Just got back from a night of camping at Olema Ranch. Here are the pros and cons for this campground: Pros: - Bathrooms were decent, and cleaned regularly so it wasn't super nasty - Water close by on all sites - sell firewood and other things, and even have a laundrymat - good for group barbeques Cons: - pricier than regular campgrounds, we paid $35 per night per site (for tent camping) and that only included 2 people and 1 car per site, $3 more per person over 2 and only up to 6 people per site - site is sparsely populated with trees, so you can see the WHOLE campground area from your site, no privacy or real feeling of being secluded in the outdoors here Overall, I probably wouldn't go back because of the non-secluded thing alone. read more

My family recently camped at Alema Ranch and had a great time. We choose Point Reyes because it was only 1.5 hrs from where we live. There are plenty of things to do and see. We BBQ fresh oysters and mussels at Tomales Bay Oyster Farm. Mmmmm, it was delicious. We went on the earthquake tour and of course visited the Point Reyes light house. The camp site is family friendly and has all that you need. Here are what I like about the camp site. - easy to get to - has play areas for kids - no bugs or mosquitos - clean bathrooms (it can get pretty dirty when people track in mud, but the staff cleans it multiple times a day) - FREE hot water shower - place to do dishes What I don't like is that is was crowded (Since it's a nice place, it's pretty popular. Maybe I went at peak season). Overal all my family and kids loved it. We would totally go again. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Olema Campground on 4th of July 2014. Our site 211was shady and spacious. We loved the cul de sac where kids could ride bikes and fly kites. Bathrooms clean and water hot, plus a super handy dishwashing sink out back made cleanup super easy. Great community of campers too. What a treat of a retreat just an hour away from the Bay area. Nice and right on Rte 1. Beware the roads in this area are very narrow. It was a challenge to get in and out of the area. Also bicycles everywhere. Great for our dogs. read more

We just returned from a week stay. We've stayed a few times before and noticed improvements have been made. This is not a five star resort. There is no lodge or swimming pool. There are no green lawns and cement pads. However, it is a pretty setting with lots of trees and is close to many recreational areas--Pt Reyes and beaches Wi fi is sketchy and there is no cable. For the nightly price, i think some folks might like to have it. There are oyster farms in the area and some very good restaurants. In fact, two or three blocks away is The Farmhouse for good fish and chips and also nightly specials such as prime rib on Wednesdays. Their deli has great sandwiches and salads for takeout. The town of Pt Reyes station is a mile away with nice shops, grocery store, bakery snd great restaurants. Cow Girl Creamery is there. My favorite cheese! We noticed sprinklers on more often keeping the dust down and the natural grasses greener. A water truck also goes around twice a day keeping dust down on the roads. Restrooms and showers are kept very clean. I think they received an update a few years ago Some of the RV sites are very close together. These are the ones near the entrance and form a circle around a beautiful grove of redwood trees. Here is where i would like to see the gardeners allow the shrubbery to fill in more. I can't figure out why gardeners these days like to prune everything into little balls and squares. The office area could use a facelift. The building is showing wear. It's a nice building but needs a good paint job. It Is the first thing you see when you drive up. Wood looks dry rotted. I'm sure more improvements will continue to be made as the campground was purchased a few years ago. The RV sites were full thus weekend so obviously folks gave noticed these improvements read more

We had a awesome New Years stay. It rained and the park was somewhat muddy but the straw they put down helped. Very dog friendly and the bathrooms were good. Our site was excellent. We'll come back as soon as we can. read more

Nice campground, always have a good time, property is well kept and clean. Close to everything, beach, lighthouse, Pt Reyes Station and the most important of all the town of Marshall to get fresh oysters. read more

We stayed at Olema Ranch Campground from 7/21-7/23 in one of the many tent sites. Please understand that my husband and I have not camped since before the birth of our eldest, who is now 10. We booked here because everything else was completely full. Overall, the campsites were clean, had decent tables and fire pits and were on grass. This was s pretty good campground and relatively quiet. This would be a great place for s family reunion, due to the relative size and ease of use of the facilities but if you are looking for a destination campground with hiking and fishing, then look elsewhere. My kids vacillated between complete boredom and playing on the play structure that was in the park. I probably would not return but not because of the facilities or the hospitality, but because there is nothing to do. If you bring kids, bring their bikes, scooters etc. The park is large and flat and big enough for them to "takeoff", but small enough for you to hear them even when they are out of site. read more

