My family came to camp here on a cold winter weekend. We have camped all over California and had some pretty poor experiences with inconsiderate neighbors and this was among the worst. A group of thirty to forty 20-somethings arrived in a caravan of cars and immediately began to drink. As the night progressed, they played loud music and shouted along to it Despite the posted signs advising that amplified music was not allowed without prior approval, the music and tuneless wailing went on for two hours. Having experienced lackadaisical response from management in similar situations before, I went to the camp office at the commencement of quiet hours--ten o'clock--anticipating that a response would be slow. I called the number posted on the office door, only to have an answering machine pick up. There was no response or follow up. The music stopped but the noise did not. The group became progressively noisier, rendering sleep impossible for me and my husband. Our kids woke up and went back to sleep repeatedly as gusts of profanity and loud laughter met their ears. Over an hour after quiet hours had commenced--at 11:10--some of the revelers retired to their tents, which were closer to us than the campfire where they'd been carousing, and started to yell back and forth between their tents. I got out of my tent and went towards them. "BE QUIET" I yelled. This outraged the partiers, one of whom yelled, "Get out of my space." He really seemed to feel as if I were intruding on his space and to be unaware that he and his friends had been trampling over everyone else's space for the past three hours. "Go away crazy lady!" he yelled. At this point I went back to my tent and called the campground host again. She actually answered this time, but was clearly put out that I was disturbing her sleep and not at all willing to acknowledge that she was not DOING HER JOB. She said she'd do something about it, but the noise continued, and then one of the campers came over to our tent and plucked at it and shone lights on it. I heard them telling each other--"go over to that tent and pull on it." So I called the campground host again. She said, "I'm getting out of bed now" (but apparently had not been doing so after my first two calls?) and repeatedly asked me for my site number. I told her that the other campers were now harassing me and my family and I didn't feel safe giving her my site number but that she would be able to tell who the noisy people were once she arrived. She was very irritated with me and not at all apologetic for not having stopped the noise earlier (despite the fact that signs all around the campsite declare that noise will not be tolerated by security). She said "You are getting me out of bed and I think you should tell me what site you are in." As if the fact that I and my family were not able to go to sleep in the crappy space for which we were paying an exorbitant amount were not important. This was a terrible experience and the only reason I gave the place one dot is because zero is not possible. This place sucks. read more
