My mom and I were up for the weekend and we were intrigued by some pictures found online, so we decided to add a stop to our agenda. When we arrived, there were a few cars there, so we parked near them and a door that we assumed was the entrance. When we entered we were overwhelmed by the amount of products, followed by the amount of space that was dedicated to crafting. I wouldn't think that so much stuff could fit so neatly into one person's home. The first few aisles are lined with charms for necklaces, bracelets and other needs for crafting projects. There were rows of beads, gems, and other fun goodies. I found a bunch of wreath making supplies, a room of flowers and a room of ribbon...and some Christmas items. The owner is a super nice person and I can only assume that she was "the" Claudette, since I never did ask her name. My mother and I were just so excited speaking with her and checking out the craft samples that she and her family had made. This place is for the true crafter. One who isn't afraid to spend their time looking through thousands of items just to find that perfect piece. Though I'm sure if you ask, you will be told right where you will find what you're looking for. I did not see any scrapbook or junk journal type materials. Because the business is in the lower portion of a home, I would assume it is due to climate control. Did I mention that the prices are quite reasonable? I left with a full bag of so many fun things that I just can't wait to dive into. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday, so be sure to plan accordingly. I purchased it from Sanford Sewing, was taught how to use it (a joy since I am long term sewer but new to quilting!) My machine goes back for a "visit" when it needs a tune up or a thorough cleaning. The machinists are top at their craft. They not only maintain my Destiny 2 but have worked on my serger and my other sewing machine brands as well! When you need a new sewing foot, a variety of needle sizes, machine parts. quilting patterns, fat quarters, themed or holiday fabric designs, quilting rulers, battings, and thread, thread, thread, it is all in one place, Sanford Sewing! Last, but by no means least, is the group of employees who truly know everything about fabrics, sewing, quilting, coordinating colors, and long arm sewing! They know their business when it comes to sewing, quilting, or guidance! And they do it all with a genuine kindness and passion that makes each patron feels special and appreciated. CC is essentially a collective of vendors who are selling their merchandise; the store is divided into little "cubbies" across two floors - with each cubby showcasing a specific vendor and their merch. The selection varies - lots of home decor in varying styles, but I also saw a lot of crap too like used Tupperware and old McDonald's toys from the 90s. There were a few VHSs which awesome if you're collecting those - but then I saw some marked up Beanie Babies? We were truly stepping back in time when entering Cole's. Overall, this was a fun throwback - there's a lot of stuff here to see so you can easily spend a good chunk of time going through each vendor. I guess the typical shopper here doesn't actively use Yelp - but still! Anyway, I'm here to add to the review hat - as we were walking though Kennebunkport and stopped in on a...whim. Businesses come and go in Dock Square - some are new, others have been here since I first went to Maine as a child. The Whimsy Shop is on the latter end of that spectrum, and was always known for carrying more upscale gifts compared to a typical touristy souvenir shop. My brothers and I were looking for a gift to bring back to our parents from Maine, and thought this would be a good place to check out. The majority of their selection is home decor - there are a lot of porcelain products as well as a few housewares. They have pretty stuff, and even though it's a small store you can spend a good amount of time browsing. We ultimately decided to go with a hand-painted ceramic snowman to go with our parents' many other snowpeople they display during the holidays - it was intricately painted an truly a unique item. Service was friendly, they packed the item with care and even gave us information about the artist to take home. Overall, I had a great experience rediscovering the Whimsy Shop and would recommend it as a stop during your Kennebunkport explorations.