The campground and scenery were okay, the surroundings were pleasant, some wildlife, (deer on premises), which was cool; the restrooms where clean, and we had the hookups. We stayed 3 nights (weekdays) in our trailer, the neighbors were nice. It was quiet and relaxing. We would stay again, being it was only 1 1/2 hrs from home. Olema campground was about 20 minutes away from Tamales Bay and Pt. Reyes Lighthouse and close proximity to many hiking trails. read more

Just founds Olema Ranch last weekend 10/6/12. We camped two nights with our two kids and two dogs. Had a great time! The staff was awesome. Everything was clean. Super easy and close to town. A little foggy and wet in the morning, but it burned off quick and we had gorgeous blue skies all day. Best camping shower ever! Hot and Free. We'll be back for sure....might even try and get another trip in this fall. read more

Just finished a stay at the campground. First time there. We loved it! We RV camped and it was great. RV lots were completely full with mainly retired people. There were mainly large groups having a ton of fun. All very respectable and friendly. Once quiet time came it was like everyone went to bed. The spots in the big circle are pretty tight but if you can stay in one of the fingers then you have plenty of room. Some of the sites are the largest I have ever seen for RV camping. We can't wait to go back! read more

We stayed here Aug 14 and 15. Campground is easy to find and really convenient to Point Reyes National Seashore. We had an RV. Our site was really great - very shaded, level, easy access and convenient to the bathrooms. It was completely full when we were here. A little bit noisy in the evening but the quiet hours of 10pm - 8am were observed and it was VERY quiet at night, The owners were super nice and helpful. Showers/bathrooms were clean and in good condition. Lots of kids - our 10 year old quickly found a few friends to play with. There is a restaurant just down the street (walking distance). Nearest grocery is in Point Reyes Station, about 3 miles north on 1. If you have an RV, ask for one of the sites on the little cul de sacs - they are much nicer. The only reason I didn't give a 10 was because we have stayed at the KOA in Mt Rushmore, which is the Ritz of campgrounds! Otherwise this is a great choice and is very nice. read more

We stayed here at the beginning of a month long RV trip, early July 2017. It was a *perfect* starting point, easing us into RV life, hook ups, friendly neighbors, family vibes. It was so good that we actually came back to Point Reyes and rented the same spot (#101) at the end of our trip. I think I saw this campsite listed on a 'best of' list for RV campsites. I think we stayed in nicer ones, more grass, pool etc, but the vibe here is just right. Also, there is a cool little restaurant and general store down the road which is helpful. read more

Stayed one night in our travel trailer. I would not choose to stay there again if I had another option. It is overpriced for the facilities. It is a very large park and I definitely would not want to be there when it was anywhere near full. The facilities, are showing their age and are maintained at, in my opinion, a minimum level. The office "store" was very poorly stocked and looked pretty sad. I/we have stayed at RV resorts through out the West and the South and Olema is a contender for one of the poorest places we have stayed. read more

