Great trip through Acadia NP! I had to call a few times to change our tour because we had to tenter from our cruise ship, and the were so helpful and accommodating. Our driver/tour guide did an incredible job of navigating us to amazing vistas in Acadia while informing us about the area. Our suggestion- a little more time for each stop.

Very fun way to get an overview of the beautiful but crowded Acadia National Park. The bus driver/ tour guide was a hoot. He had remarks and insights that made the ride fun and informative. Great scenery throughout the trip. Bus was conveniently located in bar Harbor near shops and restaurants. Highly recommended.

We decided that it would a good idea to take a kind of tour of Acadia as a way to see all the sites with a short timeline. I think we chose well. Our tour was great - we learned a lot about the area and the park. I love history, so we got a great history lesson from Fred W, our awesome tour guide. A couple of things to know: -The one thing I did not like is that the tour left at 3:30 and at roughly 3:10, we received a phone call asking if we were coming still. That was pretty annoying to me. We know what time the thing leaves and we are planning to be there on time. But apparently, they really want you to show up early. -The benches are wood, so just something to know if you have a bad back etc. -Generally speaking you get 15 minutes at each of the three spots that you stop so you ether have to hit the bathroom or gift shop OR go see the thing. You don't have time for both really. -Questions are encouraged! You'll get more out of it if you pay attention and ask questions along the way.

We did the 2 1/2 hour tour and it was perfect. I have not done the four hour tour but I think it might be too long. Scenery was beautiful. Lots of awesome pictures. Our driver was very informative and knowledgeable about the park. I believe his name was Ken.

Great way to see the park if you're short on time! Stops were short but commentary was great and they hold reservations to summit Cadillac

For my birthday, we joined a whale watching tour in the Gulf of Maine.  We honestly weren't sure…read morewhat to expect but were blown away by getting to see 3 different types of whales (Humpback, Minke, Finback), with multiples of each type and also two blue sharks. The people that led our tour were knowledgeable and friendly and I also appreciated they had food and drinks onboard for sale (and single serve dramamine). We had a hot dog, their ocean gin drink, and a blueberry harbor ale and couldn't have had a better time. Make sure to get there early as the most in demand seats on top of the boat were full after they let the people waiting in line early on the boat. I'd say we got there 30 minutes earlier than needed and got some of the best seats but there weren't many left. There is a shop with good coffee close so you can have one person hold your spot in line while others do that. Dress warmer than you think you need: we ended up wearing long sleeve shirts and pants with jackets and beanies and it wasn't a rough or especially cold day at sea and closer to 70 degrees on land. .

This whale watching excursion was disappointing. The boat was far too large, making it difficult…read morefor many passengers to get a good view of the whales. Additionally, it took nearly two hours to reach the whale viewing area. The biggest issue was the speed of the boat in rough waters. On the way out, the captain traveled much too fast, causing severe motion sickness for a large portion of the passengers. I would estimate that about 75% of the people onboard became sick. Once we reached the whale area and the boat slowed down, most people began to feel better. Unfortunately, the return trip was just as bad. The boat again traveled at a high speed through rough seas, causing many passengers to become sick for a second time. While seeing the whales was enjoyable, the overall experience was overshadowed by the uncomfortable and unpleasant boat ride.

Acadia National Park is one of those places that genuinely lives up to everything said about it,…read moreand it stands apart from the big western parks in a way that makes it its own distinct experience. I found the combination of rocky coastline, dense evergreen forests, and mountain summits accessible within a relatively compact area meant there was always something worth stopping for. The scenery shifted constantly as I moved through the park, and keeping a camera within reach at all times was not an exaggeration. Cadillac Mountain is the natural anchor of my visit. The drive to the summit is worth doing on its own, but I chose to hike the Gorge Trail leading up to it on foot. It was a serious undertaking that included real rock climbing sections and rewarded me with views that felt genuinely earned. I budgeted a full half day for the hike rather than driving. The summit itself has a gift shop, and the views from the top looked out in every direction with nothing obstructing them. A reservation for the Cadillac summit road costs a few dollars and needs to be booked online in advance, so I handled that before I arrived. The Beehive Trail is another strong option for hikers who want something with more exposure and elevation gain than a standard walk. I also built Sand Beach and Thunder Hole into my loop drive, and the carriage roads offered a different pace entirely, peaceful and scenic with no vehicle traffic to contend with, making them ideal for biking if I had access to wheels. Parking was a genuine challenge during peak season and on weekends in particular. Arriving early in the morning was the only reliable way to secure a spot at the popular stops without waiting an hour or more. A late fall visit would hit a sweet spot where crowds thin out considerably, the air is crisp, and the park takes on a quieter quality that peak season cannot offer. I made sure to buy my park pass at the visitor center and did my research on seasonal hours before I went, as services and shuttles wind down toward the end of October.

We've kayaked in Florida and MN a few times but this was the first time in open sea. Our guide was fantastic. She provided instruction and the necessary safety info accurately and got us on our way quickly. We kayaked around one of the porcupine islands. We had to watch for large boats through the main channels. One side of the island provided choppy paddling conditions which was 'fun' and unique. The other side of the island was much calmer and relaxed. Our guide provided interesting tidbits of info about the island as we progressed. I kind of wished we would have had a few designated photo ops areas. I didn't really feel like I could take my time to get my camera out as I needed to keep up or didn't want to miss what she was saying. As a result, no one in our group really took any pics. The kayaks were in good condition. We wore splash suits to minimize getting wet. If you are tall, the kayaks will likely be a bit uncomfortable for you (hard to adjust the foot rests). Nice morning on the water.
