We took our bikes out over 30 miles and had a beautiful day exploring parts of the park we would not have been able to see otherwise. What a great find Pedego Acadia was during our visit to Bar Harbor! We took advantage of the 4 hour rental at $55. We all thought this rate was very reasonable and the amount of time was perfect. As for the bikes they are simple to use and handled any hill with ease. After a few minutes our entire group felt very comfortable zipping around on these bikes. If you want to get a bit of a workout that is still an option, just keep it in first gear. However, if you just want to cruise you can do that too. I must admit, we loved having the option of using electric power on some of the hills we encountered. If you want to see a lot of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park this is a great option. We stumbled upon this place after the bike excursion on our cruise ship was sold out. I'm very glad we did because the experience and value was far superior to what we would've otherwise experienced. We opted for the 4-hour package and that was a perfect amount of time to ride around Acacia. Jonathan provided a detailed map and explained how to navigate the park. It was beautiful, serene, quiet, and exhilarating all at the same time. Much of this ride is on 1-way roads and the vehicles we shared the pavement with were all very considerate of us bikers. The ride has numerous grade changes and it was easy to upshift and accelerate on the hill climbs with the e-assist. Also, parking was a breeze compared to the many vehicles that were jockeying for parking spaces. We took our time and completed the loop in about 3-hours (including a stop for lunch at Jordan Pond). The bikes were comfortable, fast, and easy to ride. This was our first experience with e-bikes, and I also ride a Harley so my learning curve was not as steep as my wife's. Just the same she caught on quickly and agreed that this experience was awesome. Suggestion; if you've never ridden an e-bike before take some time to get acquainted in a safe area before you hit the streets. We found a nice parking lot nearby and that really help my wife to learn the ropes. read more

We had a great experience on the E-Bikes! It honestly felt like cheating zipping up the hills so fast but it was really fun and allowed us to see a lot of Acadia without dealing with parking and crowds. It was my favorite part of the trip. There was an issue with our reservation where the previous owners did not transfer the reservation over to the current owners so no one was expecting us. We had booked 5 months in advance, had a confirmation email and built our whole day around this. The owner (very sweet lady but I didn't get her name!) still honored our reservation and was able to find the same bikes we reserved. Very good customer service for something completely out of her control. HIGHLY recommend! read more

I'll tell you my experience, and let you decide... Is it ridiculous of me to find this kind of customer treatment unacceptable? When the owner didn't show at the posted opening time, I waited alongside a group who, if it hadn't been for paying money the day before, would have left in frustration for another place to spend their money. Telling them to arrive early when they reserved and paid the day prior, only to make them wait an hour for him to show, the owner narrowly avoided them calling their respective credit card companies and refuting the charges. They were understandably upset. Locals offering advice during the wait said it was typical of this (apparently new) ownership/management, as the previous owner had recently experienced a tragic medical condition and was no longer operating the business. Upon hearing this bit of sad news, I decided to return later to rent, despite my initial frustration. When I did, a man (who identified himself as the owner) engaged me with what I can only describe as the worst retail/service attitude in recent memory. Total indifference to his lack of timeliness when I mentioned my earlier experience, and a nearly hostile attitude towards myself and my four kids. (9-15) The only positive outcome was a good lesson for them on how to never treat customers. The shop itself is very cute, the bikes seem like great quality; but seems a shame to have this kind of customer service behind the handlebars... hopefully this review will motivate some adjustments, and make for better experience with future customers! read more

We rented bikes in summer 2021. The staff was very friendly but the bikes were a little worn - the seat adjustments didn't stay. Make sure you get a tool kit to take with you on the ride in case you need to adjust the seat. read more

We had a great time renting e-bikes from this location. What a great way to see Acadia Park. In a few hours, we explored much of the park as well as the nearby town of Bar Harbor. The pedal-assist bikes were great on the loop road and also the Carriage Roads throughout. Naomi took great care of us, setting us up with the bikes and locks, making sure we knew how to use them (it was our first time with e-bikes) and recommending where to go. We online rented 4 e-bikes about 1.5 wks ago for today 8/16/23, the only online option is to rent for entire day , you can do it in person for hrly rate but at peak times you may not get an e-bike. It didn't take long to set us up (about 20 min) - mapping street direction to Acadia carriage trials , going over the bike operating instructions, adjusting the fitting. We had never ridden an e-bike but it was easy to get the feel and handling of the bikes as we rode toward the carriage trials. This was perfect for us as the e-bikes allowed us to do our sightseeing and photography without fatigue- it was sunny and 70-80 in the sun. The bikes come with lock and tools to do adjustments if needed(ie seat height - we didn't need any as bikes are in great shape). However not all bikes have water bottle holder but you can place a knapsack etc on back of bike - secured by bungee cord- supplied by shop. Overall we had a great experience- about 5.5 hrs rental time including a stop for lunch at Jordan Pond House(20 min wait without reservation) . The bike battery was still about 70 percent full at the end. Again the store representatives Mallory and Sara were great. Would definitely rent from them again on our next visit! read more

