The #12A Persian Koubideh Beef plate always have my heart. I first tried Massis Kabob when I used to work at the Santa Anita Mall and they opened a spot in the food court. And I also tried their spot at the Glendale mall. Come to find out years later that they opened a restaurant in Glendale. I had to check it out. Beef is soft and rice is fluffy. I love Mediterranean food and when in Glendale, ya gotta get some! There's so many options of Mediterranean food in Glendale and Massis is one of the best!!! Service wasn't as quick but it's okay, it takes some love and TLC to make all those great plates. I'm just as excited as the first time I tried it. It smells soooo good. Always get the spicy hot sauce that they have with a little tangy kick. There's lots of tables inside and outside. I promise I'll try their other stuff but 12A always takes the cake!! read more

So my favorite mall food court spot got itself a full-blown, sit-down restaurant! And we're all happy for that! Some comparisons between here and the mall version: - Food here is marginally better. Rice here is fluffier for some reason. The kabobs are also slightly tastier. - Self serve fountain drinks, including the lemonade and tea. This is a real bonus. - Baklava! The only downside here is that parking is pretty bad. The location sits on the corner of the intersection of Colorado and Glendale, which is always busy. During prime hours, it's hard to drive into, unless you're driving east on Colorado or south on Glendale. Also, the lot is very small. Apparently, they have a drive through here. In my opinion, this is a horrible idea. This isn't fast food; it takes a bit. So what you'll get is a back up of cars crowding an already super tight parking lot. I was a big thrown off. In Glendale, off of Colorado Blvd and Glendale Ave. there is sure a Massis Kobob shop sitting right on a corner. I'm pretty sure you are familiar with the chain inside many mall's food court. If not, give them a try. Food is delicious and can't complain. If you enjoy the mall's food, then give the brick and mortar a shot if you want that sit down dining vibe. We did show up on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed with people. I ordered Persian koubideh beef. It's two skewers of ground sirloin beef served with rice, Shirazi salad, pita bread, grilled tomatoes, and peppers. I got one pepper and one tomato so the description isn't too accurate. The Shirazi salad was more sour than I expected. The koubideh beef was pretty savory. Music played through the speakers. We were greeted as we entered the restaurant. I learned that it's the 50 year anniversary because of the cup showing the logo. It's pretty bright inside. It's pretty clean. It took 10 min to get our order. The employee had a giant tray and placed each plate carefully on the table. However, if you're looking for a fast-food version of Raffi's Place, then Massis is your place. It's a clean, quick service restaurant that rises a bit above a Chipotle imo. Portions are hearty + shareworthy. You can order in, or eat outside on the patio and take in some car-watching as some drivers race down Glendale Ave. like a drag strip. I particularly enjoyed the Gyro Plate. It's a recipe that apparently dates back to 1976, when they first opened. Made with thinly sliced Beef & Lamb Gyro Meat, it's served with rice, Shirazi salad (cucumber, tomatoes, herbs), tzatziki sauce, pita bread triangles, and a grilled pepper + tomato. The buttery Persian basmati rice--which I look forward to when dining at a Persian place--is rich and flavorful. Also, the gyro meat is well-seasoned and perfectly tender, without the gaminess that lamb can bring to a dish. I'm not usually big on lamb, but this recipe's got deliciousness nailed. Massis Kabob is a crisp, modern appearing kebab restaurant located in the heart of Glendale offering a variety of Mediterranean dishes in an express style setting. I came on a Sunday evening to find a place packed without a single empty table. I ordered the Koubideh combo ($14.95): the beef was tender and slightly spiced, the chicken was similarly tender, delicate, and flavorful. It was not the juiciest I've ever had, although this is very common in Koubideh. The rice, however, was spectacular. Moist, fluffy, delicate and ready to pick up all the juices and other flavors. Despite how busy the place was, it was fairly fast, about 10 minutes from order to food arrival. The interior is crisp and well designed with open fire and kitchen on full display. The interior is impeccably clean and modern. Value, I thought, was very reasonable. For $15 you get two skewers of meat, a huge bed of rice, side cucumber salad, and bread, an excellent value. I was a little off-put by the middling reviews for this restaurant, which seemed to contradict the modern appearance of the restaurant and hordes of customers inside and out. Perhaps the reviews are older and reflect earlier stages of this restaurant's 50 year history? Regardless, Massis is an excellent Kabobery worthy of its history. Massis Kabob Glendale Galleria is one of my favorite kabob spots. This place has been run for a very long time, and it's always busy and consistently doing well. I've probably been here over 100 times so far -- that's how long I've been coming here--and the food is always delicious. My go-to order is the #13 Beef Shish Kabob, which is my absolute favorite. My family also really loves their chicken kabob. The only downside was the wait time was about 20 minutes for just one meal which is too long in my opinion. I suggest doing a mobile order and picking it up. It's located on the corner of a busy intersection and parking isn't the best, and a lot of people think it's okay to park in spots where it's not a designated place to park. The customer service was pretty good, there was just one thing that I found to be a little uncalled for. So I have a nut allergy, each new restaurant I try I always ask if the food