I appreciated the fact that the Ghost Tour company is owned by Native Americans and the docent took the time to incorporate relevant history into the stories told. We took the original Ghost tour and it was mediocre; probably because I just didn't connect with the guide, Liz, for some reason. We only made a few stops on the 90 minute tour and the sites and presentations were okay but not at all captivating. It would have been better if there were more places visited and a better storyteller. I definitely would have appreciated learning more about the Wabanaki Nation and the Great Fire. Surely there's ghost stories hidden in that history somewhere. In short, for the price we paid it definitely wasn't worth the cost. read more

This was a fun thing to do in Bar Harbor and right before the start of the season! Our tour guide Daniel was fantastic and very knowledgeable about the history and the stories! My favorite part was the Mi'kmaq folk tales at the end for sure! Unfortunately I just think bar harbor doesn't really have enough lore to make this feel truly haunting. My only other comparison point was a ghost tour from New Orleans, so maybe that's also just unfair. Would recommend if looking for something active around the town to do at night! read more

Jen was an utterly captivating host and storyteller. She delved into a lot of great history, and made it feel so alive and relevant to today. She was also very thoughtful and sympathetic about the ghosts and the lives they had led, which was really nice. (And as someone who'd grown up in Bar Harbor, it was a lot of fun to hear these stories, most of which I'd never heard.) The Wabanaki tales were a fantastic addition: so creepy, but delightful, especially with Jen's delivery. While my tour was perfect for adults and older kids, this would also be a fantastic tour for a school group (Jen is clearly fantastic at adapting the tour for the group she has). read more

Phenomenal and worth it. Jennifer is an amazing storyteller and I had an spectacular time. My wife and I were paired with a very sweet family with a couple of well behaved kids (which is rare these days), and I felt like Jennifer did an excellent job at catering to both the two youngsters and all of the adults in the group. Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Daniel was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the history of the area and it's various "haunts". The very last story of the tour, the little boy possibly lost at sea, was the one that got me the most as Daniel imagined his mother walking around the waterfront asking "Have you seen my boy?" That, more than the supernatural part of it, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The Wabanaki tales he told after the tour were also fascinating and eerie. The walking part is not onerous; it's mostly flat with a few uneven pavement/brick areas. There is an opportunity to walk through the cemetery and it's very dark, so bring a small flashlight or be prepared to use your phone's light. Highly recommend this tour. If you go in October as we did, wear warm clothing (layers) and bring a rain jacket or an umbrella in case it starts raining during the tour, as it did during ours. read more

I've been on many ghost tours, and story-wise this was a great one. Daniel was a captivating story-teller, and the Wabanaki stories were so interesting to hear. Bring a coat in October, it gets chilly. There are also not a lot of places to sit, and the tour does take the full 90 minutes if not more. You're getting your money's worth. It's not too bad walking-wise since Bar Harbor itself is pretty small, but the first trek from the Abbe to the first haunted location feels pretty far. It's also hard to hear the stories when you get there over the zoom of cars flying past us. If I could change one thing, I'd tell the first group of stories at the Abbe house, point out where the house is on the way to the church/cemetery, and let people make the hike there on their own time. read more