We were cautious after reading a couple more recent reviews, but everything went very well. Jon was friendly and flexible when we wanted to move our time up a couple hours. His instructions were thorough and suggestions helpful. He seemed genuinely concerned that we have a good time. Upon our return he asked if the bike were in good shape and I mentioned one thing he might like to check. Overall a great experience. The beautiful day helped of course. Don't let the sun fool you though. It's cold!! Gloves, scarves and lined pants were important in making our ride enjoyable. read more

Jonathan was there to help us, and he was so friendly and helpful and he was authentically enjoying his day. It was contagious! We rented two electric bikes and set off for the Acadia loop. We had a nice day blah blah blah - here's the important part: I overused the battery and ran it out about 3/4 of the way. I'm a motorcyclist and I just got carried away I guess. My bike was quite heavy, and getting it going uphill was not going to work. My lovely, understanding wife sent me off with her bike to finish the loop, get the car, and come back to get her. It was getting late, I biked right past the turn I was supposed to take and kept going down a wonderful long hill before it occurred to me I had overshot the mark and would have to somehow go back about a half mile uphill going against the traffic. Right then Jonathan texted my cell and offered to come get us. The story is too long and the details too many - the upshot is Jonathan rescued us with a fantastic attitude and made what could have been fairly awful something hopeful and thankful. Oh yeah btw the bikes were in great condition and the cost was in line with the experience. You should stop in there just to bring Jonathan an iced tea or something. Pedego electric bikes was the highlight of our visit to Acadia National Park. We rented four adult bikes and 3 kids bikes. These bikes are the coolest things you will ever ride! You can pick from fat tire bikes to bikes with saddle bags. They get you all set up and ready for the day including locks and helmets. I loved the polka dot one! We enjoyed a 20 mile ride, I can tell you with out these bikes our kids would never even made it a mile. When you start up a hill and you have to start really working at, you simply press a button and vroom vroom you are breezing by everyone who is walking their bike up. The views were spectacular and the memories are life long. This is highly recommended!! read more

Bikes we rented were in great shape and the staff was helpful. Definitely book ahead of time, as availability was tight. I took off one star because actually getting ahold of someone to get information and pick up the bikes was difficult. Maybe its understaffing, but there was no one in the shop when we showed up to pick up reserved rentals (ended up waiting ~20 min before staff returned from a tour). Also tried to call and get information multiple times w/o answer, so I ended up booking blindly online so feel I feel lucky it worked out. read more

I would not give these people a credit card. We rented two bikes in advance on line for the afternoon slot. The shop never opened in the morning and people were waiting there wondering if there was a illness or other problem. We left several messages asking for a return call which we never received and eventually had to rent bikes elsewhere. The shop said they got there at 12:30 and even though they were closed unexpectedly in the morning were there to rent bikes prior to our 1 pm pick up. They would not refund our payment even though they never returned any calls that day. As a business owner I am not sympathetic to this kind of laziness and companies like this deserve the poor reviews that they get. read more

This is THE way to tour Bar Harbor. You will ride through nature with little effort using electric assist. While the bikes don't include a tour guide, they do get you closer to the trees and a feeling of freedom. We stopped off here with an out-of-the-ordinary request. My bike rim was damaged nearly beyond repair and couldn't take a new tire in its current condition. Jonathan ground down the rim and got a new tube and tire on it for a price which was way more than fair. If you're reading this, thank you! Rented 5 bikes for the day, the extra expense (over petal bikes) was justified after the first hill. Bikes were fantastic. Of course they are a little worn, they're rentals, they worked great! Staff gave us some coaching prior to depart, the Carriage trails started less than a mile from bike shop. For group of 5 we had 3 bike locks, & 1 saddlebag, which came in handy for locking at Jordan Pond. Bikes were easy to use, & no worry about battery life. We were out for nearly 6 hours, completely enjoyed. The e-bikes made it easy to climb from lake level to the scenic harbor overlooks, so cool. read more