This campground would likely be fairly nice if you have an RV -- after spending 2 nights here, I learned that the nicest parts of the campground are reserved for RV sites. However, IF YOU ARE A TENT CAMPER, BEWARE. I would give them a ZERO rating if possible. Not only is this campground exceptionally expensive for a tent site ($98 for 2 nights), it seems even more expensive after factoring in the poor management and its absolute disregard for customer service or satisfaction. The campground staff had no problem taking my full deposit, 2 1/2 months in advance, with the commitment that a staffer would call me back to confirm a site which had morning shade (through noon). I had specifically explained that I was reserving far in advance to ensure a tent site that would provide morning shade, since I knew that I would arrive late-night on both Friday and Saturday nights, and would leave by noon on both Saturday and Sunday for nearby wedding festivities. I simply needed a place to sleep and shower, out of the line of the blazing morning sun. I never received a confirmation call back from the staffers, so I called them back to confirm. Actually, I called them back SIX times over 2 1/2 months ... and not one of the three different staffers that I spoke with (nor their manager, evidently) were able to provide any information about morning shade. Each time I called, they said that they would check it out, and asked me to call back in a couple of days. Unfortunately, I arrived to learn that the spot that they had reserved for me was actually in FULL SUN from 9am onward ... despite the fact that my lucky tent-site neighbors, just two tent sites south from mine, enjoyed full shade ALL DAY. And yet they told me that they'd reserved their sites much later than I did. (As I'd noted to the manager, the least he could do is clearly identify the trees on their campground map, so that future campers can figure it out for themselves). On Saturday morning, the staffer on duty told me that I could move to a new site. Unfortunately, all of the morning shade sites had already been taken, no big surprise here. Even if there had been a shady site available, that would have been inconvenient and time-consuming -- it would have meant that we would have to take time away from the wedding festivities to break down our entire setup, pack it all back into the car, drive it to another section of the campground, and set it up again. However, even this inconvenient solution wasn't an option, because the only available tent sites were in other campground sections -- in wide-open field areas with no shade. After requesting a refund from the manager, I was amazed to learn that he felt that there was no way to know about where there is shade in the campground. After just one trip to this place, it is quite obvious that the sites that are located just north of a long line of tall trees enjoy shade the entire day (ie, #213 and #214 in our section). Despite the manager's excuses, the shade in these sites would not change substantially over the course of 2 1/2 months, and certainly not since the week before my arrival (my 5th call), or the earlier during the day of my arrival (my 6th call). Although he did refund me for one night, I am pursuing a dispute through my credit card. (I am willing to pay $30 for our 2 showers and our 2 nights of substandard camping). To make matters worse, when we returned on Saturday evening around midnight, there were 15 cars and 30-40 people camping in a tent site just north of ours (despite their stated policy of maximum of 6 people and 2 vehicles per campsite).They had left out their food and alcohol all over their picnic tables, causing an ongoing night-time racket between our next-door neighbor's dog and the scavaging raccoons. On Sunday morning, this same overloaded tent site started their noisy alcoholic breakfast well before 8am. (Although we weren't around Saturday evening, our next-door tent neighbors told us that this same noisy group was partying long after the 10pm "quiet hours" began.) Unfortunately, the bathrooms in our area were also trashed by this same group. When I spoke with the Olema Campground attendant about this problem that morning, he simply shrugged. I would think that a campground host would be a valuable addition to this place. My final gripe and warning to future campers is that the attendants close the bathrooms down for an incredibly long period of time for cleaning -- precisely when it seems that folks need to use them (9am-11am). Strange. My next-door neighbor campers complained about this problem, as well, during the daytime hours that they were in the campground. So be prepared to walk across to one of the other campground sections till you find a bathroom that's available for use. In conclusion: Especially if you're a tent camper, Don't Camp Here. I will not return. read more

Great campground. The bathrooms were very clean, warm water and flushing toilets. The partial hookup sites are the best. Plenty of trees and shade. Plenty of room between campsites. Even though we have a trailer, I wouldn't stay in one of the full hookup spots. They sit on top of each other like a parking lot. read more

The tent only area was basically a large grassy parking lot densely crowded with cars and tents. I was there on a Friday and Saturday and it was completely full. It serves its purpose as a legal place to camp near Point Reyes, but it's very expensive for what it is. If you can plan ahead far enough definitely stay at the state park nearby instead. read more

I am giving this campground 2 stars mainly because of location and because the rest of this little community really goes out of their way to make your time here special , the community , not the park . The park looks like it needs a lot of work. Like the owner has given up on this place. The roads and site are all dirt or mud in this case. It really needs some gravel on the roads . The internet is metered so anything that you want to do that requires bandwidth, forget about it .Remember what a 56 k connection was like as a kid ?You'll remember when you get here .This is the slowest I have seen at any park . Looks like they built a new bathroom but I figure it was out of necessity . It's really ashame considering the beautiful area and potential . My impression is that the park offers just what it has to . And I guess they take Good Sam discounts but they don't tell you that on the phone . You have to ask .So would I come to again, probably but just because their is NO competition I can find here , .......... YET . read more