has nuts to be extra cautious. The worker basically didn't care, or that's how I perceived it. It took about 10 minutes which was surprisingly fast given the number of customers and orders in the early evening. The gyros was huge compared to other gyros I've gotten at other restaurants. This location for Massis Kabob is located in Glendale on Colorado Blvd. We favor this location due to it being an actual stand alone restaurant and not inside of a mall. But, no matter what location you visit, you will always find that it is very crowded because of the delicious food! We also like this location because we can place our order ahead and have it ready for when we arrive. The parking lot is a little small, but its never been an issue for us to park due to people always coming and going. The also offer curbside and will send you the instructions to your mobile device on when you arrive! The staff is always friendly and fast! They make sure your order is correct before giving it to you! On the side, they have a delicious green salsa available and we recommend trying it out, it will not disappoint. We ordered they #11 Chicken Kabob Boneless plate that comes with 2 sides, pita bread, grilled tomato, and grilled peppers. This is by far my favorite plate! The chicken is always super juicy and cooked to perfection! My only downside is that I wish there were better side options to choose from! The rice is delicious so I always opt in getting double rice! The grilled tomato is packed with flavor and literally melts in your mouth! My Girlfriend ordered the #12A/B Koubideh Combo which is one skewer of ground sirloin and one skewer of ground chicken served with 2 sides, pita bread, grilled tomato and grilled peppers. She really enjoys being able to have the best of both chicken and sirloin and both have incredible taste! She would also agree that better side options would bring this restaurant up to 5 stars! The Hummus is considered as a side but you do have to pay $1 extra, so we normally just order a regular hummus which is big enough to share and also take some home! The portions are pretty large, we usually ask for a separate to-go box and box up some of the meal to save for lunch the next day! Even reheated, it tastes fresh! Overall if you are looking for a pretty great Mediterranean restaurant, go check out one of Massis Kabob locations! Very disappointing experience. My order was placed and completed a day prior, yet I was still forced to wait an unreasonable amount of time to pick it up. The line to order was backed up like an In-N-Out drive-thru, even though my order was already supposed to be ready. We were made to wait in line on Glendale Blvd, blocking traffic, which made absolutely no sense. What made it worse is that we were not allowed to enter the parking area, even though it was completely empty, to wait safely for the already late order to be prepared. I understand that the holiday season is busy, but this level of disorganization and unprofessional handling is unacceptable. Lunchtime....about 12:30 on a gorgrous Sunday sunny afternoon. This time I brought a friend. He loved the gyro with pita chips and small hummus. The gyro was huge, and build with a good balance of greens tomato red onions and gyro meat. It's a perfect gyro, easy to hold and the tzikiki sauce was sooo yum and added to the complexity of flavors. In other words. Best gyro around. The perfect gyro. I know my friend thought so, said so and he smiled after every bite and thanked me profusely for introducing him to the kabobery. The hummus was fab, the pita chips were crunchy...he loved the pickled turnips too. It was yum to the max. We even contemplated returning here for dinner ...but our lunch was so filling and fulfilling, we vowed to return to try other signature dishes...like the kabobs!! My only negative thing was the free parking...the pickup lane takes up too much space so hard to back out of the spaces just opposite the cones. You'll see what I mean once you park there. 2.5 stars Koobideh didn't have much flavor. The portion size was wonderful, the 12A plate came with rice, grilled pepper and tomato, and a salad. I added a small hummus and asked for garlic sauce which is more like chimichurri, not the typical Mediterranean whipped garlic sauce I was expecting. The garlic sauce was good, hummus super smooth and both were flavorful. Unfortunately I needed to smother the koobideh and rice with them as neither had much flavor or pizzaz. The side salad tasted fresh and again, a wonderful portion size for $13.95. They offer a rewards program but honestly I think k id prefer to check out a local Mom n pop restaurant next time. Tried Massis again, this time the one on Colorado. First, I was shocked to see that the meats were not grilled fresh but grilled, "parked" and held warm and then grilled again. The meats we got were so well done I could barely eat it. The fries were worse: fried and yummy - and then put in a plastic container with a lid sitting getting soggy while the meats were warmed up. Please: why on Earth would you do this to an onsite-diner? Other than that, the service was friendly and the ambiance was OK. It was a shame really, as it would have been so easy to impress. Serve fresh grilled meats and for God's sake skip the plastic container and serve them on a plate like everything else. read more

Food is a hit or miss. When cooked properly the food is delicious with large portions. Staff are always kind and helpful. It's frustrating when meat is not fully cooked and raw or when fries are cold or undercooked. I got the boneless Idaho trout from Massis. I've known Massis as the kabob place at the mall food court. This is one of their first standalone store. The fast casual resturant is perfect. They have high ceilings, bright interior and great ventilation - and parking! This was my first visit. Glendale is known for the number of Kabob shops, but I think this has to be my new favorite.
