So all the Brittles... made there... the jellies.. made there... the flavored popcorn, made there.. actually most of the items you buy there.. are made there.. and they are delicious. It's owner/operated, and in this world of "craft" this, and "artisan" that.. this place doesn't need to say that, because they just are. They are the original craft artisans, using old techniques to make the most delicious things you can put in your mouth and chew on... Prices? not high.. consider the cost of things in general, and most of the items there are a "steal". I recommend the brittles.. because they are made there, and perfect. The jellies, also house made, are better than basically anything I have purchased in ages, and honestly, let's be real... they taste fresh made, because THEY ARE. Something just clicked within me last summer and suddenly I'm all about the chocolate. Chocolate truffles, chocolate fudge, chocolate everything. It's even become a part of my travel routine--actually, it's ESPECIALLY become a part of my travel routine. I seek out chocolates in a foreign city and hunt down dark chocolate, make a plan to find milk chocolate, grab a car to get caramels, and tally up toffee stops. On one afternoon during my trip to Vancouver, I was in North Vancouver and had already found one chocolate shop. The Yelp app told me about this place, just a few blocks from my hotel, and I decided it was worth investigating. Located in the Lonsdale Quay market, it's a booth with all the chocolate that you could ask for. I was there on a weekday afternoon, so they weren't busy, and I got to witness a lot of chocolate making right there behind the counter. After what seems like ages of my own hemming and hawwing, I was able to narrow it down and get a dark chocolate toffee and a peanut butter cup. I know, these seem rather generic, but it seems like the right thing to do when selecting only a couple of treats from a place--get the basics. If they do those right, you can give yourself the green light to go back for more. I put them in my bag, and having a load of chocolates already in my bloodstream I opted to pace myself and try them later. For my American friends, you should remember that peanut butter treats here are less, I dunno... potent, maybe? They're less potent, less sweet, and less overpowering. If you adjust your expectations you can realize that in taming the PB, you actually get a light, more true peanut flavor and can also taste the chocolate. Delightful. The chocolate on the toffee was dark and rich, and the sweet toffee underneath was the right complement. True, these were basic things and while they're not totally re-inventing chocolatier-ism, it's an absolute must that the market has chocolate and Olde World is a notable stop. read more

The store consists of a counter at the front where you ask a clerk to weigh and give you product(s) such as brittles and caramel. But, around the back, there's another section where you can browse in pails, bins and racks full of popcorn, candies and treats. The products in the back are either prepackaged or in bulk. It's self-serve if you want to buy bulk candies. Behind the counter are various contraptions that are evidence that SOME, but not all, of their treats are made fresh on a regular basis. read more

The chocolates are delicious here but customer service lacks by the owner and her husband. I just wanted to buy 6 pieces of chocolate for my boyfriend for Valentine's. My friend noticed the person was placing the chocolates in a take out Chinese box so she asked if it can be in a gold box as it's for Valentine's present. He told me I needed to buy more chocolates for the gold box. I was hesitant to buy more only because my boyfriend didn't even like chocolates but I just wanted to get him something at least. So I added 2 more. He even said I need more otherwise it would move around. I said it's ok. Anyways the owner who was in earshot started talking to the 2 of us in a loud voice saying how the employees at my company are demanding on making personal orders like this to expect full customer service. I didn't think what I was doing was a personal order that was so hard to do. Just 6 pieces, now 8 chocolates in a box. Even proceeded to give her business card to me to tell all the employees at my work to call in advance of their orders. Are you kidding me? I am not going to spam my company of 500! I expect at any chocolate store the customer can choose their chocolates and for the employee place into a box during their visit. How hard is that? I will never go back to this place for chocolates. Their chocolates are good but not that good to go back. I was put off with this experience. Even worse I took the box out of the bag when I got back to my desk. 2.5* Rounded up. I almost rounded down, but the peanut brittle really is that good. It's hard to dislike a place that makes sweets, and makes them the old school way at that. It's even harder to dislike a place that makes some of the best damn peanut brittle I've ever come across - one sweet crunch and you're a gonner, game over, hooked for life.Oh and the candied apples...so many, so divine. And how can one dislike a place that makes diabetic friendly chocolates for the sugar intolerant amongst us? It's almost saintly. So why dont' I like this place more? Two words - Human Sloths. The staff here are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Serious, grit your teeth, fidget in line, sloth-like slowness here. I once waited in a line of 2 people for almost 25 minutes as one girl tied what must have been the worlds most difficult bow on the tiniest box of chocolates I've ever seen. FYI to the lady buying the chocolates - no bows in the world can pretty up cheap. If she'd been alone, I would've had more sympathy...but the other girl working just stood at the back, looking miserable, not lifting a finger to help the line while the other girl was making her masterpiece. Based on a yelper here, she was right about the peanut brittle! Kicks Purdy's out of the water, though that won't stop me from buying their's at Oakridge if I'm in the mood...actually, always in the mood. I'm really weak... anyways, something about the flavour, it's almost like a burnt, in a good way, as you can really taste the light crunchiness, almost fluffy. some are just way too hard, in the past. the little bag says "Hand Made", so I asked what that meant, just means they make it right there in North Vancouver behind the counter. Unlike the rest, where it's make in a major centre, then distributed to the supermarkets, etc. Very generous w/ the peanuts, every bite, be careful of 3-4 lol. they're also known for their peanut butter cups. I finished my small bag 100 grams ($3) from the time I drove out of the Lonsdale Quay parkade to just before entering the Second Narrows bridge...no control whatsoever! read more