The Olema RV resort receives one star for the venue. A very run down campground. Pride in ownership seems to be missing. It's a shame being so close to the bay area. Dirty overall and the grounds are unkempt. Very pricy when compared to other RV parks with similar amenities in prime locations. Our site had a broken down picnic table and the fire pit had not been cleaned in some time. Ther was trash in the pit and a 1/2 burned plastic water bottle. The grate was covered in burned plastic from the 1/2 of the bottle that was burned. If we'd wanted a fire it would not have been a big deal to clean out the pit; it should have been done by the park prior to our arrival. It rained today, there are potholes and very large puddles everywhere. 10 yards of gravel and a day with a bobcat would solve the problem. read more

To begin with, this is one of my favorite campgrounds with a "woodsy" feel and close to Point Reyes National Seashore. It doesn't feel like a parking lot like some campgrounds do. However, that being said, I wanted to give these guys extra praise for their recent efforts during the 2017 Norther California Firestorms. I was evacuated and out of my house for about 10 days. My wife called the campground on a Monday at about 10:00am and they told her, "just come on out, we will make room for you". When we got there, there was a box with donations for fire evacuees which had lots of snacks as well as some camping essentials like sleeping bags. We didn't need anything as our camper is well stocked but it was nice none the less. By the end of the week this campground was an evacuee village with people from all over Sonoma county staying there. As far as I know they didn't turn anyone away who was evacuated. They even went so far as to email all their reservations for that upcoming weekend and offer people credits for a future stay if they could postpone their visit so that they could make more room for evacuees. While I come to this campground a couple of times a year anyway, they have certainly earned my business well into the future for helping the community in a time of need. We paid $49 for 1 night of tent camping after spending the day in Petaluma/Point Reyes Station area, as other cheaper and more remote campsites we looked into did not have availability. The only reason I would consider going back is for the prime location and for not needing a reservation/lots of availability. The campground itself didn't have many trees and the campsites are very close together; pretty much it felt like setting up camp in the middle of a large field. We arrived late in the day and there were probably about 15 spots left to choose from, which all seemed pretty much the same to me, all grouped together without anything really separating them from one another, other than the picnic tables to discern which belonged to which spot. There are 2 areas to tent camp and we picked the smaller one with less campsites, thinking it was a good choice. Unfortunately, there was a volleyball net setup right in front of our site and once we started unpacking, it got swarmed with screaming teenagers (so much for a relaxing end to the day). Unfortunately, we were also next to a group of 4 young adults who were really vulgar and loud. We decided to get out of there and return only to sleep, which we ended up doing (it was difficult to fall asleep because people were being loud into the late hours of the evening). The next morning, we woke up at 6am, cleaned up in their facilities (they have onsite bathrooms), packed up, and got out of there. Good riddance! read more

Our group really wanted to like this campground. We stayed here two nights but our last night/final check out day really ruined it for us. We patronized this campground with three sites and while we were a group - we were respectful with our volume level and did not play any music. There was also a large group next to us on the other side of a creek/bush area. On Saturday night, some person they use as security on a golf cart came roaring at us out of nowhere unprovoked shouting at us that we were loud and our fire was too big - ok fine, we lowered the fire (which was fully contained in fire rings) and a bit bewildered about the volume request, still toned it down even more - mind you no amplified music and we weren't shouting. Meanwhile a group nearby was loud, had music and didn't seem to get reprimanded at all. The next morning - this same "security" guy rudely accosted two of the girls in our group saying "Rough night now wasn't it? How you feeling today?" in a belligerent manner. Mind you she doesn't even drink so she was taken aback. The guy then followed them to our sites and started shouting we were being kicked out and had to leave in 30 minutes. This came out of the blue and unprovoked. This man was seriously psychotic. Two of us went to the office where the ladies were very friendly and explained to them that this nut job was accosting our group and threatening us on our day we were checking out already. The office ladies are super nice (great when making our reservation too) and told us not to worry about him. The security guy came around again and when we told him the office gave us permission to check out at noon which is the official check out time we paid for, he freaked that we went above his head. Later on that morning some weird old dude with a beard started taking pictures of us, our vehicles and site. The site was left in great condition, totally clean, we were very respectful - we are completely confused what the heck this was all about. These are some utter nut jobs that work/run this place. The only nice people here are in the office / the admins. Avoid this place -they are creeps. And as others have indicated - the sites are waaay too crammed together. They have very few trees so you also roast during the day with no shade cover. Bathrooms were pretty decent but this place is a bust. read more