I like to check out ghost tours anywhere and this was a great one! Daniel knew his lore and told it well. The playing of an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon, basically a supposed recording of a ghost speaking) and tribal council-approved addition of Wabanaki legends made this a standout in my ghost tour experience. My Mom and I were on a cruise and Bar Harbor was one of the places we visited. While other people were opting to take a bus tour of Acadia National Park, my Mom and I decided to take a walking Bar Harbor Ghost tour instead. In the end, it was a pretty entertaining experience! Our guide was Jennifer, was dressed as an undertaker's assistant. She was a great story teller. Our small group of six even included a four year old...in a stroller. I had mixed feelings about whether this was a good idea. The little girl's mother didn't seem too worried. The day time walking tour was from 10am to 12:30pm. So the walk wasn't as scary compared to if we were walking in the dark. We walked around for 1.5 hours along the streets of Bar Harbor as we heard various historical tales of scandal and mystery. We didn't walk into all the places Jennifer was mentioning. She would tell us to investigate on our own during the tour. Unfortunately, my Mom and I were only in Bar Harbor for a short while and would have to return to our ship before it was dark outside. I was a bit bummed. During the walk, Jennifer encouraged us to take pictures in the chance that we might capture something supernatural. She mentioned a boy had captured a picture of a face in a nearby rectory. Also a couple had recorded a voice along a pier - possibly the voice of a mother looking for her long lost son. She also mentioned that they try to debunk or research further if anything possibly supernatural is captured by anyone. We walked along residential streets and through super old cemeteries. We even walked into a movie theatre lobby but weren't able to enter into the main theatre until later that day. Jennifer had mentioned she would be giving another tour inside the theatre around 3pm. Unfortunately when my Mom and I returned at 3pm, Jennifer was not yet around and we weren't able to stay for very long to wait for her. Too bad! The stories were definitely interesting. Jennifer spoke very clearly and was an animated storyteller. The little girl didn't seem too scared but she did ask at once point whether ghosts were real...awkward hehe. Nobody answered her question. In the end I thought this was a great little experience. I only wish I had a chance to return to the places of interest and investigate further. I especially wished I took the tour in the dark. Jennifer said they she carries a blue lantern during the night tours. Fun! read more

It was a short walk through Bar Harbor with Jennifer (the tour guide) providing a huge amount of information through the stories she told about the haunted spots in the town. She was definitely knowledgeable and super enthusiastic with her accounts of the paranormal. We didn't realize the tour was mostly for kids. Us group of 5 thirty-year-olds were virtually not included in anything because we didn't bring kids and we weren't kids. People made fun of us as we walked down the street. The guide was very meh, she didn't really stay in character at all outside of the story telling (we even walked by her friend's house to say hi which was weird?). Most of the stories ended with "we had some recent testimonials which we are still doing research on so come back in a couple months"...well, I'm here now, so can you tell me anything? I really, truly, honestly wanted to love this ghost tour. I had been so excited for it leading up to my vacation to Acadia. I can't express how let down I was with how lackluster and flat-out boring this ghost tour is. If I could offer some advice on how to run this tour, the first thing I would suggest is not having the first stop at Ledgelawn last literally 30 minutes. I noticed others in the tour becoming antsy and yawning and slouching as we reached minute 20 of the dull history of the family who lived and owned Ledgelawn. Get to the ghost stories, we don't need the whole tedious history of a family we don't know nor care about. Unless we as a group are actually entering the supposedly haunted locations, the ghost stories should be snappy and fast-paced and full of scares--a ghost story shouldn't be drawn out and lead to yawns from a tour group. Moving on to our second location, the graveyard itself was dark and foggy and wonderfully spooky, all things you want in a ghost tour location. Unfortunately, at this point, the group was shown purported pictures of ghosts taken at the graveyard. My tip: don't show these photos to the group. Most giggled at these photos because they are so obviously not ghosts. The most egregious picture is just a blurry photo of a man in modern-day clothing with a crew cut but is supposedly the ghost of a man from the 19th century. To even show this photo to us was almost insulting to our intelligence. After this, we walked down to the Criterion Theater. We couldn't go inside but the privilege of being able to enter the theater is not a guarantee every tour so I took no issue with that. Once again, however, we were regaled with less-than-interesting minutiae of the history of the theater. Now I love history, but I didn't take this tour for history lectures; I'm here for creepy ghost tales. The history of the theater as a speakeasy would be much more fascinating if I wasn't on a ghost tour and expecting ghost stories. By the time we moved on to our last location, I was so checked-out that I couldn't have cared less about the ghost story and the EVP played for us. This was the slowest paced, dullest ghost tour I have ever had the displeasure of partaking in, and as I already stated, I really wanted to have a great and spooky time. My ultimate pieces of advice: get to the ghost stories sooner, don't bore us with the history of people we don't have anything invested in, don't show us obviously fake ghost photos, and don't have us standing around in one location for more than ten minutes (you could visit more locations on a faster paced tour). I give this tour two stars because Bar Harbor at night was fantastically spooky in the fog...so the weather, I'm giving points to the weather. read more

More like a history tour with stories more than a Ghost tour, but fun nonetheless. Our tour guide walked us around for a good 90 minutes and we were lucky enough to get into the theatre before it closed early to get ready for Judy Collins concert the next night.