I love fudge. I mean, I really love fudge. Creamy and sweet, melts on the tongue. Every flavor is a chance to delight my taste buds. ...but not here. They had TONS of chocolate on display and the pecan and cashew caramels were quite good. The chocolate is delicious. The service is terrible! The first time I tried to go buy some chocolates here the girl behind the counter didn't come to help me, so I walked away and came back. Once I came back she was helping someone else, and I bought a few chocolates to take home. They were divine. Yesterday I stood in line for quite some time as there was a few people in front of me ordering. During this time I chatted with another fellow in line, who was a repeat customer (we were talking about how good the salted caramel was) and the older man, who I assume was the owner, finally came over and said in a very short tone - can I help who's next - better make it quick because - and I didn't hear the second part - but he was clearly annoyed at his customers who were standing in line to order (he didn't come over to help while I was standing there a good 10 mins) and so made this other gentlemen say sorry to HIM for the inconvenience he was causing by trying to buy some chocolates from his shop - oh the nerve! Yes the chocolates are good but I guess that and their location make them feel entitled to not appreciate their customers, which is terrible. If there was one final reason to not stop here and buy $10 worth of chocolate on my way home, this is it. I won't be back again. read more

I was there yesterday and purchased 3 items, one was a bag of the sponge toffee. Well, talk about 'Olde World'!! - This stuff is ancient. It is well past its sell-by date (not that there was one on the bag). It is rock hard, the pieces are cemented together, and it is entirely inedible. I estimate that it is well over 3 months old, maybe longer. I want my $ back but don't plan to be back there soon. I also purchased a bag of caramel popcorn that, when I was selecting it, had me wondering how long it had been sitting on the shelf just because of the sheer number of bags they had for sale and LQ is not that busy of a place - it's not like Granville Island busy. Turned out that the popcorn was okay (not the best I've had, I don't think they use butter for the toffee). Update: I called to let them know and they said they don't take returns because it is food(?!? Save on Foods lets you return bad items!! As does Safeway and every other food store I know of.) But that they will make an exception and let me return in next time I am there. Not sure that will happen if I get someone else serving me but we will see. read more

I have always loved this candy store. I've gone to this place countless times, and I have never been disappointed even once. The chocolates are delicious and well made. The fudge is to DIE for, it is so good. I'm aware that some people left mean reviews because they bought fudge from this store before that was stale. I have never experienced that, and honestly it's worth the risk in my opinion. I would absolutely recommend it to a friend, and recommend you check it out if your in the Lonsdale Quay market. read more

If there is anything I've learned since moving to Vancouver, its that there is no lack of good home-made fudge and Olde World Fudge is no exception. The fine fudge-makers do so right on site on giant slabs of marble for all the passers-by to drool over. My favourite's are the seasonal pumpkin fudge (whoduthunkit?!) and the classic vanilla Oreo cookie, what better way to get your Oreo cookie fix but with Oreos slathered in vanilla fudge? Best fudge I've ever tasted. Which one? Apricot Brandy.......not to sweet, just right! In addition, the staff have sweet ma and pop personalities that are genuine. During our stay at lonsdale quay, my mother and I visited the place three times in one week! It was that good! :) We were on vacation, mind you. In addition, I appreciated the fact that there was a sugar free section for diabetic customers, something I never see in other candy shops. Calling around for maple fudge for a overseas Xmas present & everyone was sold out. Olde World had it so I asked if they had a store closer to Coquitlam & Dave offered to take it home & I picked it up. Amazing service but the fudge was even more amazing - YUM!!