Location, location, location. This campground's proximity to the many trailheads in West Marin makes it easy to overlook the minor annoyances, but I will list a few things that were less that optimal. Don't let these small drawbacks discourage you from visiting, but forewarned is forearmed. The bench/table combo at our tent site was so wobbly as to make us sit gingerly, for fear of having the benches collapse like a house of cards. The campground had hot showers -- yay! -- but the configuration of the bathrooms was not well-thought-out, in that the four individual bathrooms near us each had a toilet, sink, and shower; all housed within the same room. Thus during peak-use times, people who wished to use the toilet often had to wait in line, while others finished showering, before a toilet became available. Tip: There is a single toilet near the check-in area in a pyramid-shaped building that has no shower, so that line moved faster. Also, if you have a hatchback, it is important to not only close it, but LOCK your hatchback. Raccoons were able to open our closed-but-not-locked VW Golf hatchback, and raid our bag of food that was in our car. Shame on us! read more

I have recently camped here before Memorial Day and was pleasantly surprised. We have a small RV and usually boon dock. We're not much of the KOA type of people. Don't like crowds. Even though this campground was pretty full, it was a super laid back group of people. Again, I really don't like crowds so this is saying a lot for me. However, I am confused by a number of the Yelp reviews on here. Face it, you are not going to camp here to "get away from it all" because it is just not that type of campground. If you want that, pack your stuff in and camp at one of the backpacking sites in Point Reyes. They are absolutely beautiful and well worth the effort if you do that sort of thing. If however, you have an RV or Trailer and you want the convenience of being close to all the hiking trails in the area, being able to bring back fresh oysters to your campground and enjoy the comfort of having clean facilities, well my friend this is your place! I really don't like parking lot campgrounds and that seems to be what most RV campsites are around here. That is not the case here. This campsite feels like a campground and very pleasant and friendly. I've booked 4 more days here after Labor Day and I'm super excited. read more

We were staying in the area for 9 days as we have family and friends in the area and there was a family event. They squeezed us into their smallest campsite we could barely get out our door as there was a large bush right outside our door. We were so close to our neighbors sewer line which provided the rancid odor of s&$& at all hours... usually you get to wake up to the joyful smell of bacon we got to smell what happens to the bacon after you eat it. Luckily we had other places to be during the days or the stay would have been completely miserable. IF you choose to stay here I would recommend asking for a larger site they seem to have plenty but they do fill up fast. It was fairly quiet at night... but in the pursuit of the mighty dollar they appear to have made some spaces into two in order to pack the campers in like sardines. All in all I'd say come here only if you A: have a larger space and B: have no other options. read more

For the price, the grounds are nice. Pretty quiet and peaceful. We had a nice spot with trees behind us and bushes/trees between us and our close neighbors. The staff is probably the reason I won't return. One lady never even made eye contact or smiled when I checked in- and lit up her smelly cigarettes outside the office door for everyone to see and smell. She also brought her roosters which roamed about my campsite all morning. I love animals, but come on. The other younger lady was pretty rude and unfriendly. There was a lost puppy roaming the property, and when a few other campers and I worked as a team to find the owner- she gave me attitude and told me I should have just let the puppy alone to find his way back. Um, it was a hungry puppy, not dog, and what person with a heart and soul wouldn't want to help? This campground is closer to home so I was hoping to have a go-to spot as we love to travel and camp. Until they work on their customer service though- I don't see this being one of those spots. read more

Beautiful campground with grass & trees, numerous separated loops with about 10-12 rv spaces. Full hookups, fire pit, picnic table. Plenty of room so not overrunning your neighbors. Meadow area for tents, with plenty of room for the kids to set up net games. Fully fenced pet run, so dogs can stretch their legs off leash. Lots of attractions in the area, and beach well within driving range. Very pet friendly. Post office, laundry & showers. Store wasn't as well stocked as some others have been, but plenty of stores in a short drive. Friendly staff, dust reduction, wood & propane available. We pull a trailer with our rv for our Harley and will be back to use this camp as a jumping off point. read more

