Olive Branch has been our "go to" middle eastern restaurant for years. However, there has been a decline with certain items on their menu in the past few years. Recently, we ordered one of their kebab dinners which are always great, but our veggie plate combo wasn't fresh, the falafels were as hard as rocks and the tabuleh was awful. Also, the Igra wasn't fresh and tasted like it had been in the refrigerator for a week. Shouldn't all of your dishes be served fresh without exceptions? read more

I was exited to try this place out for the first time since I saw all the reviews were good but to be completely honest people hype it up TOO MUCH. My boyfriend and I ordered the beef soltani but the beef luleh was sooo dry for both of us that we had hard time chewing and swallowing . We told the waiter and she was nice enough to take it back to the chef and told them to remake it again and we expected for the second round to be more better and enjoyable but it was dry once again . I'm sorry no luleh kabob is supposed to be that dry . Overall nothing really had taste and everything was so bland except for their lentil soup which is sad to say . We also got their chicken thigh to try but it had barely any taste and it tasted too sour ... we both were so disappointed don't think ima go back . Came here on a Sunday evening after the LaCanada concert in the park. They were one of the few places along this stretch of Foothill that appeared to be open after 8:30 pm. The staff were polite but not super warm. They almost looked surprised we wanted to sit down and eat. Maybe it's understandable, they had a ton of take out orders while we sat there. We were the only party eating in the restaurant yet it service was slow and were pretty inattentive given we were the only customers in the restaurant. We ordered and shared a few things: ashe reshte - the soup had all the right ingredients that make for a good ash but when scooped it up into my spoon is was super thick and goopy. It was a tad on the bland side. kashke bademjan - Mmmm, I'm not sure how to describe this. The problem might be that I LOVE kashke bademjan. This was extra thick and the fried onions were almost too crispy and hard. I added a little bit of our mast o moussir into it and that solved my problem with the texture. Shirazi salad - this was good and refreshing on a warm Sunday night. You can't really go wrong with chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and herbs. Beef Soltani - Aw man, the best part of the koobideh is the fat and juices oozing out of the kebab. It was a bit dry and overdone. The Barg was a good tender filet. This was not over cooked and tasted great. Given my experience here, the area with choices aplenty in the vicinity on a short drive, I don't think this would be on my "go to" list. read more

My daughters Taekwondo studio is just a couple of doors down from the Olive Branch, I've wanted to try it out for sometime because we enjoy Mediterranean food so after her practice, we stopped in to get a food order to take home. There was only one other customer in the restaurant while we were waiting but they were processing alot of to go orders. We ordered the Falafel, Dolmeh, the Chicken breast kebabs and Hummus. When I got home and opened our order, I was missing the Falafels. I called the restaurant and they offered to deliver them (they forgot to bring them out when the order came out) Unfortunately, I live 15 minutes away so that didn't work out. Maybe because the order sat for 15 minutes in route home but the chicken was dry (possibly continued to cook in the container?). We frequent another Mediterranean restaurant down the street which we really enjoy but I'll give the Olive Branch one more try not taking the food to go. read more

It was excellent and comes with complimentary pita. 5/5 Soup of the day: barley vegetable: this was actually the worst dish we had. It was relatively flavorless, and just tasted like barley in a thin bra with some small diced carrots mixed in. 2/5 Gheimeh sabzi: this was an excellent stew of preserved lemon and beef and greens. Apparently this was a very faithful re-creation of the traditional Persian dish. It was a medley of very interesting flavors, which are hard to find in some of the more "Americanized" Persian restaurants in southern LA or orange county area. 4/5 Doogh: This was a salty yogurt drink with a hint of mint served on ice. I really loved it - but it is definitely extremely interesting and perhaps not for less adventurous diners. 5/5 The price is right at this Armenian and Persian combination restaurant. They have a multitude of eggplant appetizers, including Armenian, Arabic and Persian. I ordered the Persian and it was not a disappointment - it was extremely rich and served with fried onions and a creamy yogurt dressing on top. Good portion sizes and reasonable prices. You start off with pita bread, butter, radish, onion, and mint. I love this stuff since it's so refreshing to start off with this lovely mix of flavors! I got the Ground Beef Kebab (Koobideh) and it was delicious. It came with two kebabs of ground beef, a huge mound of rice, a roasted tomato, and half a roasted chili pepper. It was entirely too much to eat and so I finished only half and took the rest home. The meat was juicy and not dry. The rice was a little tasteless (idk... maybe could do w more butter or something?), but it was still good overall. My husband got the Olive Branch Combo Kebab, which came with 1 full kebab of chicken breast, beef shish kebab, and lam kebab. Just to clarify, this was one skewer only, so it wasn't like 3 separate skewers of meat. He got this paleo style, so he got it without rice and a whole bunch of roasted vegetables. Finally, got the baba ghanouj and it had a smoky/charred flavor to it. I thought this was good, but my husband thought it could use more salt. i guess it's a matter of preference. We came here to celebrate my mother's birthday on a Saturday afternoon around 2, and were seated with no wait. My mom was more than happy with her food, and so were the rest of us! As soon as we were seated we were given fresh warm pita bread and crisp veggies. All the meats were so TENDER and JUICY! The rice was so fluffy. Veggies grilled to perfection. Service was so kind, and attentive. The ambiance is the perfect blend of casual and upscale. The entire restaurant was so clean, and was kept cool with AC. My mom recalled MANY years ago that a coworker of hers ordered food from here once, offered my mom a bite, and she has been hooked on Mediterranean food ever since. This food is was did it for her! Very solid Mediterranean food. This restaurant has been at this location in the Foothill area since as long a I can remember, but I finally tried it recently. My wife and I got the hummus, babaghanouj, Greek salad, and dolmehs with tzatziki. All were excellent. The was rich and full of flavor, with the the perfect texture, not too thick nor watery. The babaghanouj had a great smokiness and was mixed to the right texture. I am normally not the biggest fan of eggplant and often avoid babaghanouj, but I kept on eating it. These dolmehs might be the best that I have had. They had a great mild spice pallet and were not saturated in olive oil. This was wise as it made the flavor of the yogurt sauce right stand out when dipped. I also got an Armenian coffee that was very good. It was creamy and did not have any of the grit that you can sometimes get. The service is very friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. As for weaknesses, the ambiance is a little bit bare and could use some decoration to give the restaurant a little more character. Dessert was a bit disappointing. We got tiramisu, which was store bought and still partially frozen. Overall, this was an excellent and satisfying dining experience. read more