Lots of problems with this ebike rental location. I reserved two bikes for our vacation, and the evening before we were due to ride, an employee from the store texted me asking if I wanted to give up my reservation because their was rain in the forecast, and he would have to drive over an hour to the shop to be there for us, he very clearly did not want to come to work, knowing it would be a slow day. Their was rain in the forecast, so I agreed to the cancellation. Then the employee told me he was filling in for the owner, and did not really know how to process my refund. The day after our reservation, I stopped in the shop to see about my refund, and the gentlemen working who was not the employee I had been dealing with was very professional and processed my refund, and suggested I return near the end of the day, and that my wife and I could try out bikes at no charge to at least get a sense of what they were all about. We returned later that afternoon, and the employee we spoke to that morning was gone, and the employee on duty now was the same one that did not want to come to work on the rainy day the day before. He was working the shop with his wife, they were friendly, but said we could pay for an hour $25 each bike, certainly a different tune than the morning promise of a free trial. I was eager to finally get on an ebike I agreed to the $50 charge. They gave us two bikes and 20 feet down the road, my chain popped off the cranks!! I fixed it myself, road another 50 feet, and it popped off again!! I walked it back to the shop, they apologized and said they were just filling in, and that the bikes usually are fine, and gave me a different bike, and this bike had a terrible wobble in the front and rear wheels, completely out of true, and a badly squeeking brake on the rear wheel, this thing was a death trap, shaking and squeeking the whole time, (my wifes bike was fine), When we returned, I explained all the trouble with the bike, and was informed that they would leave a note for the mechanic, and did NOT offer any kind of discount or refund for my crappy experience. Not likely to use them again. read more

We were in Bar Harbor for the day, got in late and didn't know what to expect because we hadn't rented bikes anywhere before. The gentleman at Pedago was top notch. He gauged our experience level, and when it was clear we just wanted a'taste' of the ebikes he gave us some free tokens to try out later and suggested we rent regular bikes that could be taken on the carriage roads. My son did that and had a blast. We tried out the ebikes and had a great time later too. Even my 12yr old son remarked how it was clear he wanted to just make us happy and didn't want to push the sale. He must have been a consultant in his past life. :). Five stars! Had a great experience with Pedego. The man who helped us was friendly and gave us great directions on how to see Acadia by electric bike. We enjoyed biking the 22 mile loop - and the bikes worked well. The tandem was a little bit hard to manage with a 10 year old on the back, even for my husband who is in good shape and very comfortable on bikes - so the tandem isn't for everyone but they enjoyed it after they got the hang of it. Only negative is that we'd told them over the phone that our teenage daughter was very tall, taller than her mom, but the bike they had waiting for her was really meant for someone in the 5 foot range. They switched it out for us eventually, which was good. I'd recommend. read more

Was on vacation with my wife and I. I had wanted to try these bikes out, an my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner, so that we would have had more time to ride before we had to leave. The bicycles themselves are electric assist or (if you like) fully electric with a twist grip throttle. The electric motor goes to 20mph, which is quite zippy. The batteries have a surprising range. When on a moderate assistive mode, and pedaling, it's easy to maintain 15-20mph without breaking a sweat. The employees were very friendly, super helpful and easy going. We were told that the bikes could get you up Cadillac Mountain in under an hour without much effort at all; I confess I was skeptical, and we didn't go all the way up Cadillac, but we went part way up it and then headed toward sand beach. I was wearing thick, heavy jeans (NOT biking shorts), and heavy-ish boots. I was perfectly comfortable, and I could effectively put in as much or as little effort as I chose. The overall effect is that, if you're fit, you can go a heckuva lot further than you would on a purely mechanical bike. If you're out of shape (and don't have time to exercise due to the fact that your wife and yourself have two young kids that don't allow for such luxuries), you can cruise around and not worry about how tired you'll be when you get back. After going 7 miles up and down some steep grades, and heavily utilizing the electric motor for over an hour, I was only down 2/5 of a charge. I would recommend at least renting for a half day (they do hourly, half day, and full day), and just go out and try to get lost, and then find your way back (there's always your smartphone if you get antsy). The residential areas of Bar Harbor are lovely, and there is, of course, Acadia. I couldn't recommend these enough! read more

This is by far the best way to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. I don't know how you could possibly bike the part without the extra boost. They were so fun and easy to use and the staff did a great job setting us up with them before we took them out. We would definitely rent these again!! The only reason they didn't get five stars is because we chose a tandem bike and anytime we used the breaks it squeaked at a really loud high pitch. read more

This was a great experience. I had no idea that you could still get exercise, yet climb hills without dying on the vine. People were asking us how we could get up west st extension without panting. We recently had a really great experience renting pedal assist bikes from here. Me, my husband and my 11 year old son had an absolute blast riding around Arcadia and did about 60 miles! It was a completely difference experience than driving to a look out point, getting out of the car, looking, getting back in the car. It brought the experience from one dimensional to three, four dimensions! And, the bonus is that my son had a blast and didn't ask or think about tech at all! The team was friendly and helpful, and gave us careful use instructions before seeing us off. We raced to the top of Acadia Park to the top of Cadillac Mountain passing many regular bikers on the way- they were all very jealous of our sweet bikes!