Very friendly and supportive staff. Recently remodeled, clean bathrooms with showers and large campsites. Easy 1/2-mile bicycle ride to Pt Reyes National Seashore and a safe 2-mile bike to Pt Reyes Station, which has a gas station, well-stocked market, butcher and lots of shops (bike, surf, used books, etc.) and a few restaurants. Camping is waaaaay too expensive for setting up in an open dirt field with barking dogs next door, loud traffic and no charm or ambiance what so ever. Stayed at an electric/water site. Camp was full on the weekend, deserted after noon on Sunday. Electricity was constant, water good. Used the dump station and it worked fine. Location was good for trips to the "city" and up and down the coast, which is very popular. Initially, we were put in a site that was not level, for a week long stay--but, it was easily remedied by the friendly staff. Internet login is complex, but works well, even during peak periods. read more

Yes I understand the other reviews but my main reason is that it was very dog friendly. They had areas along the road with dog waste bags so if you forgot to bring any which was also convenient. Also lots of kids on their bikes. I happened to choose a tent site close to the bathroom and it was very convenient. Also the showers were FREE. There was an area to wash your dishes and it had HOT running water. It was also nice to have a fire pit in each site especially when we forgot to pack our propane stove so we were able to cook over the fire pit. It was also very close to the Point Reyes National Seashore which also had dog friendly areas on some beaches and a dog trail. The only downfall I saw was the noise at night because the sites were so close. I would definitely come back again. read more

So I am here again with my family. We are staying in the RV area away from the big meadow. No weird tent exhibitionism so far! I feel that my last review was more of a review of other patrons behavior than the campground itself. One thing I did not get a chance to take advantage of was the awesome hidden private FREE showers. They are not by the other bathroom stall showers. I felt safe being able to lock the door to aprivate shower. The people who work here are nice. I cringingly said hello to the owner, hoping he didn't remember me or see my previous review. There is a large group of kids on a field trip or something, and they are respectfully quiet. Also I found a hidden Guadalupe shrine in the far corner of the camp area, in the back of the church. This place deserved a second chance, we came because it is smoky in Lee Vining, and I am glad we did. I noticed that the tent sites in back have a more roomy and woodsy feel, for what it is. If you want the closest camping to point reyes, this place is convenient! P.s. this campsite has CLEARLY labeled garbage glass plastic and aluminum bins so I WAS WRONG! read more

I had a reservation for 8/25/14 in this campground. You have to prepay when you make a reservation. I live in Idaho & we were on vacation planning to go up Highway 1, but on 8/24/14 there was a 6.0 earthquake in the Napa wine country. The news stated that highway 37, our route to be able to get to the campround was closed due to the earthquake. I called them on the 24th to cancel since we couldn't use the highway. I was told no refund but we could use the credit for 1 year. We were on vacation & live in Idaho so that doesn't work. I will never stay there & will make sure anyone we know that RV's should not stay there either. read more

As a committed NON-Camper, I only camped in the first place because my husband really, really wanted to.. Lets face it, there is a lot of dirt and its always cold at night, and going to the ladies room in the middle of the night is out of the question.. However, I reserved the ELM section of the campground for his 50th birthday celebration and couldn't have been happier with the location and the friendliness of the staff. Anya is awesome and if you have the chance to deal with her you will feel the same way. The campground showers and bathrooms were kept clean daily and offered steaming hot showers with great water pressure. The large garbage depository was also kept clean, the dust was watered down twice a day and the office sold firewood and ice at not too high a premium. We were also offered free wifi codes on check in. I found that by treating the employees and our fellow campers with respect, we were given the same. We will definitely make this an annual campout and I hope everyone else will enjoy it as much as we did. read more

Make sure you call and ask if there are any large groups camping. We arrived for a relaxing time and our first night was certainly not that. There was a school swim team group of 50+ camping, which was fine until their program started which included amplified speakers and microphones. From 7 pm until 11-ish (after quite times) all we heard was there microphones followed by clapping and cheering, pretty much the opposite of what you hope for when getting away and camping. We woke up the next day and were going to cancel the next nights reservation if it was more of the same. We talked to the office, sounded like there was another group that called and complained, they said there were no large groups for that night. We ended up staying.
