were stale so that was a little disappointing. The fries which was a side order for one of the burgers were tasty, but under salted. That's easy enough to fix at a restaurant, however. But the burgers, I cannot say enough good things about the burgers! Meat was tender, and definitely generous. The cheese covered the whole patty and dripped down the side. There were a ton of jalapeños available, and a generous salad on the side of lettuce and onions tomato. Our waitress was very helpful with ordering. She shared that all of the soups or homemade. And that the owners definitely take pride in the food they make. Where she was very kind she was covering the whole half of the restaurant, it meant she didn't come back as much, as it would've been nice to have had a drink refill. Great little spot in this small town, good for breakfast or lunch. We stopped in for breakfast and had to wait a little bit but got seated pretty fast. Although it's a small place, the servers are very efficient and friendly! We both got the farmers special which is plenty of food-enough to even share! It tasted great, my favorite being the hash browns, crispy and perfect. I gave a lower rating for not having any place to wait, there should be some seating at least outside, and also because the parking lot is a bit of mess, definitely needs to be redone. Wonderful little cafe serving immense portions of deliciously well-prepared food. So good! Five of us tried different entrees: open-faced turkey sandwich/Italian side salad, Olive Burger, Chicken Strips, Grilled Ham and Cheese, Chicken Wrap. OMG! Bread was soft and fresh, fries crisp yet moist, salad quite large, all was more than we could eat! Delicious! Would be a regular if we lived closer. Highly recommend! read more

Stopped by for dinner after a long road trip and left happy. The menu isn't super fancy but enough to satisfy most people. I went with spaghetti casserole and garlic bread not knowing the portion size... And it was gigantic! On top, they brought complementary fresh bread and chili to start with and for one person all of that was beyond a human can handle. They finished me with a free cake piece which I had to box... Every was delicious and very reasonably priced. Loved the restaurant and definitely recommend visiting here! read more

Our family of 11(from Mid state Wisconsin and Duluth Minnesota) just left Mike's restaurant after an amazing breakfast. They serve the largest Omlets that we have ever experienced. The homemade Italian breakfast sausage and large slices of Italian toast were delicious. The service was excellent. We were greeted warmly and received our food quickly. Look forward to coming back on another ski weekend. The facility is older but clean. read more

Solid restaurant in a small Western Upper Peninsula town. Went on a busy Saturday night. The restaurant was full and the one waitress was running around. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are HUGE - you'll definitely need a doggy bag. Food took awhile to come out but when it did it was hot and good. Great value with several courses for the dinner entrees. Bonus - small piece of complimentary cake at the end of the meal. Would come back - great location right on highway 2!! read more

We visited Mike's for breakfast this weekend and boy was that a treat. We wanted a good base for a long day of skiing and man-o-man. Ask and you shall receive! My biggest problem with breakfast is I can never decide what I want because I want to try everything. That's not a problem at Mike's! They have a lot of different combination plates and wow were those portions big. Everything was delicious. The bacon was crisp, eggs cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed lunch here. Homemade bread and great bacon on club sandwich. Good chili. Fries just okay. Great service - really full small place at lunch but server kept up well! Didn't love or hate the place. Actually I was debating leaving because it was rather warm inside and I wasn't thrilled with the menu. Ended up staying and had a salad, baked spaghetti, and the bread basket. I like it when places offer a bread basket lol. Meatball casserole was fine and came w teaser of spaghetti. I consider myself a cross culture foodie... Incredible great service super friendly food wow I think I'm still in a food coma awesome. I had the ground round smothered in onions and fries... It was basically a hamburger steak plate as what they call it down south... The onions was grilled to perfection the meat was cook perfectly!!! Ohh to end the meal with a slice of cake yes yes!! What a great find. We're crossing the UP on our way home from a fishing trip. I found Mike's on "Around Me" went to Yelp & saw the great reviews. Had a really good omelette served on a platter that kept it HOT until I finished it. My husband had pancakes & sausage. He really enjoyed the cakes, the sausage was homemade & spicy. What a sweet find! Super casual (not too pretty) venue serves as a hidden gem. The food is amazing! I was hooked after my dinner salad was served -- filled with three types of beans, olives, pepperocinni, cucumbers and the most crisp lettuce. My club sandwich was equally amazing: loaded with bacon, cheeses, deli meat and served on outstanding Italian bread. So hearty! My husband said his Grinder was equally good. I had the biscuits and gravy today and the biscuits were rubbery. I had to really struggle to get the biscuits apart with my fork. I wish they would have given me a steak knife. They must have been a day or more old. This is my second in a row bad experience with this place. Considering the prices are high I expect fresh food. read more

Stopped in here while on the road for work. There is a small diner style seating area near the front if you're by yourself or are a pair. The food was simple, good and fresh, and I could watch it being made. The waitstaff was friendly. The only weird experience was being asked what I was going to tip before having my credit card run to pay. Maybe I don't want the other people to know what I'm willing to tip for the simple service. But I kind of felt like it was the waitress's way of making you tip better than you normally would... as now you could be judged on it. read more

The portions make it worth your money, first of all. They are very generous. So if you're hungry, no worries, whatsoever. It's a very hearty, down-home cooking, an Italian-American restaurant. We are absolutely shocked at the great reviews of Mike's in Ironwood. Our dinner experience was just short of dreadful. Paid $27.85 for 2 open face hot sandwiches - turkey and chicken. The mountain of mashed potatoes were the dried instant kind from a box, the "gravy" was gelatinous and canned (same gravy on both meals) the turkey was skimpy and tasted like Stouffer's and the chicken was chicken tenders, on top of a thick piece of toast. The salads were crisp lettuce topped with thawed out frozen vegetables - ice cold and soggy - and beans. Very weird and unpleasant tasting. We were offered complimentary cake for dessert but the waitress came back and said there wasn't any left. We love neighborhood diners but this one was a total disappointment. read more

Well traveled, flavor seeking, good food enthusiast here. I have eaten here a few times and it's just not my cup of tea, I guess. Wait staff is nice, food is delivered promptly and all together to the table, but the food is really BLAND, except for the sausage, which is pretty good taste wise, but a little chewy and tough. Not one single item I have eaten here stands out except the sausage - which was okay, but not anything spectacular. However, I have not found any really good places to eat since moving here. So, in the grand scheme of things, this place hits middle of the row. Not the worst, but not the best. read more
